 Lessons from Our Great Culture

Our great cultural heritage offers lessons that remain meaningful even in the modern world. At its heart is the idea that human life is not limited to material achievement. Wealth, status and success can provide comfort, but lasting happiness also depends on understanding the spiritual and inner dimensions of life. A truly fulfilled life seeks balance between outer success and inner peace.

Another important lesson is to have the courage to stand by what we believe is right. We should speak and act according to conscience rather than constantly worrying about how others may react. When a person is sincere, honest and genuinely committed to truth, an inner sense of direction can help guide important choices. Integrity gives strength to both thought and action.

Our heritage also places great value on human freedom. A living creature may be controlled by force, but the human spirit naturally seeks dignity and independence. True freedom, however, is not simply the absence of restrictions. It also requires responsibility, self-discipline and the courage to face life without unnecessary fear. Fearlessness and freedom together allow a person to develop their full potential.

The Bhagavad Gita offers another timeless principle through the idea of Karma Yoga. Its message encourages us to perform our responsibilities sincerely and wholeheartedly rather than becoming consumed by anxiety over the results. When we concentrate on doing our duty well, our actions become more purposeful. Work then becomes not merely a means of earning, but also a path of personal growth.

These teachings are not only philosophical ideas; they can be applied to everyday life. Honesty can strengthen relationships, courage can help us face difficulties, freedom can encourage creativity, and disciplined action can bring greater satisfaction to our work. The deeper lesson is that character matters as much as achievement.

The remarkable nature of this heritage has also been recognised by thinkers outside India. Ralph Waldo Emerson, the American philosopher and essayist, expressed profound admiration for Indian philosophical thought and its ancient wisdom. Such appreciation reminds us that ideas born in one civilization can speak to humanity far beyond geographical and cultural boundaries.

Perhaps the greatest lesson is that heritage should not merely be admired—it should be lived. In a rapidly changing world, ancient wisdom can still encourage us to seek inner happiness, speak truthfully, live courageously, respect freedom and perform our responsibilities sincerely. The real strength of a great culture is not only in its past, but in how its timeless values inspire people to build a better life today.

The Eternal Question: Does God Exist?

The question of God's existence has accompanied humanity for thousands of years. From ancient philosophers to modern scientists, people have wondered whether the universe has a conscious source or whether everything can be explained through natural processes. There is no universally accepted answer, which makes the question both fascinating and deeply personal.

For believers, the order and complexity of existence can suggest a higher intelligence. The universe, consciousness, morality and the human search for meaning are often seen as signs of something beyond the physical world. Faith therefore becomes a way of understanding realities that may not be measurable through ordinary scientific instruments.

Others approach the question through reason and evidence. They argue that extraordinary claims require convincing evidence and that many questions once attributed to divine forces have gradually found natural explanations. From this perspective, uncertainty is not a weakness but an honest position when evidence remains incomplete.

There is also a middle ground. A person may accept science as the best method for studying the physical universe while still recognising that questions about meaning, consciousness, values and purpose are not necessarily scientific questions. Science can explain how many things happen, while philosophy and spirituality may ask why existence matters to us.

Perhaps the idea of God also reflects humanity's deepest search for meaning. Across cultures, people have developed different concepts of the divine, but many traditions share themes such as compassion, truth, justice and inner transformation. These values can influence human life regardless of how one personally answers the question of God's existence.

Ultimately, the question may not be solved by argument alone. Belief, disbelief and uncertainty can all emerge from sincere reflection. What matters is the willingness to examine our assumptions, respect different viewpoints and remain open to learning. Intellectual humility is valuable when dealing with questions larger than our individual experience.

The mystery of God may therefore remain one of humanity's greatest philosophical questions. Whether someone finds the answer in faith, reason, nature, spirituality or uncertainty, the search itself can encourage deeper thinking about who we are, why we exist and what kind of life is worth living.

IF HE EXIST

I drive joy there was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting 7 precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting 7 minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste 7 minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 7minutes joy that I derive 4m.-
