How to Enoy Your Leisure

Monday 13-September- 2010
How to Enjoy Your Leisure
There are some people who are bored by leisure, It seems to them a waste of time.
While others work to live, they live to work and for work. The prospect of retirement fills them with fear and when it inescapable comes, they frequently crack up, simply because they have no idea how to use their leisure. There are others for whom leisure could become a real problem.
Do you get the fullest benefit from your leisure? Do you know how to use it properly?
There are certain simple principles whereby we can make much fuller and more profitable use of our leisure and thy are well worth mastering.
1. Have the firth idea about leisure;
It is important that our attitude towards leisure should be sensible and realistic. Work and leisure are part of the essential rhythm of life and we must accept that basic idea and then make provision for it.
For example some people seem to feel guilty about being found ‘off duty’. Of course, there are the professional work-dodgers whose policy is always to do as little as possible with the least effort to themselves.
But if we are to work effectively, we need leisure. Henry Ford is reputed to have laid that the Model ’A’ Ford would have been in production six months earlier if only he and insisted that his engineers had not worked on Sunday’s! This is simply an indication that working seven days a week made them less effective. A rest day would have restored them and increased their powers of concentration. They worked longer hours but less effectively.
So, let us recognize the apart which leisure has to play in a full life and to see what wrong it is to say that we have no time for rest , relaxation and leisure.
2.Plan to leisure;
Having recognized its importance, we must make definite and systematic provision for leisure. Some jobs make this more difficult than others. A doctor, for example, is liable to be called upon at any time . But this is no reason for not making provision for leisure indeed, a planning of a more careful provisions is all the more necessary.
Planning ahead for a particular occasion and kind of leisure has the effect of giving us some thing to look forward to and this can provide not only an enjoyable time when it arrives but gives that pleasurable anticipation which can have the effect of encouraging us and inspiring us in the midst of what may be other wise unpleasant and difficult tasks.
This is not necessarily to say that leisure time must always be at a precisely arrange time. Of course, for some occasions, it will need to be-theaters and cinemas do not arrange their programmes to suit our whims-but if our job allows it, it is a good thing sometimes to give ourselves an unscheduled break. Depending on circumstances, this may be to slip out for a cup of coffee or to have a half-day off.
3.Be active and creative.
The research why many people are bored with leisure time in that they equate it with idleness . Of course, there an be a place ever for this but it will be the rare occasion , the exception.
A morning in bed or even a cup of tea in bed, ma some times be the very luxury and relaxation we need. But generally speaking , leisure time Is not meant to be sent just moving round the house, unshaven and half-dressed. We need occupation of a positive kind.
Obviously, the exact activities in which we shall engage will very according to individuals. Indeed, once for the interesting things about leisure is the way it often enables us to find ourselves and to develop our real interests.
There is great room for experiment but some kind of creative work is worth trying. It is amazing, for example, the numbers of people who quite late in life have found a capacity to paint or draw and have found immense pleasure and pace in this occupation.
4.Learn to take leisure lightly
It may well be that part of your leisure time you will wish to spend in some serious pursuit-perhaps learning a language so that you can enjoy a holiday abroad more fully or taking some courses which will help you to improve your job.
Such a purpose will, of course, need regular and earnest application. But, in terms of sheer enjoyment, it is a god thing to have leisure time occupation where you do not need to take yourself so seriously.
For example , a game should be a game, but some people make every game a battle! They play as though their very life depended upon it. If it is a game such as bride, they probably make the whole exercise a miserly to their partner-unless he or she happened to be of the same dedicated type!
This same ability not to take oneself too seriously applies also to the kind of creative activity mentioned earlier. If you develop a pleasing skill in some art, all well and good. But do not be too much of a perfectionist. Do not be disappointed and frustrated because your results lack the mark of the professionals craftsman.
Determine not to spoil your pleasures by taking thing too seriously. There is great satisfaction of doing merely as a hobby.
5.Bring variety into you leisure.
To do the same things at the same time week in week out, year in year out is defeating one of the purposes that well spent leisure has-to bring freedom and spontaneity into our life.
Forms of Vinayaka In Different Countries of The world
The last that images of vianyaka (Ganesh), are found outside Indian culture has spread far and wide. Vianayaka is a very popular figure throughout Nepal, Chinese Turkistan, Tibet, Myanmar, Thiland , Indo-China, Java, bali, Norneo,China and Japan practically in the whole of East Asia.
Buddhist and Jains also claim Vianyaka as their God. He was known to the Chinese as well as to the Japanese under two forms one similar to that obtaining in India and the other (double form) two elephant-faced deities (male part and female counterpart) Japanese associated them with romance besides good luck. They call him Kangi-ten, double ganesha . In China He is seen in a rock-cut temple of King-hsein (531 A.D)
In Nepal Vianyak is seen with five faces, all that of elephants. The Javanese conception of Ganehsa in his sitting position is; He is calm. His calmness represents a man in ”Samadhi”
Generally Ganapati is enshrined in small temples and is given a prominent seat at the entrae of temles. But there is a vary big temple mainly dedicated to Him in Pillalaratti near Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu
If you goto sislam in Andhra Pradesh , you can see Vinayak playng a flute just like Krishna-Courtesy Sankara and Shanmata and “Tapovana Prasad”
No gift is more precious then a good advice.
Man’s suffering seems from his own inner attitude towards the outward happenings.
Yesterday is not for you, do it now
If you have hard work to do , do it now. Today the skies are clear and blue. Tomorrow clouds may come in view. Yesterday is not for you. Do it now. If you have a smile to show, show it now. Make harts happy . Let the friends around you know, the love you have for them; show it now. Prakash J . Shah
Everyone wants to succeed in life. Many of us say; “I want to succeed in my life”, Well, it is the expression of a desire to succeed in life. Having a desire is most important. But the desire alone cannot lead on to success. You must set a Goal.
Your ideas must be reinforced by setting a goal and you must prepare a plan to achieve it. Everything we see in the world around began as an idea in somebody’s mind.
A goal is an objective you want to achieve. A plain is a specific way of reaching the goal. Both the goal and plan are ideas in your mind.
You must clearly know what exactly you want. Without knowing the destination there is no use of proceeding on a journey.
There are many goals including money goals in everyone’s life. Thus you must be clear in selecting a realistic goal; it is better to set a goal as; Primary goal, intermediary goal and the goal of your life.
Before you select a goal you should know what talents you possess? What are your assets and strong points. Possibly you may have several talents. Select one in which you can excel.
On knowing and assessing your talents, you should look for an opportunity and find a way to utilise it. By constant effort you can even create an opportunity and work with imagination to achieve your goal.
To know your potential strength, you need to talk to your wise friends and take stock of your abilities and road blocks.
You must discipline your abilities for maximum usefulness to the maximum for a lasting success. The greatest undiscovered resources in the world lies under one’s hat and stands in one’s shoes.
Do not think either you goals or your plans to achieve them as unalterable. Goals are made to be shifted and plans are made to be changed.
While we are discussing about success through goal setting , our mind murmurs about “LUCK”.
Yes ,luck is found at a point where preparation meets opportunity.
Set your goal right now, work with imagination and make your life radiant with success.

I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha

On Being Beautiful

Monday 15 –May- 2010
On Being Beautiful
I read that Ponce de Le’on once searched for the Fountain of Youth and Beauty in Florida. But you will never find true beauty anywhere in the world as easily as you will find it in your own backyard; or more specifically, inside yourself.
If you are resentful, full of hatred, envy, jealousy, and conceit, chances are you will look ugly to others and to yourself even if you are physically attractive. External beauty is important, and we should try to be physically attractive as long as possible. Still young people must learn to realize that inner beauty is far more important than external beauty, because we get older whether we like it or not, but inner beauty can stay with us even at an advanced age.
What is inner beauty? Sharing your happiness and good fortune with others; accepting yourself for what you are, not trying to be someone else; forgiving others and yourself for errors that happened yesterday; seeing the good in yourself and in others and adjusting yourself to realities; longing for the better ‘you’ inside yourself and inside others and searching everyday for self-respect and the respect of others. These are the qualities that will give you everlasting inner beauty that will make you feel more beautiful and look more beautiful. This is the kind of beauty anyone can achieve at any age.
Today’s Determination
The way you view the day ahead on getting up in the morning has very much to do with your chances of success and happiness. So start right now with the following determinations:
A new day lies before me. I may be happy or miserable but I shall choose the former.
Regardless of the circumstances. I see myself relaxed at all times, to overcome all difficulties.
Today I shall make it a point to be cheerful, looking for the pleasant and beautiful, to be thankful for the countless benefits and comfortable living.
Today I resolve to live it with zeal, and to make it pleasurable for myself and others.
I determine to meet today’s problems as a challenge. I take up my responsibilities with cheerfulness and enthusiasm.
Think and Talk about good things.
When you talk about your troubles, your ailments, your diseases, your hurts, you give longer life to what makes you unhappy. Talking about your grievances merely adds to those grievances. Think and talk only about the good things that add to your enjoyment of your work and life. If you don’t talk about your grievances, you will be delighted to find them disappearing.
The most unhappy of all men is he who believes himself to be so.
We always respect the opinion of others when it helps to affirm ours.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step
Bring all forces of good together –Swami Vivekananda
Be noble in every thought and every deed.
The victories of truth have never been won without risks
Look before you leap , see before you go.

Always Laugh
Always laugh when you can; it is a cheap medicine. Merriment is a philosophy not well understood. It is the sunny side of existence.
The quote from True Religion always Help
These teachings to the entrant into worldly life emphasize the solemn duty of raising a family, caring for one’s welfare and consciousness. These in fact cover the normal urges and duties of a human being for enjoyment and advancement in this world, which, for fulfillment. Must be pursued according to the percepts of true religion.
Now to meet the requirement of life in the world we need to earn money. And in this too, religion is our friend. Even today honesty is the best policy in the world. He who earns his bread policy in the world. He who earns his bread through honest labour may not amass huge wealth, but he will not be dogged by anxiety and feat of exposure. He will have an inner strength which cannot be purchased with money. Those who earn cheap money, unrighteous money, not only constantly face the risk of exposure, but before they realize it, the money itself may have vanished end all further avenues of earning closed to them .
A man with a sense of hounour and dignity knows the at it is the man who makes the money not money the man. And this sense of dignity is more abiding if it springs from religion.
One without such a background thinks that it is money that makes the man and hence will do anything for money. All such will eventually suffer.

Get Rid of The Cobwebs of Your Mind

Monday 22 –February- 2010
Get Rid of The Cobwebs of Your Mind
Cobwebs are suggestive of age and disuse. We often hear people say, ‘get rid of the cobwebs of the mind.’ ‘Cobwebs stand for old fashioned ideas and prejudices that prevent progress. The saying calls one to shed old fashioned and outdated ideas and practices that hamper progress. To do things as they have always been done before is not always the best way of doing them. In the light of later experience, it proves wrong.
Many firms have struggled to carry on the old traditions initiated by the founder. This is in true respect to the principle that’ what was good enough for me”. While doing so they watched the businesses decline. So it requires someone with a more alert and more modern outlook to find a better line of thought. One must have the courage to introduce new ideas. If you ask a retiring person what he thinks of some new invention or changes, he disapproves. It is difficult to persuade a man to change his outlook on life or business, but not impossible. Such a person needs guidance. We must convince him that it is of no use denying the demands of the modern age we live in and work in. as the world progresses we must be able to find our place in the scheme of things, step-by-step.
One must not rest satisfied having achieved a little, but be determined to achieve more. Never mind what may or may not have been done in the past. Keep an open mind and bring a fresh outlook to make sure of progress.
Dusty desks and dusty minds! They both need cleaning and refreshing. No one can work comfortably in a closed room. If you are conscious of cobwebs, get rid of them from your mind. They hold you down, narrow your outlook and prevent you from making the most of life.
Success
When we focus our mind with single-pointed attention on a particular object-when we put all our energies into acquiring it-then without doubt, success is guaranteed and we will attain what we wish to achieve.
Lengthening My Nights
“Lazy fellow”, father said to his playful song, “Why do you sleep so much during the day? Life is short and by sleeping you are making your days shorter”.” Don’t worry dad-I will make up by lengthening my nights.” son replied.
At an infinite rate
Experience is a jewel, and it needs be so, for it is often purchased at an infinite rate.
A Wise Man
A Learner learns by making mistakes. A wise Man learns form the mistakes of others. A Fool never learns from his own mistakes, or from the mistakes of others.
Never too busy to be kind
The happiest are those . I find, Who stop to do the little things; Never too busy to be kind, Rewarded by the joy it brings.
The road to success is full of women pushing their husbands along.
To err is human; to blame is on the other party is politics.
What is your phone Number?
The girl asked her lover, “Darling if we get engaged will you give me a ring?” Sure”, replied he lover, “What is your phone number?’
I hope you will keep yours,
A man received a letter from a kidnapper. The letter said, “If you don’t promise to send us Rs 60,000, we promise you we will kidnap your wife.” The poor man wrote back, “I am afraid I cannot keep my promise but I hope you will keep yours.”
A heart without honest
Four things are empty-a head without brains a wit without judgment, a heart without honesty, and a purse without money.
Quote from The Essence of the Gita
This is what happens to those who have realized the Self through either knowledge or devotion. Even while working, they are able to see themselves as different from one who is working. They are like ripe coconuts; the kernel within has been separated from the shell. Shake the coconut and hear the sound! We, in contrast, are like tender coconuts-the kernel and the shell are closely bound to one another. A blow on the shell affects the kernel too. We become” ripe” through the practice of Karma Yoga. As in a ripe coconut, our “;kernel and shell’ get separated. The Self gets separated from the mind, intellect, ego, sense organs and the body. It then lives blissfully in its own true nature.
Having discarded all external coverings, the Self is able to stand by itself. Not to speak of the waking state , even in sleep the illumined person sees his or her own body as if ti were someone else’s , as if someone else were sleeping. The poet-saint Ramparasad sang in Bengali;
Sleep has left me, no more shall I sleep.
In the state of Yoga, I am awake.
Her mystic sleep ; to Her have I returned
And have put my sleep to sleep!
This is the state in which the illumined ones lives; they can understand perfectly the meaning of this song. The more selfless our work is , the more our I-consciousness gradually shifts away from the body and the senses, and come to rest in the Self. We then experience the state described in the song above.

Common Bond

Monday 8t –February- 2010
Common Bond
Terence, who was born a slave and made something of himself in Rome twenty-one centuries ago, said this. “I am a man nothing that concerns mankind is alien to me”. He was a comedian and was the first to proclaim the principle of common kinship in man.
Whether he is a black, red, brown or white , whether his language is different from yours whether he is rich or poor , whether he is a slave or free, whether this appearance is different form your whether his thoughts about life are different from yours, you have one common bond with an other person in the Universe.
The suffering, the sorrows, the greed, the despair, the loneliness and emptiness, the insecurity and uncertainly, the doubt and fear are the same. We all suffer the same. But there is a far greater bond that can hold us tougher. The faith and hope fortitude and persistency , smiles and laughter, understanding and courage, self respect and self-acceptance, confidence and encouragement, we can give each other in times of crises and in times of peace, seeking peace of mind. This is the greatest bond of all to hold us together as we struggle in the slow evolution form hatred, to tolerance, to love.
At no time in history has the call of unity of all people been greater then now. In this time of agonizing wars, in this time of nuclear weapons that threatens human existence. I believe that human understanding and sympathy. I believe that human encouragement and dignity will hold us together for a better world.
Sense of Self-Worth
Without a personal philosophy, a strong perception of who you are and what you stand for, you get buffeted around by every person, message, idea and event that comes down the road. You will find yourself running off in all directions at once. Instead of focusing on important problems .
The person who stands out in the crowd demonstrates that he has his own set of values and has a strong sense of self-worth. While the winds of conflicting idea blow some people away., and the tides of various fads(crazy ideas) wash others away, he will stand firm . and that is a big part of being smart and to get ahead and stay ahead.
Thoughts And Aspiration
You cannot get back yesterday. You are not sure of tomorrow. Today is yours to make whatever you want.
Let me be as good a I can. But never feel that I am superior to others. Let me never forget that the others are always better than I am.
You are not the body! You are the immortal soul within! There fore, do not become a slave of the body. Do not keep running after shadow shapes that come and go!
It is vital that we cultivate the healing habit of silence in this age of noise and ceaseless activity.
In prayer , we talk to God so much that we fail to hear His Voice. Learn to be still-and you will hear His Voice!
God is the Life of our life. He s the Breath of our breath. He is the Universal Self which is in each one of us. How can I get away from my true self?
Our life is shaped by our attitude . If you start complaining, there is so much to complaining. There is so much to complain about. It is the attitude that counts.
Enthusiasm is the greatest asset you can possess-for it can take you further than money power or influence.
Do not commit the sin of harboring an uncharitable thought against a brother or of slandering anyone behind his back.
Our thoughts are all-powerful. How many of us can really control them?
Miracles do happen in the live of individuals who lay their trust in God!
No one else is to blame for your present condition. You have built it with your own thoughts and desires. Generated in the near or distant past.

Quote from The Essence of Gita
I had read a story in my childhood. It was entitled .”The Difference between Having and Not Having Eyes.” This is how the story goes; One day two men went for a walk in an open field. One of them returned disgusted having seen nothing interesting during his walk that day. But his companion returned with great joy after collection many new herbs, examining the fertility of the land, and filling his pockets with different types of stones. Both of them had gone for a walk in the same field. The only difference was that the second man knew how to use his eyes.

Cheerful Temper Lightens Sickness

Monday 1st –February- 2010
Cheerful Temper Lightens Sickness
What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. They are but trifles, to be sure, but, scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is great. A cheerful temper joined with innocence will make beauty attractive, knowledge delightful, and wit good natured. It will lighten sickness, poverty, and affliction, convert ignorance into simplicity and render deformity agreeable
More insects then people in the world.
Scientists estimate that in every square mile(2.6 sq km) of land, there are as many insects as there are people in the whole world. (Velayudhan Featured)
We drink mineral water!
The medical officer was testing the water supply to the camp. “What precautions do you take against infection?’ he asked the sergeant in charge.
“Well we boil it first, sir,” the sergeant replied “Good”, “Then we filter it.” “Excellent”.” And then,” said the sergeant, “Just for safety sake, we drink mineral water in the bottle!”
Three Stages In Life
There are three stages in each person’s life. When one was young people said, “He will do something “. As he grew older and did nothings, they said, “He could do something in he found himself”. When he was white-haired, people said of him. “He might have done something if he had tried”.
An idea lives on
A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on ideas have endurance without death. .
Quote From Gita
We have to cultivate a yogi’s calmness in the intoxicating battle of life. We must learn to protect ourselves from the reaction which inevitably follows every work we do. Then alone will we be capable of doing something really great and be fit to be called human beings. It is not necessary to explain how often the intoxication of desire-propelled work leads to painful results. How many people sink to the depths of misery because of loss in trade and commerce and are unable to rise again! There are children who destroy their health in their maddened struggle to pass some test. Time and again we even see students commit suicide when they are not able to pass an examination in spite of their best efforts.
It is essential for all-particularly for those with secular responsibilities-to learn how to bring calmness in the midst of the intoxication of work . For these people the only means of progress in all matters, secular and spiritual, is work and work alone. There is no need to imagine that we shall lose our enthusiasm for work we learn how to work calmly; this is proven by Sri Krishna’s life.
Compare the teachings of the Gita with Sri Krishna’s entire life and you will see not one iota of discrepancy. Although he never works for himself, his enthusiasm for work surpassed the enthusiasm of all others put together. See him while playing in Vrindaban; see him in the royal courts of Mathur and Dwaraks; see him at the time of the Yadus’ destruction; see him on the battlefield of the Kauravas and the Pandavas; everywhere we see in his heart an extraordinary calmness and peace along with tremendous enthusiasm for work.
Life Requires Humility
A great professor who had mastered all the branches of learning decided he needed time to relax. He hired a boatman to take him to a nearby island. As the boatman to take him to a nearby island. As the boatman rowed away from shore, the professor asked him what kind of education he had received.
“My father was a poor man”, the boatman said, ‘and could not afford to send me to school. I can not read or write. I am just a simple boatman.”
“That is a shame!” the professor said jokingly,”Hall your life has been wasted.”
A few minutes later, as they reached the middle of the channel, a storm blew up and threatened to upset the boat.
“Master, you must jump over board,” the boatman said, “and swim for your life.”
“I cannot”, the professor replied, “I never learned how to swim.”
“That is a shame!” the boatman replied, “Your whole life has been wasted. You will surely drown.”
