Mind – Basis of All Evils
The importance of calm and quiet is often repeated by wise men,
it is also explicitly explained that the mind should be pure and single pointed
when it becomes steady and strong.
When the mind is disturbed by a particular thought,
its reaction is seen on the physical body . suppression of thoughts lead to
ulcers skin rash etc. Emotions like anger hatred and jealousy find an outlet in
blood pressure and other related diseases . medicines can only reduce the physical discomfort but cannot cure.
A calm mind, maintained with the aid of
meditation and prayer is the best healer for the diseases . That is why our
elders advise to meditate on the Supreme Power.
Goodness that prevails when we do not harm others
provides peace of mind, injuring others by thought word or deed is another
reason for mental imbalance. Therefore emotional disturbances should be avoided
. Swami Vivekananda rightly said that with a disturbed mind one cannot learn
Vedanta.
Suppression of the thoughts is not the giving
rise to evil thoughts is the sure way to prevent many disease. We should endeavour
to maintain calm peaceful and strong mind. Courtesy wisdom
Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
And you are the Spirit, You are neither this body nor this mind. Why should this be called the truth? Because it is invariable. Truth is that which does not change; truth is that which does not change, truth is that which not dependent, If it were dependent, it would change when that upon which it dependent changes. Look at a rainbow on a waterfall; if the sun changes or the position of the water changes your rainbow diapers . the rainbow changes because it is dependent . everything is as dependent as the rainbow as long as we live the way we are living.
Therefore, the facts of our present
existence cannot be called true, Oh, I know some of you will say, But they are relatively
true, aren’t they? Wouldn’t you say they are true under certain conditions? But
why should I use the word true to indicate something that is not true? Well ,
of course, if you cannot find any other convenient word and want to sue the
word true, I have no objection to it , but let us understand that we are using
the same word to indicate completely different things. Truth , correctly
speaking, has to have eternity about it, everlastingness. And the moment you
realize this , you have to think that it is unconditioned, independent,
limitless . Therefore, the two phrases, ‘in spirit, ad ‘in truth’ really mean
the same thing, only they draw our attention to it form two different points of
view.
You might ask, ‘Did Christ really use the word
spirit in that sense? Well, who knows in what sense he used it, and how can
anyone know? Even about the authorship of the Gospel of john there are all
kinds of doubts. But one of the characteristics of the words of illumined person, particularly of prophets and saints,
is that they have to be interpreted differently under different conditions .
their words have a tendency of revealing greater and greater depths of significance,
and it is desirable nay, it is necessary, that we reintpret their great
messages as time passes and conditions change . it we do not do this , we do
not do them pepper justice. Courtesy spiritualizing every day life
But, if He exists?
I drive joy There
was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for
mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One
day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he
had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not
exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am
afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes
rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I
derive 4m.
