TIPS FOR A MANAGER
If you gather 100 experienced mangers together and ask for their advice, here is what you would hear;
1. Don’t be afraid of the phrase, “I don’t know”.
If you don’t know the answer, don’t try to bluff. If you are at fault, take the blame. If you are wrong, apologies. A wise person once said, “If you always tell the truth, you never have to remember anything’.
2. Never gossip.
If someone wants to gossip with you, politely say you are not interested. This corporate rule rings true; “When someone gossips, two careers are hurt-the person being talked about and the person doing the talking”.
3. No task is beneath you.
Don’t think you are above anything. Be a good example and take up the job-especially if the job is one that nobody wants to do.
4. Share the credit whenever possible.
Manager who spread credit around look much stronger than those who take all the credit themselves.
5. Ask for help.
If you think you are in trouble, before it gets out of had, ask someone for help-most people enjoy lending a hand. Besides saving yourself from embarrassment, you will make a friend.
6. When you don’t like someone, don’t let it show.
This is especially true if you outrank them. Never offend other as you move ahead.
7. Let it go.
What should not happen often does; you were not given the project you wanted, you were passed over for the promotion you deserved. Be gracious and diplomatic and move on. Having ill-feelings will not advance your carrier-culled from Indian Junior Chamber Training Volume-Courtesy; ‘Ideas Exchange’
It is not abundance that makes rich, but economy
HUMOUR
Like a man’s reputation.
A man once took a piece of white cloth to a dyer to have it dyed black. He was so pleased with the result that, after a time, he went back to him with a piece of black cloth and asked to have it dyed white. But the dyer answered; ‘A piece of cloth is like a man’s reputation; it can be dyed black, but it cannot be made white again.” –(East & West Series)
To know what his grandson will be!
Speaking of his ancestry Lincoln once humorsly remarked, “I don’t know who my grandfather was, but I am much more concerned to know what his grandson will be!
Goodness expands the heart
Goodness expands the heart and makes it humble. The larger and the better, the nobler your heart is, the more you will be inclined to make allowances for others.
Quote from Gita
From where will come the power to collect together the whole mind? All power is within us because the Self is the source of all power. The body, the mind and the intellect are only instruments of the Self. Using these instruments, the self is playing , as it were , a great game. Just as efficiency is lowered when the instrument goes out of order, the play of the Self too is affected when the mind and the intellect becomes impure. It is then not able to manifest its infinite power. If , however, the mind and the intellect are pure with a preponderance of serenity (sattva) , the power inherent in the self can manifest wonderfully.
I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha
