The
Moulder of Character
Every action of our might
resemble a waves moving on the surface of a lake, which appears for a while and
then disappears. But our thoughts and feelings and the actions that we do, produce
impressions on the mind. Which may seem to be erased after some time, but
really produce permanent marks in the deeper layers of the mind, which are
called ‘Samskara’ (impressions)in Sanskrit Hundreds of such samskaras formulate
our conduct and character. Conduct or
character is nothing but fashioned will, according to John Stuart Mill. The will
is nothing but the sum-total of thoughts inspiring action. So these thoughts
have to be proper. Otherwise life can be deformed ot a horrifying extent.
The inspiration can be taken from
the life of a great personality, if you really love and respect somebody, you
will invariably imbibe his virtues and ideals. According to Alexis Carrel, the
worship of the great, endowed with noble qualities and excellence of character
is one of the needs of men. It is also necessary for their mental development. In
all the nations across the globe, there are not any living models whom young
people can emulate, but also men who lived in the past and left a noble example
In the life –stories of great
scholars, heroes and saints there is an unlimited fund for the souls’ energy .
they give us an idea of what heights we can scale i life, how noble the goal
set by human consciousness can be. From a similar point of view, Booker T.
Washington, the African –American leader who strolled with his constructive
projects to raise the life of the African –American community in America said
:As i grow older, it is becoming increasingly clear to my mind that no book nor
machine can give us the knowledge or education that the company or cultured gentlemen
can give us”
The saints, mahatmas; men of experience,
educationists of our country are unanimous about thing. We should keep off evil
men. However difficult it may be we should not give up the company of good
people what men learn consciously with
effort, and what they learn automatically , by unconscious imitation of the
world, are both effective ways of acquiring experience in this context, we
should be aware of the words of men of wisdom and mould our character.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
This clinging to life you see
manifested in every animal. Upon it may attempt have been made to build the
theory of a future life, because men are so fond of life that they desire a
future life also. Of course it goes without saying that this argument is
without much of is value, but the most curios
part of it is , that, in Western countries
the idea that this clinging to life indicates a possibility of future life
applies only to men, but does not include animas . in India this clinging to life
has been one of the arguments to prove past experience and existence . for
instance, if it be true that all our knowledge has come from experience, then
it is sure that that which we never experienced we cannot imagine or understand.
As soon as chickens are hatched they begin to pick up food. Many time it has
been seen , where ducks have been hatched by hens that as soon as they came out
of the eggs they flew to water, and their mother thought they would be drowned,
if experience be the only source of knowledge where did these chickens learn to
pick up food , or the duckling that the water was their natural element? If you
say it is instinct, it means nothing –it is simply giving a word, but is no explanation.
What is this instinct? We have many instincts in ourselves. for instance most
of you ladies play the piano and remember , when you first learnt , how carefully
you had to put your fingers on the black and the white keys one after the other but now after long years of
practice you can talk with your friends while your fingers play mechanically. It
has become instinct. So with every work we do; by practice it becomes instinct
it become automatic but so far as we know all the cases which we now regard as automatic
are degenerated reason. In the language of the Yogi, instinct is involved reason.
Discrimination becomes involved, and gets to be automatic Samkaras Therefore,
it is perfectly logical to think that all we call instinct in this world is
simply involved reason. As reason cannot come simply involved reason. As reason
cannot come without experience, all instinct is therefore the result of past experience Chickens fear the hawk and ducklings love the
water.; these are both the results of past experience. Then the question is whether
that experience belongs to a particular soul, or to the body simply whether
this experience which comes to the duck is the duck fore fathers experience of
the duck’s own experience . Modern scientific men hold that it belongs to the
body, but the Yogis hold that it is the experience of the mind, transmitted through
the body. This is called the theory of reincarnation. Courtesy

But, if He exists?
I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening
for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him.
One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something,
which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does
not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am
afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes
rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive
4m.
