Fisherman Who Became A saint.

Monday, 17-September- 2012

Fisherman Who Became A saint.

One night, a poor fisherman stole into the garden of a rich man wanting to steal fish form the small lake. But as he cast his net into the lake, the servants, heard the sound and awakened the master. They all surrounded the lake with lighted torches and searched for what had made the sound, but the poor fisherman fast  smeared his body with ashes and sat beneath a tree with hands folded and eyes closed, pretending to be a holy man. They could not find any thief and instead were pleased to see a holy man meditating in their garden.

The next morning, word fast spread that a holy sage was staying in the garden. Many people  rushed to him with fruits and pudding , offering them at his feet . others placed silver and gold at his feet.

“How strange.” Thought the poor fisherman. “I am only an imitation holy man, yet people show much devotion to me. What would it be like if I become a real holy man?’

Thus thinking, he resolved to become a real saint. In the course of time , he became a great sage and attained the bliss of God realisation.

The old believe everything , the middle-aged suspect everything; the young know everything.

Quote from the True charm and power of Vedanta

All the great teachers have taught us the path of child-like faith and simplicity, where there is no more vanity, no more ego, but complete dependence on the Divine. Surrendering the heart, soul and body to God’s work, to God’s will , this is the way of bliss.

All are guided by His will , should we not therefore recognize Him above al things? Should we not therefore recognize Him above al things? Should we not offer all our prayers and all our thoughts to Him? At least our first thought and our last thought of every day should be for Him. Our gratitude above al should be offered for His Grace. He is all pervading he is all-mighty . He is the Giver of al blessing. Him alone we recognize and pray to for our guidance and protection. May we through His  Grace realize our Divine nature; may we feel the awakening of That without which nothing exists, That which is the source of our life, our true source of existence, That to which we must look for strength, for guidance , for all our inspiration.

Though His blessing may our remembrance of Him be constant and perpetual. May we succeed in directing our thoughts towards Him without interruption or disturbance. May we perform all our duties in this life carrying Him with us wherever we go. May we address all our prayers to Him, for He never fails to hear the prayers of His beloved children. We have no other power of right to do, except to pray to Him like little children. The rest depends on Him fully.

But, if He exists?

I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Love for other is the golden key to Happiness.

Monday, 10-September- 2012

Love for other is the golden key to Happiness.

The world is full of keys-there must be millions everywhere and people guard them like their lives and handle them with care-for it you lose your key! Well, that’s a real calamity you might be locked out of your home-and then where would you be? Look at a street of houses-there are keys to all the door…And all our problems are like doors-each one has got a key. Some work or deed will meet the case. If only we could see, the key to every situation is somewhere about –if we could rid our  minds of prejudice and fear and  doubt. Determination will unlock the doorway of success-and love for others is the golden key to Happiness.

Rules For Parents To Deal With Married Children

Don’t give advice unless asked for …. Remember they are married now!

Don’t parent them anymore, 30 years are enough. Let their spouses take care of them.

Remember your sons or daughters are their spouses now and there fore they better adjust to the ways, means, and tastes of their spouses.

Remember  they have their full life to live their own way… if you agree bless them, otherwise keep quiet.

Don’t interfere in their personal and family affairs…. Let them settle themselves.

Appreciate their every little achievement-in cooking , hobbies , etc.

If you have problems , talk to your sons of daughters , not to their spouses.

At parties, festivals, and ceremonies treat them like close friends rather than- ‘in-laws’.

About their families, don’t every ask, comment or criticize.

Grand children are their creation, so take care of them if asked for.

So if they break things , mi behave, eat irregularly, advice them as a friend.

Finally, remember you may need them later in life!

I do not hesitate to lie!

Once a to be groom found himself in a tight corner while answering a barrage of questions about his personal history by the girl’s father. Finally in an effort to emerge out successfully he said. “Look sir, I don’t smoke , drink or have any desire for opium, snuff drug etc.”

The interested father asked him naturally in an inquisitive manner. “And you don’t have any weakness in yourself”?

“Of course, I am also a human being “ the to be groom said in frustration. “I do not hesitate to lie when necessary.”

Mystery of God

Every blade of Grass, and every INSECT, ANT  and Golden BEE. All so marvellously known their path… they bear witness to the MYSTRY OF GOD. – Ancient Wisdom

Path of Love

One meets with two classes of spiritual aspirants. One of them resembles the young of a monkey and the other may be likened to a kitten. The young one of the monkey strongly clasps its mother while the young one of the cat cannot do so, but mews piteously, staying wherever it is placed by her. If the young monkey lets go the hold on its mother, it falls down end gets hurt. This is because it has to depend upon its own strength. But the kitten runs no such  risk, for the mother herself carries it about from place to place. Similarly , the aspirant who follows the pat of knowledge or the path of selfless work depends upon his won effort to attain salvation. On the other hand, the aspirant who follows the path of Love knows that the Lord is the disposer of everything , so with perfect confidence he resigns himself entirely to His mercy. The former is like the young of a monkey and the latter like the kitten.

Quote from True Charm and Power of Vedanta.

To those workers who have a philosophical bent of mind, the advice of the Gita is that they should remember that they are the Self; that it is the senses which work, impelled by past tendencies and desires. While the Self; that it is the senses which work, impelled by past tendencies and desires; while the Self which is there inner being. Their real existence, is free from all earthly contact, and transcends everything material., the impli9cation of this sublime and pregnant idea is at first caught only by the imagination; but by constantly dwelling on it, while he works, the imagination of the Karma Yogi, will at last give place in experience and he will realise the Self.

It will thus be seen that there are no watertight compartments among the different Yogas, Krama , Bhakti, and Janana may , and often do commingle with one another in the course of spiritual practice, only the temperament of the aspirant will determine which of the three is to have a dominant influence in his life.

Seven Simple Secretes To Success

Monday, 3-September- 2012

Seven Simple Secretes To Success

If you follow these principles, you can achieve success you have ever experienced.

Integrity; Firmly adhere to a code of honesty. That means not just being honest, but also speaking out against dishonesty no matter where you find it, if you speak out honestly, you make it difficult for yourself  to be dishonest..

Courage ; do what is right regardless of the consequences. To have courage, you must first think as if you are already courageous . then act courageously, which sets a tone for all you behaviour . finally pray for courage, because with God’s help , you will succeed.

Enthusiasm. Develop a passion for life. I know a vibrant lady who starts every morning by reading a thought by the American philosopher Henry David Thoreau. “None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm”.

A friend of mine told me he constantly keeps himself enthusiastic by lumping together all his disappointments, frustrations and unhappiness each night, then mentally discarding them. Like him, you should let go all negative thoughts.

Also start each day thinking enthusiastic thoughts . act as if you are the most enthusiastic person you know. And surround yourself with enthusiastic people.

Happiness . strive for contentment. I have found that happiness is based on religious beliefs. And all the unhappiness I have ever encountered has been where en and women did not live according to the precepts of Holy Scriptures.

One man at the top of his profession told me.  “ I became a genuinely happy man when I met someone who changed me deep inside. That someone was God. “

Faith ; You must believe and trust in God-and yourself . as you seek success , remember that God neve intended man. His highest creation to become a failure. Generally , the reason we do not attain more in our lives is because we do not believe in ourselves .

Hope ; expect success! When you live with hope in your heart and mind, you have found one of life’s most powerful secrets.

Live is not easy but you can rise above suffering by reading inspirational stories of people who found hope, then thinking, talking and acting hopefully. If you do, hopelessness will retreat and hopefulness; will take over.

Love : be selflessly concerned for all others. If you live with love in your heart and do all within your power to reduce human sorrow, you will become so spiritually victorious that you will rise above all difficulty and banish fear from your heart and mind.

Of course. It is not easy to love everyone. But you can develop love by trying to see the best in every one. Including yourself.

Also avoid saying bad things about others and avoid expressing disappointment to those who do not show there love.

Life is a boat We sail on, Life is a festival, We celebrate. Life is a flower, We bloom and die. Life is of God. He made them all.

Quote from True Charm and Power of Vedanta.

Why should anyone fear who is unselfish? Selfishness is the cause of all misery and fear. There is no sin for him who is unselfish. Know this and be free from al fear and care. Fearlessness is what religion teaches, and one can become fearless only through purity of thoughts and deeds. Past is dead and gone, but present is alive . so do everything with unselfishness in the present moments. Fear none, Divinity and purity are your birthright. Have faith and struggle on.

Be Cheerful But Calm

Monday, 27-August- 2012

Be Cheerful But Calm

One should be cheerful at all times. Nowhere our scriptures teach us to be pale and gloomy as also unhappy . Be cheerful at times of happiness and be equally cheerful when you are gloomy and faced with the worldly problems. While possessing a very cheerful disposition, you should also be in possession of a clam mind.

While speaking on Bhakti Yoga nearly a hundred years ago Swami Vivekananda said. “Let the mind be cheerful but calm. Never let it run into excesses because every excess will be followed by reaction. “

What open should aim at is to be cheerful all the time. However, even while being cheerful the mind should not act too much in worldly affairs. This is the real stage of bliss-the bliss which you cannot read and understand in the books but which can just be experienced by you.

The mind should always be calm, at the time of prosperity as well as adversity. The calm mind only thinks positively in any sphere wherever you want it to be taken, whether the thinking is on spiritual front, business front or family front.

The calmness of the mind should be comparable to the calmness of the sea. Calmness of the mind could be instantly achieved by an hour of spiritual reading; this is a sure and tried formula. Non-cheerfulness says  Vivekananda is not religion. Further Vivekananda goes on to say that “by being pleasant always and smiling, it takes you nearer to God, nearer than any prayer”.

Thus cheerfulness is the passport for entering the kingdom of God. By being cheerful the loss ot a person is nothing; rather unexpected dividends can be reaped.  (Better Life)

It is duty of the government to make it difficult for people to do wrong, easy to do right.

Four Constant Thoughts For Your Mind

We should pack our conscious minds with the following resolves which are useful in giving lie the right direction.

Your absolute refusal to be finally defeated by whatever adversity may come.

Your stubborn unwillingness to succumb to the temptation to be less than your best in everything.

Your refusal to lose your temper regardless of the provocation.

Your complete rejection of a spirit of resentment and bitterness.

Who created chaos?

A physician , an architect and politician exchanged words endlessly to prove whose profession was the oldest. The shrewd politician suggested that each of them should cite proof to establish his claim.

The physician said; “Eve was created out of Adam’s rib . it was a case of surgical operation. Hence my profession is the oldest.”

The architect told; “Before the surgical operation, there was chaos. Order was created out of chaos. And that was the task of an architect. Hence, my profession was the oldest. “

The politician quipped. “Who created chaos? It was defiantly the job of a politician. “

With a Pure Heart

Done with pure heart

Even little of good deed

Cannot be deemed to be minor or small.

Is not the seed of the Banyan Tree

So small to look after all?

In the name of the universal God Rama

Listen O Vemana!

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

Everything in this world is transitory and fleeting; from the highest manifestation of human life to the lowest worm all are destined to perish. No man was ever born who could stop his body from changing constantly. Body is the name of a series of changes. what remains, then, but character? Time swallows up everything except character; this is the only thing it cannot touch.

If we look back and study the history of mankind, we find that, no matter how hard the struggle may have been to live here forever, in the end all have been conquered by death. Emperors and kings have striven to build up something permanent, but in vain.  Look at the mighty Roman Empire, look at the wonderful  Greek civilization, where are they? The one has crumbled into dust, the other lies in ruins. And what has outlived them? The message of Jesus Christ , the son of a carpenter and that of he beggar Buddha, Krishna, , They are still ruling the universe. Mysterious are the ways of the Lord. Those who wanted to live have died; those who were willing to die have continued to life.

Quote from the true charm and power of Vedanta

‘He (the Self( of whom many are not even able to hear, whom many even when they hear of Him do not comprehend; wonderful is a man, when found, who is able to teach Him(the Self); wonderful is the who comprehends Him, when taught by an able teacher (man of realization.) “

Result of our Thoughts.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought; it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts, and  it therefore follows that if a man is happy, it is because he dwells in happy thoughts; if miserable , because he dwells in sad and weak thoughts. Whether one be fearful or fearless, foolish  or wise, troubled or serene, within that mind lies the cause of the own state of states.

What your thoughts are, that is your real self.

Surest way to get better movies.

Going to movies is a popular pass time. Young and old, rich and poor , literate and illiterate, all go to movies. But there are always two sides to a coin or  a picture. And the movies have also two sides good and bad. A good movie can enlighten , educate, build up character and renew faith. A bad movie can have contrary effects.

Cinema is a powerful medium of mass communication and plays a significant role in influencing the morals and behaviour of the people. It has come to be accepted as an effective method of teaching and as an aid in the development of child’s personality. Some educators even claim that the audio visual method is superior to the oral or classroom method.

However, now-a-days, children seem to enjoy complete liberty of going to any movie they like. Parents are not quite aware of this. And if they are aware, they do not seem to think of the harm which is done or the demoralising effect it can have on young, emotional and impressionable, minds of our youth by some unhealthy movies.

Movies make appear sound and shadow to be “real life”. What ever happens in our life we do not often forget. Eyes are the windows of the mind and whatever evil intentionally seen by the eyes can have an inerasable impression on the mind.

Parents always endeavour to provide proper and wholesome food for the health and nourishment of their children. But they do not equally seem to consider the moral, cultural and spiritual values for the formation of character of their children. The development of the mind depends on what we read, the company we keep, the movies we see. The movies today are becoming a major menace to the moral health of children.

Some of us should be bold enough to rise above the general level and insist on movies that shall not follow but lead the audience. Until we are prepared to take the cultural leadership in our own hands and are bold enough to risk everything in the cause of good, better and bolder motion pictures, our movies shall never rise above the level of today.

The surest way to get better movies is for everyone to patronise the best films.

Good breeding is the art of showing men, by external signs , the internal regard, we have for them. It arises from good sense improved by conversing with good company.

Freedom Springs from character

Happiness stems from truthfulness . truthfulness arises from plenty . Plenty grows from commerce. Commerce progress in freedom. Freedom springs from character. Kautilya.

Manners reveal the family; Body reveals the food; Speech reveals education and Eyes reveal kindness. –Shivapurana.

Time is the only coin of your life.

Time is the only coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent . Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.

Seven requisites for Contented Living

Health enough to make work a pleasure & Wealth enough to support your needs.;

Strength enough to battle with difficulties and overcome them;

Grace enough to confess your sins;

Patience enough to toil until some good is accomplished;

Charity enough to see some good in your neighbours;

Love enough to make your to be useful and helpful to others;

Hope enough to remove all anxious fear concerning the future.

Quote from the True charm and power of Vedanta

Our mind manifests itself in various forms; kshipta, Mudha, Vikshipta and Ekagra, Kshipta means scattered. We often find our mind in this stage when our thoughts are various and the mind jumps from one thing to another. This is a state of activity and the mind runs after sense pleasures. But no real peace or happiness can be found while it is in this scattered state. The nature of the second is dullness, inactivity , and one becomes in discriminative and injures others. Next is Vikshipta or the state in which we struggle to centralize the mind, but often without  success. When we do not find satisfaction either in the scattered or dull state of mind, then we begin to struggle for some higher from. If we persevere we reach the state of Ekagra, the concentrated or one-pointed mind. only when the mind arrives at this state do we attain to super consciousness and become free forever; the first there states are not fitted to bring spiritual realisation .But in the last stage, through the power of concentration, we can collect, we can collect all our mental and physical energies and direct them toward the highest realization.

Do something you enoy and avoid boredom

Monday, 6-August- 2012

There are people  who complain that they are bored in life. Boredom destroys your personality- your emotional, physical and intellectual characteristics.

When  you do an unpleasant task you feel  bored much easily than when you do something you enjoy. You would go off cheerfully if a friend invites you to play your favourite game of tennis which demands more energy . It is clear that any activity can be made interesting  or boring by the way you look at it. To escape from boredom you should make the first move in work or in conversation. While conversing with others ask a question or explore a subject. This will help you to stimulate your curiosity or awaken your enthusiasm. Such a situation would  release you from boredom.

If you go on asking questions – How?Why?Which? When? You may overcome boredom profitably. You may even learn interesting facts hitherto remaining unknown to you . as knowledge grows your interest too grows and you will not be bored.

A hobby is one way of cultivating a special interest in a subject . it is pleasurable pursuit for spending your spare item and preventing boredom. If you take keen interest in a fairly wide range of subjects and learn to develop proper attitude towards other people you will never be bored.

No man can be truly educated or successful in life; unless he is a reader of good books.

First Olympic Games

By relying on literary sources, inscriptions and archaeology, we can write an inspiring account of the original Olympic Games held in Greece in south-eastern Europe  on the Mediterranean Sea;

The ancient Greeks recognised fair play as a rule in sports . but the first Olympics were a super show as they are today for millions of sports fence. The contests were first described in the lliad, a long Greek poem about the Trojan War, thought to have been written by Homer in the eighth  century B.C. They included chariot-reaching, wrestling, boxing, fighting in full armour, archery, discus and javelin throwing. The Greeks also look part in a contest called. Quotes from  the true charm and power of Vedanta.

You may not know how to read a single book, but if you have known the Truth which is behind them, you are much better off than the so=-called philosopher who may speak in beautiful language but who has no realization whatsoever. It is a dangerous thing to hear the Truth from one who has not realized, for he will only bring confusion in the mind; but one who has realized  will teach with very few words. Swami Vivekananda says in one of his lectures that he who has something to give, gives it in most simple language; but one who has nothing to give, he sometimes writes two volumes to expound one word. So we see that we can gain nothing when we some in contact with such people ; they only confuse our brain.

He who has attained illumination does  not need to use many words. His life itself is an answer to all questions, for the sun of wisdom always shines in his heart. This makes one bold; before this strength all other strength is insignificant.
