Towards the goal supreme

Quote from the True charm and power of Vedanta

Towards the goal  supreme

The unripe mind may be Satvic, Rajasic or Tamasic . those who have the Satvic mind are religious by nature. They have a keen desire to realize God, to walk along the path of righteousness and to do good to others,. They strive also to acquire their qualities but due to various treasons such as misfortune, physical unfitness of their thinking themselves week and incompetent, they do not advance far and easily lose heart. Those who have the Rajasic mind are so much engrossed with the world and worldly pursuits that they do not bother themselves much about religion, or they pretend to be religious or at the utmost try to make the best of both worlds. Those who have Tamas are mostly the evil-doers. Their only thought and endeavor is how to injure and ruin others. They are lustful greedy –sinners.

persons of an unripe mind who devote themselves to doing good to their country or to the world, or who build up institutions for allied purposes, do more harm than good to the world in the long run despite their lofty aims. They cannot long remain faithful to their higher ideals amidst the various blows and counterblows of the world they succumb to temptations in spite of hard struggles. The desires for name, fame, position and power grow strong in them, while jealousy hatred narrowness and selfishness get such a hold over them that all their work ends in smoke. Not only that, but by infecting society with the poison which is within them, they even corrupt many well-meaning persons, and arouse suspicion and mistrust in the public mind towards all philanthropic works and religious bodies and institutions and even against religion itself.

Nine-step blueprint to raise our consciousness

By Manish Garg

Navratri is the core principle of teachings in the Shakti tradition. It is a reminder to every practitioner to rise from lower to higher consciousness.

Before proceeding further, let us have some clarity on the glossary. Bhaga is purity. Agni is considered the symbol of purity and the colour of fire is called Bhagwa. One who possesses roop, beauty, is roopwaan; one who possesses dhan, wealth, is dhanwaan; similarly, the one who has Bhaga, the purity of consciousness, is called Bhagwan.

Equally, for the feminine gender, one who possesses roop is roopwati; one who possesses dhan is dhanwati; similarly, the one who has Bhaga, the purity of consciousness, is Bhagwati. Shakti tradition is primarily matriarchal, therefore, the principal deity is Bhagwati. Every committed practitioner is a Parvati, who has to ascend the parvat, mountain, of tapasya, arduous hard work, and immerse herself into a yajna, an enterprise of the evolution of consciousness.

Navratri codifies the practice of Bhagwati. It is the code of discipline that a Parvati has to undertake to become Bhagwati, pure.

Day one starts at the manifested lowest form of consciousness as the daughter of stone Shailputri. Day two is dedicated to Brahmcharni, the stony sadhak goes through a strong physical and mental discipline to tame her body and mind and makes herself ready for the next level of progression.

On day three, the practitioner gains stability on the strong foundation of discipline and Parvati enters the practice of meditation. Serenity of mind is denoted as Chandraghanta. Meditation makes her pure and full of divine possibilities as Kushmanda, on day four of the journey. This divine possibility bears fruit in the form of vairagya, skand, detachment. At this stage the practitioner is called Skandmata. Continuous practice on the path, powered by discipline, devotion and dispassion bestows the sadhak with supreme knowledge. At this stage the practitioner is called Katyayani.

Blessed with knowledge and detachment, the practitioner continues through a very long time – Kaalratri – and attains a state of supreme tranquility, Mahagouri. The practice reaches the state of perfection – Siddhidatri. The sadhak becomes Durga, the highest state of consciousness, and finally overcomes the entire heaviness – lassitude, sloppiness and ignorance – of his consciousness called Mahishasur.

Durga is the one who has conquered the durg, fort of her ignorance. Durga is the one who has performed the most durgam, onerous, task of winning over the demons of her consciousness.

Consciousness is the controlling element of this existence, and the purpose of existence is the evolution of consciousness from jad, inert, to chetan, animate.  Navratri is the journey from jad to chetan.

We need to devote nine days, in other words, our entire life towards intense discipline and meditation to raise our consciousness and win over the heaviness of our mind, body and consciousness.

IF HE EXIST

I drive joy there was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting 7 precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting 7 minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste 7 minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 7minutes joy that I derive 4m.-

Towards the Goal Supreme

Quote from the True charm and power of Vedanta

Towards the Goal Supreme

Only he who has succeeded in merging his own will in the Will of God has a right to say, “I am of God has a right to say, “I am being irresistibly driven to do all this. I am the machinery and He is the Operator” That can be done only by a devotee of the highest type, who knows nothing else but God, he never takes a false step even unwittingly; no wicked deed can ever be done by him, his heart remains filled with irrepressible strength and inspiration and is never assailed by despair or depression; and he is moved neither by happiness nor misery . he always has the feeling of “Nor I, not I , but thou, but Thou ,my Lord” Gain and lose, victory and defeat, honour and dishonor, have all becomes the same to him,

When some work has to be done, you should be full of activity, setting yourself to it with all your heart and soul. Do not pay the slightest heed to obstacles and hindrances, if they turn up , however insuperably they may seem to be . You will then find that those very obstacles and hindrances will actually help you in some way or other,. Is it always possible to have a favorable atmosphere after one’s own heart? The person who thinks that he will devote himself to the worship of God with a carefree mind, after having completed all his duties and settled all his family affairs satisfactorily, fares like the fool who goes to bathe in the sea but frightened by its dreadful waves , thinks he will go into the water only after the waves have subsided a little and the sea become calm. That never comes about, even if he sits on the beach till the last day of his life. There will always be waves in the sea l. one should boldly jump into the sea, bathe fighting with the waves and get through with it. In the same way, in the sea of the world one must call on God, do spiritual practices and worship Him, fighting all along with the waves. But your hope of realization will never be fulfilled if you sit down hugging your knees in despair , and wait for the right moment and the opportune circumstances to turn up

Attaining life in all its fullness

By Valson Thampu

The goal of spirituality, said Jesus Christ, is to enable human beings to attain life in its fullness. This is the least understood, or most misunderstood, of Jesus’ teachings.

One such misunderstanding is that having life in its fullness means becoming richer. This quantitative fallacy equates life with ‘having’ rather than ‘being’. In this view, one’s life is godly depending on how much one prospers. This strange notion drives the prosperity Gospel. It appeals to many Christians, though Jesus himself ‘had nowhere to lay his head’.

The second misunderstanding is that it denotes a safe, secure life, free from all suffering. This too is strange because Jesus is known, and revered, for the unthinkable suffering he endured. Christians worship the Cross and pray for total exemption from suffering, which is strange, to say the least. At any rate, life without suffering caricatures life. It has never existed, nor will it ever exist.

The more ‘spiritual’ among Christians assume that extraordinary spiritual gifts and powers characterise life in its fullness. So, miracle-workers and the high and mighty in the religious hierarchy are supposed to be ‘filled’ with spiritual power and the extraordinary graces that go with it. But, on a closer examination, many of them prove to be pretty ordinary; well short of the spiritual benchmark of life.

What then does ‘life in its fullness’ mean?

Everything depends on how a person understands himself; for one has to seek and attain this state for oneself. One can seek only as per one’s understanding of oneself. The distorted understandings listed above arose because of a misconception in this respect. We are conditioned to think of ourselves as autonomous and self-contained individuals, sharply distinguished from everything else.

According to Jesus, we are to attain ‘life’ in its fullness, not a life of fullness. Seeking the fullness of ‘life’ is quite different from seeking the fullness of one’s life. Life is a great deal more than each one of us, and all of us taken together. The notion that we are discreet, autonomous, selves who ‘own’ their life – as in ‘my life’ – is a delusion. We are part of a seamless web of life that extends to the cosmos. This is intuited in the astrological assumption that the configuration of celestial bodies at the time of one’s birth affects a person lifelong. Ideally, the whole of life should express itself through each individual. One’s life should mirror life in its fullness.

Such ‘fullness’ embraces everything and everyone. It excludes none. That is why to the spiritually enlightened, there are no strangers and enemies. The Indic spiritual vision of tatvam asi, that thou art, adumbrates this mindset. Certainly one of its meanings is that labels of otherness should be inadmissible. The proof, therefore, that we are oriented to ‘life in its fullness’ is that we feel at one with all human beings; indeed, with the whole of creation. The entire world is my home.

Life can be had only in full, for it is dynamic. Just as we cannot breathe in half – inhaling alone – so also, we cannot live life in part. Restlessness lurks wherever what is meant to be whole is kept in part-ness. Like the two halves of an apple sliced in the middle, it will be burdened with the pressures of disequilibrium. Such a state contravenes the law of nature. Only human beings entertain the delusion that they can live as isolated atoms; or that it is an achievement to do so.

Towards the Goal Supreme

Quote from the True charm and power of Vedanta

Towards the Goal Supreme

Only an Incarnation of God can be free from faults and imperfections and endowed with all the blessed qualities. the conduct and dealings even of a man of Realization of a highly advanced and revered spiritual teacher, or of a fully qualified Guru, may not be entirely without defects or imperfections, errors of judgment or lack of proper understanding of song sort or other. But their exceptional merits predominate to such an extent that even their defects and eccentricities often serve as embellishments to their character and make them all the more loveable . Besides leaving apart these exalted personages, the age of love does not see the ugliness or blemishes of persons who are loved or adored.

Convert Pain Into Wisdom

By SADHGURU JAGGI VASUDEV

For many people nowadays, whatever has happened in the past has become an excuse for what they are right now, ‘I am like this because somebody abused me.’ I am not saying this without any concern or lack of compassion for such things, but this problem has taken on major proportions.

If they do something nasty and somebody asks them, ‘Why did you do such a thing?’ people say, ‘When I was a child, you know what my uncle did to me?’ Iam not trying to belittle somebody’s unpleasant experiences. I know there is pain behind it, but do we want to continue to harvest pain or do we want to convert this pain into wisdom and harvest wisdom out of our experience of life?

That is a choice every human being has. Especially if you have been abused, if you have been put through unpleasant situations in your life, you should be sensible enough not to put anybody else in those situations. Isn’t that an intelligent way to be? But many people just use the unpleasant experiences in their past as something to hide behind. If something unpleasant happens to us, what should be our first thought? ‘This should never again happen to me or to anyone.’

This is very human. But because something unpleasant happened to you, if you repeat that and say, ‘I am doing this because they did it to me,’ this needs to be looked at. Especially if you have been abused and you know the pain of being abused, you should ensure it never happens to anybody.

IF HE EXIST

I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.-
