Anger: The
Devil Within And Without
Contemporary society’s single biggest
course is anger and all its ramifications; including violence, social and
individual stress and physiological and psychological ailments.
“Anger is an emotional state that varies
in intensity from mild to intense fury and rage” according to Charles Spielberg
(a psychiatrist who specialize in the study of anger)Like other emotions, it is
accompanied by physiological and biological changes . When you get angry. Your heart beat and
blood pressure go up, as do the levels of your energy hormones, adrenaline and
noradrenalin.
Anger can be caused both by external and
internal events.
Mundane irritants overtly manifesting
themselves can make a person fall prey to anger (external anger) Worrying and
brooding over personal problems can trigger internal mental unrest giving vent
to anger.
The instinctive natural way of expressing
anger is to respond aggressively. Anger is a natural adoptive reprise to
threats. It inspires powerful often aggressive feelings and behavior , which
allow us to fight and defend ourselves when we are attacked. A certain amount
of anger. Therefore is necessary for our survival.
On the other hand we cant physically lash
out at every person or object that irritates or annoys us; laws, social norms
and commonsense place limits on how far our anger can take us.
People use a variety of both conscious and
unconscious processes to deal with angry feelings . the three main approaches
are (a)expressing; b)suppressing and c) calming Anger is expressly visible when
for example provocation triggers visible retaliation, it is seen to be
suppressed when a subject does not permit his feelings to be overtly seen. Thus
a person even though seething with indignation- prefers to suffer silently or
takes to brooding.
Attempting to clam a triggering or
triggered temper by a strategy involving yogic exercise , deep breathing and
mediation are, perhaps he best means of controlling temper and there is enough
empirical evidence to make the above means sufficiently credible.
Yet another method of containing anger is
through “cognitive restructuring” Simply put, it means changing the way we
think .Angry people articulate themselves, loaded with curses and swear words
or worse still, physical assaults . Such emotions are injurious to the person
throwing up the temper tantrums, on the one hand, while inviting the irk of the
opponent. Negative thoughts which becomes visible as swear words or physical
assaults should be replaced by rational ones. For instance ,instead of telling
yourself. “Oh its awful, its terrible, every thing is ruined”, tell yourself
its frustrating and it’s understandable that you are upset about it, but it is
not the end of the world and getting angry is to going to fix it anyhow
Logic defeats anger, because anger, even
when it appears to be a natural corollary to a provocative cause can fast
become irrational. therefore , one should maintain an unruffled calm even
though provoked “beyond limits” This may appear “easier said than practiced”
but such a behavioral mode can ensure social cordiality and sound health. Also overcoming
such turbulence raises the social status of those involved, since they tend
more to be stereotyped as dignified and erudite men and women, with a high
level of maturity.
“Anger
is evil, even when it can do no injury, when it can injure there is no greater
evil, Anger kills both laughter and joy, what greater foe is there than anger?

Quote
from the true charm and power of Vedanta
With
the growth of devotion the mind is freed from the agitations of instinctive passions
like greed and sexuality-the products of Rajas and Tamas-ad gets establish in the
peace and poise of Satya
When
the Supreme Should is thus intuited within oneself, the knots of the heart that
make one feel oneself as an ego (one with the body) are severed; the doubt of
the mind are dispelled; and all the accumulated Karmas of the past as also
those in the offing are liquidated. Courtesy

But,
if He exists?
I drive joy There was a
doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation
on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they
argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been
misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I
agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But if He exists? I am afraid you
are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a
lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.
