Guidelines for Citizen Efficiency
1. Practice Self-Help : Establish a routine that prioritizes regular, disciplined work. Aim to work consistently for a fixed minimum number of hours each day, six days a week. This practice not only enhances personal productivity but also contributes to the overall efficiency and progress of the community. By adhering to a structured work schedule, individuals can maximize their output and foster a culture of diligence and reliability.
2. Knowledge is Power :
Education is a powerful tool for personal and societal advancement. Combat
illiteracy by encouraging adult education and vocational training within your
family and community. By equipping yourself and those around you with the
necessary skills and knowledge, you contribute to the intellectual and economic
growth of the nation. Promote a culture of lifelong learning, where education
is valued and accessible to all, regardless of age or background.
3. Cultivate Teamwork : Teamwork
is essential for achieving collective goals and fostering a sense of community.
Develop a spirit of cooperation by actively participating in group efforts and
supporting your peers. Uphold your integrity in all interactions, as trust is
the foundation of effective teamwork. By promoting mutual trust and
collaboration, you help create a cohesive and harmonious society where everyone
works together for the common good.
4. Practice Thrift : Financial stability is crucial for personal security and economic resilience. Adopt a habit of saving by setting aside at least one-twelfth of your annual earnings, equivalent to one month's income. This practice ensures that you have a financial cushion to fall back on in times of sickness, unemployment, or economic hardship. By practicing thrift, you not only secure your future but also contribute to the overall financial stability of the nation.
5. Increase Production and
Services : Innovation and efficiency are key to economic growth. Make use of
up-to-date equipment, modern working methods, and advanced tools to enhance
your productivity. By increasing your output, you not only raise your income
but also contribute to the nation's prosperity. Embrace technological
advancements and continuously seek ways to improve your work processes,
ensuring that you remain competitive and effective in your endeavors.
6 Support Indian Industries : A strong domestic industry is vital for
national self-sufficiency and job creation. Actively support and promote Indian
industries and manufacturing sectors. By choosing locally made products and
services, you help reduce dependency on foreign goods, stimulate the economy,
and create employment opportunities. A thriving industrial sector strengthens
the nation and makes it more resilient to global economic fluctuations.
7. Restrict Imports : Economic
stability is closely tied to the balance of trade. To keep money within the
country, limit the import of goods that can be produced domestically. Focus on
increasing the export of manufactured goods and surplus raw materials to build
up foreign credits. By reducing imports and boosting exports, you contribute to
a favorable trade balance, which in turn strengthens the national economy.
8. Maintain Efficient Standards :
Standardization and efficiency are essential for saving time, effort, and
resources. Strive to standardize business practices, social habits, and
disciplinary methods to achieve greater consistency and economy. Adapt
efficient policies, equipment, and practices from progressive countries,
ensuring that your work and social interactions are streamlined and effective.
By maintaining high standards of efficiency, you help create a more productive
and organized society.
9. Think and Act Intentionally : Effective governance and organizational efficiency are crucial for societal progress. Ensure that any associations, councils, or committees you are involved in operate at a high level of efficiency. Actively contribute to maintaining the effectiveness of these bodies by being intentional in your actions and decisions. By doing so, you help ensure that these organizations serve their purpose and contribute positively to the community.
From Head to Foot
The names of the parts of the human body are used in a figurative sense
in the following passage.
Mr. Ramesh is the Head of a college in his town. He has to face many
difficult situations. He cannot afford to turn a deaf ear or a blind eye to
what happens on the campus . He should be capable of nosing trouble. On
important occasions, he has to mouth
platitudes . he has many responsibilities to shoulder. Though he deals
with the student with a stern hand he has a soft heart. Often he has to stomach
unpleasant things. In the morning he elbows his way into a crowded bus. In the
evening he foots the distance home. –Prof S. Jagadishan
The Divine Journey of Krishn: Lessons in Spiritual
Liberation and Life Mastery
Krishn was born in a prison, yet the moment of his birth was nothing short of miraculous. The guards fell into a deep sleep, and the prison gates swung open effortlessly. Krishn embodied the Atman, the pure Spirit that cannot be confined by physical matter. We, too, are Spirit enclosed within the body. When we identify with the material world, we remain trapped by the limitations of the body, mind, and intellect. But by shifting our focus to the Atman, we experience instant liberation.
After Krishn's birth, his father, Vasudev, carried him across the river Yamuna to Gokul. There, he exchanged Krishn with the newborn daughter of Yashoda and Nand. Thus, Krishn's early years were spent in the loving village of Gokul, surrounded by joy and affection.
Krishn’s dark
complexion symbolizes the unknown nature of the Atman, as we are familiar only
with the material world. His blue hue represents infinity, and his yellow
garment, the pitambar, symbolizes the earth. These colors remind us that we are
Spirit clothed in matter.
Krishn played the
flute with unmatched skill, enchanting the world with his divine music. The
flute, hollow with seven apertures, symbolizes our personality, which connects
to the world through the five senses, mind, and intellect. Mastering these
aspects of ourselves allows us to create harmonious, beautiful music in life.
Without this understanding, only discord emerges.
Krishn was the embodiment of joy, cheer, and mischief. When you learn the art of living, your life becomes filled with laughter and joy, and sorrow fades away. As Krishn teaches in the Bhagavad Gita, there is no place for sorrow in life. If you are unhappy, it is because of a mistaken identification with your material self and an unwise attachment to it.
Once, while playing
with his friends on the banks of a lake, Krishn encountered the dreaded
multi-headed serpent, Kaliya, who had poisoned the water. Krishn danced on
Kaliya's heads, and the serpent’s wives soon offered their homage to Krishn.
The lake represents
the mind, polluted by desires symbolized by Kaliya. When you turn inward and
focus on higher ideals, desires dissipate, and the objects of desire naturally
come to you. The wives of Kaliya represent these worldly objects. By setting your
sights on a noble cause and working toward it, your desires are fulfilled
without effort.
Before the great Mahabharat war, both Arjun and Duryodhan sought Krishn's assistance. Krishn offered to divide his resources: one could choose his mighty army, while the other could have Krishn himself, unarmed. Arjun, given the first choice, chose Krishn. Duryodhan, pleased, took the army. In the war, it was Krishn’s invaluable counsel that led the Pandavas to victory.
As Arjun’s charioteer,
Krishn imparted the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, guiding Arjun to
overcome his despair and triumph in battle. The Gita’s teachings continue to
offer us guidance for overcoming the challenges of life.
Today, take a moment
to reflect on your own life. Let the teachings of Krishn inspire you to
reignite your passion and zest for life.
IF HE EXIST
I drive joy there was a doctor in Benaras who
spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this,
his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was
wasting 7 precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into
believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am
wasting 7 minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your
entire lifetime. I prefer to waste 7 minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should
you grudge me the 7minutes joy that I derive 4m.-
