The spirit of Krishna
The Speaking Tree | India | ET
BY CHAITANYA CHARAN DAS

Image result for krishna all attractive quotesThe name Krishna means ‘the all-attractive One’. ‘Sarva akarshati iti Krishna’ — this describes the attractive nature of the Lord and so describes the absolute Truth, the supreme personality of Godhead, in full.

The Lord administers the world through the laws of material nature — gross such as the law of gravitation and subtle such as the law of karma. But when predominance of materialism over spirituality disturbs the universal order, the Lord descends “to deliver the pious, annihilate the miscreants and re-establish divine principles”, says the Bhagwad Gita.

Image result for attractive quotesKrishna descends not just to maintain law but to awaken love. The love that our heart longs for through relationships with various persons finds fulfilment only when it is reposed in the Supreme. When we love Krishna, our love is never interrupted, never betrayed, never let down, never disappointed.

On Janmashtami, Krishna entered the material world at midnight. This is significant. Midnight is the time of maximum darkness and from the moment the Lord appeared, the darkness started diminishing. Similarly, our heart is dark being afflicted by multiple anxieties and miseries. But in the darkest hour of our lives, when we turn to Krishna, He appears in our heart, and all the darkness recedes and the light of eternal hope starts streaming in. The Lord appeared in a prison cell and freed His parents of their shackles.

This indicates that all of us who are shackled by our own self-destructive desires can be freed by the Lord who appears in our heart that is obscured in darkness.

Quote from the True charm and Power of Vedanta

The harvest field of life
Whenever we see any one suffering however, our attitude should not be to stand aside and let him reap what he has sown. Knowledge of the law of just compensation should not make us indifferent or lacking in sympathy and charity. true understand never robs us of love or sympathy. It is rather lack of understanding which takes from us many possibilities of doing good to others, which is also the best way to do good to ourselves. In Indian philosophy we are told that whenever we are able to help another, instead of expecting gratitude , we should be grateful; because we have been given an opportunity to elevate yourself. Do we not receive a greater spiritual blessing when we reader service without selfish motive than when we receive service? Does it not always enlarge our heart and vision?

This law of compensation should be universally understood. It is not peculiarly and Eastern doctrine, as many think . it concerns every one, whether he live in the East or the West; whether he is a Christian or a Mohammedan, a Buddhist, or a Hindu . no one can get away form it. Every living being must reap  what he sows. And the greatest way to help people is to introduce this larger idea . Let their mind be filled with it and they will uplift themselves. The only bondage is ignorance, which separates us like a veil from Godhead; and when that veil is torn from our mind, we are free. Life is indeed a harvest field, but is it not a good harvest field for those who are asleep. It promises a fruitful harvest, however, to those who are awake and who constantly ask Gods guidance; because without God’s guidance; because without God’s help and protection we cannot do anything. We must work diligently and prayerfully and always remember that in this universe there is no such thing as chance or unjustice; we must be wakeful in everything we do. It is through wakeful, prayerful efforts that we tear the veil of ignorance. When it drops. His light shines in the innermost part of our being; and only when the Sun of Divine Wisdom sheds its radiance upon us as we labour in the field of life, do we reap a perfect harvest.  Courtesy reincarnation and immortality , The harvest field of life

King, Land and People
The Speaking Tree |India | ET
By K S RAM

Nepal’s experience of a change in the role of the king provides occasion to look back on the original principle of kingship.

Is kingship an unjust privilege? Kingship began as a spiritual office, and not as a worldly privilege. The idea evolved from the time societies began to be formed. The earliest ‘king’ was, of course, the Village Elder.

Initially, material and spiritual well-being were not seen as two rival ends, with choice for an individual to pursue this or that. The two constituted a composite end. The indicator for well-being was fertility.

Spirituality operated at two levels: personal and social. At the personal level, you were responsible for your deeds. At the social level, the king was responsible, because he represented society’s collective spirit.

The fertility of the land depended on the virility of the king. If the king lost his virility, whether due to age or misdeeds, the land would turn infertile. The fertility of the farm, cattle and humans would decline. This again implied not just a material but more so a spiritual disaster. Hence the rule of abdication, or sanyasa. The impotent king must ‘die’.

In tribal Bastar, agriculture to this day is not merely an economic activity but a composite life ritual. At the annual fertility rite, the Maati Ti’aar, seeds and land are sanctified with sacrificial blood before a symbol of the Earth Goddess. The village becomes a ‘kingdom’; the fertility ritual is conducted by the Gaita, the Earth-priest.

Taxes Are Not Burdens

Monday 02/01/2012

Taxes Are Not Burdens.
Taxes Are Not Burdens, they are the price of liberty, the assurance of freedom of religion, the protection of our children, the right to vote, and the gurantee that we may speak from our hearts without fear. David guy powers.

What is Life?
Life is a flower,
The fragrance of which is virtue.
Life is a well,
The water of which is wisdom.
Life is the sun,
The light of which is Divine Love.
Life is the moon,
The rays of which are Bliss.

When our hearts are full of love.

It takes two to make a quarrel. Also it takes two to make up after a quarrel. Without invoking love, this can never be accomplished. Flood your mind with love, look into the eyes of the other and embrace the person with whom you had quarrelled. Words are not necesrary. Both will have their eyes flooded and the joy-tears will wash away all quarrels for the time being. Try this. You will find this true every time. This is the power of love, the stremgth of love.
Faults become thick when love is thin. When love rises to swirl around us, and when we re-view in this clearlight of love, the very faults get transformed into the essential beauty in them. This is the magic touch of love, the miracle played by love. When our hearts are full of love, life is a smilling valley of beauty and joy ,romantic and divine.
You must look ahead!
Thomas Carlyle had completed his manuscript on the French Revolution. He gave it to his neighbour, John Stuart Mill to read. Several days later, mill came to Carlyle's home pale and narvous. His maid had used the manuscript to start a fire!
Carlyle was violently agitated for several days. Two years of labour lost. He could never gather the energy to write again. The thought of having to write the whole thing over was almost revolting.
One day, as Carlyle was walking along the streets, he saw a stone mason building a long, high wall. He stood watching for a long time and he was suddenly impressed with the fact that tge wall was being built one brick at a time! He took insiration from that experience and decided, "I Will just write ome page today, and then one page today, and then one page at a time-that is all I will think about."
He started small and slow. The task was tedious, but he stayed with it and went on to finish the work. The end result was better than the first one!
Do not let bad memories or unfortunate incidents move in and dominate you. You cannot get far, looking in the rear view mirror. You must look ahead!
REFLECT UPON YOUR PRESENT BLESSINGS,OF WHICH EVERY MAN HAS MANY-NOT UPON YOUR PAST MISFORTUNES,OF WHICH ALL MEN HAVE SOME.
Quote from The True Charm and Power of Vedanta
The heart may sink with despair when even the hardest struggle brings no good result. Yet that is the point where we most need to show our strength, because that is the test of life.

Is man the architect of his own future?

Monday 28–June- 2010
Is man the architect of his own future?
“Every man is the architect of his own future”. Each and every person must have come across this statement sometime or other but how many have had the courage and conviction to stand up and firmly state his or her views on this? Everything must have a reason –an answer to the question” why”? But till today, no valid reason has been found for this statement.
The state of education in our country today is one of the proofs for the sweeping generality of this statement. We the children of India, have the right to progress and prosper. How can the country prosper, if the educational system is what it is today? Some of us are being denied education-the basis for all round development-just because we happen to have been born into a casts which had exploited others. Now, can anyone tell me of what use it is, to make us suffer for some grave errors and sins committed by the previous generations? We are being denied our rights as human beings to prosper in life, just because we are in a certain caste. Even if we get high marks in qualifying examinations, others who have lower marks. Get admission into colleges and universities. This is a shame to our country when the basis of it is secularism!
What happen to all our hard work; have all the pains and efforts we have taken at each step of our lives, till now, gone in vain? No human beings rightful progress should be hindered. How can we even think about our future if the present is so bleak and dull? There seems to be no ray of hope.
How can every man be an architect of his own future when the man is placed in such circumstances ? Every man needs some freedom; some place in this world to grow in and shape his future . can we ever shape our future when there are such powerful hands to wield and mould us according to their won whims and fancies? As long as such circumstances prevail , no man can even get the material to plan his future, leave alone building it.
How can we hope to step into the future and try to shape our own lives, when every road we take seems to always lead to dead-end?
Facts about Gita
The Bhagwad Gita (song of the Lord) the holy book of the Hindus. Was composed sometime during 200 B.C.-200 A.D. The Gita which forms part of Bhisma Parwa of the Mahabharata from Chapter 25-42 contains nearly 700 verses, having 18 chapters.
The Gita is written in the form of a dialoged between Arjuna (one of the Pandava borthers) and Lord Krishna. It was composed by Veda Vyasa who has synthesized the essence of all the teachings of the Uppanishads in the Bhagwead Gita. The original written in Sanskrit has been translated in more than 30 languages-national and international; The Gita has been set in the Mahabharata at the time of the Kurukshetra War between the Kauravas and Pandavas.
The Gita is also a classic text of Yoga especially Chapter Six which deals with Bhakti-yoga (Devotion), Jnana-yoga(Knowledge)and Dhyana-yoga (Meditation) and synthesis all the three.(Courtesy Yoga)
How to love God?
To love God is the most practical way is to love our fellow beings. If we feel for others in the same way as we feel for our own dear ones, we love God.
If instead of seeing faults in others, we look within ourselves, we are loving God
If, instead of robbing others to help ourselves, we rob ourselves to help others, we are loving God.
If we suffer in the sufferings of others and feel happy, in the happiness of others we are loving God.
If , instead or worrying over our own misfortunes, we think of our selves as more fortunate than many many others, we are loving God.
If we endure our lot with patience and contentment, accepting it as His will, we are loving God.
If we understand and feel that the greatest act of devotion and worship to God is not to hurt or harm any of His beings, we are loving God.
To love God as He ought to be loved, we must live for God and die for God, knowing that goal of all life is to love God and find Him as our own self.
Opportunity never comes. It’s there if you know how to seize it

Maintain a Cheerful Attitude

Monday 25-January 2010
Maintain a Cheerful Attitude
Most of the people do not know secret of keeping youthful. Of the many suggestions made by doctors a 7 hour sleep stands as the most important. People who complain sleeplessness are sedentary workers. They sit in their office; they sit hours on end before their TV or radio; they take little exercise. Instead of talking up to a friend, they talk to him over the phone. At the end of the day, they are not sufficiently tired to earn their sleep.
People who do sedentary jobs sitting in the workplace, need regular exercise. hobbies which are more than a mere pastime also help in the relaxation of mind and muscles.
People who wished to break monotony and boredom, should do a wide variety of household chore. They should do little of each to break the boredom.
Anger, jealousy, hatred are emotions which disturb sleep. Friendship, cheer, good actions give mental satisfaction and sleep. Anyone can stay young by getting inspiration from persons who have remained creative all their live.
Men and woman have to maintain a cheerful attitude. They are as young as their faith, as old as their doubt, as young as their self-confidence, as old as their fear, as young as their hope, as old as their hopelessness. So long as their heart receives messages of beauty, cheer, and courage from fellow beings and from the supreme power so long as are they young and youthful.
Stay young by continuing to grow with a cheerful attitude. Courtesy Wisdom

Jokes
Host: Come right into the house. Don’t mind the dog.
Visitor; doesn’t he bite?
Host; That’s what I want to find out. I just bought him this morning.

Quote from Gita
In the beginning we ordinary people are attracted by the uplifting manner of the devotees whose love for God has made their lives holy. W long to become like them. This attachment is similar to the attachment one feels for material objects. But the difference is that this attachment takes us toward God because it is directed to a higher ideal. That is why the sage Narada and other teachers have said that desire , greed, anger etc. are to be considered enemies only so long as they are provoked by worldly objects but once their direction is changed, they themselves become aids to God realization.
For the fulfillment of any desire, we would do well to call upon God first, because only He has the power to fulfill all our desires. We may be in the habit of prying to Him with a mind full of desires, but in the process once we fall in love with Him, then we cannot escape any more! Our love with desire gradually change to love without desire. Once this desireless love takes hold of us, there is no fear of a fall. The sage Sandilya characterizes this love in these words;” An intense attachment to God is love-and that si the highest devotion.” The great devotee Prhlada said once.
O Lord, may I think of You with that strong love which the ignorant cherish for the things of the world, and may that love never cease to abide in my heart.’

How to be a Winner?

Monday 28-December 2009
How to be a Winner?
Courage helps us to live in the most effective and sensible way. It helps us to concentrate on today’s tasks and pleasure, forgetting the past, and leaving the future to take care of itself.
Concern for the future is natural. We must make provisions for it. The only way open tours to influence it is by doing today’s activities to the best of our abilities to the best o four abilities. With courage we can turn our backs not the past. The future is not yet here and remains still to be shaped . We can act only in the present. To act consistently on this knowledge calls for courage. We have to preserve in our efforts to live solely within the confines of today’s circumstances.
Courage and perseverance help to build up a strong character . They build up self reliance. They lead to peace of mind, success in our endeavors and an end to obstacles. The quickest way to acquire courage is through help from other people. Friends can give you the inspiration you need, just like reading inspiring books. Two famous books you could start with are; “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” by Dale Carnegie, and “The Power of Positive Thinking’ by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.
Dale Carnegie suggests one method for facing troubles with courage, learnt from an expert in the air-condition business. This man’s advice was to decide first. “What is the worst thing that could happen to me in this present trouble?’ He would then calmly and quietly accept that the worst might happen and prepare himself to face it. Then he would ask. “How can I improve on the worst?’ Ideas would then occur that he could put into effect to help mitigate our avoid the worst.
Once you have mentally prepared yourself to face the worst, you always find the courage to take bold, practical steps to solve the problem.
Dr.Pele draws attention to a similar thought. “The primary fact about an obstacle”, he says , “is don’t be afraid of it”. He goes on to add. “The first thing to do about an obstacle is simple, to stand up to it and not complain about it but forthrightly attack it”. By this positive tackling of problems we will learn to know our abilities and our power to get things done. We will convince ourselves . “ I don’t believe in defeat”.
Determination to succeed is the factor that distinguishes people of great achievement from the rest of mankind. They are not content even with doing their best. They go a step further and try to improve their own records.
The famous American psychologist. Williams James used to say that most people use only about ten per cent of their ability. Ouspenski expressed the same idea when he said . “Most people inhabit a mansion but live only in the basement”.
Avoid self-pity. Be hard on yourself (but not on others). You troubles are no worse than others have to face. They are a lot softer than many other people’s . Regretting about your misfortunes will solve nothing. Only positive action courageously carried out in faith will get you over your problems.
Lincoln’s rules for living.
Do not worry, eat two square meals a day, say your prayers, be courteous to your creditors, keep you digestion good, steer clear of biliousness, exercise, go sloe and go easy. May be there are other things that your special ease requires to make you happy, but, my friend, these I reckon will give you a good lift.
Right thinking
Stop thinking about things you don’t want, and think about the things you want. Stop thinking about war, disaster, poverty, hard times , bad luck, panic, crime, evil, failure , suicide, disease, and death. Think and talk more about peace, plenty, health, life, opportunity, confidence, happiness , progress, power, prosperity, achievement, truth, success and justice. Your thoughts help to make a better world. Substitute cooperation for competition, love for hate, trust for suspicion, peace for war and service for selfishness. Right thinking is the greatest power in the world to establish peace and goodwill among men.
“To live in a goldfish bowl”
The expression “to live in a goldfish bowl” means to be in a situation that lacks privacy.
What the mind can conceive and believe , it can achieve!
Love is to human hearts what the sun is to flowers!
Behaviors is a mirror in which everyone displays his own image.
Quote from Gita
Karma Yoga and Jana Yoga Lead to the Same Goal
Who is fit to work in this way? the person who has controlled his or her mind. What happens when a person goes on working in this manner? The bonds of karma are cut asunder and gradually he or she attains perfect knowledge.
Sri Krishna exemplifies the practice of Karma Yoga in a special way. We see that although his mind and senses did an infinite amount of work, he had not the least desire for the result. Only incarnations like him are the real teachers of the world. Their lfie is meant for the spread of knowledge and for teaching humanity. Study their lives and learn to work like them. Otherwise , if we don’t learn to practice control, if we work with desire for its fruits, the mind will gradually become a salve of the senses, and the senses will destroy us. It wont do to be a slave of the sense. That wont help us in any way; we shall lose track of the goal. We should keep the sense and the mind under control.
Let us have a high before us and keep on working . We will see that a Karma Yogi reaches through work the same state that a Jana Yogi attains thought intense detachment. Both have the same goal, but their paths are different. Although the paths are not identical so long as the two are en route, there is not difference the two once the goal is reached.

How to Make Best Use of Time?

Monday 16 November-2009

How to Make Best Use of Time?
How easy it is to waste time ! Nothing is more frustration or tiring either . we get tired merely from thinking about a difficult job or all the jobs we should do. We waste time by thinking about them instead of taking them. And we get as tired as though we had done a hard day’s work. In order to make the best use of time we have to;
Get on with it; it is so tempting to say to oneself; ‘I will do it in a few minutes”, or ‘I will do that tomorrow”,
Get on with it now!...
Stick at it: of course we have to be sensible about how long we keep on. Short breaks for coffee and a chat can help but not unless we set a definite time limit to them.
The best use of time is achieved by sticking at a job working at a steady pace.
Do the important things first. Get your priorities right and tackle important matters while you are fresh and your energy is at its peak.
If you waste time unnecessarily with unimportant work, you tire yourself out for nothing and end up worrying about all the rest that should have been done first.
Any essential job which you rather dislike should rank high in your priority list. The longer you leave it,, the less inviting it will be. You will keep thinking about it and it will worry you.
An important job well done gives you an emotional lift.
Plan your day, if you plan wisely, you will not overload yourself with an impossible programme. You will train yourself not to be upset it something happens to disarrange your day.
If you are making the best us of time, a minor interruption will not make all that much difference in the long run.
Live and work at a steady rhythm: once you master the art of working steadily : you will certainly make the best us of time.
When we live and work to a steady rhythm we do it within our capacity of achievement and enjoyment. Not too much, no too little but just enough . This is the golden rule for a happy and contented life because it makes the best use of time wisely.
Man’s behavior towards man is the true test of civilization.
Our enemies come nearer the truth in the opinion they from of us than we do in our opinion of ourselves.
Monkey and Mirror
The monkey once chanced to get a mirror. When he looked at his own image, he thought that the monkey is the mirror had a funny face. It grinned. The image, too, grinned. The Monkey thought that the creature in the mirror was mocking . He got wild. This reflection of his own face made him feel that the monkey in the mirror as ferocious. He got terrified and regarded the monkey in the mirror as dangerous. He retreated in fear. He saw the image retreating too. He gave smile. He saw the image too smiling then the Monkey thought of the creature in the mirror as a kind hearted one. He felt happy. He found the creature in the mirror happy too. The Monkey thought that it had to a friend in the mirror and carried it away –
Quote from Gita
Vedanta divides all our karma into five groups; the obligatory (nitya),the forthcoming(agami), the accumulated(sancita), the activated (prarabdha), and the prohibited (pratisiddha), Obligatory karma like ablutions and twilight devotions(sandhya-vandana) should be done daily. One doesn’t get any special result by doing them, but their neglect cause demerit. The scriptures prohibit stealing, killing and other such things-these are called prohibited karma. The accumulated karma is that which we did in our earlier births but have not as yet reaped its results. Some of its is being exhausted in the present life; we experience this karma in the form of healthy or unhealthy body and mind as well as in our life’s various struggles. This is called activated karma. Forthcoming karma is that which is done in this life or that which will be the cause of our nest birth.

I drive joy

There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked.
