A view of Vedanta

So you can see that when it came to religion. I did not find that I had to reject anything in Vedanta. I have practised ritualism and found it quite satisfying i have practiced meditation and found it quite satisfying. I have absorbed myself in devotional attitudes. I have found that , too, quite satisfying . I have also practiced the path of janana or reasoning a great deal and I have found that, also quite satisfying , I have become absorbed in ACTION and I have found that satisfying too. In other words from my own personal experience I have been convinced that all paths are equally fruitful for all equally spell for me the same truth the same monism. I have not , there fore, seen any contradiction in following a variety of paths.

Yes this is the great game . Something is there because of which the one reality appears as manifold. But i am not convinced that the individuals in this manifold difference in the quality of Divinity that they manifest. in this , all are the same . There are difference but they are differences of kind only . For example there is a kind of consciousness. Let us say tree consciousness, which is different from human consciousness, but it is equally effective, equally great. I can imagine also along the same train of thought, that there is a kind of consciousness known as stone consciousness which is equally as important , as significant , and as high as human consciousness or as ANGELIC consciousness- it is just different in kind. As long as I am completely identified with human consciousness or tree consciousness or lion consciousness, but if i could become pure consciousness, separating myself form the human ingredients in me. I could then identify myself with any type of consciousness and perceive it intuitively, directly. I myself have known some who have done that, and they say that tree consciousness, for instance , is an equally high state of consciousness , but completely different from human consciousness, but completely different  that when the hour passed in which their consciousness was beyond the limits of its own kind of knowing and they had indentified once more with human consciousness, they could not express what they had experienced in that state of elevation in terms of their human existence.

Prayer is an earnest hope or a wish, a request for help or expression of thanks made to God. Petition is the kind of prayer that begs for determinate objects. Supplication is when things sought are indeterminate. Obsecration is a solemn adjuration, asking a favour. Thanksgiving is the returning of thanks for benefits received.

Among all the means of salvation recommended by Jesus Christ in the Gospel, the first place is given to prayer. “Cry to me, and I will hear you. Call upon me and I will deliver you. Ask and it shall be given to you. Seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.” Prayer is a source of strength.

By reading and meditating, we learn a lot, but by prayer, we obtain the grace to do it. Worldwide, the tradition of prayer has been a source of immense faith and strength. Brahma got the Gayatri Mantra, by akashvani, divine voice. It is said that because of this, Brahma got the power of creation.

The holy rosary of Mother Mary is a profound and meaningful form of prayer. Therein we contemplate the central mysteries of Christian life — the redemption of humankind through the incarnation, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s son born of the blessed Virgin Mary. The rosary is a powerful form of traditional prayer; it involves our whole person.

 

The rosary employs repetition, an essential element in the language of love. As a result, we identify with our Lord and his blessed Mother by applying their saving deeds to our own life with its joys, sorrows and triumphs.

I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Peace and Blessedness.

Every good act inspires one for another. Things constantly change in this world, but the memory remains; and the memory of an unselfish, noble act brings great strength and consolation to the soul. A true devotee really enjoys pain when he can relieve someone by taking it on himself. He is only afraid to give pain to others; but he loves to take pain on himself, if by so doing he can bring peace and happiness to another. This is the way the sincere devotee always feels and always tries to act.

Let your earnest prayer be that all your association and contact with life may bring you strength and inspiration for your work, and that you may find peace even in the midst of great difficulties. Difficulties and danger are bound to come to all, but those who meet them calmly and bravely, they grow stronger for them; while those who give way and succumb to them, they are always miserable .

No work was ever accomplished without meeting with opposition, and it is indeed a great blessing when we receive blows. If there is anything real in a man, he cannot help but bring it out then; for a noble soul is noble under all circumstances. Unless we can absolutely give up all our feelings and opinions, we are bound to meet with opposition. Where is the remedy? The remedy is in ourselves; it is in our own sincere conviction and purity of life.  Nothing else can give us the fearlessness which comes through the practice of unselfishness. Let us there fore try to serve truly, knowing that all power comes through time service. Let us make it our constant prayer at life . divine feet that we may prove ourselves exemplary characters and a blessing to all those who come near us.

Overcome Suffering

I am often asked how to end suffering. You are so focused on action that you don’t realise that action born out of ignorance is an extension of ignorance. We have to enlighten our action with understanding.

You are the creator of your suffering. This understanding will help you dissolve suffering. An unhappy person in heaven will convert even heaven into hell; ahappy person can convert hell into heaven. So, change is not required anywhere except within you. If you have an unhappy mind, even if you are in heaven, you will ‘stink’. So, to overcome suffering, you have to understand that your unhappy mind is the cause.

There are two types of sufferings.

Legitimate and illegitimate.

Legitimate suffering is sorrow that is proportionate to the situation. For example, your loved one dies. This sorrow is valid.

But if you continue worrying for more than one or two years, then there is a psychological aspect to it. To handle legitimate sufferings, you should understand that such suffering is the result of your past deeds.

Illegitimate suffering is suffering that is not proportionate to the situation.

Surrender is real growth. Growth involves no suffering. Resistance to suffering creates suffering.

Very often, we suffer because we are not open to the vastness of life. We are bound by our knowledge. We are dead to something that is beyond our knowledge.

What we know is finite and what we do not know is infinite.

To be alive and limited to what we know, and dead to what we do not know, is a deep cause for suffering.

Avoid Depression

Of all the tyrannies of human kind, the worst is which persecutes the mind. If you seek to understand what depression means, both astronomically and economically, it suggests something that lowers, sinks or a slump. Do you think it means differently with a persecuted mind? Even psychologically it means dejection and dispiritedness.

When we pass through a bout of depression, we displace ourselves from our true selves instead of being displaced by some outside force. We withdraw into our own selves. Such a thing happens to us when we are hurt, and disappointed or by the tiny pinpricks or what we call social “slights” caused by someone in our family, office, circle of friends. We are so “think-skinned” that others must be on guard lest offence be taken at some innocent word or act, whenever i see people “depressed” I question myself why i never feel depressed longer like them or sometimes feel like experimenting by forcing my true self into a depressed mood and not letting it out . but i sit back and be thankful to my spirit that heals me faster and helps me bounce back sooner.

Everyone of us is not psychologist, Needn’t be too We must accept a simple fact that many of us have no covering over our ego. We have only the think, sensitive inner layer over it. We need to become emotionally tougher, so that we can simply ignore petty cut and minor ego-threats, we can even have a fair and frank talk across the talk. Open our heart and mind . think of matters from others point of view, build our self-esteem, and more adequate self-image so that we don’t feel threatened by nervy chance remark or innocent act. A big strong man does not feel threatened by s simple slight or a small ‘danger’; a little man does. In the same way a healthy and strong mind, with plenty of self-esteem doesn’t feel itself threatened by every innocent remark. Further, it helps us move on in life by moving closer to people rather than “retreating “into our own cocoon” ie “Self” courtesy wisdom

So the external things can only give us the environments. These competitions and struggles and evils that we see are not the effect of the involution or the cause, but they are in the way. If they did not exist, still man would go n and evolve as God, because it is the very nature of that God to come out and manifest Himself. To my mind this seems very hopeful, instead of that horrible idea of competition. The more I study history, the more I find with man, he would not progress. I also used to think so; but I find now that every war has thrown back human progress by fifty years instead of hurrying it forwards. The day will come when men will study history from a different light and find that competition is neither the cause nor the effect , simply a thing on the way, not necessary to evolution at all.

The theory of Patanjali is the only theory I thnk a rational man can accept . how much evil the modern system cause! Every wicked man has a licence to be wicked under it. I have seen in this country (America) physical who say that all criminals out to be exterminated and that that is the only way in which criminality can be eliminated from society. These environments can hinder, but they are not necessary to progress. The most horrible thing about competition is that one may conquer the environments , but that where one may conquer, thousand are crowded out. So it is evil at best. That cannot be good which helps only one and hinders the majority. Patanjali says that these struggles remain only through our ignorance, and are not necessary and are not part of the evolution of man. It is just our impatience which creates them. We have not patience to go and work our way out. For instance, there is a fire in a theatre, and only a few escape . the crush was not necessary for the salvation of the building nor of the two or three who escaped . if all had gone out slowly , not one would have been hurt. That is the case in life. The doors are open for us, and we cn ll get out without the completion and struggle, and yet we struggle. The struggle we create through our own ignorance, through impatience, we are in tow great a hurry. The highest manifestation fo strength is to keep ourselves calm and on our own feet.
