Plan your New Year

Every year we ring in the New Year and experience the phenomenon of being connected to everyone else. We’re tied together by the calendar. Even though we lead separate lives and have distinctly different journeys from every other person, we can’t escape the fact that January 1 starts a new year for us all.
Then, of course, there are all the other holidays throughout cultures — and the calendar — that signal rebirth and new beginnings.
Our reaction to the New Year is not necessarily shared, though. For as many that celebrate it, there are countless others that ignore it. Some use the occasion as a point of renewal while others take time to measure progress. It’s a personal decision that should always be honored as a matter of choice.

Selfless action is the outward expression of selfless love. When the heart is filled with love, it expresses itself in the form of unselfish action. One is a deep inner feeling and the other its outward manifestation. Without deep, unconditional love, selfless actions cannot be performed.

Monday, 19, March 2012 Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free. Today I can feel sad that I don’t have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste. Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive. Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate the fact that thorns have roses . Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark on a guest to find new relationships . Today I can complain because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do. Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped . And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping . what today will be like, is up to me. I have to choose what kind of day I will have! Common Mistakes of Man The delusion that personal gain is made by crushing others, the tendency to worry about things that cannot be changed or corrected, insisting that thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it, refusing to set aside trivial differences, neglecting development and refinement of the mind, and not acquiring the habit of reading and study, attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do are the common mistakes of man. Let us Learn A lesson From The geese Have you ever wondered why migrating gees fly in a V formation? As with most animal behaviour , God had a good reason for including that in their instincts. As each bird flaps its winds it crest uplift for the bird following. In a V formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% more flying range than if each bird flew alone. Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the darg of trying to fly, so , it is quickly gets back into formation. Like geese, people who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going, quicker and easier than those who try to do it alone. When a leading goose gets tired, it slides back in the formation and another goose flies ahead in that position. If people had as much sense as geese, they would realize that ultimately their success depends on working as team taking turns in doing the hard tasks, and sharing leadership. Geese in the rear of the formation make a typical honking sounds to encourage those in front to increase their speed. It is important that such honking from behind be outraging. When a goose gets sick or wounded two other geese drop out of formatin and follow it down to help and provide protection. They stay with the unhealthy member of the flock until is either able to fly aging or dies. Then they fly out again with another passing flock or try to catch up with their own. May we be so sacrificial, that we may be worthy of such friends in our time of need. Could their be a formula for success? Yes, There is. Before that, we must see what is success or who is a successful person? The answer could very depending upon the type of person to whom you are asking the question.
For a student, it could be a pass from one class to other. For a businessman it could be to make huge profits etc. those success on the material plane are limited, momentary and again depend on variety of factors. If you approach these so called successful people and ask for the secret so success, they will have different stories to tell about their failures or shortcomings. But for me, the ultimate successful person in life is one who is always happy and contended in life
Some of your may ask what is it that stand in the way between us and happiness? In other words why are we so much miserable? The answer is simple –it is our self-centeredness.
We live in an age where we are getting progressively more self-centered. Whether it is at home, school , college, office or in interactions with friends. Relatives, we tend to think more about what we are getting . In all relationships, we are only more bothered about how much the other person is doing or not doing. The result? Breakdowns in relationships, frustration at the workplace-a definite recipe for misery.
We may not know when selfish attitude becomes a predominant trait and influences our personality. Perhaps it could be even without our awareness. This is why it is very important to make a conscious effort to deal within. But how?.
The answer is only by an “attitude of service”. As it is much more than actual service. I am afraid, when you hear the word “service” you may think, in the process of serving people , you will be deprived of all your possessions and little enjoyments. But the first and last beneficiary count of such an attitude is only You. When we deal in the world with an attitude or spirit of service, we think about what we can give in any interaction rather than what we can gain from it.
This attitude can be cultivated and comes out of an awareness of all that we have been blessed with. When you realize what you have been given, unasked and unexpected, you realize how important it is to give back.
When you begin to function out of an attitude of service, you begin thinking of what you can give. And strangely, you would end up benefiting the most.
The benefit that comes out of service is a sense of inner peace. It comes out of the satisfaction of doing whatever you can for the common good of the people. The society improves as a result of your service. A little effort of yours can go a long way in helping others. And the most important benefit is that it helps you progress on the spiritual path by overcoming your selfishness, bit by bit, . It makes you more humane towards the environment and people around you.
The whole world will stand up and say” Here is a successful person” because he has fulfilled the purpose of human life.

Its beauty is the beauty and spiritual potential, whereas the beauty of advancing and old age is the beauty of serenity attained though experience ; it is the beauty of growth in mind and spirit which is far superior to the beauty of mere flesh. Those shoe have been nurtured in religion from childhood, manifest with advancing age a power and a glow child is hardly ever seen in youth. Where others feel frustration, boredom and disgust in old age, those who practice spiritual disciplines experience sweetness and joy in spite of their falling body. Through spiritual discipline they have come to experience in the depths of their being an awareness of the ineffable . Spiritual joy far outweighs the loss of physical pleasure.
The real man is not the body. He is not the mind. He is the Atman. Only religion brings one this awareness in vivid experience. With this plenary experience one becomes a liberated soul. Such a soul experience unalloyed bliss and happiness . One radiant peace, light and sweetness.

Cobwebs are suggestive of age and disuse. We often hear people say, ‘get rid of the cobwebs of the mind.’ ‘Cobwebs stand for old fashioned ideas and prejudices that prevent progress. The saying calls one to shed old fashioned and outdated ideas and practices that hamper progress. To do things as they have always been done before is not always the best way of doing them. In the light of later experience, it proves wrong.
Many firms have struggled to carry on the old traditions initiated by the founder. This is in true respect to the principle that’ what was good enough for me”. While doing so they watched the businesses decline. So it requires someone with a more alert and more modern outlook to find a better line of thought. One must have the courage to introduce new ideas. If you ask a retiring person what he thinks of some new invention or changes, he disapproves. It is difficult to persuade a man to change his outlook on life or business, but not impossible. Such a person needs guidance. We must convince him that it is of no use denying the demands of the modern age we live in and work in. as the world progresses we must be able to find our place in the scheme of things, step-by-step.
One must not rest satisfied having achieved a little, but be determined to achieve more. Never mind what may or may not have been done in the past. Keep an open mind and bring a fresh outlook to make sure of progress.
Dusty desks and dusty minds! They both need cleaning and refreshing. No one can work comfortably in a closed room. If you are conscious of cobwebs, get rid of them from your mind. They hold you down, narrow your outlook and prevent you from making the most of life.

When we focus our mind with single-pointed attention on a particular object-when we put all our energies into acquiring it-then without doubt, success is guaranteed and we will attain what we wish to achieve.

This is what happens to those who have realized the Self through either knowledge or devotion. Even while working, they are able to see themselves as different from one who is working. They are like ripe coconuts; the kernel within has been separated from the shell. Shake the coconut and hear the sound! We, in contrast, are like tender coconuts-the kernel and the shell are closely bound to one another. A blow on the shell affects the kernel too. We become” ripe” through the practice of Karma Yoga. As in a ripe coconut, our “;kernel and shell’ get separated. The Self gets separated from the mind, intellect, ego, sense organs and the body. It then lives blissfully in its own true nature.
Having discarded all external coverings, the Self is able to stand by itself. Not to speak of the waking state , even in sleep the illumined person sees his or her own body as if ti were someone else’s , as if someone else were sleeping. The poet-saint Ramparasad sang in Bengali;
Sleep has left me, no more shall I sleep.
In the state of Yoga, I am awake.
Her mystic sleep ; to Her have I returned
And have put my sleep to sleep!
This is the state in which the illumined ones lives; they can understand perfectly the meaning of this song. The more selfless our work is , the more our I-consciousness gradually shifts away from the body and the senses, and come to rest in the Self. We then experience the state described in the song above.

Common Bond
Terence, who was born a slave and made something of himself in Rome twenty-one centuries ago, said this. “I am a man nothing that concerns mankind is alien to me”. He was a comedian and was the first to proclaim the principle of common kinship in man.
Whether he is a black, red, brown or white , whether his language is different from yours whether he is rich or poor , whether he is a slave or free, whether this appearance is different form your whether his thoughts about life are different from yours, you have one common bond with an other person in the Universe.
The suffering, the sorrows, the greed, the despair, the loneliness and emptiness, the insecurity and uncertainly, the doubt and fear are the same. We all suffer the same. But there is a far greater bond that can hold us tougher. The faith and hope fortitude and persistency , smiles and laughter, understanding and courage, self respect and self-acceptance, confidence and encouragement, we can give each other in times of crises and in times of peace, seeking peace of mind. This is the greatest bond of all to hold us together as we struggle in the slow evolution form hatred, to tolerance, to love.
At no time in history has the call of unity of all people been greater then now. In this time of agonizing wars, in this time of nuclear weapons that threatens human existence. I believe that human understanding and sympathy. I believe that human encouragement and dignity will hold us together for a better world.
Sense of Self-Worth
Without a personal philosophy, a strong perception of who you are and what you stand for, you get buffeted around by every person, message, idea and event that comes down the road. You will find yourself running off in all directions at once. Instead of focusing on important problems .
The person who stands out in the crowd demonstrates that he has his own set of values and has a strong sense of self-worth. While the winds of conflicting idea blow some people away., and the tides of various fads(crazy ideas) wash others away, he will stand firm . and that is a big part of being smart and to get ahead and stay ahead.
Thoughts And Aspiration
You cannot get back yesterday. You are not sure of tomorrow. Today is yours to make whatever you want.
Let me be as good a I can. But never feel that I am superior to others. Let me never forget that the others are always better than I am.
You are not the body! You are the immortal soul within! There fore, do not become a slave of the body. Do not keep running after shadow shapes that come and go!
It is vital that we cultivate the healing habit of silence in this age of noise and ceaseless activity.
In prayer , we talk to God so much that we fail to hear His Voice. Learn to be still-and you will hear His Voice!
God is the Life of our life. He s the Breath of our breath. He is the Universal Self which is in each one of us. How can I get away from my true self?
Our life is shaped by our attitude . If you start complaining, there is so much to complaining. There is so much to complain about. It is the attitude that counts.
Enthusiasm is the greatest asset you can possess-for it can take you further than money power or influence.
Do not commit the sin of harboring an uncharitable thought against a brother or of slandering anyone behind his back.
Our thoughts are all-powerful. How many of us can really control them?
Miracles do happen in the live of individuals who lay their trust in God!
No one else is to blame for your present condition. You have built it with your own thoughts and desires. Generated in the near or distant past.
