In all walks of human life, the
habits relating to the formation of thoughts, emotions and actions play an
important role. It is habit which mould personality or harm it. If we continually
do something good or bad, for a sufficiently long time, it influences our mind
and our nervous system so strongly that the habit becomes a part of our nature
and it carried out like our involuntary actions.
Samuel Smiles gave an interesting
example of Robert Peele in his book called “Self –help” Peele’s father was keen
on teaching him the art of public speech. As a child, Robert Peele was often
brought to the stage and asked to speak. For instance, he was asked to repeat
the sermon he heard in church the previous Sunday. Initially, there appeared to
be no progress. But gradually, with steady effort he cultivated extraordinary
power of attention and concentration. He could repeat, without the help of any
notes, long speeches wholly without omitting a word., later in parliament, when
he could reply to several questions in perfect sequence, everybody was filed
with wonder at his extraordinary memory . not everybody knew that he had carefully cultivated this
habit from his childhood at the insistence of his father. Before the advent of
the art of reading and writing, Indian had mastered the art of committing to memory
scriptures like the Vedas, Upanishads and thousands of hymns and of bequeathing
this treasure of language and literature to posterity. It is an indisputable example of the remarkable power that one can
acquire with the help of regular practice.
The remarkable feats performed by people
trained in the circus are concrete examples of the miraculous power and accomplishments
that can be achieved by regular practice and exercise; and so if a man witness
a circus performance for a while , he is sure to be filled with a sense of
enthusiasm and cheerfulness.
So a new habit cannot be acquired
merely with the help of intention, Constant and steady practice is needed to
nourish and strengthen it. Courtesy wisdom

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
Besides , this can be thought
that he who incarnated as Rama or as Krishna in the past for the welfare of the
world, the same ‘He’ with the help of the power of Maya has come down in the
form of Sri Rama Krishna in this age. Meditate like this. At one place in the
Siva-mahimnah stotram it is said addressing Siva, ‘You are verily that . Being
which the Yogis contemplated during meditation
The meaning of that sloka is. “Thou
art indeed that indescribable Truth which the yogis realize through mediation
on the self, by controlling the breath according to scriptural direction, and
realising which they shed tears of thrilling joy and swim as it were in the
pool of nectar, enjoying inner bliss.
During meditation it will be observed
that thoughts are continuously flowing in the mind. It is hardly possible to
make mind free of thoughts. And the wonder is that we too flow along with the
current of thoughts . after a long time , we come back to awareness and say. “What
the hell was i thinking about!” That means i was not alert . i too was following
in the direction in which the mind was pulling me. If we observe he mind or
gradually examine it, then it can no longer drag us we gain control over it. The
mind cannot overpower us. We can control it.
I often think about another characteristic
of the mind . the same mind can be divided into two one is the seer, the other
si the seen. That is to say is the seer-mind and another is the seen mind. When
the seer mind examines the seen –mind then it is not possible to get drifted
away by the thoughts of the mind. That is why Swamiji has instructed, ‘Do not
start meditating immediately after sitting of the seat. Observe the mind for
some time. Observe what it si doing you will see that gradually the flickering of
mind will stop. The mind will be concentrated Then meditate.’

But, if He exists?
I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening
for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him.
One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something,
which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does
not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am
afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes
rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive
4m.
