How to build up your personal courage?

Monday 6-September- 2010
How to build up your personal courage?
Many people find it difficult to get on with people, to face problems at home and to make friends. They hesitate to accept responsibility because they are afraid they will not be able to perform. They fail at something and it discourages them continuously. They become discouraged and feel inferior. All these are basically a problem of courage.
How does one become a courageous person? Courage is a quality of life that we have to build up. If we want courage sincerely and are prepared to persist, we can gain all the courage we need.
Build up your own self-esteem. You are to be a confident person. Dress as smartly as you can and take the trouble about your appearance. Speak clearly and distinctly.
Begin to fill your mind with positive thoughts. It is easy to fill one’s mind with memories of past failures . Instead recall your past success.
Review regularly the blessings for which you should be thankful –your health, your job, your home, your friends and the beauty of the world.
Stop recollecting a picture of yourself as a defeated person. Instead, think of your victories. Learn to respect yourself, taking pride in your talents. These steps will help to build up the right sort of self-image. After having tackled your mental attitude, the next thing is to learn to understand other people.
Remember that other people are also human beings. The person who seem very important, the people in whose company we seem to lose our confidence are just human beings . the people with whom we come into contact have worries and troubles that we know nothing about . very often their attitude is a cover for lack of courage.
Having begun to build up your own mental attitude, the important step is action.
You must ask yourself ‘What exactly is it that I am afraid of?’ All problems become smaller if you face them. They only seem large when you run away from them.
Having decided on your course of action, you should go ahead and run the risk of making a mistake . courage is the willingness to make a mistake . if you make a mistake you can always learn from it. This is the answer to the problem of fear. Everybody is afraid of something at sometime. The only difference is that courageous people go ahead despite their fear.
You can change your attitudes by changing your physical actions. If it is a job you have to do, go ahead as if it were well within your capacity. If it is a person you are meeting, look him directly in the face and act as though it were a privilege fro him to meet you.
Speak clearly and if you greet people do it with a firm grip. Begin to practice acting boldly and with courage in little things. Act courageously with the very next person you meet speak up and give your point of view in everyday conversation. Insist on getting exactly what you want in a shop and don’t be easily led to buying something else. It is being courageous in little subjects that makes us courageous in big subjects.
Make the following points a daily feature.
Begin the day positively. When you wake up, make an affirmation that reminds you of your worth. Plan you day. If you have work to do, decide in what order it must be done and go steadily ahead. For your leisurelier, plan the activities you wan to take part in. avoid wasting of time.
Select a place at sometimes in the day when you have time to be quiet for few minutes take walk in the garden.
Repeat you affirmation and let you mind dwell upon the wonders of the creation.
Use every opportunity that comes, either in performing work. In meeting people or to act courageously.
You have planned your day which means that you have made yourself the master of the day. You have reminded yourself of your worth. Use every opportunity for putting these ideas into practice.
At the end of the day as you go to rest, make a quick mental review and note the things for which you are thankful and the ways in which life has been good.
If you follow these simple steps, you will find yourself approaching life with a completely new attitude . the courage for which you have waited so long will become a reality.
Quote from Bhagavad-Gita . It is mete, O Hrishikesa (Krishna) that by Your glorification the world gets delighted and attracted (towards You) , the demons , getting frightened, run in all directions, and all the hosts of perfected beings bow down to You.

I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. Delegation Enhance Efficiency

Monday 2–August- 2010
Delegation Enhance Efficiency
“Delegate to lead” is an adage, which, if followed in its true sense, could foster the growth of an employee and the organization. The head of a team must delegate the activities that can lead to his growth as well as that of the organization. So also if an employee wants to move up, he/she must be ready to take on more responsibilities and fulfill them.
In order to delegate, the prime factor required is trust, trust between the head and the subordinates. He must be willing to trust his team members and have confidence in their efficiency. So he must be able to let the right member to handle the right task so that as a head he can find time and energy for some more important tasks. He ahs to have a thorough assessment of the abilities of his team mates, their potential; he should also be able to clarify matters if needed; encourage, creativity; must enquire about the completion of work at justified intervals and seek a report or updates on the assigned tasks. All these managerial skills of the head of a team increase the efficiency of the team, build up the confidence, develop their skills and in turn gets time to focus on more important matters. It is also learning process for the team as well . the end result is skilled people who will be an asset to the organization.
What is Real Culture?
What distinguishes a human being from billions of other creatures that shares the Earth with him is not ability to think or reason, but the opportunity God has given him to close the gap between himself and Him through evolution.
The first step he has to take in that direction is to imbibe culture. A formidable quantity of literature exists in every language spoken on Earth which describes what culture is. Culture is what we need to acquire as we grow up and mature from infancy to childhood to teenage to youth to middle age to old age, through observation , acceptance, and absorption through discipline.
That is why during ‘Brhamacharya Asharama’ the period of learning , the ‘brhamachari’ is ordained to live a simple life, his wants reduced to bare essentials, his entire focus remaining on education. His mind thus focused on learning alone, remains undisturbed and he lives a life of purity in the sanctified precincts of the ‘ashrama’ of his Guru , and his mind blossoms in its ambience.
It is only when the teacher is entirely satisfied that his pupil has gained sufficient , and is capable and wise enough , is he given permission to return to the society to be a productive and contributing member . It is only at this stage he is qualified to marry. From this stage onwards he continues his pilgrimage of life with his wife, described as ‘dharma patni’ one who follows the path of ‘dharma’ along with him.
When he acquires a wife, it does not mean that someone comes to live with him who would serve him, meet his needs and bear his children. The sacred Mantras he ahs to chant during marriage rituals are profound in meaning. They are in effect, a sacred oath, taken with Agni the God of Fire, as witness.
During the ‘samskara’ of Vivaha’ he seeks from his bride companionships, a mate, one who would share his joys and sorrows , someone who would always stand by him, encourage him, and be a source of comfort and solace. She would be of equal status, indeed, one entity in two bodies . In return, he promises to give her everything, as much as he seeks from her or more, treat her as a friend and a companion, one who is his equal.
To me , it is this promise which embodies real culture. Only those who treat their spouse as their equals and as companions and truly cover them with warmth, affection, love and adoration, throughout their life together, can be called persons of real culture. Only when such a bond exists between a husband and wife, can culture radiate.
A person may be a great scholar, . He might be a wealthy person. He might also be a very powerful person. He could be any of these and more. However , if that person doesn’t live up to the sacred oath he takes, when he takes the had of a damsel in his own and asks her to be his wife, he is yet to acquire what true culture is.
Unity of Indian Culture
There are three outstanding features of India’s cultural and social life. First its fundamental unity in the midst of the baffling diversity, second, its capacity to absorb and adjust; and third , its power to survive and consequent continuity. This is composite culture in the sense that although in the sense that, although in the ultimate analysis it is Indian in origin, it has not hesitate to absorb whatever came in its way from other lands and other peoples in its long and chequered carrier. Thus in the languages, religions, life customs and traditions of the people, there ahs been a continuous flow and intake from outside, . Whatever has some in its way has been absorbed and assimilated and ahs become part and parcel of its own inheritance. If one dares peep into the future, one can say that the horoscope of this exquisite and composite culture is not yet exhausted, and it may, in the future as in the pat, furnish in its won humble way, the technique and practical experience of binding in unbreakable but soft and silent cords of active love and tolerance.(Courtesy ;Better Life)

Tips to Imporve Your Personality

Monday 12–July- 2010
Tips To Improve Your Personality
There are a number of ways for improving your personality.
Laugh as much as you can Laughter is a positive, natural condition which helps to improve respiration, lower blood pressure and tone up the heart.
If you feel sad, cry. Research has shown that tears not only provide stress relief but also helps the body get rid of harmful chemical substances. If you suppress your natural instinct to cry, you are increasing your chances of facing a stress-related disorder.
Anger is a killer. Disease like high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease are all results of uncontrolled anger. Find a positive way such a physical exercise or talking about your problem to release it.
Lack of self-confidence can be very destructive , so build it up. You can do this by imagining that you are creating an advertisement for yourself, writing down all your good qualities. You will be surprised to find how many good qualities you have.
Smile as often as you can. If someone sees you smiling, he will smile back. He would also like your company.
Learn to be courageous. In hospitals, the patients who live longest are the ones who bear their condition with courage. The same is true in life also.
Boredom is one of the biggest killers. Be prepared to take risk and chance to add excitement to your life. If you don’t take risk, you will never know what you can achieve.
Put purpose into life. By adding ambition. Hope and purpose, you will give yourself new powers to fight stress and strain associated with frustration. boredom and pressure.
Get into the habit of following your instincts. Practice first with minor decisions-what to eat and wear. You will be surprised to know the power of you subconscious mind.
-(Condensed)-(Courtesy: Hypnotique)
If you give something to one in need , let cheerfulness on your face precede the gift, and speak to him words of comfort. if you do this, your friendly look will be dearer to his mind even than a gift that is more than he needs.
Secret of Good Memory
The secret of a good memory is attention , and attention to a subject depends upon our interest in it. We rarely forget that which has made a deep impression on our minds. Tryon Edwards
Truth Must Not Only Inform But Inspire
A lamp can never light another lamp unless it continues to burn its own flame. The teacher who has come to the end of his subject, who has no living contact with his knowledge but merely repeats his lessons to his students, can only load their minds; he cannot quicken them. Truth not only must inform but inspire. It the inspiration dies out, and the information only accumulates , then truth loses its worth. The greater part of our learning in the schools has been wasted because, for most of our teachers their subjects are like dead specimens of once living things, with which they have learned acquaintance, but no communication of life and love –Rabindranath Tagore
Quote from True Religion always Help
Some people appear to think that if they become religious, they would lose all the fun of life. Of course, they have a very funny idea of fun itself, and one might say they have only a vague idea of life too.
That fun alone is real fun which does not make us eventually suffer. At the time of having the so-called fun, we have, no doubt, bodily or sensual pleasure. But that pleasure is deceitful for it hastens the suffering that is inevitable; there fruit of all such fun. These pains and sufferings reach a climax at old age, we are then feeble in body and week in mind, and then death stares us in the face. If we can go out of this life smiling, without regret or remorse, and take the parting in its stride, then alone can we be said to have had real fun in life. But when the laughter and nectar of today turn into the tear and gall of tomorrow. When in passing out of this life we course or weep while other are either indifferent or even have a sigh of relief, then we have had no fun at all. We have only beneath fools of fun.
To those who indulge in that sort of fun, life s only skin deep. And indeed, how deep is the skin?
Those people who think that by becoming religious they will lose the fun of life, have no clear idea about true religion true fun, or true life.
Overcome evil with good, falsehood with truth and hatred with love.

To be kept a secret
Meena (agrily):”What do you mean by telling everyone in class that I am an idiot?”
Pradeep; “ I am sorry, I didn’t know it was meant to be kept a secret”.
Four Steps To Excellence
Plan Purposefully
Prepare Prayerfully
Proceed Positively
Pursue Persistently .

Live Within Today
How a walking trip always seems shorter if we concentrate, not on the total distance to our destination, but just the distance to the next milepost. In the same way, we should concentrate on living within today. Then better tomorrows will certainly follow.
How To Achieve Social Success?
No man is an island. If we find that we are one cut off from others due to reservedness and shyness, it is time to do something to correct it.
Basically man seeks the company of his fellows. Loneliness means a two-fold loss; you lose the delight social contact can give; others in turn lose what you have to other to offer.
Implement the following suggestions;
If mixing with others is a problem for you, it may be you have never valued yourself sufficiently. Probably have underestimated yourself and your achievements. You will feel that you have nothing to offer.
Stop thinking negatively about yourself. Realize that you are worthy to make useful contribution in life.
Appreciate your talents and skills, your quality of mind and temperament. Realize that you have more talents than you think and if you stop underestimating yourself, opportunities will arise to encourage you. Other people also will be glad to accept you and value your talents.
Realize that there is no benefit to allow the unpleasant experiences of childhood to disturb your present life. Leave them behind.
Think positively. It will help you to promote good physical and mental health. With good health you will have more enthusiasm for better living with benefit of cheerfulness and self confidence.
Thinking positively about your friends and well wishers will open your eyes ot their good qualities and merits. This will enable you to relax and maintain happy relationship.
There is a possibility of being preoccupied with a sense of your importance. This may lead to the freezing of pleasant conversation and all joy. Change this attitude.
Watch out for the funny side of an incident and be prepared to share the joy with a family member or a friend.
Laugh as often as possible when you bear a good joke and this will help you to erase your self-consciousness. At least smile when you cannot laugh . It is not possible to be tense when you wear a pleasant smile.
Make others feel good and happy. Take care to make others feel wanted and important.
Be generous and gracious in your conversation. Speak a word of encouragement and offer genuine praise. While making others feel good, you will feel yourself good.
Encourage others to speak about themselves, their achievements. These are sure ways of making others feel good.
Abraham Lincoln said that every person he met was his superior in someway. It holds good to all of us and if we make others know to recognize their superiority in certain things they would be surely delighted. This is because a human heart craves for recognition and praise.
Show your friendliness when you meet new persons. It would be beneficial for you to foster a spirit of good will.
Take initiative in greeting people by shaking hands and in opening conversation.
Always find opportunities to help people in small ways wherever possible.
Remembering names is a good habit in showing friendliness because since a person’s name to him is the sweetest sound.
Dressing well and appropriately for an occasion will make you more acceptable to others.
By implementing these suggestions , you are sure to be at ease during social occasions and friendly meetings . Everyone will naturally look forward to, to meet you
Ideas last after man is gone
Ideas cross mountains, borders and seas. They go anywhere a man can go and last after his gone. Ideas are in destructive because of their very nature. There is no defense on earth against them. –Walter Goldstein.
Friend
A friend is a push when you are stopped, a guide when you are searching, a song when you are glad, a word when you are lonely, and a smile when you are sad.
Quote from True Religion always helps
Thus we see true religion begins to mould a human life from the very conception . it is not theory but a spiritual fact and genetic fact too. Necessarily, absence, of true religion also plays a negative part, which becomes obvious in social maladies like juvenile delinquency. Those who do not want to be the future parents of ruffians, will have to open themselves up to the creative influence of true religion, Children born of truly pious parents in a spiritual home are born with certain awakened mental powers which others born under other situations will not have.

What I Learnt From Life

Monday 22–May- 2010
What I Learnt From Life
Oscar Wilde, master of sparkling prose and ever lasting witty poems once said that Experience is the name we give to our mistakes. The man who boasts of having the richest experience might be the one who has made the largest number of mistakes.
There are times when a small crisis appears terrible but then by the same time next day, it has lost its dimension and a little later, it has faded into memory. How much would it help us to take life’s problems with equanimity, if only we could remember the words of and old song “What would it matter, a ten years from now?’
I have learnt that human life is a difficult riddle to solve. Good people suffer, the evil ones thrive. A long time ago, in Israel, and old man sat writing a book into which he poured out al his wisdom. In lines of memorable prose he wrote: “The race is to the swift, nor the battle to the strong”.
What does this mean? As I understand it, it means that things happen to each one of us, which have no relationship to our birth or intelligence or any other qualities. So we see the not infrequent instances of very bright young men under employed or sometimes unemployed, the not-so-bright ones in positions of power and prestige. I have therefore learnt that in the interests of our own health we should not compare ourselves with those who are better off than us but count our own blessings and be grateful to God.
Think of this famous Arabian proverb which can restore sanity to the troubled world. “I had no shoes and I murmured until I met a man who had no feet.”
Speak To Everyone Kindly Lovingly, Gently
Confucius, the great Chinese philosopher was in deathbed. His near and dear ones surrounded his bed. Weakly, he whispered. “Can you see what is in my mouth?’
The old philosopher has lost al his teeth. So they replied, “We only seethe tongue”.
After a while , Confucius asked them “What is in your mouth?”
“We have both our tongues and teeth”, they answered.
The wise old man then told them, “When man is born, he is born only with a tongue. The teeth come in gradually. They are harder and stronger than the tongue! But as man grows older, his hard, strong teeth drop off gradually. Only the tongue, soft and gentle , lasts till the end”.
The dying philosopher paused for breath and told. This is my last message to you, my dear ones that which is gentle lasts. Therefore, always speak to everyone kindly, lovingly, gently!”

Irritable Bowel Syndrome? IBS?
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is the most common chronic health disorder in America, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, affecting more people than asthma, diabetes, and depression combined. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a physical - not psychological - disorder that affects mainly the bowel, which is also called the large intestine. The bowel is the part of the digestive system that makes and stores stool. IBS is characterized by its symptoms: lower abdominal pain or discomfort, diarrhea, constipation (or alternating diarrhea/constipation), gas, bloating, and nausea. There is no cure for Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but there are many very effective ways of controlling and even eliminating IBS symptoms.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is not a disease. It's a functional disorder, which means that the bowel simply does not work as it should. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is characterized as a brain-gut dysfunction.

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome - What Are IBS Symptoms?
It's important to verify that your symptoms match those of IBS before you accept this diagnosis. As noted, Irritable Bowel Syndrome is characterized by its symptoms: continuous or recurrent lower abdominal pain or cramping (from mild to excruciating) in association with altered bowel motility (diarrhea, constipation, or both). Attacks may strike suddenly at any time of day or night, and may occasionally - though not typically - wake you from a sound sleep. Gas and bloating are common, but vomiting isn't, though it can occur due to nausea from the pain. Upper GI symptoms are not a typical part of the syndrome. For women, attacks are often associated with menstruation. Passing blood, running a fever, swollen extremities, and joint pain are not symptoms of IBS, and point to other disorders. IBS is diagnosed in part by the use of the official diagnostic criteria known as the Rome Guidelines.

What Symptoms and Diseases Need to Be Ruled Out For an IBS Diagnosis?
In essence, the diagnosis of IBS is a process of exclusion. There is no medical test available that will be positive for IBS; instead, your doctor will test you for all other illnesses that can mimic IBS symptoms, and if those tests are negative, and if your symptoms fit the Rome Guidelines for Diagnosis, you'll then be diagnosed with IBS. In particular, it's important that the following diseases are excluded before you accept a diagnosis of IBS:
Quote from True Religion Always Help
We are aware that in some countries , by some governments, experiments are being made on purely materialistic and atheistic lines to bring about ‘progress’. The first thing to remember about these experiments is that these are experiments . the time is not yet ripe to assess their full effectiveness in regard to all-round human progress. The second thing about these experiments is though officially religion is eschewed in governmental endeavors, no power on earth can take away religion-which is a matter of heart and soul-from the common man. In other words, purely materialistic or atheistic endeavors for progress do not result in progress at all, and if they do it will be found that at some level of national life, overtly or covertly, religion or the essential inspiration of religion, get mixed into the stream. Therefore-even if a government may not encourage the pursuit of, or even so much as acknowledge the existence of religion-to the reckoning of the total effect of national endeavor, factually one cannot leave out of consideration the contributory effect or religion.
Some others feel religion is not practical they want religion to prove its credentials by successfully implementing their projects. They ask, what good is religion if it does not help them in their business? At a certain stage of development some persons do not know how to put any more intelligent questions. This question, however, need not be sneered at. And to us another question arises; what exactly is our business when we take the whole of life at all levels into consideration?

On Being Beautiful

Monday 15 –May- 2010
On Being Beautiful
I read that Ponce de Le’on once searched for the Fountain of Youth and Beauty in Florida. But you will never find true beauty anywhere in the world as easily as you will find it in your own backyard; or more specifically, inside yourself.
If you are resentful, full of hatred, envy, jealousy, and conceit, chances are you will look ugly to others and to yourself even if you are physically attractive. External beauty is important, and we should try to be physically attractive as long as possible. Still young people must learn to realize that inner beauty is far more important than external beauty, because we get older whether we like it or not, but inner beauty can stay with us even at an advanced age.
What is inner beauty? Sharing your happiness and good fortune with others; accepting yourself for what you are, not trying to be someone else; forgiving others and yourself for errors that happened yesterday; seeing the good in yourself and in others and adjusting yourself to realities; longing for the better ‘you’ inside yourself and inside others and searching everyday for self-respect and the respect of others. These are the qualities that will give you everlasting inner beauty that will make you feel more beautiful and look more beautiful. This is the kind of beauty anyone can achieve at any age.
Today’s Determination
The way you view the day ahead on getting up in the morning has very much to do with your chances of success and happiness. So start right now with the following determinations:
A new day lies before me. I may be happy or miserable but I shall choose the former.
Regardless of the circumstances. I see myself relaxed at all times, to overcome all difficulties.
Today I shall make it a point to be cheerful, looking for the pleasant and beautiful, to be thankful for the countless benefits and comfortable living.
Today I resolve to live it with zeal, and to make it pleasurable for myself and others.
I determine to meet today’s problems as a challenge. I take up my responsibilities with cheerfulness and enthusiasm.
Think and Talk about good things.
When you talk about your troubles, your ailments, your diseases, your hurts, you give longer life to what makes you unhappy. Talking about your grievances merely adds to those grievances. Think and talk only about the good things that add to your enjoyment of your work and life. If you don’t talk about your grievances, you will be delighted to find them disappearing.
The most unhappy of all men is he who believes himself to be so.
We always respect the opinion of others when it helps to affirm ours.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step
Bring all forces of good together –Swami Vivekananda
Be noble in every thought and every deed.
The victories of truth have never been won without risks
Look before you leap , see before you go.

Always Laugh
Always laugh when you can; it is a cheap medicine. Merriment is a philosophy not well understood. It is the sunny side of existence.
The quote from True Religion always Help
These teachings to the entrant into worldly life emphasize the solemn duty of raising a family, caring for one’s welfare and consciousness. These in fact cover the normal urges and duties of a human being for enjoyment and advancement in this world, which, for fulfillment. Must be pursued according to the percepts of true religion.
Now to meet the requirement of life in the world we need to earn money. And in this too, religion is our friend. Even today honesty is the best policy in the world. He who earns his bread policy in the world. He who earns his bread through honest labour may not amass huge wealth, but he will not be dogged by anxiety and feat of exposure. He will have an inner strength which cannot be purchased with money. Those who earn cheap money, unrighteous money, not only constantly face the risk of exposure, but before they realize it, the money itself may have vanished end all further avenues of earning closed to them .
A man with a sense of hounour and dignity knows the at it is the man who makes the money not money the man. And this sense of dignity is more abiding if it springs from religion.
One without such a background thinks that it is money that makes the man and hence will do anything for money. All such will eventually suffer.

He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha

Enrich your Life

Monday 4-January 2010
Enrich your Life
Once an individual determines that he wants a new way of life, then he has turned the key to unlock the secret door to success. Here are ten vital points for brining about a radical change in one’s life and for enriching oneself with ethical and spiritual values:
1. Develop a keen desire to become better mentally and physically. Sustain and intensify your desire by concentrated effort. The will to change must be sustained day by day.
2. Review your life. See the errors of the past, and learn lessons from them. Then put the past behind. There is no need for constantly looking back and feeling sorry over what is gone.
3. Determine what is your ideal. What kind of personality do you want to become? Ideally you should seek for perfection and purity. However, this cannot be accomplished overnight.
4. A power of observation and a keen sense of objectivity these are the ingredients for avoiding the offensive qualities that are playing humanity today. Wage war against the petty qualities of all-consuming jealousy, greed for money, the gossiping habit, and intense hatred.
5. Bitterness is one of the greatest obstacles to becoming better in body, mind and spirit. In a secret manner it spreads into every part of one’s personality. Bitterness develops when one’s cherished desires are prevented. It is enhanced by the recollection of sorrowful events of the past. A bitter memory must be checked by asserting; “What was before is gone and cannot be redone. But I am the architect of my destiny. Let me handle the present situation, and build a golden future”.
6. In order to make a sweeping change in your life you should entertain a new current of thought. Let a new philosophical outlook emerge out of the ashes from the ruins of the past. Allow the sweet breeze of spring to blow across your mind.
7. Read aloud any inspiring passage from your favorite scripture for few minutes every day. Listen to your voice. As the days pass by you will find more and more comfort and strength from these readings.
8. Write on your mirror each morning the virtue you will try to highlight for the day. If it is selflessness, try to observer your mind during the day. Set apart of least and hour for rendering selfless service to others. Next day write another virtue on the mirror. Thus each day will be challenge for you. Gradually you will develop a keen and alert intellect an intellect that is sensitive to the feelings and difficulties of others. Be aware of your deeper Self. You will discover unexpected happiness from within yourself. Your ego will reduce automatically.
9. Prayer never goes in vain. Rather, every prayer creates a subtle potency. It draws to you the positive elements that are needed for the unfoldment of your spirit . you begin to enjoy a new kind of happiness, and an unusual peace. Prayer leads you on to the amazing heights of spiritual glory.
10. Lastly, but not lesser in importance , is the fact that everyone should have a spiritual guide-a guru. If this is not possible, one should be guided by the spiritual literature written the cave of your heart, there abides God. Whose is guiding you constantly towards the realms of calmness , peace, beyond human expectations, and bliss that is boundless.
Nothing can be achieved without discipline and simplicity. Be persistanent in your effort. You are bound to realize your goal.
May God grant you the strength for constant self-effort leading you to the Spring of Eternal Life! –Courtesy ; “ International Yoga Guide.”

If your purpose is right and you are persistent even God will come to your help
For today, if you keep God by your side, there is nothing that will come into your life , that you won’t be able to handle.
Spent your time in pushing yourself up, not in pulling others down.
Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don’t .
We must be convinced that rights are deserved only by the discharge of obligation.
A good kick to the bucket
“Why do you come with an empty bucket? You should have got milk from the cow”, the farmer asked his servant. “Of course, she gave four liters of mild and a good kick to the bucket”.
One our of every ten
Visistor; How many people work here?
Employer ; Oh, one out of every ten.
Quote from Gita- Karma Yoga is simply the “art of doing worked.’ Work can be done with such skill that we don’t get entangled in it. We can then work independently with our own will. What do we need to do in order to work like that? We must not keep an eye on our own gain. Wherever there is self-interest, there is desire for results and that leads to attachment. We must work but we must also take to attachment. We must work but we must also take care to see that we are not “being worked.” In any case, we have to work. We have to take care of our parents. If we are married we have to maintain the family. We have a duty to the society in which we live, to the nation into which we are born and to entire humanity in general . the scriptures say that we are born in this world with three debts; a debt to the god(deva-rna), debt to the teachers(rsi-rna) and debt to our ancestors (pitra-raa).
Work is unavoidable. But we should, as Sri Ramkrishna said, work like a maid in the house of a rich person. She does all the work there. She also baby-sits the children; she is happy in their joy and in their suffering But in her heart of heart she knows that she doesn’t belong to them and the family may discontinue her service at any time they wish . we too must live in the world in the same way.

How to be a Winner?

Monday 28-December 2009
How to be a Winner?
Courage helps us to live in the most effective and sensible way. It helps us to concentrate on today’s tasks and pleasure, forgetting the past, and leaving the future to take care of itself.
Concern for the future is natural. We must make provisions for it. The only way open tours to influence it is by doing today’s activities to the best of our abilities to the best o four abilities. With courage we can turn our backs not the past. The future is not yet here and remains still to be shaped . We can act only in the present. To act consistently on this knowledge calls for courage. We have to preserve in our efforts to live solely within the confines of today’s circumstances.
Courage and perseverance help to build up a strong character . They build up self reliance. They lead to peace of mind, success in our endeavors and an end to obstacles. The quickest way to acquire courage is through help from other people. Friends can give you the inspiration you need, just like reading inspiring books. Two famous books you could start with are; “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” by Dale Carnegie, and “The Power of Positive Thinking’ by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.
Dale Carnegie suggests one method for facing troubles with courage, learnt from an expert in the air-condition business. This man’s advice was to decide first. “What is the worst thing that could happen to me in this present trouble?’ He would then calmly and quietly accept that the worst might happen and prepare himself to face it. Then he would ask. “How can I improve on the worst?’ Ideas would then occur that he could put into effect to help mitigate our avoid the worst.
Once you have mentally prepared yourself to face the worst, you always find the courage to take bold, practical steps to solve the problem.
Dr.Pele draws attention to a similar thought. “The primary fact about an obstacle”, he says , “is don’t be afraid of it”. He goes on to add. “The first thing to do about an obstacle is simple, to stand up to it and not complain about it but forthrightly attack it”. By this positive tackling of problems we will learn to know our abilities and our power to get things done. We will convince ourselves . “ I don’t believe in defeat”.
Determination to succeed is the factor that distinguishes people of great achievement from the rest of mankind. They are not content even with doing their best. They go a step further and try to improve their own records.
The famous American psychologist. Williams James used to say that most people use only about ten per cent of their ability. Ouspenski expressed the same idea when he said . “Most people inhabit a mansion but live only in the basement”.
Avoid self-pity. Be hard on yourself (but not on others). You troubles are no worse than others have to face. They are a lot softer than many other people’s . Regretting about your misfortunes will solve nothing. Only positive action courageously carried out in faith will get you over your problems.
Lincoln’s rules for living.
Do not worry, eat two square meals a day, say your prayers, be courteous to your creditors, keep you digestion good, steer clear of biliousness, exercise, go sloe and go easy. May be there are other things that your special ease requires to make you happy, but, my friend, these I reckon will give you a good lift.
Right thinking
Stop thinking about things you don’t want, and think about the things you want. Stop thinking about war, disaster, poverty, hard times , bad luck, panic, crime, evil, failure , suicide, disease, and death. Think and talk more about peace, plenty, health, life, opportunity, confidence, happiness , progress, power, prosperity, achievement, truth, success and justice. Your thoughts help to make a better world. Substitute cooperation for competition, love for hate, trust for suspicion, peace for war and service for selfishness. Right thinking is the greatest power in the world to establish peace and goodwill among men.
“To live in a goldfish bowl”
The expression “to live in a goldfish bowl” means to be in a situation that lacks privacy.
What the mind can conceive and believe , it can achieve!
Love is to human hearts what the sun is to flowers!
Behaviors is a mirror in which everyone displays his own image.
Quote from Gita
Karma Yoga and Jana Yoga Lead to the Same Goal
Who is fit to work in this way? the person who has controlled his or her mind. What happens when a person goes on working in this manner? The bonds of karma are cut asunder and gradually he or she attains perfect knowledge.
Sri Krishna exemplifies the practice of Karma Yoga in a special way. We see that although his mind and senses did an infinite amount of work, he had not the least desire for the result. Only incarnations like him are the real teachers of the world. Their lfie is meant for the spread of knowledge and for teaching humanity. Study their lives and learn to work like them. Otherwise , if we don’t learn to practice control, if we work with desire for its fruits, the mind will gradually become a salve of the senses, and the senses will destroy us. It wont do to be a slave of the sense. That wont help us in any way; we shall lose track of the goal. We should keep the sense and the mind under control.
Let us have a high before us and keep on working . We will see that a Karma Yogi reaches through work the same state that a Jana Yogi attains thought intense detachment. Both have the same goal, but their paths are different. Although the paths are not identical so long as the two are en route, there is not difference the two once the goal is reached.

Do's and Don'ts

Monday 30 –November -2009
Don’t
To get a better position, you need a better disposition.
Don’t get into the habit of arriving late at work every morning. If you can arrive consistently late, it is just as easy to arrive on time.
Don’t continually ask your employer for permission to come late.
Don’t be clock-watcher. If overtime work is occasionally unavoidable, do it a willing heart.
Don’t try to pass the blame on to others when you make mistakes.
Don’t show bitterness. If you are blamed for making a mistakes.
Don’t gossip about the other people in your office.
Don’t make unnecessary complaints. If you have a genuine complaint, make sure you put it to the right person.
Don’t give confidential, information to other members of the staff or worse to outsiders.
Don’t make a large number of telephone calls during the working hours and if your friend rings up, don’t waste hours of your employer’s time chatting to him.
Don’t pick up and read letter, accounts or anything of a private nature lying on a colleague’s desk.
Don’t be a salve to your superior or arrogant towards inferiors. Maintain your dignity and self-respect and exhibit a regard for the feelings of others people. – (Courtesy: “Inspirational Quote”)
Value of A Smile
Be generous with your smiles. The good that they can do for yourself and for others is far reaching.
Smiling at a person who is troubled or who feels lonely or friendless can be worth a great deal more to him than you can realize. It will less alone in the world and it will give him new strength to work towards over coming his problems .
You may feel that you do not know just the right things to say to express your feelings to one who is troubled and needs your friendship. Often a smile that implies, “ I understand , I want to help you if I can; I am here if you need me, I am your friend, “ is of more value than any words.
Some persons fail to return a friendly smile. Make it a point to smile at everyone you meet and to accompany the smile with a pleasant , cheerful greeting . Soon everyone around you will smiling and you will be surrounded by good cheer and friendliness.
Smile, whether you feel like smiling or not and you will be surprise at how soon you will be feeling better.
Among other wonderful things that it can accomplish, a smile can win a new friend , help to heal a wound, influence a prospective employer in considering and application, clear away anger, lighten cares and improve a bad mood.
Smiles are priceless thing and yet they cost nothing. Spread them freely and receive the price less rewards that are sure to follow wherever you go. –“East and West Series.”
We would rather praise and man than follow his teachings.
Quote from Gita
From what has been said so far, it is easy to understand why all of us are not born with the same intellectual capacity. Or why the mind and body of each person is dissimilar from those of every other person. Or why there exist natural differences in our mental and spiritual lives. The theory of rebirth alone can explain this. Western scholars try to explain away these obvious differences by saying that the child derives its qualities-good and bad-from its parents. There is no doubt that to a large extent the child inherits various diseases and mental characteristics from its parents. When the child is in no respect similar to its parents, they try to ascribe it to the differences in education. In this way the parents and the teachers are bounded with the sole responsibility. These scholars can offer no other solution to explain the differences among people.
The Vedanta scriptures say that these differences are due to karma, our past actions. Whoever we perform any action, it is done with a purpose in order to achieve that purpose, we activate the forces. Within us and around us in a particular way. Once all these forces are awakened and activated, they cannot but produce certain changes as a result. Thee changes are experienced or considered by us a good, or bad , joyful or sorrowful. If experienced as good or joyful, the mind wanted to hold on to the changes for all time. On the other had, if the changes are experienced as bad or sorrowful, or those which would surely bring sorrow in the future, then the mind tires to get rid of them by all possible means . in this way our work produces joy or sorrow and also leads to more work, just as from a seed springs from a tree which in turn produces flowers, fruits, and more seeds. It is clear that this life is not sufficient is experiences the results of all our work in the form of joy and sorrow. These effects are thus experience in the next bright.

HOW TO BE LESS TIRED

HOW TO BE LESS TIRED
Much of the tiredness we complain of originates from the mind . For example, there is the tendency to think about jobs we have to do or about some problem which is worrying us. We become tired by thinking about tit before any indication of the possible problem.
Instead of worried thinking, select what is essential and necessary . Think constructively . Have a definite programme so that you know before you start in what order you want to do things.
Do tackle worries, one at a time . So often we get tired be cause we waste our energy shifting from one thing to another never finishing anything properly.
We became tired when we dislike and envy other people. If you are jealous of your neighbor, you are not likely to keep good relations with him. You fail to enjoy what you have, thinking only of what somebody else has and perhaps trying to get a similar thing.
Anger , enmity and living in a spirit of competition with other people, stimulate frustration. That state of continuous dissatisfaction with ourselves make us feel tired most of the time.
We become tired when we insist on trying to do too much in the available time. By straining to do more and more in less and less time we become increasingly tired. If you live in a chronic state or rush-and-hurry, we are likely to make mistakes or miss something important.
Make it one of your rule snot to push yourself too hard. Aim at being sensible and reasonable with yourself so that you make life flow as easily and pleasantly as possible. That is the way to be happier and less tired.
(Culled from “Psychological Magazine”)
Quote from Essence of Gita
We have seen that body consciousness and the “unripe-I” go away completely at the highest level of devotion. Now let us see how for this is true for the seeker of knowledge. The knowledge –seeker says that is the real “I”? the real “I” is beyond the body, mind and everything. It is the witness of all these. It remains unchanged in all states . It neither grows nor diminishes. The real “I” dowels to all This “unripe-I” of ours is just a part of the “ripe-I” or the real “I” . The “unripe-I” comes from eh real “I”. the goal so the knowledge-seeker is to always remain aware of the real “I”, and to merge the ‘unripe-I”, into the real “I”.
It is clear then that the devotee’s state of “absorption” and the knowledge-seeker’s “merger” with the real “I” are one and the same. Both the devotee and the seeker of knowledge want t drown the “unripe-I” . Hanuman was once asked, “How do you mediate on Sri Rama?’ He replied “When my mind is connected with the body and senses, I see that .He is my master and I am the servant. When I become aware of myself as on individual soul, I see that He is the whole and I am a part of Him. He is like the sun and I am jut one of the many rays of the sun. when my mind transcends all limitations in the super conscious state, I see that He and I are one.”
