The Power of Words: Enhancing Your Personality Through Communication
In our world, one of the most valuable assets possessed by ordinary individuals is the ability to communicate through speech. It is through our words that others form judgments about our personality. However, when we talk about communication, it goes beyond mere grammar, diction, and tone. It delves into the essence of what we say.
Robert Louis Stevenson once said that talk is our chief business in this world. It costs nothing in terms of money; rather, it yields profits. Communication enriches our education, strengthens our friendships, and can be enjoyed at any age and in any state of health. This holds true, but there is another saying: "The thing most frequently opened by mistake is the human mouth." Perhaps, many of us, with the exception of professional critics, would be better off if we followed this advice. If we cannot say something complementary or favorable, it is best to remain calm and say nothing at all. It is easier to criticize than to be right or to offer help, so many of us engage in unnecessary criticism. By ceasing such behavior, we can immediately improve our personalities.
Another method for enhancing our personalities lies in diverting the conversation away from our own interests. Instead, we should focus on the other person, their thoughts, and experiences. By becoming attentive listeners, even if we have heard similar stories before, we can establish stronger connections. Maintaining eye contact and actively listening will earn us credit for being good speakers. Remember, a good listener ultimately becomes a better communicator. Don't hesitate to talk, for as Rasmus put it, "By speaking, man learns to speak." Strive to strike a balance, allowing others a chance to express themselves. The worst thing we can do is appear bored when someone is speaking to us. It is crucial to remember that we are never truly bored with others or anything else for that matter; boredom stems from within ourselves.
In addition, it is essential to recognize that being brutally truthful isn't always necessary. Instead, prioritize kindness over painfully honest remarks. As William Blake phrased it, "A truth that's told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent." Even if a piece of gossip is true, spreading it with malicious intent will not enhance your personality. Exercise judgment and discretion when deciding what to say. As Mark Twain noted, good breeding lies in concealing how much we think of ourselves and how little we think of others.
In
conclusion, our words possess immense power to shape our personalities. By
being mindful of what we say, diverting conversations to others, becoming
active listeners, and prioritizing kindness, we can enhance our communication
skills and ultimately improve our overall personalities.
Embarking on the Spiritual Path: Nurturing
the Flame of Yearning
In the midst of our hectic lives, a whisper within us alerts us to the void we feel. Despite acquiring wealth, possessions, recognition, and connections, we sense a lack of fulfillment. Life seems to pass us by too swiftly.
This
gentle whisper ignites a spark of yearning, gradually transforming into a
fervent flame that seeks the purpose of our existence. Questions about our
place in the universe, the soul, and the divine begin to arise. When answers
elude us, an intense passion awakens, compelling us to uncover the truth.
The
journey of yearning commences with that initial spark. Fulfilling this yearning
is what we refer to as living a spiritual life—a life imbued with spiritual
love.
Spirituality
is the experience of embodying divine love itself. We can validate this truth
through personal reflection. Recall a cherished moment spent with a loved one—a
spouse, parent, child, or beloved. Remember the profound love that permeated
that experience. Did the world not appear more beautiful in that moment? Even
ordinary places assumed a new splendor when we were with those we cherished.
Love bestows beauty upon everything it touches. It allows us to perceive the
beauty within others, regardless of their outward appearance. Embracing a
spiritual life entails immersing ourselves in a perpetual state of divine love,
establishing a connection with the God residing within us. God is love, and
through meditation, we merge ourselves into the boundless ocean of divine love.
In
this state of spiritual love, we discover beauty in every facet of existence.
The realm of divine love is eternally resplendent.
Spirituality
should not be approached as a cold, detached subject to be merely studied and
memorized. Nor should it entail rigid meditation practices that isolate us from
our families, communities, and daily lives. Instead, spirituality invites us to
embrace our inherent nature of divine love, fostering spiritual connections
with ourselves, others, and all forms of life.
To
truly comprehend the spiritual treasures that lie within, try meditating and
witness the transformation firsthand. Through accurate practice, we can unveil
the inner Light. Understanding and conviction can only be attained through
personal experience. Books and lectures can guide us and provide methods, but
the true proof of spirituality can only be realized through meditation.
This
approach is both simple and practical, enabling countless individuals to lead
meaningful lives while pursuing spiritual growth. It allows us to thrive in
both worlds simultaneously. As we progress spiritually, we can positively
contribute to our families, society, and the world at large, harmoniously
balancing our spiritual pursuits with our responsibilities.
IF
HE EXIST
I drive joy there was a doctor in Benaras who
spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this,
his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was
wasting 7 precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into
believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am
wasting 7 minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your
entire lifetime. I prefer to waste 7 minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should
you grudge me the 7minutes joy that I derive 4m.-
