Heaven or Hell An old man who had spent a life time of sins by cheating and thriving was on his death bed. The prospect of death and his punishment that would be meted out after life time frighten even the hardest of hearts. This old man too became frightened and started praying to God for forgiving his sins and promising to be have better in his next life. The cries of this old man drew the attention of an angel who was passing by and attracted her towards him. Coming near the dying man, the angel asked him “Why do you cry like this?” The saying man told the angel faithfully about his sinful apst and his fears about the future. The angel asked; “Can you think of some good acts you might have performed which may help you?” Cried the dying man; “Not one that I can think of , for, whatever I did, was found. How I wish I had done a few noble acts at least!” Angel, “Now, think of your childhood, when possibly you must have done some good thing!” The old man thought hard and said; “ I am ashamed to say that it was a good act. When I was a child. I went without food for some days. At last I found a piece of bread which I wanted to keep for two days. At that time a poor man who was no better than my self looked at my bread and pleaded with me to share it with him. I agreed and parted with half of it to that friend. Ca I call this a good deed?’ Angel ; “Do not fear, it is an excellent act. Hold on to it and you will cross the other life with freedom from punishment.” This assurance soothed the old man and he died peacefully. The soul of the old man was carried to heaven, on the life provided by the bread piece. Now, even as the old man’s soul started ascending to heaven on the bread piece. Other souls of equal character which were departing from the world at about the same time started clanging to the bread piece which was carrying the old man to heaven! When a number of them jumped on it, the old man got furthered lest the bread piece should fall down and endanger his chances. Annoyed at that, he shouted to the other souls which had started crowding on his bread piece. “Be gone all of you, the bread piece is mine! Hardly had he uttered these words when the bread piece crumbled and the old man along with other who had crowded on to his , fell down crashing into the suffering of hell. One small deed of real charity had been able to overcome a life time of evil deeds, but an act of selfishness spoiled even that slender foothold. People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges. How to get Sense of Fulfilment From work. In one from or the other, we have to perform action/work during our lifetime. In this industrialised society, our man motive for work is to earn money. This motive becomes the driving force for all that we do and in course of time our inner life becomes unrefined, with this total dependency on returns for our work. There are some people who love work for tis own sake. They get pleasure just doing the work. They get a sense of fulfilment from work. To them, returns from work become secondary. A pat on the back, a work of acknowledgement or appreciation may be all they looking for. A mother doing incessant work for her family, for her children, has this kind of attitude to work. A mother/father with an inborn sense of duty performs their actions without an eye on returns. A student who is studying is not paid for his work. There may be at the back of his mind, plans for future prospects, for a future career. But for the time being , he has to be absorbed and devoted to his studies. He has to study. with a sense of duty . with this attitude, he can over come his likes and dislikes and pore deeply into his studies with total devotion. But what then will be the motive to transform all our actions into kamayoga, the yoga of selfless action, or work done with a sense of duty. Work done with this attitude comes out better . We feel we have mo energy for work. Work gives satisfaction, we learn a lot from it. Gradually, this attitude helps us to see the large process of life. Life becomes richer. We see much more behind ordinary, normal things of life, which we had taken from granted. We develop self esteem. Our self worth does not come from what return we get from the work, but from the feeling that we have done the work to the best of our ability. This enrichment of our inner life through work/action is called Karmayaoga. Complacency

Complacency
Being satisfied and pleased with oneself is one thing. Having respect for oneself is another.
Once you reach your goal you gain confidence. You use this confidence to set new goals to achieve. That is what creative living is all about. But when should one be proud of one’s achievement? When you develop confidence on your own initiative , there is no shame in being pr0ud of it. You don’t have to brag about it; but you can look at yourself with kind eyes and, with approval, you can accept yourself for what you are and what you can be . This does not mean complacency, being satisfied with your lot and staying that way.
Complacency is variation of conceit, because you like yourself and go on liking yourself for what you have achieved, feeling you need not achieve anymore. Complacency and humility do not go together, but confidence and humility do. There is a hidden danger in being complacent . soon you become passive and rest on your laurels, whatever they may be. Then you slowly retire from the realities of life. Creative living means that you must always keep moving in the stream of things. You can still enjoy a vacation now and relax in the room of your mind to renew your energies and your courage to tackle life’s problems complacency signals that you are resting too long. All rest and no work makes you dull, uninteresting, lifeless.
No one can make you complacent without your consent.

On Being Beautiful
I read that Ponce de Le’on once searched for the Fountain of Youth and Beauty in Florida. But you will never find true beauty anywhere in the world as easily as you will find it in your own backyard; or more specifically, inside yourself.
If you are resentful, full of hatred, envy, jealousy, and conceit, chances are you will look ugly to others and to yourself even if you are physically attractive. External beauty is important, and we should try to be physically attractive as long as possible. Still young people must learn to realize that inner beauty is far more important than external beauty, because we get older whether we like it or not, but inner beauty can stay with us even at an advanced age.
What is inner beauty? Sharing your happiness and good fortune with others; accepting yourself for what you are, not trying to be someone else; forgiving others and yourself for errors that happened yesterday; seeing the good in yourself and in others and adjusting yourself to realities; longing for the better ‘you’ inside yourself and inside others and searching everyday for self-respect and the respect of others. These are the qualities that will give you everlasting inner beauty that will make you feel more beautiful and look more beautiful. This is the kind of beauty anyone can achieve at any age.
Today’s Determination
The way you view the day ahead on getting up in the morning has very much to do with your chances of success and happiness. So start right now with the following determinations:
A new day lies before me. I may be happy or miserable but I shall choose the former.
Regardless of the circumstances. I see myself relaxed at all times, to overcome all difficulties.

Sure Steps To Attain Your Goal
Success does not come to those who just watch the world pass by. You mist have your goal. Here are ten methods to help you reach your goal and achieve success.
Have a Dream: Write Down What you Wish To Achieve! Everything starts with dreams, desires, goals etc. they will always be more than you presently have. If they were not , you would not want them. The most important thing you can do is write these ideas down as they happen. You can then capture all that is important to you. With constant review in a short time, you will begin to realize how important each and every goal is and you will sub consciously work out ways to achieve them.
Your Needs: There are four types of needs you will take into account; a)Physical Needs; b)Emotional Needs)Social Needs; d)Financial Needs.
You will find your day-to-day living requires something from all these groups. For example your physical needs could be as simple as playing a game to keep you fit. Your financial needs will be such as to have as much money at your disposal to accomplish what you wish.
As your goals becomes more clear in your mind, you will be able to understand the importance of each of these four needs.
Plan Thoroughly: Now that you know what you want you will now need to start bridging the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. Now that you are in the practice of writing things down that are important to you , you may have started to plan and prepare. Prepare Thoroughly. You cannot lost it you plan well.
One step At A Time
Plan well, set realistic targets. Plan to succeed from the outset.
Always Be Positive: To get to your goal you will need to brush away the negative attitudes. A healthy positive attitude is not enough on its own but it will open your mind to the several possibilities that exist on your journey to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
If you have a positive attitude to everything this will overflow into your achievement.
Persist Until You Succeed: Your desire for achievement will need to be supported with persistence.
With out being persistent, you may not get there. Where you get knocked down-getup again every knock down is simply a brief pause on the step during your ascendancy to the next floor. Learn from it and persist until you succeed.
Don’t Dream it! Be it!: Even the best, well thought out plan means nothing until its implementation. Action is the key. It is important to contemplated your next step before you take it with well structured plan.
Stay Active And Alert: Be up-to-date in your field of expertise so that you can always offer the best advise. Staying alert and active in your chosen field will give you an edge over your competitions.
Review Regularly: At regular intervals review your performance. Make comparisons with where you are compared with where you want to be. If it is not as good as you want either adjust the goal or the method for its achievement accordingly.
Do not disappointed if you cannot do it all at the first time as planned. You will need to confront obstacles in order to learn how to make things easier in the future. Making mistakes and adjusting you plan takes maturity. It come with extensive review and Self-analysis. The solutions will become simpler with periodical review of your targets.
Enjoy Yourself ; If you do not actively enjoy what you do, how can you expect to get so much from it? To be successful in what you do, you must really enjoy what you do.

If the scriptures cannot help us at all time sand in all conditions, then we don’t have a terrible need for such scriptures. If a scriptures can show the path to a monastic but not a married person, why would the married want such lopsided scripture? A scripture may help us only when we give up work and retire to a forest, but it may not help us in the din and bustle of the world, in the daily toil, in disease, sorrow and poverty, in the depression that follows repentance, in the revolt of the oppressed, in the cruelty on the battlefield, in lust, in anger, enjoy, in exuberance of victory, in the darkness of defeat , and finally, in the dark night of death. If the scripture cannot light the lamp of hope in such situations, then weak as we are, such a scripture is useless to us.
