Action With Humility

The Speaking Tree  | ET

By  E RAVISHANKER

Image result for light camera action quoteAmong the many habits that return good health with other benefits, exhibiting humility scores high on the list. Perfunctory humility does not pay dividends; it has to come from within.

But how to realise and bring out pristine humility and how it can help us? The very first line in the Isha Upanishad conveys that everything that moves in universe must be in and pervaded by Isha, the Divine. The Bhagwad Gita says ‘to work alone one has rights; not for the fruits thereof ’.

If the former is the principle, the latter works as the rule to honour the principle. All living beings, owned and pervaded by the Divine, got an opportunity to move around in this world. When every atom including its essence, is pervaded by the Divine, identifying oneself as the ‘cause’ is ignorance.

Only humans have the ability to appreciate this truth. Ability unused is tragedy. If the truth —that everything in the universeis divine — dwells in our mind, we will be able to begin any action with humility, be humane with fellow beings, knowing that it is Divinity that pervades everything. Then we realise that our rights are limited to action only and not with any credits associated with actions.

This attitude catalyses mental freedom to be prepared to strive, suffer, navigate the tide, and excel in our actions, albeit with equanimity. Equanimity improves our ease and peace, thus preventing many health-related complications.

The way forward: by reining humility to Divinity, let us progress with healthy body and sound mind, which are rewards non-measurable.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

No one can ever attain the supreme goal until he has become conscious of his higher Self. The surface being, who constantly identifies himself with physical conditions and makes himself believes that he has no power to conquer, no power to overcome obstacles-that man must be put aside. Nor does this mean self-torture or Self-annihilation, it means rising above limitations. It is not that the physical man must be destroyed-not so –but the causes of those lower impulses in us, which lead us to hate or strike in anger or do any unworthy act, must be rooted out. This is not achieved by destroying our eyes, ears, or any organ by which we may perform evil deeds . we must go behind the sense organs to find the real cause of evil in us. The senses are merely instrumental, and when properly controlled, they become powerful aids towards our spiritual advancement. “Through the practice of austerity man may deaden the feelings of the senses, but longing still lingers in the heart; all longing drop off, when one has attained the Highest.

Choice vs Destiny
March 18, 2018  Economic Times in The Speaking Tree |
By K S RAM

Image result for choice vs destiny quoteAre we free to exercise our will? Or are we just puppets going through motions in life according to a plan, predetermined by asuperior power? Philosophers have pondered over this question since ages. Omar Khayyam thought we were no better than water, flowing willy-nilly, “where Destiny with men for Pieces plays”. Khayyam’s stand is predeterministic. He hints at an unalterable script.

In contrast to this is the traditional view of Judgment Day of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. This view is based on the conviction that each person is wholly responsible for his conduct in life. The Hindu view of karmic transmigration also supposes choice for individual human beings.

Cheiro the palmist compares the human condition to that of a pendulum in motion. The view is close, in a way, to the law of gravity that recognises the interdependence of all bodies, animate and inanimate.

Image result for choice vs destiny quote What suffuses all beings and objects is te Alhl Pervasive: Vishnu or Vidyut in Sanskrit, the Ultimate Truth. To participate and submit to the collective rhythm of creation is to attain to bhakti, Narada conveys in his Sutras. This marks progress towards humility. Adi Shankaracharya calls it being harmonised, the samachitta.

The scope of individual will is to choose between confinement to the individual ego, and to submit to the Cosmic Self. Lord Krishna who embodies the Cosmic Self puts it succinctly in the Bhagavad Gita, “The worshippers of other gods go to them; My devotees come to Me.”

How do we know that the Divine has heard our prayers?
Blog by Dadashreeji

Q- How do we know that the Divine has heard our prayers and we don’t need to pray for the same anymore?

Dadashreeji:

The answer for both these questions is the same. If you pray for one cause how do you know that it has reached the Divine?

Image result for prayer answered quoteYour heart will tell you that. When you offer your prayer completely, there is peace within your heart. All of a sudden you experience completion within yourself. There is no more desire to pray for the same thing afterwards. The moment you experience this within, that there is no struggle for it, know this well that your prayer has reached the Divine. He heard it. So when you know that He heard it you don’t have to repeat it again. The prayer has already gone.

Worship of Trees

Monday, 22th DECMBER 2014

Who created chaos?

A physician, an architect and a politician exchanged words endlessly to prove shoe profession was the oldest. The shrewd politician suggested that each of them should cite proof to establish his claim.

The physician said; “Eve was created out of Adams’s rib. It was a case of surgical operation, Hence my profession is the oldest.”

The architect told. “Before the surgical operation, there was chaos, order was created out of chaos. And that was the task of an architect. Hence, my profession was the oldest. “

The politician quipped; Who created chaos? It was definitely the job of a politician. “

No misery for him

“Everyone remember God during misery, but forgets Him when there is prosperity. If one were to remember God during prosperity, there would be no misery for him”

Worship of Trees

Worship of Nature has been great phenomenon of Hindu religion from ancient times. Among the objects of Nature worshipped trees are the foremost Nature has given the Hindus a umber of trees considered sacred or holy. They are the largest of all living things and one of the oldest on earth.

In foreign countries also, trees are held in high esteem e.g in America, thee is the ‘cow-tree’. Its sap is used as milk. In ancient India, trees gave the rishis peace, beauty, happiness and seclusion. So they liked to stay in forests

Without trees our world would not be fit place for human beings, animals etc, to live in . Many diseases will continued by exist. For the medical profession would not be able to get quinine and strychnine. Our wild life would not find shelter anywhere.

The Hindus worship trees as deities to show their thankfulness to God. In Hindu familles the banyan tree is worshipped due to emotional attachment for it. The bark and juice of the banyan tree are used nature cure.

The large Indian fig tree is worshipped mostly by women. The women pray for eternal martial bliss. i.e. for the long life of their husbands The Hindus consider the fig tree as the emblem of Lord Shiva whose hair is matted just like its tangled roots. The twigs of the tree are uses in sacrificial fires. The milky juice possesses medicinal value.

The peepul tree is worshiped in tow3ns and villagers alike, our old ladies are especially regular in waring the roots of the peepul tree. Some people tie a thread around a peepul tree.

Without performing proper religious ceremonies, trees should not be cut down in villages, quarrels arise if a tree is felled without the consent of the people.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

Karma, Knowledge, and Liberation

Here, for the sake of distinguishing between knowledge and karma (i.e. scriptural rites and duties) we enter into a consideration of the question as to whether the supreme goal (emancipation) results from karmas alone, or from karmas, added by knowledge, or from karmas and knowledge in combination, or from knowledge aided by karmas, or from knowledge alone.

First opponent. As to that, the supreme goal must be the result of Karmas alone , since a man who is versed in the full import of the Vedas is competent for karmas, in accordance with the Smriti. The Vedas, together with their secret , are to the mastered by the twice-born.  And the mastery must be along with the purport of the Upanishads, which consists in the knowledge of the edge performs a sacrifice, The knowing man gets the sacrifice performed, it shown everywhere that a man of knowledge alone has competence for karma And there is the further text, After knowing, follows the practice Some people verily consider that the Vedas. as a whole, are meant for karma. Now, if the supreme goal be unattainable through karma, the Vedas will become useless

Answer, No, for freedom is a permanent entity. That freedom is eternal is surely an admitted fact. It is a matter of common experience that anything that is produced by action is impermanent. Should liberation be a result of action? It will be transitory; and this is undesirable, since it contradicts the logically justifiable Vedic text. ‘As in this world the result acquired through action gets exhausted, in the very same way the result acquired through virtue gets exhausted in the other world.

Aging Gracefully

Monday, 22, September 2014
Aging Gracefully
Ageing is a natural process . Accept this fact and make the best of it at every age and stage.
Here are few tips:
Make use of your time. Put your wisdom, experience and your capabilities to good use. A community always needs volunteers for teaching children, narrating them stories from our classics, the Panchatantra, the Mahabharata or the Ramayana. It is a wonderful way of passing on some wisdom and getting joy. The enjoyment is on both sides.
Develop a hobby , something you enjoy doing, for the sake of doing . writing , painting, paying, gardening or music are some subjects.
Don’t be back seat driver, allow your children to use their judgement and choice, instead of constant interference and advice.
When they need advice an ask for it, then do give it. Only then it is valued accepted.
Be generous in your behaviour, in your actions , in your thoughts. When you forgive someone,  you are doing yourself a service.
Many physical problems stat in the mind. When we hold a grudge, it makes us sick. It harms us more than them.
Don’t be a grumbler . look at what good in a situation, instead of what was wrong. Some of us are always gloomy and spread gloom. Regular exercise. Even if you have not done it before, it is never to lat to start and the benefit starts from day one. A morning walk is most refreshing.
Smile a little more. It adds beauty to your face. Do look god and feel good. Every age has its beauty and charm. There is nothing more beautiful than the sight of a well turned out grandmother or a grandfather. (Courtesy : Better Life)
Reading
For general improvement , a man should read whatever his immediate inclination prompts him to; though if he has a science to learn, he must regularly and resolutely advance . what we red with inclination makes a stronger inclination. If we read without inclination half the mind is employed in fixing the attention so there is but half to be employed on what we read. If a man begins to read in the middle of a book, and feels an inclination to go on, let him not quit to go to the beginning  He may , perhaps not feel again, the inclination.
Nature creates merit, and fortune brings it into play
Method and dispatch govern the world
Quote from the true charm and power of Vedanta
And you become strongest when  you surrender all your strength to that great breeze of Grace that blows all the time. For He alone is; we are only just a spark of that divine fire. We have not to ru after, to pine after, Divine Grace; we have only to become grace-worthy. And that grace-worthiness if what one gets by achieving manliness through a life of self reliance, hard work, and struggle ot develop character strength. This takes us closer and closer to that final spiritual revolution in total self-surrender=praptti or sarnagati
When the mind is dominated by nature’s powers of tamas and rajas, sarangati or self-surrender, if practised, will not be genuine. It is best then to practise purusakara, or self-reliance, accompanied by a general feeling or devotion and dedication to God. But, when the mind rises to the level of sattwa, or even satwa –dominated rajas, it gets the capacity for self-surrender and the appreciation of Divine Grace. It is at this level that bhakti shines at tis purest and best, and human life reaches the level of spontaneity, naturalness and effortlessness. The Srimad Bhagavatam gives a beautiful picture of such a life, in its exposition of the nature of Bhagavatttama, the best among the devotees , by the Navyagindrss
‘He is the best among the devotees of Hari(God) , who sees the Blessed Lord as the Self in all beings (Shiva),and all beings in the Blessed Lord as their Self
