Where is The Power?

Monday, 27th October 2014

Where is The Power?
Once, in Heaven there was a discussion among the gods to decide where the miraculous secret power, the power by which man can achieve anything in this world, was to be kept hidden. One of the gods suggested that it could be kept hidden in the depths of the Sea. Another said it could be buried on top of high mountains. The third one thought of a cave in the woods as the right place. At last, the most intelligent among them said. ‘Keep it in the depths of man’s mind He will never suspect that the power is hidden there because right from his childhood, his mind is prone to wandering and he will not look within. Only the intelligent among them will look within, and use the power and become great’ All gods agreed.
So, do you see that the difference between two people lies in their minds? One knows how to tap its power and the other does not. So, the truth expressed here is that in the depths of man’s mind lies hidden the miraculous power, using which one can become great.
All Power is Within
All of you desire success. Your parents wish to see you come out with      FLYING COLOURS through the examinations. You want to secure a rank within the first ten so that your further studies will be ensured. Your heart is set on studying Medicine, Engineering , Law or Physical sciences.
Now , are you confident that you will reach your goal? Do your have faith in your potential? Thinking about this, very often, you doubt, you fear, you feel nervous and diffident. You say ‘I do not feel confident. I don’t know why’
But the simple truth is YOU CAN achieve your goal, if you have faith in yourself, if you analyse and understand the capacity of you mind, you can shake mountains. There is tremendous power laying hidden in your mind unutilised. The way to success is to tap the power.

Quote from the True Charm and power of Vedanta
The Upanishads are thus the perennial spring of strength and creativity, This creativity and strength desire from their vision of man as the Atman, the eternal, infinite dimension of the human personality, their theme is freedom of the human spirit and their message is fearlessness and love and service. They summon men and women everywhere to this mighty adventure of freedom and fearlessness, love and service. They summon men and women everywhere to this mighty adventure of freedom and fearlessness, love and service, and to the realization, by each man or woman, of his or her essential spiritual nature, and the transcendence of the limitations of finitude. They explain every great movement-social , political, or religious –nay the phenomena of life itself, as an expression of the urge to freedom inherent in every organism-the struggle of the infinite caught up in a cell or in a body. In a social
scheme or a political system, in a religious dogma or a philosophical creed, in a texture of relations or the network of relativity itself. Hence their constant summons to man is to wake up and march on; Arise!Awake and stop not till the goal is reached! As conveyed by Swami Vivekanada, adapting the powerful words of the Katha Upanishad. Uttisthata Jagrta Parpay varan nibodhata
In chandoga Upanishad we find a passage which symbolically expresses the idea of spiritual drunkenness’ in whose waters are like nectar, and whosoever tastes thereof is straightway drunk with joy; and beside that lake is a tree which yields the juice of immortality.

Forgiving is Greatness

Forgiving is Greatness
Thomas Carlyle is the author of the book The French Revolution’ Once, John Stuart Mill, the famous Philosopher and writer asked him, ‘Would you kindly lend me the manuscript of your work. “The French Revolution” I would like to go through the first part of your work. Carlyle readily give him the manuscript
After some days Mill knocked at his door one night and entered the hall in a dazed condition, What is it Mill? Asked Carlyle
‘My friend’ stammered the philosopher gasping ‘I am…. I …. Am sorry, your manuscript was swept away by the maid and destroyed except for a few torn pages.
Carlyle was stunned.
Gathering his wits, he slowly said, ‘Why do you keep standing ? Pray sit down, Well, what has happened has happened, So, do not worry.
Mill sat down with a sigh. He talked with his friend for hours, well past midnight thinking that he should console Carlyle. In the end Carlyle came closer to him and said ‘Listen, my friend! Now do not think about it any more. Take it lie this it is like the master asking a pupil who has written a bad essay to rewrite it to perfection. “
So, if such great mistakes can be forgiven, how much more should we be consideredate in forgiving the email mistakes made by our friends?

How to get Sense of Fulfilment From Work.
In one form or the other, we have to perform action/work during our lifetime. In this industrialised society, our main motive for work is to earn money. This motive becomes the driving force for all that we do and in course of time our inner life becomes unrefined, with this total dependency on returns for our work.
There are some people who love work for the own sake. they get pleasure just doing the work. They get a sense of fulfilment form work. To them, returns from work become secondary. A pat on the back, a word of acknowledgement or appreciation may be all they are looking for A mother doing incessant work for her family, for here children has this kind of attitude to work A mother/ father with an inborn sense of duty performs their actions without an eye on returns.
A student who is studying is not paid for his work. There they be at the back of his mind, plans for future prospects, for a future career. But for the time being , he has to be absorbed and devoted? T his studies. He has to study with a sense of duty. With this attitude, he can overcome his likes and dislikes and pore deeply into his studies with total devotion.
But when then will be the motive to transform all our action into karmayoga , the yoga of selfless action, or work done with a sense of duty
Work done with this attitude comes out better . we feel we have more energy for work. Work gives satisfaction; we learn a lot from it Gradually, this attitude helps us to see the larger process of life. Life becomes richer. We see much more behind ordinary, normal things of life, which we had taken for granted. We develop self-esteem . Our self-worth does not come from what returns we get from the work, but from the feeling that we have done the work to the best of our ability . this enrichment of our inner life through work/action is called Karma yoga.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
There are many people, certainly, who mange to loosen the bonds of their own egotism enough to be able to love each other more or less unselfishly throughout their lives. Love, or at any rate the memory of love, Is always present to some degree even in the unhappiest of relation ships. And , as Narada reminds us, all love-no matter how the ego may distort or restrict it –is in essence divine. But the question remains, can a consideration of these states of imperfect human love be of any help to us in understanding the concept of Bahkti Yoga?
The love of God described by Narada is a love in which there can be no jealousy, no struggle of egos, no desire for material advantage or exclusive possession, no dread of desertion; a love which is incapable or unhappiness. Even the pain of temporary alienation from God cannot be called unhappy; for the devotee who feels it knows , simply because he does feel it, that God exsits and that the relationship between them is live and real.
But this concept of a love without unhappiness is just what we, as beginners in the study of Bahkti, can scarcely grasp. That isn’t love at all, we say to ourselves; It’s cold, unnatural inhuman. For we must admit, if we are frank, that we have become so conditioned by the world’s view of love that we actually need to be made jealous, need to suffer craving and anxiety, need to make the hopeless demand for exclusive possession-because, without those familiar pains, we are unable to enjoy the respites from pain which we call happiness in love.
So perhaps there is still some usefulness in the old silly sounding phrase; to be in love with love. Perhaps it can be helpful in giving us our first glimpse of what is meant by Bhakti. Let us stop thinking of love as a relationship between two individual egos and concentrate on the capacity for love which is within  each one of us. It may be very small but it is our own and it cannot fail us. E can all agree that our love, when it is thus regarded without relation to any external object, is bot lovable for itself and completely free from desire or pain. And in this way we can begin to grasp the , the idea that love is God

Goddess of Truth

Monday, 13th October 2014
Goddess of Truth

In the olden days there was a great king named Aparajita. He loved his subjects dearly. All were happy and joyous under his care. The country was prosperous under him
One morning , he went to bathe in a nearby river. There, he saw a beautiful girl who had actually come out of his palace He stopped her and asked ‘Oh Mother, who are you? Where are you going at this hour all alone?
She replied O King I am the goddess of wealth. I don’t stay at one place for long. But I stayed here for a long time, as you are a good man. Now I am leaving the place.
Is it so? If you are not happy here , you may go ‘ said the king.
After some time another girl was passing along  “ O mather! Where are you going? Asked the king. She said. “Your Majesty! I am the goddess of virtue. I follow the goddess of wealth .
As you wish mother, you may go’, said the king.
After some time another , lady came along. ‘Who are you and where are you going? Asked the King . She replied I am the Goddess of Justice. I reside where the Goddess of virtue resides sop I am leaving
‘All right I will not stop you’ said the king.
After sometime, he saw yet another lady ready to leave. The king asked. ‘Mother! Who are you and where are you going? She replied, ‘I am the Goddess of truth . I stay where my sisters are. I am leaving as all my sisters have left.
Hearing this , the king became very sad, He instantly fell at her feet and said ‘Mother Please be gracious . I did not worry when the other three left. But I cannot exist without truth . so kindly do not forsake me.
The goddess of truth was moved by these words of the king and said ‘All right. I am not leaving your kingdom. ‘The king was happy and he said O Compassionate Mother! Glory to thee.
Since truth stayed back. The Goddess of justice returned. She said O King! I stay only where the goddess of truth reside. It is my good fortune Mother! You are welcome! Said the king.
Goddess of virtue returned and pointing to her two sisters said I do not stay without them. So let me also stay back. After a while , the Goddess of wealth too returned. She said without justice, virtue and truth, wealth will be the cause of disaster . so I too have returned.
The happy king prostrated before the goddess and said ‘O mothers! Let the people of my kingdom too realize the greatness of truth and understand that wherever truth is there will be justice virtue and wealth.
Dear students , the value of truth is highlighted in every great man’s life. It becomes evident that, upholding truth in our lives brings not only prosperity but also respect for us I wish you had read the story of Harishchandra who had to undergo tremendous persecution to uphold truth. Ultimately , truth won and all the gods blessed him.
In the modern age, we have heard the name of Sri Ramakrishna, the saint of Dakshineshwar. He had seen the Divine mother face to face, He used to pray to Divine Mother thus. Mother here is They knowledge and there is They ignorance. Take them both and grant me pure devotion. Here is Thy holiness and here is They unholiness. Take them both and grant me pure devotion. Here is thy good and there is they evil. Take them both and give me pure  devotion. Here is they righteousness and there is They unrighteousness. Take them both and give me pure devotion. He could mention all these but he could not say  Mother here is They truth and here is Thy falsehood. Take them both He used to say, I could bring myself to give up everything at Her feet but could not bring myself to give up truth.
That is the greatness of truth, so let us resolve that we shall stick to the great virtue of truth, wherever we are.

Quote from the True Charm and power of Vedanta
It is through borrowed light of the self-effulgent Atman, that mind and intellect are able to perform their respective functions. He who realizes that Real Light of Atman within his heart attains immortality
As the one sun illumines the whole world, so does He who dwells in the body, O Bharata illumine the whole body.
As long as the Divine Spirit dwells in this body so long people honour and respect it. The moment the Divine Being discards this body making it dead no one approaches the inert body. It is taken to the cremation ground.

Brighter side of things

Monday, 6th October 2014
Brighter side of things

Anand and Ranjit were eating black grapes . Anand remarked “Are not they sweet?” “I guess so” replied Ranjit, “but they are full of seeds” They both wandered into a garden and came across the roses . Anand with joy exclaimed “Look at those big, beautiful pink roses ! the smell is just fantastic” Ranjit turned round his head and said “Do not forget that the stem is full of thrones”
It was warm day. So they stopped at a store for a soft drink, After several swallows . Ranjit complained. “My bottle is half empty already”. Anand reacted. “Mine is still half full” Some of us are like the negative thinking Ranjit. We tend to look at life through dark glasses. We find fault with situations and people , not realising that the problem may be within us. We see only the thrones and rarely notice the beautiful flowers . we complain and grumble for little things, forgetting the many things that are good and lovely for which we should be thankful.
Then , there are people like Anand who concentrate on the brighter side and are happy and grateful. They are realistic about the gloomy side of life, but they do not become worried. They look at the rose and admire it not paying attention to the thrones.
Happiness and contentment can surely be our share if we cultivate the habit of looking at the brighter side of things.
Our lives are influenced by colours
From the experiments made experts have discovered how deeply our lives are influenced by colours. It has been found that colours can stimulate or depress give us an appetite or make us ill, affect our thoughts, emotions and health.
Colours in your home, on your clothes and even the car, may be affecting your working time. Your choice of colours can reveal whether you are happy , ambitious , optimistic and charming.
The colours you choose to  decorate your home could mean the difference between domestic chaos and family harmony. Bright outgoing colours should never be used to the bedroom,. It can create emotional conflict leading to angry outbursts and arguments . in advertising and packing colours can make or break product.
On Book.
Book like friends should be few and well chosen.
Good books bring light into darkness and sunshine into shadow
Good book are food for youth.  Delight at old age, ornament or prosperity , refuge and comfort during  adversity, and reliable honest helper and guide in all stage of life
Quote from the True Charm and power of Vedanta
Here the choosing is done by the seeker by means of an earnest longing and struggle. This seeking and struggle on the part of man is essential, according to every spiritual teaching. But it is only to drew the Grace of the Atman, through a self-revelations; as we have seen earlier Sankarachaya emphasis that essential of Divine Grace in commenting on the 1st part of the verses.
If such the nature of the Atman , it is preposterous for the human mind to hold that its realisation is effected through a series of spiritual practices. Therefore , Yama the teacher, says this in the verse of the katha Upanishad.  Whom alone it chooses, by him alone is it attained, to him this Atman reveals . its own (true) form. It is true that initially, the seeker seeks the Atman; but finally, it is the Atman that chooses the seeker , the chooses to reveal itself to the seeker through an act of self revelation.
This Upanishadic statement of the self-realisation of the Atman is spiritually identical with the idea of Divine Grace upheld by religious centred in a personal God. And Vedanta holds further, as reaffirmed in our time by Sri Ramakrishna that ghe God of the bhakta and the God of the jnani, God the personal and God the impersonal, are one and the same Reality . Says Sri Ramakrishna
