Precious words for happy living

Worship:  Worship is an extraordinary power which moves the wheels making life joyful, successful and peaceful.

Prayer; Prayer is a conversation between man and God. Prayer brings in humility, nobility and removes pride, anger and other harmful qualities. “ It is better in prayer to have heart without words then words without words than  words without heart.”

Meditation : Mediation is one pointed thinking . When you meditate thinking. When you  meditate on your chosen subject, the mind is focussed on one point. Mediation promotes concentration and makes your mind healthy and happy . Mediation helps avoid medication.

Laugh: “Laugh and live long”. The day is a waste when you did not laugh. Laughter assures good health, happiness and relaxes  body and mind.

Positive thinking; Life is what you make it by our thoughts. Always be optimistic and entertain positive thoughts which propel the mind to achieve your chosen goal.

Good books; select good books as you select your friends. A good book helps and a bad book harms . read the best books as early as possible. Otherwise , you may not have an opportunity to read them at all.

Good friends; Your company shapes your character. “Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.” The influence of good friends is great in shaping your life.

Family  : Make it a habit that all the members of your family meet once everyday and discuss freely on subjects of common interest.

Time ; Time is precious . The entire riches of the world cannot buy back a minute lost. Do not waste time.

Imagination ; Train your mind to imagine beautiful graceful and living scenes like a great honour to be conferred on you., your near and dear congratulating you on your grand success etc.

Hard work; Never postpone your work. Complete your work on time. Hard work gives solace and peace.

Fear ; Statistics prove that more people die out of fear than out of disease. Feat kills, faith saves.

Mind ; The most difficult thing in life is to control your mind. If you achieve control of your mind, you can achieve anything in life. When you remember what you what to remember and forget what you want to forget. you have absolute control of your mind. Never be idle. “An idle mind is a devil’s workshop”

Exercise; Health is wealth, Exercise keeps you trim, promotes sound health and keeps you free from dieses. It can be walking  yoga jogging or any other  aerobic exercise.

Smile ; When you wear a smile there is no need for any ornament. Everyone likes a person with a beaming smile. Smile makes friends. A smile is a passport for good relations.

Simple things; enjoy simple things like a beautiful rose, a chill’s smile, sunrise, borderless sea, flying bird, flowing river, a hug etc.

Keep learning; keep learning , it is an endless process from birth to death. You are in dark, the moment you stop learning.

Food ; Eat only when you are hungry and stop eating while you are not hungry. Eat more vegetables and seasonal fruits.

Untrained intelligence is as much of use as bottle without an opener.

Any story sounds true until someone tells the other side and sets the record straight.

The wise approve anything after security, whereas fools are led by others opinions.

Forgiveness is giving up my right to hate you for hurting me.

Quote from The true charm and power of Vedanta

When the mind is not concentrated, it is weak and we cannot accomplish any thing with it. Our mind in the first three state is like think fibres which are scattered and separated one form the other,  it cannot stand any pressure, but breaks. Easily. But when through the power of concentration we are able to wind our scattered thoughts into one cord, then we are able to resist all distractions, even as twisted fibres can resist the strength of an elephant.

But, if He exists?

I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Monday, 05 March 2012 With Faith you will overcome all Impediments and Obstructions. A husband and wife were travelling in a ship. Suddenly a storm struck, and huge waves began to dash against the ship everyone was frightened that it would be engulfed by the ocean. The wife looked at there husband, who happened to be a great devotee of God, and saw that he was not frightened at all. She said, “Are you not afraid?” Being a soldier, he drew his sword and placed it near her throat and asked, “Are you scared?” She replied, “Why should I be afraid of you? I know that you would not hurt me”. “Well then”, he continued, “;Why should not you feel the same way about God?” If you love God, then why should you be afraid if He has figuratively placed a sword at your throat? Why should you become upset and lose your patience and balance of mind? The message is that if yo have developed the feeling that God is the source of infinite love and that He is your very life. Your mother and father, then you have nothing to fear, whatever situation arises in your life. With faith, you will over come all problems and obstructions. (Courtesy International Yoga Guide.) Children Learn What They Live If a child lives with criticism he learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility he learns to fight. If a child lives with fear he learns to be apprehensive. If a child lives with pity he learns to feel sorry for himself. If a child lives with ridicule he learns to be shy. If a child lives with shame he learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with encouragement he learns to be confident. If a child lives with tolerance he learns to be patient. If a child lives with praise he learns to be appreciative. If a child lives with acceptance he learns to love. If a child lives with approval he learns to like himself. If a child lives with recognition he learns that it is good to have a goal. If a child lives with sharing he learns about generosity. If a child lives with honesty and fairness he leans what truth and justice are. If a child lives with security he learns to have faith in himself and in those about him. If a child lives with friendliness he learns that the world is a nice place to live in. If a child lives with serenity he learns about peace of mind. Sitting Still Makes No Person Great Except for hatching eggs nothing is done by sitting still. But that is a bird’s job. As for human beings they will not succeed in anything by just sitting down. Sitting still and wishing makes no person great. So rise up and put your shoulder to the wheel. Read the live of great man. Watch people who are successful around you. There is no easy way up. The victory to the top of the high mountain awaits people who reach it through hardship. A man cannot get food for his table or shelter for his family, or knowledge and skill in the exercise of his talents by merely wishing for them. The only food that life give him is the one which he has produced through his efforts. Actions of men are the best interpretation of their thoughts. Quote from The true charm and power of Vedanta Then if the subject of thought is miserable, we must be merciful toward it. When we see anybody suffer, we must try to remove his misery with a feeling of love and sympathy. This we must do with unselfishness and non-attachment toward the fruits of our actions. Whether the one whom we help is grateful or otherwise matters not. Whenever we have the opportunity of helping any one, we must bear in mind that it is for our good, for our own salvation. It is a privilege to serve God in the form of the miserable and thus build our characters and manifest Divinity. But, if He exists? Be Spiritually Immune If you could untie your wings and free your soul of jealousy and hatred, you and everyone around you would fly up like doves. All created beings on the Earth are blessed with an inbuilt immune system that protects one from so many infections. We strengthen it with good eating and clean living habits. Then what do we do to immune our spirit from all evil influences and stay free of negativity? Where do we get this negativity from? Of course , from the external world or the world we live in . How would one evade such negative tendencies within? One can achieve a calm and quiet mind by driving away jealousy, doubt and unnecessary desires. We can also immune ourselves by not reliving the past unpleasant happenings, by forgiving the persons that caused them. One must remember only the lesion such events forced one to learn; by doing so, one can never be contemptuous or arrogant. The adult folks must harness the innocence of the youngsters who absorb divine vibrations easily. We must teach our young when they are still in their prime all things righteous and also evolve for ourselves an exemplary living style. When we train our children by setting good examples, the process of cultivating spiritual immunity begins. This helps them in keeping their mind clean, refines their intuitive powers and protects them like a fortress from everything negative . It draws the best things to them, it forties and rein forces us well as the youngsters with emotional and mental stability and builds up self-confidence. It makes one feel secure and in control. Spiritual immunity thus fosters innate powers and thereby making the youth powerful and upright. If you want peace. Work for justice It is difficult , but essential to form a genuine idea of peace. It is especially difficult if one ignores his intuition that tells him that peace is something very human. If we look for the true source of peace we find that it is rooted in genuine respect for man. Peace that is not rooted in true respect for man is not true peace . and true respect for man we call justice. If you want peace, work for justice. Stress is behind many diseases Two psychologists at Yale University have concluded that many common affliction are , to a large extent, caused by stress. They believe that chronic stress is partially responsible for the development of asthma, diabetes, ulcers, ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel dieses, atherosclerosis, heart attack, cancers, and the common cold . the researchers point out that the disease often breaks out after a period of heavy stress. Thus it is common for colds and others infection to breaks out on a weekend or a vacation taken after a prolonged period of high work intensity. The psychologists believe that physicians should assist their patients in acquiring the necessary skills such as exercising and relaxing. Quote from The true charm and power of Vedanta The value of concentration is unquestionable . It helps every one in every stage of life. But the greatest man is he who can concentrate his mind of the Supreme Reality, for “we become exactly what we think” Intense thought forms our external and internal nature. This we can often see in the case of devoted husband and wife; they become like each other in their manners, nay, even in their appearance. This fact is very obviously shown in the life of Saint Francis of Assisi, who by constantly concentrating his mind on Jesus the Christ grew to be like Christ. It is even said his eternal figure became transformed and showed the marks of the stigmata. Such is the power of concentration that it can change the whole nature of a man. By concentrating our mind on a pure, holy being we become holy being we become holy. Similarly, when we turn our thoughts to material objects, we become materialistic. But, if He exists? Heaven or Hell

Monday 20/ February /2012
Heaven or Hell An old man who had spent a life time of sins by cheating and thriving was on his death bed. The prospect of death and his punishment that would be meted out after life time frighten even the hardest of hearts. This old man too became frightened and started praying to God for forgiving his sins and promising to be have better in his next life. The cries of this old man drew the attention of an angel who was passing by and attracted her towards him. Coming near the dying man, the angel asked him “Why do you cry like this?” The saying man told the angel faithfully about his sinful apst and his fears about the future. The angel asked; “Can you think of some good acts you might have performed which may help you?” Cried the dying man; “Not one that I can think of , for, whatever I did, was found. How I wish I had done a few noble acts at least!” Angel, “Now, think of your childhood, when possibly you must have done some good thing!” The old man thought hard and said; “ I am ashamed to say that it was a good act. When I was a child. I went without food for some days. At last I found a piece of bread which I wanted to keep for two days. At that time a poor man who was no better than my self looked at my bread and pleaded with me to share it with him. I agreed and parted with half of it to that friend. Ca I call this a good deed?’ Angel ; “Do not fear, it is an excellent act. Hold on to it and you will cross the other life with freedom from punishment.” This assurance soothed the old man and he died peacefully. The soul of the old man was carried to heaven, on the life provided by the bread piece. Now, even as the old man’s soul started ascending to heaven on the bread piece. Other souls of equal character which were departing from the world at about the same time started clanging to the bread piece which was carrying the old man to heaven! When a number of them jumped on it, the old man got furthered lest the bread piece should fall down and endanger his chances. Annoyed at that, he shouted to the other souls which had started crowding on his bread piece. “Be gone all of you, the bread piece is mine! Hardly had he uttered these words when the bread piece crumbled and the old man along with other who had crowded on to his , fell down crashing into the suffering of hell. One small deed of real charity had been able to overcome a life time of evil deeds, but an act of selfishness spoiled even that slender foothold. People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges. How to get Sense of Fulfilment From work. In one from or the other, we have to perform action/work during our lifetime. In this industrialised society, our man motive for work is to earn money. This motive becomes the driving force for all that we do and in course of time our inner life becomes unrefined, with this total dependency on returns for our work. There are some people who love work for tis own sake. They get pleasure just doing the work. They get a sense of fulfilment from work. To them, returns from work become secondary. A pat on the back, a work of acknowledgement or appreciation may be all they looking for. A mother doing incessant work for her family, for her children, has this kind of attitude to work. A mother/father with an inborn sense of duty performs their actions without an eye on returns. A student who is studying is not paid for his work. There may be at the back of his mind, plans for future prospects, for a future career. But for the time being , he has to be absorbed and devoted to his studies. He has to study. with a sense of duty . with this attitude, he can over come his likes and dislikes and pore deeply into his studies with total devotion. But what then will be the motive to transform all our actions into kamayoga, the yoga of selfless action, or work done with a sense of duty. Work done with this attitude comes out better . We feel we have mo energy for work. Work gives satisfaction, we learn a lot from it. Gradually, this attitude helps us to see the large process of life. Life becomes richer. We see much more behind ordinary, normal things of life, which we had taken from granted. We develop self esteem. Our self worth does not come from what return we get from the work, but from the feeling that we have done the work to the best of our ability. This enrichment of our inner life through work/action is called Karmayaoga. Courtesy ‘PARTHA’ Quote from true charm and power of Vedanta I am not misery, nor ever had I misery; I am not enemy, or had I enemies; I am Existence, Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Bliss Absolute; I am he , I am He. Critical Thinking

Monday 1 November 2010
Importance of Critical Thinking
Now a days, most of have developed herd mentality. This has grown into so strong a habit that is deeply ingrained in our lives. Even the things we buy, we routinely buy what our friends, relatives recommend; even the advertisements influence us. For whatever we do, we seek approval of others or simply do what others do. Our values , our assumptions, infect, everything we do and hold are done without ever questioning.
What is wanting is out of-the-box thinking, original thought and critical analysis. Just imagine for a moment, how much more efficient we could become if we apply critical thinking. When we do so right through our routine takes to making important decisions, we can come to more logical conclusions and mange ourselves better.
Critical thinking requires taking charge of our thought process. It involves rational analysis, dispassionate evaluation and prudence t judge. Emotion hampers reason. So we must rely on reason, for it fosters open-mindedness, discipline and better judgment. When we attain this state of mind, we gain enriched communication and self-expression. Among children. It fosters remarkable learning and retention abilities. As it also involves new thought process, it gives way to creativity too. In real life situations we waver between creative thinking and critical analysis when we explore solutions to our problems. In such situations it helps us split complex problems enabling us to solve them step by step. So critical thinking skills are essential for all effective panning, problem solving and decision making process.
Sweeten Life With Simple Acts Of Courtesy
Heaven and hell are nowhere but they are in your own mind. It is the mind that creates or destroys . the greatest achievement of a person will be to keep his mind under control;. It is the state of mind that makes rich people unhappy and poor people happy. If a person becomes a slaves of his mind, he lacks direction, sometimes leading to a crisis.
In day to day life you have several opportunities to make life pleasant or unpleasant . with a clam mind, cheerful disposition and a loving heart, you can make your surroundings joyful and make the people you move with relax and be at peace. The effect of every actions shaped you.
You can sweeten your life and the lives of people around you with simple acts of courtesy. As the head of an institution you can make it a heaven by being pleasant, cheerful and loving . You meet your colleagues, assistants, customers and friends. How many times you ‘smiled’ at them? How many times you said morning?’
How many times you said “Thank you’ for small acts of efficiently? How many times you said ‘sorry’ for the mistake you have committed? How many times you said ‘pardon me when you spoke in an angry mood and later realized your mistake?
You can sweeten your life, when you are less selfish and more selfless, when you are in the habit of going instead of receiving, when you play a game with a handicapped person, when you write a letter for a sick person in hospital.
Everyday from dawn to dusk there will be a host of opportunities for you to express concern for others problems, to extend a helping hand and to speak a word of consolation.
As you go for an early morning walk even a smile at a stranger makes ripples of happiness.
When you make your assistant feel that the is working with you rather than working for you it makes significant difference promoting cordiality and trust.
You can make you life sweet when you control your anger even when you are justified to express it, whey o settle differences without a quarrel or violence.
Life becomes sweet when you have patience because an egg becomes a chick when it is hatched but not when it is smashed . life becomes sweet when you handle frustration peacefully and quietly.
Life becomes sweet when you have perseverance in facing a situation boldly in spite of discouraging setbacks, when you respond to the needs of others, when you face unpleasantness and disappointment without becoming bitter, when you remain calm in the midst of confusion, when you aspire for peace not only for you but for those who live with you and around you, when you develop the skill to disagreeable, when your heart is filled with delightful thoughts , when your day-to-day life expresses humility , maturity, sincerity and simplicity.
You can make you life sweet when you use words like;
“What a wonderful work you have done”, “How nice you are”, “Your birthday is a joy for me” instead of dining faults for simple and genuine mistakes.
A smile , an encouraging word, a pat on the back, a warm shake hand, a simple and sincere gift or warmth irrespective of the cost, a sincere expression of joy a word of appreciation brings sweetness into your life.
Your life becomes sweet when you are dependable, honest, keep us promises, help others without expecting anything in return.
Can you not afford to extend these simple courtesies and render you life and lives of others sweet now and for ever?
Quote from the essence of Gita
Unless we practice them in our daily lives, it is immaterial whether we have heard scriptural teachings or not. The truth has to be realized Knowledge and devotion are to be practiced in life. To make progress, al three knowledge, devotion and mediation-are essential. A bird cannot fly unless it has two wings and a tail. In the same way, without these three –knowledge, devotion and mediations our progress is settled. If the mind of a devotee is without knowledge and the capacity to think deeply it rises high during the time of devotional singing only to fall into sensual temptations when the singing ends it becomes impossible then to control the mind which lacks the power to think rationally. At such times, knowledge and mediation are helpful to keep one’s balance. The mind must be controlled. The power to do so is within us.

The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha

How to control Anger?
Sages and savants have described anger as the most destructive human emotion. It not only disturbs our peace of mind but also brings untold suffering in the shape of bad health and poor relationships. The opposite to anger is patience and acceptance. A healthy and joyous life is possible only if we put anger under control
For most of us, never getting angry is impossible but we can certainly modify our behavior to make a situation better identifying the basic cause of anger and coming to understand whether it needs a short term or long-term management, strategies to keep anger under control are helpful only when we come to find out its reasons.
Experts believe that the real problem is not anger but the mismanagement of it. Before we get carried away by it or say or do something, we should consider the possible negative effects of anger. It is important to let people close to you know hat something is bothering you. Putting focus on finding a solution for the problem is a positive approach to come out of a puzzling situation.
Many times anger and other frustrations arise due to certain inescapable problems . in our day-to-day life we see that anger, even if it I justified can quickly turn irrational . Angry people tend to jump to and act on conclusions which is heated moments can be self-destructive . Slowing down, thinking carefully and listening to what the other person is saying gives us time to gain composer and react in a measured manner.
Sometime our immediate surrounding and the person around give us cause for irrational and fury. Putting yourself in other person’s shoes also helps you gain a different understanding. When anger is building up, just pause and try to think in a positive manner . speak carefully to dissolve the heat of the moment. A touch of humour can also help diffuse difficult situations.
While arguing, it is better to attach the problem and not the person and also be aware of when to quit. If you feel your anger might get out of control, take slow and deep breathing and try to change the place or the environment.
It is said that anger exists in the mind and is the direct result of our thoughts. Always blaming our difficulties on others is a sure sign of many problems and faults within our mind. If we are truly balanced inside and have our mind under control, even difficult people and circumstances would not be able to disturb us.
Our physical and mental health is closely related to each other. Taking care of the body by exercising regularly , eating right food, getting enough sleep meaning time properly and adhering to mental discipline along with a flexible and friendly attitude towards everybody gives us enough advantages to face difficult strains. Yoga and mediation are also increasingly seen as quite helpful for angry and stressed persons.

A gossip is one who talk to you about others. A bore is one who talks to you about himself. A brilliant conversationalist is one who talks to you about yourself.

Conquer fear and you can command your destiny
Imagination plays a very great part in producing fear. Man lives in constant fear and restlessness. He is afraid of accidents, disease, dishonor and separation from dear ones and death.
Try to find the cause of fear. Weak will is the main cause . timid ness and fear go together.
Fear chills the heart and turns the hairs grey . fear breeds fear.
Fear turns a king into a beggar. Fearlessness turns a beggar into a king.
Never entertain even a single thought of fear. Fear kills a man many times before his actual death.
Fearlessness is the greatest virtue. Fear is the greatest vice.
Do not cause fear in any heart.
Do not become a source of fear for anyone. Be simple . Be loving cheerful and compassionate.
Contract fear by entertaining thoughts of courage, boldness, cheerfulness and faith in Divine Grace.

Set Standards and Demand Excellence
1. You must set priorities. I always remember my father said” Your health comes first; without that you have nothing.
2. You need an ability to grab hold of tough problems and not delegate them. It is not fair to allow the person below you take the brunt of making the hand decisions.
3. Set and demand standards of excellence. Anybody who accepts mediocrity in school, on the job, in life is a person who compromises.
4. You need a sense of urgency. It is absolutely better to do something, recognizing that it may not be the right thing but better than do nothing at all.
5. Pay attention to details . Getting the facts is the key to good decision making
6. You need commitment. You can always pick out the person who has a commitment.
7. Do not waste your time worrying about things you cannot do anything about.
8. You need the ability to fail. I am amazed at the number of organizations that were set up and the environment where thy do not permit their people to be wrong.
9. Be tough but fair with people, being tough means setting standards and demanding performance. (Pemba)

Quote from true religion always helps
Religion teaches us even to look on suffering as an expression of God’s compassion, and on disease as a form of austerity. He sends us these for our spiritual growth. When the painful death of a dearest one makes us almost insane, nothing but the wisdom and sympathy of true religion give us solace.

There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. Don’t go through life too fast

Monday 19–July- 2010
Don’t go through life too fast
A young and successful officer was traveling through a neighborhood street, going too fast in his brand new Jaguar car.
As his car was passing, a brick smashed into its side door! He put on the breaks and moved backward to the spot where the brick had been thrown. He then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest boy and pushed him up against the parked car. He then shouted, “What was that all about and who are you? That is a new car and it will cost a lot of money to repair the damage . Why did you do it?”
The young boy was making an apology, “Please , Sir, I am sorry but I did not know what else to do”, he pleaded, “ I threw the brick because none else would stop”, with tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the boy pointed to a spot. “It is my brother”, he said. ‘He rolled off the edge and fell out of his wheelchair. I could not lift him up”. Now weeping the boy asked the surprised officer. “Would you please help me to get him back into his wheelchair? He is hurt and he is too heavy for me”.
Moved beyond words, the officer hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair. He then took out handkerchief and cleaned the cuts with care. A quick look told him everything was going to be all right.
“Thank you, May God bless you”, the grateful boy told the officer who was a stranger to him.
Too much upset , the officer simply, watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the path along the side of the street toward their home.
It was a long, slow walk back to the car. The damage was easily seen, but the officer never took the trouble to repair the slight dent made in the side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of his message.
“Don’t go through life so fast that someone his to throw a brick at you to get you attention!”
God speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don’t have time to listen . he ahs to throw a brick at us. –(Courtesy :”Hypnotique)
Go not to the temple
Go not to the temple to put flowers upon the feet of God, first fill your own house with the fragrance of Love. God not to the temple to light candles before the altar of God, first remove the darkness of sin from your heart. Go not to the temple to bow down your head in prayer, first learn to bow in humility before your fellowmen. Go not to the temple to pray on bended knees, first band down to lift someone who is downtrodden. Go not to the temple to ask for forgiveness for your sins, first forgive from your heart those who have sinned against you. Rabindranath Tagore
Exercise patience with others.
In times of stress our impatience surfaces. We may say words we don’t really intend to say. Or we may communicate through emotion rather than words . we then suffer from hurt feelings and strained relationships. Patience is the real expression of faith , hope and love. Life provides abundant changes to practice patience.
If men will see their own faults as they see the faults of others, verily evil would come to an end in this world.
Right Thinking
Systematically cultivate the habit of right thinking. Substitute good thought for evil thought and the later will be eliminated. Do not compromise with any kind of wrong thought. The only way to get rid of it effectively is through the power of right thinking. If it is a desirable thing to think good thoughts for sometime, it is desirable to think good thoughts all the time. It is just as easy to think right thoughts as to think wrong thoughts. True independence and self-confidence are based upon right thinking.
If you are headed in the right direction, each step , no matter how small, is getting you close to your goal.
Tailor or Lawyer
The employer called his secretary: ”Here ,Meena, look at this letter. I cannot make out whether it is from my tailor or my lawyer! They are both name d Sudhir”.
The note read: “I have begun your suit. Ready to be tried on Thursday Sudhir.
Quote from True Religion always Help
Now to meet the requirements of life in the world, we need to earn money. And in this too, religion is our friend. Even today, honesty is the best policy in the world. He who earns his bred through honest labour may not amass huge wealth, but he will not be dogged by anxiety and fear or exposure. He will have an inner strength which cannot be purchased with money. Those who earn cheap, money, unrighteous money ,not only constantly face their risk of exposure, but before they realize it, the money itself may have vanished and all further avenues of earning closed to them.
A man with a sense of honor and dignity knows that it is the man who makes the money, not money the man. And this sense of dignity is more abiding if it springs from religion.
One without such a background thinks that it is money that makes the man and hence will do anything for money. Al such will eventually suffer.
A healthy body can produce a healthy spirit. – Old Roman saying.

Waiter : Well, , sir , you could give me a raise in salary!

Selfishness is alien to the bee!
Man has a lot to learn form the bee . it lives for the collective good of the hive. Selfishness is alien to it. Between the bee and the housefly there is a world of difference. The latter now sits on pure edibles and next on filth. Whereas the bee alternates between its hive and fresh flowers. Nowhere else does it land. It is ever industrious . at any moment it offers its life in defense of the hive.
-Swami Chidhavananda.
Only one finger
“Twist someone round one’s finger” is an expression meaning that you handle or manage with skill a person and get him to do what you want him to do . it owes its origin to horse riding . A good rider can use only one finger to control the reins of the horse and get the animal to move left or right!

Is man the architect of his own future?

Monday 28–June- 2010
Is man the architect of his own future?
“Every man is the architect of his own future”. Each and every person must have come across this statement sometime or other but how many have had the courage and conviction to stand up and firmly state his or her views on this? Everything must have a reason –an answer to the question” why”? But till today, no valid reason has been found for this statement.
The state of education in our country today is one of the proofs for the sweeping generality of this statement. We the children of India, have the right to progress and prosper. How can the country prosper, if the educational system is what it is today? Some of us are being denied education-the basis for all round development-just because we happen to have been born into a casts which had exploited others. Now, can anyone tell me of what use it is, to make us suffer for some grave errors and sins committed by the previous generations? We are being denied our rights as human beings to prosper in life, just because we are in a certain caste. Even if we get high marks in qualifying examinations, others who have lower marks. Get admission into colleges and universities. This is a shame to our country when the basis of it is secularism!
What happen to all our hard work; have all the pains and efforts we have taken at each step of our lives, till now, gone in vain? No human beings rightful progress should be hindered. How can we even think about our future if the present is so bleak and dull? There seems to be no ray of hope.
How can every man be an architect of his own future when the man is placed in such circumstances ? Every man needs some freedom; some place in this world to grow in and shape his future . can we ever shape our future when there are such powerful hands to wield and mould us according to their won whims and fancies? As long as such circumstances prevail , no man can even get the material to plan his future, leave alone building it.
How can we hope to step into the future and try to shape our own lives, when every road we take seems to always lead to dead-end?
Facts about Gita
The Bhagwad Gita (song of the Lord) the holy book of the Hindus. Was composed sometime during 200 B.C.-200 A.D. The Gita which forms part of Bhisma Parwa of the Mahabharata from Chapter 25-42 contains nearly 700 verses, having 18 chapters.
The Gita is written in the form of a dialoged between Arjuna (one of the Pandava borthers) and Lord Krishna. It was composed by Veda Vyasa who has synthesized the essence of all the teachings of the Uppanishads in the Bhagwead Gita. The original written in Sanskrit has been translated in more than 30 languages-national and international; The Gita has been set in the Mahabharata at the time of the Kurukshetra War between the Kauravas and Pandavas.
The Gita is also a classic text of Yoga especially Chapter Six which deals with Bhakti-yoga (Devotion), Jnana-yoga(Knowledge)and Dhyana-yoga (Meditation) and synthesis all the three.(Courtesy Yoga)
How to love God?
To love God is the most practical way is to love our fellow beings. If we feel for others in the same way as we feel for our own dear ones, we love God.
If instead of seeing faults in others, we look within ourselves, we are loving God
If, instead of robbing others to help ourselves, we rob ourselves to help others, we are loving God.
If we suffer in the sufferings of others and feel happy, in the happiness of others we are loving God.
If , instead or worrying over our own misfortunes, we think of our selves as more fortunate than many many others, we are loving God.
If we endure our lot with patience and contentment, accepting it as His will, we are loving God.
If we understand and feel that the greatest act of devotion and worship to God is not to hurt or harm any of His beings, we are loving God.
To love God as He ought to be loved, we must live for God and die for God, knowing that goal of all life is to love God and find Him as our own self.
Opportunity never comes. It’s there if you know how to seize it

Importance of Continuous Learning.

Monday 21–June- 2010
Importance of Continuous Learning.
Today the work environment is changing rapidly. To meet the new challenges, continuous learning seems to be the only way to set new parameters of excellence.
Many organizations and Educational Institutes have been holding in-house orientation programme sot update the knowledge levels of their employees. Now it is not only the work-force which is learning but also the organization concerned. Certainly this learning process, keeps the Lerner, either an institution or an individual, or both, abreast of the times.
How far this continues learning process helps? If it is an educational institution, the seminars, and workshops bring personnel together which help them exchange, and observe the teaching-learning techniques to keep themselves abreast of the latest in the field. If it is a business organization it leads to improved quality standard and product improvement . This process certainly enhance their capability to continuously adapt to changing parameters in the field .
The other ways of acquiring such knowledge are making optimum use of information infrastructure such as group discussion, computer conferencing, internet, web chats, and various other ways of knowledge dissemination.
Thus constant learning process and upgrading nourishes new patterns of thinking and help expanding the creative abilities. Hence the importance of learning as an on-going process to enhance the knowledge and skill of an individual for the promotion of individual and organizational performance.
My Son’s Letter
My son’s letters always send me to the dictionary. It is difficult to understand the language the body uses”, said one father.
“You are lucky”, said another, “My son’s letter always send me to the bank”.
True Mediation
Mediation is not seeking an end; It is not groping purposefully after a goal. Out of mediation comes immense silence; not cultivate silence, not eh silence between two thoughts; but a silence that is unimaginable. The brain becomes extraordinarily quiet when in the process of enquiry; when there is silence, there is great perception. It is only when the mind is absolutely silent that one finds that which is beyond all words, which is timeless. Then out of that comes the vastness of true mediation.
Quote from true religion always helps, Real issue of life and religion.
In considering these real issues, we should always remember the basic fact that life is not a mere groping in the dark. It has a definite end, which is the attainment of perfection or illumination or complete self-fulfillment. Growth and advancement, which are two basic urges in man, and protection from injury and maintenance, which are two basic requirements, have to be correlated to that end. And providing this correlation is the function of religion.
Our life on earth begin with our birth. Unfortunately, in these days the birth of a human being seems to have lost its sanctity and wonder . However , it has to be remembered that the birth of a baby is not only the biological consequence of the union of man and women. A metaphysical issue is also involved. The birth of a baby means the assumption of a baby means the assumption of body by a soul. A baby is a soul, a divine spark, or pilgrimage to high destiny.
He who over comes others is strong; he who overcomes himself is mighty.

Be Well Poised

Monday 10–May- 2010
Be Well Poised
People in key jobs are usually surrounded by a hype. This work based hype makes us a bit haughty. Too. It is , indeed, music to our ears when people remark many people work under him/her, or …”is like a mini boss to us”; Oh!.. is part of major official decisions’ and often, be essence of these flattering remarks goes to our heads.
If you feel that this is confined to ‘big wings’, you are mistaken. Even middle-order job positions also carry such an aura around them. The workforce concerned or candidates holding such positions truly enjoy their boosted image. But the sailing is quite smooth as long as they don’t rub the flatters on the wrong side. As long as this does not happen, you can enjoy the puff and glamour of it. The real trouble comes calling when you really start believing that “ you are the best”. When you start insisting your status, the yes-men/women never responded you honestly and have even kept bad news away form your ears.
On the other hand, your insistence paints you cold, haughty, and pompous, eroding into total destruction of your image. The trust and support of your sycophant colleagues and subordinates vanishes. The end result is the accelerated stress and anxiety as you become paranoid about losing your importance. So you must realize that such hype or false image you have let the people surrounding you, build about you, doesn’t help you in any way. You ought to strike a balance in your relationship with your colleagues, subordinates and not indulge in ‘self-love or egotism.
In order to attain this balanced state of mind, you should kick off delusions about yourself. Always strive to keep yourself firmly panted in reality, in true perspective-you are not irreplaceable at all. This is possible only when your are detached, dispassionate and work with humility by not taking your position too seriously. Don’t bother how other treat you or think of you . Be focused solely on your work. This will give you a simple and calm outlook which will help you to free yourself from the over whelming feeling of self importance.
So stay humble and focused and be ahead on your path to success.
Poised and focused are the mantra to succeed.
Don’t Be Afraid To Trust Faith
Every individual forms his own estimate of himself and that basic estimate goes far towards determining what he becomes . You can do no more than you trust you can. You can be more than you think you are . Trust simulates power within yourself. Have faith in faith. Don’t be afraid to trust faith.
Learn to Balance Anxiety
As long as we walk on a smooth and straight path, we enjoy the walk, But when a U turn comes, we pause, anxiously wait to hear the sound of the oncoming vehicles in the opposite direction. Suddenly our joy comes to an end.
Sudden changes make us anxious. To avoid anxiety, we shun and resist changes. We do not try to adapt ourselves so changes.
No doubt certain things in our lives are beyond our control. But certainly, there are things which are under our control; anxiety is one of them. Infect, it has its positive effects on us as it keeps us comes. So we must learn to balance our anxiety and use it to explore new avenues of growth. Lest it leads to adverse effect on our health and creates confusion in our career.
Remember great leaders have tamed anxiety and converted it into positive driving force. All great achievers share certain common personality traits such as; the ability to embrace change; skill to learn from every situation and openness of mind to new idea; have ambitious plans to future, ability to act appropriately at the right time by neither delaying in making decisions nor making hasty decisions, willingness to adapt new ideas and stretch to new goals and above all manage the anxiety and help others do the same. Some amount of anxiety is necessary to push you out of your comfort zone and make you realize your potentialities . learn to balance anxiety.
Quote from True Religion always help
The Bhagavad-Gita teaches
Him I hold to be the supreme yogi who looks on the pleasure and pain of all beings as he looks on them in himself.
The Dharmapada Teaches;
All men tremble at punishment all men fear death. Liking others to oneself , one should neither slay nor cause slay.:
Like wise we read in the New Testament;
This is one voice of religion everywhere on the basis of which alone protection from injury is possible. And this principle holds good in family, society and national and international relationships.
Many of our conflicts can be traced to the violation of this golden principle of human conduct, which is one of the fundamental principles of true religion.

Man-The Maker of His Destiny

Monday 3–May- 2010
Man-The Maker of His Destiny
Swami Vivekananda
We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act.
This human body is the greatest body in the universe, and a human being the greatest being. Man in higher than all animals, none is greater than man.
Man is man, so long as he is struggling to rise above nature and this nature is both internal and external.
If we read the history of nations between the lines, we shall always find that the rise of a nation comes with the increase in the number of such men, and the fall of begins in the absence of such men. That is to say, the mainsprings of the strength of every race lies in its spirituality, and the death of that race begins the day that spiritually declines and materialism gains ground.
This world is the great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong.
Men in general lay all the blame of life on their fellow men or failing that, on God and say it is fate. Where is fate? We reap what we sow. We are the makers of our own fate. None else has the blame , none has the praise.
Every thought that we think, every deed that we do, after a certain time becomes fine, goes into seed form , so to speak, and lives in the fine body in a potential form, and after a time, it emerges again and bears its results. These results condition the life of man. Thus he moulds his own life. Man is not bound by any other laws excepting those which he makes for himself.
My ideal, indeed, can be put into a few words, and this is; to preach unto mankind their divinity, and to make it manifest in every moment of life.
I am sure God will pardon a man who will use his reason and cannot trust, rather than a man who trust blindly, instead of using the faculties He has given him.
We must reason and when reason proves to us the truth of the prophets and great men abut whom the ancient books speak in every country, we shall trust in them. We shall trust in them when we see such saints in ourselves . we shall then find that they were not peculiar men, but only illustration of certain principles.
Why should you not try to hit the mark? We become wiser thought failures.
It is better to do something; never mind even if it proves to be wrong; it is better than doing nothing. The cow never tells a lie, but she remains a cow, all the time. Do something!
The highest things are under you feet, because you are Divine Stars;
It is the coward and the fool who says, ‘This is fate’ so says the Sanskrit proverb, but it is the strong man who stands up and says, “ I will make my fate’.
Life is very interesting. If you can learn from the mistakes you make.
My Boss…..by James
When I take a long time I am slow;
When my boss takes a long time he is thorough.
When I don’t do it-I am lazy;
When my boss doesn’t do it he is too busy.
When I do something without being told
I am trying to be smart;
When my boss does the same that is initiative.
When I please my boss I am apple –polishing
When my boss pleases his boss he is co-operating.
When I do good my boss never remembers
When I do wrong he never forgets.

Stress Busters

Monday 12–April- 2010
Stress Busters
By Swami Shivapremananda
1. One of the best means for stress relief is the practice of mediation before breakfast or before supper for 24 to 29 minutes.
2. Sit in a comfortable posture, either cross-legged on a soft cushion, or on a straight-back chair, with both the feet together on the floor. Close the eyes and keep the neck and back relatively straight without being rigid.
The following are some of the requirements for stress relief.
3. Communicate more with friends than you normally do. Try to make friends. Be first to smile when meeting someone. Show your interests in those you meet, in their welfare, in what they do , and try to be helpful and supportive.
4. Exercise regularly for an hour at least, such as practicing a balanced format of asana and pranayama, before breakfast or before supper. If not, walk at least three miles rapidly.
5. Be regular in your habits, such as in eating and sleeping. Eat moderately but plenty of vegetables and fruits. Vegetables should be cooked for easy digestion. Sleep at least seven hours. Avoid sleeping during day. It is better not to stay up late.
6. Be interested in your work. If there is no satisfaction in your regular job, find something useful to do for a couple of hours, such as joining a charitable institution.
7. Have some hobby , such as reading history, biography, or learning a language or to play an instrument.
Take a break form daily routine , periodically , and go on a holiday, including some new places to see.
From time to time, learn to relax, sitting in an easy chair, or lying down on the floor after moving the body part by part slightly, relax physically for a few minutes. Next , feel the coolness and the warmth of the breath a couple of minutes. Finally, feet the movement of the abdomen, breathing spontaneously. Get up after moving the body part by part, and stretching, rolling over on both sides
As general rule, practice detachment as opposed to being confrontational and , wherever possible , by being co-operative.
What is Culture?
By Swami Chinmayananada
Culture is the measuring scale of civilization. The difference between an uncivilized nation and a civilized nation lies in their culture. When a set of people live for along period of time, in a particular geographical area, respecting certain values and virtues of life there comes a fragrance which is called their culture. The quality of such culture depends upon the type of values followed.
The values respected by the people are, in the beginning, ordered by external conditions of life thus, in the first age of civilization, geographical and climatic conditions and environment influenced the people and determined their values of life. Once such values are determined and a culture is set, the external environment will have little influence over the culture thus established.
Even in our day-to-day experiences of life, we can clearly observe how external environment and happening exercise initially their distinct influence on the development of our culture. A poor boy, living in the rugged atmosphere of the slums, seems to develop a tendency to protest and fight while another, born of wealth and security, is generally more refined and cultured. This can be observed particularly in a bus queue where the latter waits and takes his turn while the former often protests, rushes and forces himself in.
Civilization flourishes with the promotion of culture, but when cultural values degenerate, the civilization of a society breaks down as we have seen in the fall of Egyptian, Greek , and Roman Empires. The great religious masters of this country, using their own earnest efforts have time and again, revived the values for which the country stood and thereby arrested the degeneration of our culture. When culture degenerates, there is an increase in cruelty and immorality in the country and its philosophy is misinterpreted leading to confusion and disorder among its people. This , in short, is more or less the sad condition of the present world. The need of the hour is forthwith to arrest degeneration by reviving the great the values of life.
In no other literature in the world have these values been so beautifully and exhaustively dealt with as in the scared books of our country . Hence, it becomes the primary duty of each one of us to dedicate oneself to unearthing the sacred message of our books and highlighting the values for the rest of mankind to follow and be richly benefited.
Knowledge tempered with experience will become wisdom.
Laws control the lesser man. Right conduct controls the greater one.
Quote from True Religion always Help-When nothing Else can Console
‘I have seen with mine eyes the Tathaagata walking upon earth and teaching men his wonderful doctrine. But you would not have listened to the words of righteousness while surrounded with temptation, while under the spell of passion and yearning for worldly pleasures. You would not have listened to the teachings, of the “Tathagata, have listened to the teachings of the Tathagata, for your heart was wayward. And you set your trust on the sham of your transient charms.
‘The charms of a lovely form are treacherous, and quickly lead into temptations, which have proved too strong for you. But there is a beauty which will not face, and if you but listen to the doctrine of our Lord, the Buddha, you will find that peace which you never would have found in the restless world of sinful pleasures.
I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha

Acquire Emotional Intelligence

Monday 8 –May- 2010
Acquire Emotional Intelligence
All of us fight or argue with our brothers, sisters, friends, parents and life partners too. We may find ourselves in a similar situation at our place of work. Sometimes such an embarrassing situation is intentional, and sometimes unintentional . However controlled we are, everyone’s emotions go hay wire from time to time and force us to behave in undesirable ways. But we can actually train our brain to keep our emotions at bay. What we need is a boost in our emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) It helps us measure our ability to identify, assess, and mange our emotions as well as others’. If we are able to achieve it, we can understand ourselves better and care for ourselves and enjoy happier and healthier relationships, Most of the time we lay the blame at someone else’s door; instead, we should try to re-align our feelings and emotions. This would certainly boost our feel-good quotient.
When we accost people, we frequently ask questions out of habit without really caring about the answer. As we speed by people we ask questions such as “How are you?” ”How is it going?” etc. We wont even wait or pause a moment for an answer. Instead , we must hone our empathetic skills by asking a question you want to know the answer to. When we ask, we must look the other person in the eye and wait for a reply . The other person will certainly feel that you are genuinely interested , and will answer promptly and will also perhaps ask how you’re doing. The result is you will develop more satisfying relationships with those around you.
In our day-to-day lives we find ourselves in situations that really upset us. The irritant may be close to us or a vendor in market. According to Maurice Jesse Elias, a psychologist who coauthored Educating People to be Emotionally intelligent, we must take time to reflect on why and on how we reacted and then work on concrete ways to stay calm. First we notice our voice goes up when our temper flares. So we should try to drop it from’ out of control’ to ‘upset’ level and ‘absolutely under control’ level. If we do so, we can control ourselves. We can achieve this with practice. The easiest way is to be observant of people around us in different tight spots and their reaction. Certainly, this teaches us invaluable lessons as to how we should be or, shouldn’t be.
So try to be ‘emotionally efficient.
Mind cannot practice not to do; it can only practice what to do.
One object of Concentration
If you learn how to withdraw your attention from all objects of distraction and to place it upon one object of concentration, you too will know how to attract at will whatever you need. Pramhansa Yogananda
God Does Not Reward Or Punish You
God does not reward or punish you. He has given you the power to reward or punish yourselves by the use or misuse of your own reason and will power. If you transgress the laws of health, prosperity, and wisdom you must inevitably suffer from sickness, poverty, and ignorance.
The cultured give happiness wherever they go; the uncultured, whenever they go!
Old age comes with the passage of time. Maturity comes by deep reflection.
Sing the song of the secular to the sruti of the sacred and bring out the melody of life
Melancholy is the language of delusion. Joy is the music of truth.
Each day comes bearing its gifts. Unite the ribbons.
A Reminder From God
I was regretting the past and fearing the future. Suddenly , I heard God speaking. “My name is “I AM’. He paused . I waited. He continued, “When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard for you because I am not there. My name is not “I WAS’.
“When you live in the future with its unknowns and fears, it is hard for you because I am not there. My name is not “I WILL BE’, “But when you live in this moment, it is not hard, because I am here. My name is ‘I AM”.
Money
If money is possessed by man there is a charm
If money is posses by money there is all herm
People worship money not out of servitude but out of gratitude.
They regarded it as Goddess Lakshmi
Quite natural it is
For, money has helped them in so money ways!

Quote from True Religion always Helps
Righteousness that springs from love of God and from the yearning for continuing in His love is indestructible. This is the fountain of true religion , which expresses itself in life as truthfulness, purity, self-control, non-violence, forbearance, compassion, equanimity, detachment, other-regard , straightforwardness, and longing for liberation or enlightenment.
Whoever we may be whatever our situation in life, religion always stand by and sustains us. Not only that, if we pass away before attaining enlightenment, true religion carries over to us in the next life the merits earned by us in this life.
Religion is not eh friend of one life alone; it is our eternal friend, even in life after death.
