GOD AND THE WORLD

According to Vedanta the highest expression of spiritual knowledge is Hindu culture, three points of view from which God’s relationship with the world can be discussed  in dualism. God is personal and extra-cosmic, and the universe, like a machine or a pot made out of self-existent materials or atoms which are real. This may be called the theory of atomic agglomeration. In what is known as qualifies non –dualism. God is personal impersonal and is immanent in Nature. Here the universe is looked upon as an Organism. It is real and passes through gross and subtle states in a cyclic order. This is the theory of evolution and involution.

In the third point of view known as non-dualism or monism, the Divine who is really impersonal and transcendent appears as the universe though the power of Maya or delusive and creative Ignorance. With its limitations of time, space and causation. My forms , as it were , the matrix of matter and mind. This appearance is taken to be real as long as the soul is in ignorance , but it is found to be unreal with the dawn of true knowledge, which reveals the nature of Reality

None of these theories advocates th idea of creation out of nothing. In the first tow the cause of gross matter is subtle matter, and destruction is not annihilation but is only going back to the cause . Through ignorance men take the world to be a reality of the first order. With the dawn of higher knowledge, the world is found to be a reality of lesser order dependent on the Divine who alone in the Reality of the first order. According to the monist, Brahman or Reality appears as the universe. Here there si no question of creation out of nothing as the substratum is always present even when it is not recognized. The power that is partly the cause of this appearance, and the appearance itself are not illusions but empirical realities to the ordinary man. They do not how ever, possess absolute reality , as they disappear when the highest spiritual consciousness is brought about by supreme knowledge

Applying the Vedantic notion of the cosmic Brahmn, from which all emerges and into which all dissolves without any distinction of creed or caste, Vivekananda called upon each person to accept the other. That is the real understanding of the principle of life, the realisation that each is either as divine or as flawed as the other.

His notion of God as the Infinite Self exhorts us all to tap into our dormant selves, wherein lies the infinite capacity to become good and compassionate. He believed that the rejection of the other stems from our own fears and insecurities, and his clarion call was to awaken from this hypnotism of weakness. His watchword of the acceptance of the other led him to envision a ‘Vedantic brain with an Islamic body’ as roadmap towards greater understanding and empathy between traditions in the Indian context.

This view of a mystical Self at the root of all religions stems from the experiential life of Vivekananda’s own guru, Ramakrishna, who immersed himself in the practice of all faiths, to finally arrive at the view that all faiths lead us to realisation of the inner Self. Vivekananda’s pluralistic vision was grounded in the fact that this common core of all faiths was not merely an intellectual assertion but an experiential realisation of his guru.

His call to rise above dogmas and ‘isms’ was a call to understand this spiritual core, which binds each one of us.

Humility

When we glance around we see thy wonderful creation of God. Everything has its own place. Its own significance to the Universe Such realization creates a sense of humility . we feel we are only a tiny speck. This humble feeling is not self denial it only teaches us that we must also contribute our mite in preserving what we are enjoying.

Great men like Einstein and Vivekananda were humble. They were certain about their knowledge their goals for humanity their desires to make the world a better place for people. So, Humility is not self denial, it is self affirmation belief in our integrity and dignity as human beings. It is an emotional thermostat which keeps us being ourselves.

As James S. Barrie said “Life is a long lesion a humility” in order to learn to be humble and cultivate humility one should be sincere. We should be sincere to ourselves as well as to other; we must develop the ability to listen and learn. We must always have an inner sense of values and adherence to them, sense of contentment which leads to a state fo peacefulness; strong desire to look for new goals etc. All these ultimately lead one to a state of humility. With this sense of humility you will be a successful being with no vain pride. Courtesy wisdom

When that comes, we can truly be called children of God. Then our religion will not be merely a matter of creed or Scripture, it will be a reality; and this reality is religion. Religion is based on realization. Unless it has become real to us, no amount of argument or reasoning, no amount of observance of outer forms, can bring us anything. we must live the life without condemnation of denunciation. We must let our soul manifest in us. If we have an ideal, we must let it grow; and as it grows it will produce its own effect. What we need therefore is to cultivate our spiritual nature and we do this by right thought . it does not matter what others may think. There is no reason why we should not think in the right way, for what we think, that we reflect. If we have love in our hearts, we send out into the universe a current of love which is united with a similar current; but if we hold unworthy, hateful thoughts, they will come back to us. We shall crate conditions which will be hateful to us and which will set in motion forces which we shall afterwards regret, but which we shall not be able to resist. We can avoid this only by thinking from the beginning in the right way.

Our thought is the seed which determines the fruit of our action. If the seed is good, then the flowers and fruit which come from the seed must be good and must prove beneficial to ourselves and others. But if we plant in our hearts a poisonous seed, it will harm not only ourselves but all who come in contact with us. Human life is a great responsibility. Only a thoughtless man will say; I cannot help what happens, I am not responsible. We are constantly influencing ourselves and our fellow –beings by what we think, because our thought shapes our inner nature and we radiate consciously or unconsciously what we are

Let us be wakeful then. Let us be thoughtful in whatever we do. Let us be faithful to our true Self; for all blessings must come to us, if we prove ourselves true to our higher nature. Courtesy secret of right activity

But if we start forward in a prayerful attitude, with earnest feeling and all the devotion of our soul, then with God’s aid we are able to succeed. We can truly lift our head then, not in an aggressive spirit, but in the consciousness that there is an all-abiding God within us and it is His voice which speaks through us, His mind which works through us, His power which constantly uses us.
