The Art Of Listening
“Nature has given us two ears, two eyes, but one tongue, to the end that we should hear and see more than we should speak”.
Research On Listening Suggests;
A factor called “Listening comprehension” may be identified and isolated.
When improvement in listening is achieved, it may not be permanent.
There is a distinct difference between speaking rate and that of listening.
By increasing the rate of speaking by as much as 100% the listen rate does not suffer.
There is a high correlation between listening and intelligence; except in the case of unusually good readers.
One quarter of our waking life is spent in listening Elementary school children spend one half.
There types of listening;
You can improve your listening skills by being in good mental and physical health, not being preoccupied, being open minded being non defensive, minimizing interruptions.
Effective listening includes; hearing, interpreting when necessary, understanding the message and relating to it. A good listener learns to; Distinguish fact from opinion . Understand and evaluate inference and reasoning . Detect prejudices, assumptions, attitudes. Restructure vague speaking into clear meaning.
A good listener adds a new dimension to the art of communication.
Dr Carl Rogers asserts; “If I can listen to what he tells me, if I can understand how it seems to him. If I can sense the emotional flavor which it has for him , then I will be releasing potent forces of change within him”.
To make Man Great
Three things are necessary to make man great, every nation great. Conviction the powers of goodness. Absence of jealousy suspicion, and helping all who are trying to be and do good.
Progress
The test of our progress is not whether we add to the abundance of those who have much; It is whether we provide enough to those who have little.

Don’t Quit
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill.

The following are the vital points to ensure excellence in management.
Make every effort to make employees work ‘with you’ than work for you’.
As much as possible, use the words ‘please’ ‘ I am sorry’ ‘Thank you’ ‘You have done a good job”. Motivating your employees enhances their efficiency.
Be kind and generous in your dealings.
Recognize ‘human dignity’ and ‘self respect’ of each employee.
Create and promote congenial environment for everyone in your organization. Avoid double standards i.e one for workers and one for management.

Ever sting Embrace
The stream of my life is ever flowing on, Perchance checked by an impassable rock,
As if blocked for all time its goal.
Yet if blocked for all time from its goal.
Yet the yearning soul with feeble stroke
Finds its course through adamantine walls.
The stream of my life is ever flowing on;
Perchance in swift current,
Again slow and still as if stagnant,

Over coming obstacles and distance,

Good listeners
Good listeners can make better speakers. Active listening will help a person to become the best.
How to be an active listener? Look at the speaker and listen to what he is saying. A little sigh now and hen assures him that you are with him.
You should not leave in the middle of the speech, or toy with napkins, water glassed and such other things. Whispering and murmuring are distracting to the speaker. Do not use this time to do your own work.
Today is ready cash
Yesterday is a canceled cheque- you cannot cash it. Tomorrow is a promissory note- you cannot rely on it. Today is ready cash-spend it wisely.
Think and talk about good things.
When you talk about your troubles, your ailments, your dieses, your hurts, you give longer life to what makes you unhappy. Talking about your grievances merely adds to those grievances. Think and talk only about the good thing that add to your enjoyment of your work and life. If you don’t talk about your grievances, you will be delegated to find them disappearing.
