When a women in a certain African tribe knows
she is pregnant . she goes out into the wilderness with a few friends and
together they pray and meditate until they hear the song of the child.
They recognize that every soul has its own
vibration that expresses its unique flavour and purpose. When the women attune
to the song. They sing it out loud. Then they return to the tribe and teach it
to everyone else.
When the child is born, the community gathers
and sings the child’s song to him or her. Later when the child enters
education, the village gathers and chants the child’s song . When the child
passes though the initiation to adulthood the people again come together and
sing. At the time of marriage, the person hears his or her song.
Finally when the soul is about to pass from
this worlds the family and friends gather at the person’s bed, just as they did
at the person’s birth and they sing the person to the next life.
To the African tribe there is one other
occasion during which the village sing to the child. If at anytime during his
or her life the person commits a crime or aberrant social act the individual is
called to the centre of the village and the people in the community from a circle
around the person . then they sing their song to him/her.
The tribe recognizes that the correction for
anti-social behaviour is not punishment, it is love and the remembrance of
identity .when you recognize your own song .you have no desire or need to do
anything that would hurt another.
A friend is someone who knows your song and
sings it to you when you have forgotten it, . those who love you are not fooled
by mistakes you have made or dark images you hold about yourself. They remember
your beauty when your beauty when feel ugly, your wholeness when you feel guilty;
and your purpose when you are confused.
You may not have grown up in an African tribe
that sings your song to you at crucial life transitions, but life is always
reminding yo when you are in tune with yourself and when you are not. When you
feel good, what you are doing matches your song, and when you feel awful, it
doesn’t in the end we shall all recognize our song and sing it well.
You may feel a little , warbly at the moment,
but so have all the great singers . just keep singing an you will find your way
home.

Quote from the True Charm ands power of Vedanta
Nevertheless most of us tend to judge religion-whether
subjectively or objectively- by some sort of pragmatic test, by its practical efficacy
of pragmatic test, but its practical efficacy in reference to human aspirations
and needs.
Perhaps the highest expression of this pattern
of thought was given in the epic Mahabarata . In the Santiparva of Mahabharata,
the grandsire Bhishma said Dharma is also so called because it a maintains all creatures
in fact all creatures are kept up by Dharma. Therefore Dharma is what is
capable of upholding all creatures.
Some say that Dharma is the injunction of the
Srutis. Others do not agree to this I
would not blame them that say so, Everything, again, has not began described in
the Srutis
The beauty and excellence of this definition
of Dharma is that al rational human beings of goodwill, no matter of what religion
or of no religion, can meet on this platform of universal growth, advancement ,
security and fulfilment. This much needed meeting ground of all believers and
non-believers has always been there from at least the time since Bhisma defined
Dharma in this most acceptable manner.
True religion defend this way is surely going
to help us always and everywhere. In fact if we examine Bhishma’s definition we
will be inclined to agree that growth advancement in the right direction
protection from injury and the upholding and maintenance of all , are simply not
possible without the help of true religion.
And if we analyse the real issues of our
lives, we shall find that the basic requirements are just these; real growth,
advancement, protection from injury, and maintenance , leading to
self-fulfilment.
Life is important not only because through
living alone we come to realize all its values , life si the most vibrant divine
principle that sustains the universe. The Lord says in the Gita. ‘Life in all
beings am I Reverence for all life is another name of the worship of God. But i
must not forget the divine principle that is in me also deserve my worship. How
do i do that? By not desecrating myself. By arising and awaking and not
stopping till the goal is reached. But how often we prefer sleeping to arising
dozing off to awaking standing to moving ahead. We disregard time by taking
life for grunted. We sanctimoniously delude ourselves with the thought that we
shall do better when we are better.
But, if He exists?
I drive joy There
was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for
mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One
day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he
had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not
exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am
afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes
rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I
derive 4m.
