Healing of body and mind

Each of us is a living part of the Whole, a direct descendant of Godhead; and when we become truly aware of this, it cures all our ailments. in my own life. I have known of extreme cases, pronounced hopeless by physicians, which were healed by a mere touch. Yet there was no miracle about it. It was the transmission of a spiritual power which accomplished it. If any man can resign himself absolutely and unreservedly to the Will of God, in a moment he will be made whole, and he will be able to heal others. The healing takes place by the natural process of life. Ordinarily we seek relief through roundabout ways; we seek all our consolation and help form outside; but if we can turn directly within to our own inward resources, we shall get results which will amaze us. The reservoir of lie in exhaustible. so long as we go on crying. My strength has failed, by usefulness is gone, my faculties have lost their power to act! We shut ourselves away from the fountainhead. The fact that we are in that state shows that we have detached ourselves form the Source of life. Every human experience, pleasant or unpleasant, only happens from within us and must happen the way we want it. What happens around us — family, business, national or international situations — will never happen 100% the way we want it, because too many forces are involved.

We can get it somewhere close to our liking, but not absolutely. Right now, our outside situation is not going the way we want it to go. Is this not the time that your inner situation must be absolutely the way you want it? But most people’s logic is when outside situations go wrong, they will also turn against themselves. They call this anxiety, fear or confusion.

Fear means you are causing suffering to yourself in anticipation of suffering that may never come to you — you do not even know whether it will come or not. Essentially, your imagination is running away, your intelligence has turned against you.

At a time like this, you should not become an impediment to yourself. The situation is demanding the best out of you — you will need every bit of your intelligence, capability and experience.

Those who are in leadership positions: how you think, feel, and act will make or break a million people’s lives. When you have such a privilege in your hands, you should not allow your psychological drama to overtake the realities in which you exist.

Your ability to function well in the world is largely determined by how balanced you are within yourself. To bring this balance, there are many tools, with which you can take charge of your body, your thought, your emotion.

I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

This message, the blessing of nivriti , is slowly percolating into the Western mind, through not only  influences going from India, but also from China and Japan and from their own writers, thinkers and psychologists, reacting wisely to their one-sided  cultural situation. By pravriti, you achieve social welfare-good houses , plenty to eat and drink, good dress, education, lighted streets and good roads; but too much of it is called consumerism today . for being peaceful, harmonious, fulfilled, and for the development of capacity to love people and to live in peace with them, we need the blessing of nivriti, which helps to manifest the spriutal energy that is within all in the form of the inherent divine spark. And , that nivritti can inspire all our pravriti also. That is what is taught in the Gita; nivriti inspiring pravriti. We have plenty of pravriti in India. Just now we have had our elections, and what an amout of pravritti we witnessed –full of violent thinking, violent actions, somebody snatching away the ballot boxes and many such things. Why do we do so? Because there is so little nivritti to stabilize and purity our thinking today. We should think and ask ourselves, . Why should we do this? Is it good for our democracy? Why have to give our people the freedom to vote as they lie; why should any political party control or interfere with it? We have all these distractions in our politics and much corruption along with it . but a touch of nivritti can change all this.

The Gita is going to tell us about that kind of life where there will be tremendous efficiency, great productivity and better inter-human relaxations. Mark the comprehensiveness of this approach of the Gita to human life and destiny! Sankaracharya is giving us in a nutshell this comprehensive spirituality of the Gita. It says that every human being is spiritual , even when he or she is in the pravriti field of life; one is never outside spirituality . That is a wonderful idea.

Spirituality is the encompassing, you are never outside of spirituality. That is the attitude of the Gita and the Vedanta. That is why I like this second sentence of his commentary beginning with. ‘Dvividho hi vedokto dhamah’ We never understood this truth these several centuries; we had diluted our religion and philosophy until in the last century our religion became like a the milk in our erstwhile market-90% water and 10% milk!

What is it about stupidity that makes it so susceptible to religions?

I know that many of you would find the previous sentence to be an error of some sort, and think that the actual intended query to be: what is it about religions that make it so susceptible to stupidity? But, no, the onus is not on religions but on stupidity to explain why those infused with it throw caution to the wind even when they put, never mind others, but themselves and their loved ones in harm’s way.

Absurd as it may seem to those not steeped in it, stupidity breeds its own logic. There are the usual harmless acts of stupidity, such as performing a yagna or religious ritual to, say, rid the coronavirus. Then there are downright dangerous ones, such as congregating to conduct a ritual to do the same while ‘knowing’ that any gathering while a contagion rages is realistically dangerous.

Stupidity thrives in believing anything its possessor chooses to believe in, and in not believing anything it chooses to not believe in. So, a stupid person can choose to believe that pigs can fly, while refusing to believe that an antidote, rather than an exorcist, can cure a snakebite. Religion becomes attractive for the stupid as the former runs on belief, essentially relying on believing in the comforting properties of believing.

There is a certain happiness to be gained in being fond of the notion that UFOs or Santa Claus exist. But to hold one’s breath till either descends from the sky or the proverbial chimney will only lead to asphyxiation, or worse

Tremendous Power of attitude.

Psychologists have always told us that attitudes can influence results . Two scientists decided to conduct an experiment to find out if attitudes could affect seeds.

Two identical cans were taken into each was purred soil and fertilizer of the same quality and quality and same number of seeds were dropped into each can. They were both placed in a green house so that they could have the same conditions of weather and temperature.

There was only one change in the experiment , all other thins being the same. Everyday, the two scientists came to the green house and standing before the first can, purred into it all the negative words which they were capable, of.

They said to the seeds , “ You are good for nothing. Nothing is ever going to come out of you and even if something comes out. It is not going to last”, and so on and so forth. Then they came and stood in front of the second can and pured into it all the positive words which they were capable of .

“You are so wonderful”, they said to the seeds and you are going to show wonderful results. It will be a sight to see what is coming out of you” and so on and so fort.

This was repeated thrice a day for three weeks . at the end of the third week, the scientists found that while there came forth only two or three shoots of grass out of the first ca, out of the second can, there came fourth whole strands of grass, so strong that they could clutch and lift up the entire can with the soil and fertiliser. Why do we worship the Kalasaha?

First of all what is kalasah? A brass mud or coper pt is filled with water. Mango leaves are placed in the mouth of the pot and coconut is place over it. A red or white thread is tied around its neck or sometimes all around . it in an intricate diamond shaped pattern. Such a pot is known as a kalasha, when the pot is filled with water or rice, it is known as Purnakumha representing the inative body which when filled with the Divine life force, gains the power to do all the wonderful thins that make life what it is.

A kalasha is placed with due rituals on all important occasions like the traditional house worming (grahpravesa), wedding, daily worship etc. it is placed near the entrance as sign of welcome . it is also used in a traditional manner while receiving holy personages.

Why to we worship the kalasa?

Before the creation come into being. Lord Vishnu was reclining n His snake bed in the milky ocean. From His navel emerged a Lotus from which appeared Lord Brhama, the Creator, who thereafter created this world. The water in the kalasha symbolises the primordial water from which the entire creation emerged. The leaves and coconut represent creation. The threat represents the love that “binds” all in creation . The kalasha is therefore considered suspicious and worshipped .

The waters from all the holdy rivers . the knowledge of all the Vedas and the blessings of all the deities are invoked in the klasha and its water is thereafter used for all the rituals, including the abhisheka, and the consecration (kumhbabhisheka) of temple .

When the Asuras and the Devas churned the milkly ocean, the Lord appeared bearing the pot of Nectar, which blessed one with everlasting life. Thus the Kalasha also symbolises immortality.

We greet Men of Wisdom with a Purnakumbha (full pot) acknowledging their greatness and as a sign of respectful and revertible welcome.

Simple remedies for cold and cough

You can catch cold on a fine summer day just by taking a dip and then having a drink of ice-cold water.

There are some time tested remedies of folk medicine.

Potatoes; They must be cooked with their skins until the skins split. Strain of the water and breathe in the steam through the narrow opening of a paper cone for 15 mintues. Two or three such inhalation siting will bring you relief from cough. In the night before going to bed. Drink a glass of hot milk, adding on it spoonful of honey

Mustard plasters are very good for cold and should be applied t both the chest and the back. In olden times mustard plasters used to be made of mustard flour mixed with water until it got the consistency of a think porridge.

Garlic : Its bactericidal properties were discovered hundred of years ago.

Begin by chewing a small piece of garlic, thus sterilising your mouth. Cut antoher piece into thin blades and smell them. If you have no garlic ready, take an onion, grate it squeeze out the juice and soak some cotton wool and smell it for 15 minutes . repeat this three times a day and your cold will be relieved

Onion ; it is an effective remedy for cough. Cut 500 grams of onions add 50 grams of honey and 400 grams of sugar and heat the mixture in one litre of water for three hours . take six tablespoonfuls of it every day.

If the cough is dry there is another tested remedy which may prove very effective. It is granulated sugar. Heat it in a teaspoon until it become brown . suck the piece every time you feel an urge in cough.

Raspberries; Keep raspberry jam ready. It is added to hot tea and drunk before going to bed to get relief from cold.

O my mind , how can you relish the foul smell of this world when there is beautiful fragrance, like that of the sandal wood in your own heart. The wise search within and enjoy the fragrance within.

O my mind, just turn your eyes within and you will see the Lord Himself seated there. The more you dwell on Him the more you will advance in spiritual life.
