The Unending Horizon of Truth
As Isaac Newton neared the end of his life, a close friend visited him, reflecting on the extraordinary contributions he had made to science. This friend remarked that Newton must surely feel a deep sense of pride in having uncovered so many of nature’s hidden laws. It seemed a natural assumption — after all, Newton’s discoveries had reshaped humanity’s understanding of the universe.
Yet Newton’s response
was far from self-congratulatory. With humility in his voice, he explained that
pride was not what he felt. Instead, he saw himself as a mere child on the
seashore, playing with brightly colored shells and smooth pebbles. These small
treasures, beautiful though they were, represented only a fraction of what lay
before him.
He imagined, beyond that shore, an immense and boundless ocean — the ocean of truth. Its waters stretched endlessly, holding mysteries far beyond what he had touched in his lifetime. The discoveries he had made, though significant to the world, seemed to him like only the faintest beginning.
Newton’s metaphor
painted a vivid picture of curiosity without end. Knowledge, he believed, was
not a fixed destination but an infinite expanse. Each revelation opened the
door to countless new questions, and every scientific advance was but a step
into a still greater unknown.
This humility
underscored Newton’s greatness more than his discoveries did. He recognized
that even the brightest human mind could grasp only fragments of the vast
reality around us. The “few shells” he referred to were the laws and principles
he had uncovered, but the “ocean” represented the truths yet hidden in the
depths of existence.
His words carry a timeless lesson: no matter how far we progress in understanding, there will always be more to learn. The pursuit of truth is an endless journey, and the moment we believe we have arrived, we risk closing ourselves to new wonders.
In the end, Newton
left the world not with a final proclamation of mastery, but with an invitation
— to keep searching, to keep questioning, and to approach the mysteries of life
with the humility of a child on the shore, gazing at an infinite sea.
Dancing to Life’s Tune: The Power of Thought and Action
A wise thinker once said, “We cannot always choose the music life plays for us, but we can choose how to dance to it.” You are not a powerless puppet dangling on invisible strings. While you may not be able to rewrite your present in an instant, you hold the ability to shape your future. The circumstances you live in today are the results of past choices. To create a brighter tomorrow, you must make better, more conscious decisions today.
You alone carry the
keys to your destiny. With confidence born from knowledge, you can craft a
future rich in purpose and joy. No one else can forecast the path ahead for
you; it is your own thoughts that carve its shape. A single, inspired idea has
the potential to alter not just your life, but sometimes even the course of
nations and societies.
The law of karma never falters. Like gravity, it works unfailingly and without bias. Every deliberate action you take brings forth a matching consequence. Actions born of greed, anger, or ignorance plant seeds of suffering. But when your actions are guided by kindness, generosity, and wisdom, you reap a harvest of abundance and contentment.
Desire fuels action,
and desire springs from vasana — the subtle mental
impressions that shape your inclinations. As your vasana, so your desires; as your desires, so your actions; as
your actions, so your environment. Acting under the grip of desire strengthens
those very tendencies. But when you act from duty, even without personal
preference, you begin to break free from the cycle. Just as an apple seed can
never grow into a mango tree, the seeds you plant — whether of joy or sorrow —
will determine the fruits you reap.
Though destiny (prarabdha) may steer you in a certain direction, free will (purushartha) gives you the power to change your course entirely. No
matter how troubled your past, consistent positive effort can rewrite your
life’s story. Your thoughts are the blueprint of your reality: think joyfully
and you will create a joyful life; think bitterly and you will invite
bitterness. When the external world feels hostile, the surest path to change is
to elevate your thoughts — the world will gradually rise to meet them.
Greatness requires an expanded mind. It is not earned merely through more degrees, sharper skills, or influential connections. It begins with higher thinking. This is challenging, for the pull of selfish desires and attachments is strong. The guidance of the wise is essential to ignite such transformation.
In the end, understand
the fleeting nature of worldly gains and set your heart on what is eternal.
With knowledge of the higher truths, you will still enjoy life’s passing
pleasures — but without being bound by them. Surround yourself with uplifting
people, nourishing ideas, and noble aspirations. As your mind grows to embrace
the higher, you naturally release the lower. And in that freedom, you take your
leap into the limitless realm of the Infinite.
IF HE EXIST
I drive joy there was a doctor in Benaras who
spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this,
his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was
wasting 7 precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into
believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am
wasting 7 minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your
entire lifetime. I prefer to waste 7 minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should
you grudge me the 7minutes joy that I derive 4m.-
