Affirmation For Developing Persistence

1 As day succeeds day I develop a spirit of persistence. I will continue my efforts resolutely in spite of occasional setbacks and disappointments. I join the ranks of the undefeated.
2. I choose to continue all my efforts and enterprises. I know that patience and persistence can achieve the unbelievable. Water wears away stone-so does persistence. I will persevere until I succeed.
3. Today, I recall that many of the great achievements and discoveries of mankind have been due to persistence. I am inspired by the persistence of dedicated people like Edison and Madame Curie.
4. Today I am nearer to my goals than eve before. I will not give up my efforts until I achieve my target. I dedicate myself to finish my commitments.
5. I take pride in being a person who having put his hand to the plough, never looks back. I cultivate ‘stickablity, the spirit which keeps on until the aims have been accomplished and goals reached-
Live Within Today
How a walking trip always seems shorter if we concentrate, not on the total distance to our destination, but just the distance to the next milepost. In the same way, we should concentrate on living within today. Then better tomorrows will certainly follow.
How To Achieve Social Success?
No man is an island. If we find that we are one cut off from others due to reservedness and shyness, it is time to do something to correct it.
Basically man seeks the company of his fellows. Loneliness means a two-fold loss; you lose the delight social contact can give; others in turn lose what you have to other to offer.
Implement the following suggestions;
If mixing with others is a problem for you, it may be you have never valued yourself sufficiently. Probably have underestimated yourself and your achievements. You will feel that you have nothing to offer.
Stop thinking negatively about yourself. Realize that you are worthy to make useful contribution in life.
Appreciate your talents and skills, your quality of mind and temperament. Realize that you have more talents than you think and if you stop underestimating yourself, opportunities will arise to encourage you. Other people also will be glad to accept you and value your talents.
Realize that there is no benefit to allow the unpleasant experiences of childhood to disturb your present life. Leave them behind.
Think positively. It will help you to promote good physical and mental health. With good health you will have more enthusiasm for better living with benefit of cheerfulness and self confidence.
Thinking positively about your friends and well wishers will open your eyes ot their good qualities and merits. This will enable you to relax and maintain happy relationship.
There is a possibility of being preoccupied with a sense of your importance. This may lead to the freezing of pleasant conversation and all joy. Change this attitude.
Watch out for the funny side of an incident and be prepared to share the joy with a family member or a friend.
Laugh as often as possible when you bear a good joke and this will help you to erase your self-consciousness. At least smile when you cannot laugh . It is not possible to be tense when you wear a pleasant smile.
Make others feel good and happy. Take care to make others feel wanted and important.
Be generous and gracious in your conversation. Speak a word of encouragement and offer genuine praise. While making others feel good, you will feel yourself good.
Encourage others to speak about themselves, their achievements. These are sure ways of making others feel good.
Abraham Lincoln said that every person he met was his superior in someway. It holds good to all of us and if we make others know to recognize their superiority in certain things they would be surely delighted. This is because a human heart craves for recognition and praise.
Show your friendliness when you meet new persons. It would be beneficial for you to foster a spirit of good will.
Take initiative in greeting people by shaking hands and in opening conversation.
Always find opportunities to help people in small ways wherever possible.
Remembering names is a good habit in showing friendliness because since a person’s name to him is the sweetest sound.
Dressing well and appropriately for an occasion will make you more acceptable to others.
By implementing these suggestions , you are sure to be at ease during social occasions and friendly meetings . Everyone will naturally look forward to, to meet you
Ideas last after man is gone
Ideas cross mountains, borders and seas. They go anywhere a man can go and last after his gone. Ideas are in destructive because of their very nature. There is no defense on earth against them. –Walter Goldstein.
Friend
A friend is a push when you are stopped, a guide when you are searching, a song when you are glad, a word when you are lonely, and a smile when you are sad.
Quote from True Religion always helps
Thus we see true religion begins to mould a human life from the very conception . it is not theory but a spiritual fact and genetic fact too. Necessarily, absence, of true religion also plays a negative part, which becomes obvious in social maladies like juvenile delinquency. Those who do not want to be the future parents of ruffians, will have to open themselves up to the creative influence of true religion, Children born of truly pious parents in a spiritual home are born with certain awakened mental powers which others born under other situations will not have.

I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. Tolerance

Monday 1–June- 2010
Tolerance Leads To Happiness
Tolerance means magnanimity and patience. Tolerance is a sign of respect and consideration for others. It is virtue.
When someone points out your mistake , don’t lose your temper. Resist the urge to quarrel with the other person. Instead, ask yourself. “Am I wrong? If the other person, perhaps, is right?’
Tolerance makes a person develop wider vision. Don’t allow yourself to be disturbed by small irritations. If your assistant hs not drafted a letter well, don’t throw it on his face; you can just explain how to improve the message. This will enable him to resolve not to repeat the mistake. Learn to accept what is disagreeable . You will then enjoy greater freedom of thought and expression.
There will be occasions when you feel incidents are taking place to try your patience. When you are in such a mood, your neighbor’s courteous enquiries seem disturbance; the laughter of the children at play seems like nerve-shattering sound. It is only when you exercise patience and tolerance in day-to-day happenings, you can enjoy peace of mind and understanding of family members, friends and others in the right way.
Indeed, developing tolerance is not easy but worth trying. Once you have learnt the art of loving and giving you can easily be tolerant.
Be kind towards the weak and poor. Never discriminate people for reasons or religion, case and creed. Learn to rise above narrow loyalties so that you can broaden your outlook.
Why should we learn from?
An ant? To go in queue and save things for the future.
A dog? To be faithful and active forever.
A honeybee? To keep ourselves busy and offer sweetness to all.
A cow? To nourish all like a mother.
A cuckoo? To please others by the sweetness in our voice.
A flower? To make all happy without any distinction.
A tree? To shelter the needy, enemy or friend.
A river? To love and serve all around.
Definite Action
Liberty does not consist, my fellow citizens, in mere declarations of the rights of man. It consists in the translation of those declarations into definite actions.
A Bit of Kindness
When you awake in the morning reach out for the day.
And do with it something worthwhile.
An amazing lot of good can be done.
With a kind word or even a smile.
If someone has strayed, please don’t judge him.
Your wisdom just is not that great.
It is better to know that you did what you could than to find you have waited too late.
Quote from Gita
Suppose a particular man has the desire to become someone great. Initially he may think that being great means being rich and having several subordinates under his control; after much struggle he perhaps does become rich and his intellect also become somewhat refined. Then this gentleman realizes that he can be greater still if he acquires knowledge. If he is ignorant, why would people accept them as a great person? He realizes that in order to get knowledge he must learn to sacrifice a little more. He must keep himself away from partying and other forms of entertainment. In this way, to the extent that he begins to understand the meaning of being “great,” he gradually realizes that no one can become great without learning to give up. In this way we all learn that nothing can be achieve in any field without giving up. The scriptures say that we learn to give up little by little in small matters and ultimately we are able to give up everything and attain immortality.

How to Find Peace of Mind

Monday 19–April- 2010
How to Find Peace of Mind
You have seen those rare individuals who have a quiet feeling of contentment evincing satisfaction with life and a sense of being in harmony with the world. There is no great mystery about it. Peace of mind comes not from being without worries not from having everything one wants, not from being the most popular person. Everyone has worries. they are as mocha a part of life as breathing and sleeping.
Money is not the answer. Some of our wealthiest people are tragically unhappy. Popular , honour, power-none of these automatically bring peace of mind.
Peace can only come from within. All of us have the power within. All of us have the power within us to give ourselves peace of mind, and yet, in our modern world, with its tensions, nervous strains and everlasting rush, it is one of our scarcest commodities.
Peace of mind is a state of happiness in which a person has an inner sense of well-being and peace, with no nagging doubts suspicions and enmities to rise up and upset him. The only place to start developing peace of mind is with yourself.
The reason you do not have peace of mind is lodged somewhere in yourself.
Take worry, for instance. Many people are habitually given to worrying , rarely with good reason. Face up to your worries, sort them out, decide which are yours, and leave the rest. You will be surprised to find how many things you have been worrying about that did not actually concern you.
Confront the worries which are left. If you are concerned about illness , seek treatment if you have a personal or emotional problem, find guidance. Once you have met your problems and made a decision about them, do not let them keep eating you.
Try to make the most of your job. Do not set your goals too high. Take one thing at a time. And remember that too much driving ambition , like a run-away horse, can drag you and harm you. Set your targets within the bounds of your capabilities and be honest.
Many people make themselves their own whipping boys. Give yourself a break. Constant dissatisfaction with oneself takes thee joy out of living. Be your own best friend-it is you that you have to live with most. Try the following simple rules Block that worry! Learn to meet your worries and mastery them. Do not let them master you .
Take it easy. The body is a machine, a delicate and precise one; it cannot operate at top speed all the day. Give yourself plenty of time for the things you have to do. Avoid that hurried feeling of always being five minutes behind schedule. And some time every day, take time to rest. Let your mind and body be idle once in a while. Do not put it off. Postponing, besides being the thief of time, will rob you of peace of mind. You cannot be happy when you keep thinking about little things you intended to do but have not. Either get them done or forget about the. Learn to live with yourself. Be on your own side. This does not mean continually patting yourself with the same respect you would accord a dear friend.
Be honest with yourself, with others and in all things. Eat wisely. A well-balanced diet is essential to good health.
Find some kind of wholesome diversion. Adopt a hobby that you can lose yourself in ; if your interest is in music, set aside a time to play or listen. Be sure not to take too may responsibilities.
Be generous in relation with others. This can involve money , time or little service, and it should be done with no thought of return.
Have faith. There is no peace of mind without faith in something- oneself, one’s work a noble cause . and deep religious faith with belief in its teachings is a well-tried path to peace of mind.
You will not find some of these rules easy to follow at first. Still, if you follow them and substitute them for old habits, you will find that living is more fun with peace of mind.
-(Condensed)-(courtesy: Modern Practical Psychology)
The nature of life is to change.
There are men who are studious and industrious;
For them time is money.
There are men who are civilized and cultured;
For them self-respect is money.
There are men who are courageous and adventurous;
For them self-confidence is money.
There are spiritual aspirations and military soldiers;
For them self-discipline is money.
There are selfish and sensual
For them money alone is money.
Quote from True Religion Always Helps
And if we analyze the real issues of our lives. We shall find that the basic requirements are just these; real growth, advancement, protection from injury, and maintenance, leading to self-fulfillment.
Life is important not only because through living alone we come to realize all its values , life is the most vibrant divine principle that sustains the universe the Lord says in the Gita, ‘Life in all begins am I . reverence for all life is another name for the worship of God. But I must not forget that the divine principle that is in me also deserve my worship. How do I do that? By not desecrating myself. By arising and awaking and not stopping till the goal is reached. But how often we prefer sleeping to arising. Dozing off to awaking. Standing to moving ahead. We disregard time by taking life for granted. We sanctimoniously delude ourselves with the thought that we shall do better when we are better. Here and Now

On Being Beautiful

Monday 15 –May- 2010
On Being Beautiful
I read that Ponce de Le’on once searched for the Fountain of Youth and Beauty in Florida. But you will never find true beauty anywhere in the world as easily as you will find it in your own backyard; or more specifically, inside yourself.
If you are resentful, full of hatred, envy, jealousy, and conceit, chances are you will look ugly to others and to yourself even if you are physically attractive. External beauty is important, and we should try to be physically attractive as long as possible. Still young people must learn to realize that inner beauty is far more important than external beauty, because we get older whether we like it or not, but inner beauty can stay with us even at an advanced age.
What is inner beauty? Sharing your happiness and good fortune with others; accepting yourself for what you are, not trying to be someone else; forgiving others and yourself for errors that happened yesterday; seeing the good in yourself and in others and adjusting yourself to realities; longing for the better ‘you’ inside yourself and inside others and searching everyday for self-respect and the respect of others. These are the qualities that will give you everlasting inner beauty that will make you feel more beautiful and look more beautiful. This is the kind of beauty anyone can achieve at any age.
Today’s Determination
The way you view the day ahead on getting up in the morning has very much to do with your chances of success and happiness. So start right now with the following determinations:
A new day lies before me. I may be happy or miserable but I shall choose the former.
Regardless of the circumstances. I see myself relaxed at all times, to overcome all difficulties.
Today I shall make it a point to be cheerful, looking for the pleasant and beautiful, to be thankful for the countless benefits and comfortable living.
Today I resolve to live it with zeal, and to make it pleasurable for myself and others.
I determine to meet today’s problems as a challenge. I take up my responsibilities with cheerfulness and enthusiasm.
Think and Talk about good things.
When you talk about your troubles, your ailments, your diseases, your hurts, you give longer life to what makes you unhappy. Talking about your grievances merely adds to those grievances. Think and talk only about the good things that add to your enjoyment of your work and life. If you don’t talk about your grievances, you will be delighted to find them disappearing.
The most unhappy of all men is he who believes himself to be so.
We always respect the opinion of others when it helps to affirm ours.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step
Bring all forces of good together –Swami Vivekananda
Be noble in every thought and every deed.
The victories of truth have never been won without risks
Look before you leap , see before you go.

Always Laugh
Always laugh when you can; it is a cheap medicine. Merriment is a philosophy not well understood. It is the sunny side of existence.
The quote from True Religion always Help
These teachings to the entrant into worldly life emphasize the solemn duty of raising a family, caring for one’s welfare and consciousness. These in fact cover the normal urges and duties of a human being for enjoyment and advancement in this world, which, for fulfillment. Must be pursued according to the percepts of true religion.
Now to meet the requirement of life in the world we need to earn money. And in this too, religion is our friend. Even today honesty is the best policy in the world. He who earns his bread policy in the world. He who earns his bread through honest labour may not amass huge wealth, but he will not be dogged by anxiety and feat of exposure. He will have an inner strength which cannot be purchased with money. Those who earn cheap money, unrighteous money, not only constantly face the risk of exposure, but before they realize it, the money itself may have vanished end all further avenues of earning closed to them .
A man with a sense of hounour and dignity knows the at it is the man who makes the money not money the man. And this sense of dignity is more abiding if it springs from religion.
One without such a background thinks that it is money that makes the man and hence will do anything for money. All such will eventually suffer.

Get Rid of The Cobwebs of Your Mind

Monday 22 –February- 2010
Get Rid of The Cobwebs of Your Mind
Cobwebs are suggestive of age and disuse. We often hear people say, ‘get rid of the cobwebs of the mind.’ ‘Cobwebs stand for old fashioned ideas and prejudices that prevent progress. The saying calls one to shed old fashioned and outdated ideas and practices that hamper progress. To do things as they have always been done before is not always the best way of doing them. In the light of later experience, it proves wrong.
Many firms have struggled to carry on the old traditions initiated by the founder. This is in true respect to the principle that’ what was good enough for me”. While doing so they watched the businesses decline. So it requires someone with a more alert and more modern outlook to find a better line of thought. One must have the courage to introduce new ideas. If you ask a retiring person what he thinks of some new invention or changes, he disapproves. It is difficult to persuade a man to change his outlook on life or business, but not impossible. Such a person needs guidance. We must convince him that it is of no use denying the demands of the modern age we live in and work in. as the world progresses we must be able to find our place in the scheme of things, step-by-step.
One must not rest satisfied having achieved a little, but be determined to achieve more. Never mind what may or may not have been done in the past. Keep an open mind and bring a fresh outlook to make sure of progress.
Dusty desks and dusty minds! They both need cleaning and refreshing. No one can work comfortably in a closed room. If you are conscious of cobwebs, get rid of them from your mind. They hold you down, narrow your outlook and prevent you from making the most of life.
Success
When we focus our mind with single-pointed attention on a particular object-when we put all our energies into acquiring it-then without doubt, success is guaranteed and we will attain what we wish to achieve.
Lengthening My Nights
“Lazy fellow”, father said to his playful song, “Why do you sleep so much during the day? Life is short and by sleeping you are making your days shorter”.” Don’t worry dad-I will make up by lengthening my nights.” son replied.
At an infinite rate
Experience is a jewel, and it needs be so, for it is often purchased at an infinite rate.
A Wise Man
A Learner learns by making mistakes. A wise Man learns form the mistakes of others. A Fool never learns from his own mistakes, or from the mistakes of others.
Never too busy to be kind
The happiest are those . I find, Who stop to do the little things; Never too busy to be kind, Rewarded by the joy it brings.
The road to success is full of women pushing their husbands along.
To err is human; to blame is on the other party is politics.
What is your phone Number?
The girl asked her lover, “Darling if we get engaged will you give me a ring?” Sure”, replied he lover, “What is your phone number?’
I hope you will keep yours,
A man received a letter from a kidnapper. The letter said, “If you don’t promise to send us Rs 60,000, we promise you we will kidnap your wife.” The poor man wrote back, “I am afraid I cannot keep my promise but I hope you will keep yours.”
A heart without honest
Four things are empty-a head without brains a wit without judgment, a heart without honesty, and a purse without money.
Quote from The Essence of the Gita
This is what happens to those who have realized the Self through either knowledge or devotion. Even while working, they are able to see themselves as different from one who is working. They are like ripe coconuts; the kernel within has been separated from the shell. Shake the coconut and hear the sound! We, in contrast, are like tender coconuts-the kernel and the shell are closely bound to one another. A blow on the shell affects the kernel too. We become” ripe” through the practice of Karma Yoga. As in a ripe coconut, our “;kernel and shell’ get separated. The Self gets separated from the mind, intellect, ego, sense organs and the body. It then lives blissfully in its own true nature.
Having discarded all external coverings, the Self is able to stand by itself. Not to speak of the waking state , even in sleep the illumined person sees his or her own body as if ti were someone else’s , as if someone else were sleeping. The poet-saint Ramparasad sang in Bengali;
Sleep has left me, no more shall I sleep.
In the state of Yoga, I am awake.
Her mystic sleep ; to Her have I returned
And have put my sleep to sleep!
This is the state in which the illumined ones lives; they can understand perfectly the meaning of this song. The more selfless our work is , the more our I-consciousness gradually shifts away from the body and the senses, and come to rest in the Self. We then experience the state described in the song above.

Cheerful Temper Lightens Sickness

Monday 1st –February- 2010
Cheerful Temper Lightens Sickness
What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. They are but trifles, to be sure, but, scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is great. A cheerful temper joined with innocence will make beauty attractive, knowledge delightful, and wit good natured. It will lighten sickness, poverty, and affliction, convert ignorance into simplicity and render deformity agreeable
More insects then people in the world.
Scientists estimate that in every square mile(2.6 sq km) of land, there are as many insects as there are people in the whole world. (Velayudhan Featured)
We drink mineral water!
The medical officer was testing the water supply to the camp. “What precautions do you take against infection?’ he asked the sergeant in charge.
“Well we boil it first, sir,” the sergeant replied “Good”, “Then we filter it.” “Excellent”.” And then,” said the sergeant, “Just for safety sake, we drink mineral water in the bottle!”
Three Stages In Life
There are three stages in each person’s life. When one was young people said, “He will do something “. As he grew older and did nothings, they said, “He could do something in he found himself”. When he was white-haired, people said of him. “He might have done something if he had tried”.
An idea lives on
A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on ideas have endurance without death. .
Quote From Gita
We have to cultivate a yogi’s calmness in the intoxicating battle of life. We must learn to protect ourselves from the reaction which inevitably follows every work we do. Then alone will we be capable of doing something really great and be fit to be called human beings. It is not necessary to explain how often the intoxication of desire-propelled work leads to painful results. How many people sink to the depths of misery because of loss in trade and commerce and are unable to rise again! There are children who destroy their health in their maddened struggle to pass some test. Time and again we even see students commit suicide when they are not able to pass an examination in spite of their best efforts.
It is essential for all-particularly for those with secular responsibilities-to learn how to bring calmness in the midst of the intoxication of work . For these people the only means of progress in all matters, secular and spiritual, is work and work alone. There is no need to imagine that we shall lose our enthusiasm for work we learn how to work calmly; this is proven by Sri Krishna’s life.
Compare the teachings of the Gita with Sri Krishna’s entire life and you will see not one iota of discrepancy. Although he never works for himself, his enthusiasm for work surpassed the enthusiasm of all others put together. See him while playing in Vrindaban; see him in the royal courts of Mathur and Dwaraks; see him at the time of the Yadus’ destruction; see him on the battlefield of the Kauravas and the Pandavas; everywhere we see in his heart an extraordinary calmness and peace along with tremendous enthusiasm for work.
Life Requires Humility
A great professor who had mastered all the branches of learning decided he needed time to relax. He hired a boatman to take him to a nearby island. As the boatman to take him to a nearby island. As the boatman rowed away from shore, the professor asked him what kind of education he had received.
“My father was a poor man”, the boatman said, ‘and could not afford to send me to school. I can not read or write. I am just a simple boatman.”
“That is a shame!” the professor said jokingly,”Hall your life has been wasted.”
A few minutes later, as they reached the middle of the channel, a storm blew up and threatened to upset the boat.
“Master, you must jump over board,” the boatman said, “and swim for your life.”
“I cannot”, the professor replied, “I never learned how to swim.”
“That is a shame!” the boatman replied, “Your whole life has been wasted. You will surely drown.”

He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha
