Power of Observation
A great part
of education is the cultivation of the faculty of observation. The value of
observation was introduced to the reading public in an interesting form by Sir
a. Conan Doyle when he created his famous character of Sherlock Holms would
notice a speak of mud on a man’s shoe and concluded from that how for the man
had traveled that day. .
Houdini the great illusionist.
Brought out the powers of observation in his son in an ingenious way. He placed
several small objects on a tray, and instructed his son to look at the tray and
its contents for a minutes . then he threw a cloth over it, and asked the boy
to write down the names of the objects which he had noticed,.
Keen observation is the most useful
quality to possess. The employee who notices how and where improvements can be
made gets the ear of his employer and is marked for promotion the power of
observation, even in cases where it is naturally small, can be developed.
God knows it and I know it
A gentleman was once visiting a
temple under construction. In the temple premises, he se a sculptor making an
idol of God . Suddenly , he saw , just a few meters away another identical idol
lying. Surprised , he asked the sculptor, “Do you need two idols of the same
God?”
“No” , said the sculptor “we need
only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage, so I am making
another one.”
The gentleman walked up to the other
idol and examined it no apparent damage was visible. Where is the damage?” he
asked the sculptor.
There is a scratch on the nose”,
replied the sculptor.
“Where are you going to keep the
idol?” the gentleman asked.
“The idol will be on a pillar of 20
feet high” the sculptor replied.
“When the idol will be 20 feet away,
who is going to know that there is a scratch on the noe?” the gentleman asked.
The sculptor looked at the
gentleman, smiled and said. “The God knows it and I know it

Quote from the True charm and power
of Vedanta
We all now take up the beliefs about
mind, soul and God. According to the universally accepted Sankya psychology, in
perception- in the case of vision , for instance-there are, first of all, the
instruments of vision, the eyes, Behind the instruments-the optic nerve and its
centers-which is not the external instrument , but without which the yes will
not see. More still is needed of perception. The mind or Manas must come and
attach itself to the organ. And besides this the sensation must be carried to
the intellect or Buddhi the determinative , reactive state of the mind. When
the reaction comes from Buddhi , along with it flashes the external world and
egoism. Here then is the will; but everything is not complete . just as every
picture, being composed of successive impulses of light, must be united on
something stationary to form a whole , so all the ideas in the mind must be
gathered and projected on something that is stationary-relatively to the body
and mind-that is on what is called the soul or Purusha or Atman.
