Wishful Thinking

Wishful Thinking
Whenever I feel that a “certain thing” is impossible, I slip into wishful thinking and imagine that “the certain thing” has already been accomplished. So wishful thinking a form of daydreaming. When we make a temporary compromise by walking away from truth, we think we sustain ourselves through passive inaction and we hope that things will turn out the way we want . But sooner or later we  have to return to reality, adjust to it in a creative way and accept, daily living as a challenge not as a compromise. I do day dream : that I hate none, hatred violence , greed. And only peace and happiness that reins supreme al this remains wishful thinking if I don’t contribute my mite towards this end. There is nothing wrong with day dreaming now and then for a few moments our hours is it is used as relaxation from tension. Then I recall happy moments succeed moments in the past and renew my enemies for the present.

As Miquel de Unamuno said. “to think is to converse with oneself” You can make the choice, but you ant use daydreaming in the process. When you converse with yourself, you must play ball(as I do mentally) to find the big you. Only the will you be able to converse with others . when you are a friend to yourself, you will be a friend to others. And you cannot be a friend to yourself by inadequate thinking, by wishful thinking, or by daydreaming. As we say, think creatively , then do creatively your part. When ? Now! Is this our world or isn’t it? Isn’t the time ripe to abide by what our ancestor stood fro and not compromise the values in the making of our nation and also be as duty conscious as Sri Lal Bhadur Sastri.

Humour

‘Mummy , may I leave the table?’
Well , you certainly can’t take it with you!

Daddy , I don’t like cheese with holes’
Just eat the cheese and leave the holes on the side of your plate’

Qoute from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
Thou who aret the soul and the well wisher of all beings in the world, dost not look upon anyone as high or as low unlike ordinary begins. Yet just as the heavnely wish-yielding Tree, the Kalpaka-virksha, give one’s objects of deisre only when one goes under it and prays for what one wants, so Thy grace too is bestowed oin men thorugh the service of Thee. Blessings comes according to servie not on consideration and low.
Neither charity noir austerity, neither sacrifices noir urficatory rites and vows are sufficient to please Him. He becoems pleased by pure Bhakti by loving devotion without any ulterior motive. All other practise are an empty show. The suprme object of human life consists in cultivating exclusive and one-pointed devtiion to Sir Hari and saluting His presnce in all objects.
There is no such thing as good and bad.
As soon as we can give up good and evil it becomes heaven
Good and evil ae not two thing but one
To have good and no evil is childhish nonsense.
Faith in God and in one’s own Self is virtue; doubt is sin.
Strength and manliness are virtue; wekness and cowardice are sin.
He who takes happiness , mut take misery also.
What is good for me may be bad for you.
Life is good or evil accoring to the state of mind in which we look at it, it is neither by itself.
That which is bad today may be good tomorrow.
That which tends to increse the divinity in you is virtue, and that which tends to increse brutality in you is vice.
Happiness and misery are the obverse and reverse of the same coin.
But, if He exists?
I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Equanimity of Mind

Monday, April 20, 2015

Equanimity of Mind

Antoinus Pius, one of the old Roman rulers was asked n his deathbed to sum up the philosophy of his life. He had answered in a single dramatic word, “Aequanimitas” which means equanimity. It means, as the Bhagavad-Gita said, ‘sithita  Pranjnatva, a clam, patience, strength to accept the trials of life and rise superior to them; a powerful weapon to control one’s anger, the root cause of many destructive and violent actions in the world. What we need today to save our mother Earth and thereby human race, is patience and a tolerant attitude. Whether you are an individual with no family bonds, head or part of a family, organization,  your well-being purely hinges on  your attitude to others. Just as a rusted leaver makes a machine inoperational, your relations will turn sour when you lose your poise, self-possession and the needed calm strength to come out of testing situation.

In the present world scenario the words “Imperturbability and patience” have greater relevance than at any other times. These certainly help resolve many conflicts and confrontation politically as well as on social and religious fronts imperturbability means calmness and presence of mind under all circumstances. It has the nature of a divine gift, a blessing to the possessor, a comfort to all to the possessor, a comfort to all who come in contact with him. We can cite several striking illustrations such as Nelson Mandela Martin Luther King, besides many scientists and innovators who passed through many trials and tribulations to achieve what they all stand for today. They all thought righteously and practiced the same with firmness and courage.

How can we acquire the state of equanimity, poise of mind and patience? We all know that poise or calmness of mind, or patience is the most desirable attitude. How difficult to attain! Yet how necessary in success as in failure! Our natural temperament has a lot to do with its development, but  clear knowledge of our relation to our fellow beings and to the work of life is also equally important. One of the first essentials in securing a good natured equanimity is not to expect too much of the people amongst whom you live. There is a need of infinite patience and understanding. But none of us can escape the cares and anxieties of life. To cultivate patience and equanimity as well as poised mind one has to wrestle on bravely, for in persistency lies victory. Even with disasters ahead. It is better to face them with  a smile and with the head erect, than to crouch at their approach. It has been said rightly that “in patience we shall win your souls” and what is the patience but an equanimity which enables you to rise superior to the trials of life. ?

Importance of Sleep

Sleep is not merely taking time from our busy routine.  It is essential for physical, mental and emotional well being A good night’s sleep gives the body time to heal and the bran, time to process all the stimuli it has received.
A hot bath before bed lowers BP and helps sleep better
Skin absorbs the therapeutic ingredients of cosmetics better during sleep
Fill a herbal pillow with dried lavender, roses, cloves citrus, khus and other herbs to get a refreshing sleep.
Chose a mattress that supports the spine A bed that is too hard or too soft will tire out  your body.
Loss of sleep increases blood sugar levels, which is risky for diabetics.

Life is series of awakening.

Release it.
It is true that we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it, but it also true that we don’t know what we’ve been missing until it arrives.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

Vedanta gives the reason why an average man-the Old Adam-finds the struggle to reach God so hard. It is the law of Karma, the result of actions performed in past lives, that does not allow one to progress as fast as one would like to. But Vedanta also says that a person can largely determine the future by his present activities; which means that each individual has sufficient freedom to wipe off, to a great extent, the bad effects of his past Karma by means of good actions in this life “Trailing clouds of glory, do we come from God who is our home” and to God we ultimately return; but the time required for the degrees of one’s readiness and earnestness. An intense spiritual struggle means an attempt to squeeze the good thoughts and acts of perhaps a thousand lives into one the struggle becomes mighty- almost pathetically grand-when a bold spirant resolves to complete in a single life what it would take others many , many lives to achieve
And , after  all, what does it matter even if the bravest of aspirants does not fully succeed in achieving the intended result, in spite of the intensity of his struggle? It is far better to have struggled and lost, than not to have struggle at all. Moreover, it is an incontrovertible law of nature that no labour is lost no sincere attempt goes in vain. According to the Gita , Arjuna asked Sri Krishna;
“What happens to the man who , sincerely following the path of Yoga, breaks down halfway? Losing this world and the next, is destroyed like clouds scattered by the wind?”

To this the Lord replies:

“A doer of good can never come to grief, my child. No harm can betide him there or hereafter.”
The Scripture say that an aspirant who has failed to achieve success in Yoga in one life is born again , and continues the work left unfinished, with greater advantages than before.
 So none need despair .

Money the Necessary Evil

The part played by money in our everyday life is
verxy important indeed. We need money to buy
food and to pay our bills. In this modern world,
most of the things that we want, material or
otherwise, can be obtained in exchange for
money. Without money, one's life can become a
misery.
It is thus not surprising to find that many people
place money making as their top priority in life.
This attitude is fine as long as they remember
that there are other facets of life in which
money is not required. Quite often money cannot
buy these things at all. Take for example, one's
health: money can buy the best medical care
available, but if free basic attention has not been
paid to one's health which is allowed to
deteriorate, there will come a time when no
money in the world can return one to good
health. I, for one, prefer to be healthy than rich.
Nevertheless we do need money. So it is wise
for every able-bodied person to do some sort of
work so that he or she can be paid for the work
done. Subsequently, he or she can spend the
money buying necessary things.
I suppose that the work-in-exchange-for-money
practice works well in general. However for some
people, the lure of money becomes
overwhelming. Greed blinds them and they spend
their whole life pursuing money. The methods
employed in this pursuit are not subject to any
law or reason. As long as they make profit, they
will do it even though they might hurt themselves
and make enemies in the process. Time and
again we hear stories of people caught up with
this money-madness. The millionaire who dies of
starvation, the miser who would rather freeze
than spend some money on heating, the woman
who stuffs her money inside her mattresses only
to lose it all in a fire—the list is endless. All
these are examples of people who have allowed
money to be the most important thing in their
lives. They started out trying to make a living.
They ended up forgetting to live.
Most people that I have met lament about
money, or rather, the lack of it. They are always
trying to make ends meet. There is always an
unsettled bill to pay. It seems to me that this
situation occurs because diese people are
always living beyond their means. They must buy
another car, another house, a larger TV set, the
latest cell phone, etc. To remain in debt
becomes the vogue. Keeping up with die Society
is a very real social disease of our times. It
keeps the people slogging all their lives. It keeps
the banks and manufacturers happy.
Then there are people who want money but
indulge in foul means to acquire it. We have con-
men, thieves, kidnappers and gangsters operating
in the midst of society. Sometimes these felons
are caught and punished, but they will never be
eliminated completely. This is because our very
societal structure produces these criminals. We
are all taught from young to pursue money. We
grow up feeling that we must have money, and
how shameful it is to be poor. So we learn to
make money. Some of us learn skills and
knowledge—thus enabling them to make money
honestly. Some of us, either due to a lack of
ability or unforeseen circumstances, employ
socially unacceptable means of accumulating
money.
In conclusion I would say that virtually every
adult is after money-making in some form or the
other, be it earning an honest living or getting
money from the point of a gun, it is the degree
of the social acceptability of effort that is
exerted to obtain money that varies from person
to person. Each person has his/her choice—to
make and use money wisely, or to let money
become his master. In other words, it is left to
him/her to decide, whether he/she wants to lead
a rich balanced life where he thoroughly enjoys
his/her work and the fruits of his work; or he/she
wants to fill himself so much with money that
he/she forsakes his/her self and becomes
smothered by his/her riches.

Qoute from The True Charm & Power of Vedanta

Never say, "O Lord, I am a
miserable sinner." Who will
help you? You are the help of
the universe. What in this
universe can help you? What
can prevail over you? You are
the God of the universe; where
can you seek for help? Never
help came from anywhere but
from yourself. In your
ignorance, every prayer that you
made and that was answered,
you thought was answered by
some Being, but you answered
the prayer yourself
unknowingly. The help came
from yourself, and you fondly
imagined that someone was
sending help to you. There is no
help for you outside of yourself;
you are the creator of the
universe. Like the silkworm,
you have built a cocoon around
yourself. Who will save you?
Burst your own cocoon and
come out as a beautiful
butterfly, as the free soul. Then
alone you will see Truth.

Why do Monkeys groom One another?

Monday 6 April 2015

 Laugh

Past tense

Teacher : “ I am young and beautiful , Ramu tell what tense it is”

Ramu : “ Past Tense Madam.

With a smile

Income tax Officer : “You should pay your taxes with a smile”

Young Lady; “ I have tried thrice but every time they insist for cash”

Use it here alone

Kamalesh asked the teacher , “Sir, shall I take this book home”? Teacher said “ No, use it here alone, I don’t give anything to home”

After some days the teacher came to Kamalesh’s house and asked for a broomstick to clean his house Kmalesh said “NO sir, I don’t give anything to home .You must use it here alone”

Mother Tongue

Teacher : “Why people often talk of “ Mother Tongue?”

Student : “Because father never gets a chance to use it

Don’t blame me

Manager: “Look at all the dust on this desk! It looks as if it has not been cleaned for a fortnight.

Servant: “Don’t blame me Sir, I joined duty just a week back”

Why?

Why do Monkeys groom One another?

Grooming (making smart and clean) is a particularly important activity for rhesus and other monkeys because it provides psychological and social benefits to them. It strengthens group bonds as well as the connections between individual monkeys.

Scientist believe that constant picking helps release tension in the group. Grooming also serves to keep monkeys healthier . when a monkey’s rubs through another monkeys fur, it is giving comfort to its companion. It is also removing dirt and flecks of dry skin.

A heart without honesty

Four thins are empty – a head without brains, a wit without judgment, a heart without honesty, and a purse without money.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

To includes this minds, therefore, religion must become broad enough . Everything it claims must be judged from the standpoint of reason. Why religious should claim that they are not bound to abide by the standpoint of reason , no one knows. If one does not take the standard of reason, there cannot be any true judgment, even in the case of religious. One religion may ordain something very hideous, For instance, the Mohammedan religion allows Mohammedans to kill all who are not of their religion. It is clearly stated in the Koran. Kill the infidels if they do not become Mohammedans’ They must be put to fire and sword. Now if we tell a Mohammedan that his is wrong , he will naturally ask. ‘How do you know that? How do you know it is not? My book says it is’ If  you say your book is older, there will come the Buddhist, and as my book is much older still. Then will come the Hindu, and say y books are the oldest of all. Therefore  referring to books will not do. Where is the standard by which you can compare? You will say , look at the Sermon on the Mount , and the Mohammedan will reply look at the Ethics of the Koran. The Mohammedan will say, who is the arbiter as to which is the better of the two? Neither the New Testament nor the Koran can be the arbiter in a quarrel between them. There must be some independent authority, and that cannot be any book, but something which is universal; and what is more universal than reason? It has been said that reason is not strong enough; it does not always help us to get at the Truth; many times it makes mistakes, and therefore the conclusion is that we must believe in the authority of a church! That was said to me by a Roman catholic, but I could not see the logic of it. On the other hand I should say, if reason be so weak, a body or priests would be weaker, and I am not going to accept their verdict, but I will abide by my reason, because with all its weakness there is some change of my getting at truth through it; while, by the other means , there is no such hope at all.

We should, therefore , follow reason and also sympathies with those who do not come to any sort of bele3if, following reason . for it Is better that mankind should become atheist b following reason than blindly believe in two hundred millions of gods on the authority of anybody. What we want is progress development, realization. No theories ever made men higher. No amount of books can help us to become purer. The only power I sin realization and that lies n ourselves and comes from thinking let me think. A clod of earth never thinks; but it remains only a lump of earth. The glory of man is that he is a thinking being. It is the nature of man to think and therein he differs from animals. I believe in reason  and follow reason, having seen enough of the evils of authority, for I was born in a country where they have gone to the extreme authority.

The Hindus believe that creation has come out of the Vedas, How do you know there is a cow? Because the word cow is the Vedas. How do you know there is a man outside? Because the word man is there. If it had not been, there would have been no man outside. That is what they say. Authority with a vengeance! And it is not studied as I have studied it, but some of the most powerful minds have taken it up and spun out wonderful logical theories round it They have reasoned it out, and there it stand-whole system of philosophy; and thousands of the brightest intellects have been dedicated through thousands of years to the working out of this theory, Such has been the power of authority, and great are the dangers thereof. It stunts the growth of humanity, and we must not forget that we want growth. Even in all relative truth, more than the truth itself, we want the exercise . That is our life.
