National Air Quality index
In addition to land and water,
air is the prime resource for sustenance of life. Clean air is considered to be
a basic necessity of human health life , clean air is considered to be basic necessity of human health and well
being. Awareness of daily levels of air pollution is important to the citizens,
especially for those who suffer from illnesses caused by exposure to air
pollution. Further success of a nation depends on the support of its citizens who
are well informed about local and national air pollution problems and about the
progress of mitigation efforts. Thus a simple and yet effective communication
of air quality is important with the technological advancements a vast amount
of data on ambient air quality is generated an used to establish the quality of
air in different areas. India has launched its first national air quality index
in response to studies on air pollution in the country, including one labelling
New Delhi as the most polluted city in the world.
According to the world Health Organisation,
about 6,20,000 people die every year due to pollution related diseases in
India. The environment Performance Index ranks India at 155 out of 178 countries
for air quality
The air quality index from the
Central Pollution Control Board is the first national index to explain in
layman’s terms the negative effects of air pollution. The index will provide
the current status of the level of pollution in a given city, with this being depicted
through a colour coded system indicating air quality, ranging from dark green
as ‘good’ to maroon as ‘severe’ the higher the AQI value, the greater the level
of air pollution, which means the greater the health concerns.
What is the AQI?
The AQI is an index for reporting
daily air quality it tells us how clean or polluted our air is, and what
associated health effects might be a concern to us. The AQI focuses on health
effects we may experience within a few hours or days after breathing polluted
air. The AQI serves us in many ways.
It assists administrators in
allocating funds and determining priorities.
It enables evolution of trade-offs
involved in alternative air pollution control strategies.
It helps to determine the extent
to which the legislative standard and existing criteria are being adhered. in
the process it reveals faulty standards.
It also presents an analysis of trends
of air pollution (degradation/improvement) over a specific period. it tracks
the behaviour of pollutants in air and plan pollution control measures.
It keeps the public informed
about environmental conditions. It is useful to people who suffer from illness
aggravated or caused by air pollution. Thus it enables them to modify their
daily activities at times when they are informed of high pollution levels.
It helps researchers. As a means
for reducing a large set of data to a comprehensible from that gives better
insight to the researcher while conducting a study of some environmental
phenomena. Courtesy wisdom
Quote from the True Charam&Power of Vedanta
Controlling the motion of the
exhalation and the inhalation follows after this
When posture has been conquered,
then the motion of the Prana is to be broken and controlled. thus we come to
Pranayama, the controlling of the vital forces of he body. Prana is not breath,
though it is usually so translated, It is the sum total of the cosmic energy. It
is the energy that is the each body, and its most apparent manifestation; is
the motion of the lungs. This motion is caused by Prana drawing in the breath
and it is what we seek to control in Pranayama. We begin by controlling the
breath, as the easiest way of getting control of the Prana
Its modification are either
external or internal, or motionless regulated by place, time, and number,
either long or short.
The three sorts of motion of Pranayama
are one by which we draw the breath in , another by which we throw it out, and
the third action is when the breath is held in the lungs, or stopped from
entering the lungs . These again, are varied by place and time. By place is
meant that the Praa is held to some particular part of the body. By time is
meant how long the Prana should be confined to a certain place , and so we are
told how many seconds to keep one motion, and how many seconds to keep another,
the result of this Pranayama is Udghata, awakening the Kundalini COURTESY

But, if He exists?
I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening
for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him.
One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something,
which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does
not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am
afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes
rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I
derive 4m.
