Power of Words

 

There are words of wisdom. Sincerity, courtesy, respect, appreciation,, humour, hate and tanks, words meant to destroy, words that are dynamic, gentle, and kind, delicate words, words of love, all embedded, with meaning.

Words rule our life and create results . therefore one should be careful before one speaks . when one appears before an interview board speaking to one’s higher authorities, one should weigh ones words wisely. The words should not hurt the feelings of others.

A Sanskrit poet states “Tongue makes relatives and friends, by wrong use of words one slips into an inescapable trap”

In public relations men and women are experts in negotiating and handling their client. They have the special quality to deal with persons by using polite , courteous sweet and persuasive words. They do not show any negative feelings in case they fail to strike a deal. One can master the art of good public rations to attain success in life.

One should not lose one’s temper . in a fit of temper there are chances of missing good opportunities in life even though one regrets later. It is like spilt milk.

A sociable man avoids all the setbacks of speech . he trains and controls his tongue.

Words that flowed from the tongue and pen of great men like Socrates, Voltaire, Roosevelt, Gautam Buddha, Swami Vivekananda and many other created history . Peace and harmony are the gifts of a disciplined tongue . it always better to avoid nude and harsh words at all time.

Mental Health

In order to maintain good mental health a man must be able to accept life as he finds it, to see himself as others see him, to rise above misfortune, to be comfortable n his relationships , to have a sense of humour which enables him to laugh even at himself, to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with those around him and to accept responsibility for his own action.

Remember always what the Lord says in the Gita: “That which is like poison in the beginning and nectar in the end , that happiness is declared to have the quality of goodness, being, born of the pure knowledge of the spirit . but the pressure that comes  from the connection of sense and sense objects, which is pleasant in the beginning but like poison in the end, is declared to come from passion “ We must use the power of discrimination and distinguish right from wrong. It is very easy to be carried away by our desires; but he is a true hero who can overcome them by exercising the power of discrimination.

Weakness is death. My own experience tells me that strengthen only is religion, strength is truth. Anything that makes us weak is sinful. With all our power we must avoid that. We make mistakes to learn. But after learning once, we must work with determination and never allow any weakness. This is the greatest of all works. This is best of all Yogas. How can we expect to get rest til  we have conquered all our weak desires and have become masters of ourselves? Shall we obey our sense? No; we must not . Let children follow them to get some experience of the world. But never shall we obey them. We must command them at our will. When we have become masters of ourselves we shall have no more bondage, no more fear  but peace and bliss. Now no more talking, no more reading, no more theorizing; the time ahs come for “being and becoming” On! ON! Let the world remain busy with its own concerns , but let us ward steadily onwards without looking at it even.

I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Teach Him To Learn

(Legendary American President Abraham Lincoln wrote t the teacher of his son what he expected him to teach his son)

But teach him also that for every selfish political leader there is a dedicated leader, teach him that for every enemy there is a friend it will take time, I know , but teach him if you can, that a dollar earned is of far more value than five dollars unearned. Teach him if you can, the wonder of books.. but also give him enough time to ponder over the eternal mystery of birds in the sky , bees in the flowers and sun on a green hill side”.

Extraordinary thing about kindness.

The extraordinary thing about kindness is that the more you give, the richer you become. Do a little quite thinking about people around you. Make an effort to understand them better; then take the trouble to speak words that may lift their spirit, enhance their self-respect. You can never guess what a few kind words sincerely spoken may do for them and for you.

Fruit juices were frozen and served

Three thousand years ago , fruit juices were frozen and served as  delicious dish. It was said that Alexander the Great enjoyed a mixture of fruit juices in frozen form. To make it snow was brought from high mountain peaks or deep caves.

In the 13^th century the famed traveller Marco Polo brought from China a large collection of recipes. Among them was one recipe on the preparation of ice cream.

Russia was introduced to European ice cream n the 18^th century. A whole chapter was devoted to ice cream in the Latest Complete cook book published in 1791 People began to make lemon pineapple  and variety of berry ice cream.

The aim of Karma Yoga is to teach us how by the  least expenditure of effort we can accomplish most. Now what should be the nature of our work when we follow this path? Religious teachers often tell us that in order to be spiritual we must become contemplative; but we are honest when we say that we have no time to spend to that way; so we give up all religious hope and effort. Because these teachers are unable something else which would be as helpful as contemplation . understanding this , the ancient Aryans did not prescribe just one particular method of religious training . they developed different methods suited to the varying conditions and temperaments of different individuals. In this way no one has to go contrary to his nature. These paths are four in number, with numerus sub-divines, which provide for al phases of human development and give to each an equal opportunity to realize the truth. They are the path of work, the path of devotion, the path of self-control and the path of philosophy or wisdom.

Tremendous Power of attitude.

Psychologists have always told us that attitudes can influence results . Two scientists decided to conduct an experiment to find out if attitudes could affect seeds.

Two identical cans were taken into each was purred soil and fertilizer of the same quality and quality and same number of seeds were dropped into each can. They were both placed in a green house so that they could have the same conditions of weather and temperature.

There was only one change in the experiment , all other thins being the same. Everyday, the two scientists came to the green house and standing before the first can, purred into it all the negative words which they were capable, of.

They said to the seeds , “ You are good for nothing. Nothing is ever going to come out of you and even if something comes out. It is not going to last”, and so on and so forth. Then they came and stood in front of the second can and pured into it all the positive words which they were capable of .

“You are so wonderful”, they said to the seeds and you are going to show wonderful results. It will be a sight to see what is coming out of you” and so on and so fort.

This was repeated thrice a day for three weeks . at the end of the third week, the scientists found that while there came forth only two or three shoots of grass out of the first ca, out of the second can, there came fourth whole strands of grass, so strong that they could clutch and lift up the entire can with the soil and fertiliser. Why do we worship the Kalasaha?

First of all what is kalasah? A brass mud or coper pt is filled with water. Mango leaves are placed in the mouth of the pot and coconut is place over it. A red or white thread is tied around its neck or sometimes all around . it in an intricate diamond shaped pattern. Such a pot is known as a kalasha, when the pot is filled with water or rice, it is known as Purnakumha representing the inative body which when filled with the Divine life force, gains the power to do all the wonderful thins that make life what it is.

A kalasha is placed with due rituals on all important occasions like the traditional house worming (grahpravesa), wedding, daily worship etc. it is placed near the entrance as sign of welcome . it is also used in a traditional manner while receiving holy personages.

Why to we worship the kalasa?

Before the creation come into being. Lord Vishnu was reclining n His snake bed in the milky ocean. From His navel emerged a Lotus from which appeared Lord Brhama, the Creator, who thereafter created this world. The water in the kalasha symbolises the primordial water from which the entire creation emerged. The leaves and coconut represent creation. The threat represents the love that “binds” all in creation . The kalasha is therefore considered suspicious and worshipped .

The waters from all the holdy rivers . the knowledge of all the Vedas and the blessings of all the deities are invoked in the klasha and its water is thereafter used for all the rituals, including the abhisheka, and the consecration (kumhbabhisheka) of temple .

When the Asuras and the Devas churned the milkly ocean, the Lord appeared bearing the pot of Nectar, which blessed one with everlasting life. Thus the Kalasha also symbolises immortality.

We greet Men of Wisdom with a Purnakumbha (full pot) acknowledging their greatness and as a sign of respectful and revertible welcome.

Simple remedies for cold and cough

You can catch cold on a fine summer day just by taking a dip and then having a drink of ice-cold water.

There are some time tested remedies of folk medicine.

Potatoes; They must be cooked with their skins until the skins split. Strain of the water and breathe in the steam through the narrow opening of a paper cone for 15 mintues. Two or three such inhalation siting will bring you relief from cough. In the night before going to bed. Drink a glass of hot milk, adding on it spoonful of honey

Mustard plasters are very good for cold and should be applied t both the chest and the back. In olden times mustard plasters used to be made of mustard flour mixed with water until it got the consistency of a think porridge.

Garlic : Its bactericidal properties were discovered hundred of years ago.

Begin by chewing a small piece of garlic, thus sterilising your mouth. Cut antoher piece into thin blades and smell them. If you have no garlic ready, take an onion, grate it squeeze out the juice and soak some cotton wool and smell it for 15 minutes . repeat this three times a day and your cold will be relieved

Onion ; it is an effective remedy for cough. Cut 500 grams of onions add 50 grams of honey and 400 grams of sugar and heat the mixture in one litre of water for three hours . take six tablespoonfuls of it every day.

If the cough is dry there is another tested remedy which may prove very effective. It is granulated sugar. Heat it in a teaspoon until it become brown . suck the piece every time you feel an urge in cough.

Raspberries; Keep raspberry jam ready. It is added to hot tea and drunk before going to bed to get relief from cold.

O my mind, just turn your eyes within and you will see the Lord Himself seated there. The more you dwell on Him the more you will advance in spiritual life.
