from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
LEARN TO LIVE
He started living amidst these savage people
exposing himself to grave danger. It was not easy to carry on this long =drawn
struggle. Great undertakings are always taught with many obstacle=this
statement because true of Duncan’s social service. The very people whom he
wanted to serve rebelled against him. Their leaders opposed him . the businessmen
who had been fattening themselves by exploiting the people opposed him. The priests
were against him. But off these adversities he faced with unparalleled adventure,
enthusiasm self-confidence and unending struggle –singe –handed , but with
success.
His struggle bore fruit after sixty years. The Simshin
community, once notorious for their terrifyingly savage behaviors are today a
very peace loving gentle and cultured group of people . no barbaric actions are
committed by them any more . None of them drink alcohol today.
It was Duncn who declared after his experiment
and investigation the wisdom that old-die-hard
habits can be conquered with new constructive habits. In 1918 when he
was eighty six years old. Duncan breathed his last. But he remained the apple
of the eye of the Sushin community and was always held in great respect.
IF HE EXIST
I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who
spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this,
his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was
wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into
believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am
wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your
entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should
you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.-
Heaven,
Hell Your Choice
By
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev
When a
person dies, he loses his body, and his intellect or discerning mind. The
memory part of the mind, however, continues to function but only as tendencies
within him. He cannot choose anymore because he does not have a discerning
mind. Because of this lack of choice, if the memory bank is full of
unpleasantness, this unpleasantness can multiply a million times over.
For
example, right now if you get angry, you can use your discerning mind and
control it. But if you did not have this discerning mind, the anger would flare
up into madness. So, once a person has died, whatever is the content of his
mind — the moment of death is a significant part — if he has cultivated
pleasantness as the general content of his mind, it could multiply many fold
because of lack of discernment.
At the
same time, if he cultivated unpleasantness, that can also multiply many folds.
If a person gets into extreme states of unpleasantness, we say this person has
reached hell. If he has reached extreme states of pleasantness, we say he has
reached heaven. Hell and heaven are not places but different states of
experience, particularly after death.
There
is a beautiful story in the yogic lore. There was a yogi who was 84 years old
and he started telling the other yogis around him, ‘You know, I am going to die
shortly and go to heaven.’ The other yogis asked him, ‘How do you know you are
going to heaven? Do you know what’s on God’s mind?’ The yogi replied, ‘I don’t
care what’s on God’s mind. I know what’s on my mind.’
