Your Sleep And Your Brain

The U.S scientist have claimed than in the hour spent slumbering a rubbish disposal service swings into action that cleans up waste in the brain. Through a series of experiments on mice, the researches showed that during sleep, cerebral spinal fluid is pumped around the brain, and flushes out waste products like a biological dishwasher.

Dr Maiken Nedergaard, who led the study at the university of Rochester, said that brain cells in mice shrank when they slept making the space between them on average 60 percent greater. This made the cerebral spinal fluid in the animal’s brain flow ten times faster than when the mice were awake. The fluid flushed out the brain waste products and carries it down to the liver for final break down. The team also studied mice alter injecting traces of proteins that are observed in Alzheimer’s . They noticed that these beta proteins were removed faster from brains of sleeping mice     

However there are chances that what worked in a simple brain of a rat may have different result in the complex human brain. But it successful , it could pave the way for medicines that may slow the onset of dementia caused by the build up of waste in the brain.

The Good and The Peasant

Things people run after in the world can be divided into two categories-the good and the pleasant. More people, however , incline towards the pleasant things because they can be attained more easily. Often you never get the good things though you try hard.

Take for instance money. Money attracts everybody because it is the key to many pleasant things. If you have money, you have almost everything, you desire –food, clothing, comforts, power, honour, everything No wonder, people want money most.

The things money can buy are easy to get, but it is difficult to acquire a moral virtue like honesty. There are plenty of rich people in the world but few people truly honest. Not many people think it is important to be honest and only a few among them who so think succeed in being honest. The same is true of other moral virtues.

With a little intelligence and hard work it may be possible to acquire wealth. One in every hindered people is well-to-do, but not one in a million is honest. Many try, but they fail because the path is indeed very difficult. Trying to acquire a moral virtue is like climbing a hill. It is hard work. Those who are rich are rich because they are clever people –clever, hard-working, and practical. Whey can’t such people be also honest? What special effort has a man to make to be honest? And , above all, what is the hallmark of an honest man?

An honest man is one who never deviates from truth. He will sacrifice everything for truth but never sacrifice truth for anything else. Such people are pillars of society. No corporate life is possible where honesty is missing. If people cannot truth one another, a happy family or a society with abiding friendship among its members, is not possible. if the members of a family are each for himself, without any feeling for others, no one feels secure; each is afraid of the other. Can there be any civilization where there is no mutual trust?

For an individual what is good is his character. If he has a character morally rich, he commands respect from all. He may not own wealth or be a learned man, yet he will enjoy the love and respect of all. When he makes a comment people will attach important to it. This is because what he says springs from the goodness of his heart.

What is pleasant is temporary, because it is not based on anything permanent. Flattery may be very pleasant but it comes from people who have a selfish motive . they falters for some gain, but if they do not get what they want they may start finding fault with you. Similarly , health , beauty , power, and most other things in the world are pleasant but they are temporary. Sooner or later they decay. The good things are permanent. If you have a large heart it never shrinks. You feel for others though you may not be able to help them in the manner you would like. Love, friendship, and good will are hard to acquire but once you acquire them they are always yours.

If something is pleasant it is pleasant to you only and not to others. As a selfish person, you enjoy it and you are proud of it. A good thing is good, not for you alone but for all. Courtesy Vedanta in practice

I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Virtual Reality

Imagine wandering through a world that does not exist or catching a ball that is not there. It is all possible with virtual reality. For example, if you look into mirror, you can see a virtual world behind your reflection. Try holding a mirror horizontally in front of you while you walk from room to room. It seems like you are walking on the calling . but you should be very careful if you do this.

Virtual reality is anything that seems to exist but does not. A paining you might do of an imaginary house is virtual reality! The house only exists in the painting. With modern computers we can experience Interactive Reality interactive means it responds to things that you do.

Virtual Reality computer programmes can create imaginary landscapes that seem as real as the view you might see from the window of a train . Computer programmes use mathematical formulae to generate very realistic landscapes that move with you through this virtual world.

There are various items of equipments that can be used for exploring virtual reality. The most well-known is the headset. In front of the eyes are two tiny Tv screens that give yo a 3D view of the computer generated landscape. some more expensive headsets change the view as you move your head up and down or from side-to-side.

A VR Glove contains sensors that can detect the movements of  your fingers. Soon gloves will have sensors that make it seem as if you can actually feel virtual objects that do not really exist. Courtesy wisdom

The art of positive thinking

While defining religion. Swami Vivekanda said that religion is the idea which raises the brute unto man, and man unto God. What is the difference between a man and a machine? What is the difference between a man and a brute? The power of thinking. A machine cannot think nor can the brute; it is given only t the human being to think. Even the most wicked rogue, a crook., or even a criminal can raise himself to the height of the most pious saint, sage or a great soul, just by changing his or her way of thinking. There were many examples to demonstrate this. Who was Ratnakara and who was Angulimala? A robber and a dacoit, respectively. Today we bow down to them because of their complete transformation takes place and nothing less than that. This cannot happen in animals or machines. A man who does not think is not a human being at all

Most of us are not aware of this thought power . what is mind? A bunch of thoughts. All these thoughts, accumulated tendencies in the subconscious mind, make us dance to their tune. What a helpless condition? We are just machines manipulated by our thoughts. They guide us, make us act, force us to commit blunders and ultimately kill us. They dire us to unknown places rotate us in the wheel of samsara and bind us to this world. They drag us, pull us , and sometimes throw us in a ditch, and again lift us. They make us weep, they make us laugh-these thoughts. They make us obey like a slave. A salve whether caressed, or whipped, is after all only a salve. This is what our thoughts make us. There cannot be an effect without a cause.

Yes we ourselves are the cause of our helplessness . it is we who are responsible for our slavery. Yes we entertain the most crooked, evil terrible , violent , lustful, greedy and harmful thoughts . Brooding over them for years, nay births ,we have brought ourselves to this miserable state.

But there is nothing to despair or to be afraid of . There is hope. There are infinite possibilities hidden in each one of us. We can certainly undo what we have done. Non one can do it for us not even God “ You are the creator of your own destiny”, says Swami Vivekananda “ You are your own friend and you are your won enemy”, says Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. The whole responsibility lies on our shoulders. Look not for help . Turn the wheel upside down. Change the process of thinking. Effort is High Worship

‘ yoga Vaishta’ the famous philosophical treatise of our country deals with self-effort at length. According to the treatise, there is nothing which cannot be obtained in this world, provided man has made a proper and earnest effort. If a person, prompted by the desire to get a thing, honestly makes an attempt, he will certainly succeed in his venture. Let a person desire to obtain something in life, let him constantly strive to get it, sooner or later he is going to succeed. But he should go on in his path, unflinching and without hesitation.

So many people in this world rose from the very depth of distress and poverty to the heights of good fortune. People who overcame difficult and dangerous situations are those intelligent people who relied on their own effort, and not those who placed their meaningless trust in good luck. A man who ardently yearns for something and fervently seeks to get it , bound to get it. No idler has ever got any triumph in life. Each one should understand that he is his own friend or foe. He who cannot save himself cannot be saved by anybody else. Certainly a man can free himself from all unpleasant situations by his self-effort. Hence everyone has to proceed on the right path, with firmness of conviction and confidence. Great men of courage, of adventure, of knowledge never waited for the smile of fortune.

Fate is unnecessary concept for wherever we cast our eyes we see this results of industry and effort. Not inaction. Nobody has heard of anything happening in a lifeless body, which is perfect example of the non –existence of will. Fate does not do anything. It exists only in our imagination. it doesn’t have any existence of its own. Fate is nothing but the good or bad fruit of the actions that we have already done. That, which is within man’s reach, is the self-effort, what others will eventually term luck Success ultimately depends upon and individual’s effort.
