Conscious Surrender: Embracing Arpan, Tarpan, and Samarpan
Our breath serves as a
conduit, carrying forth our thoughts, words, actions, and intentions into the
vast expanse of the universe. Simultaneously, it draws towards us guidance,
messages, and the energy needed for creative living and fulfilling our existential
purpose.
In our every endeavor,
there exists the notion of 'arpan' – an offering to the Divine. This
perspective liberates us from becoming entangled in the cause-and-effect web of
karma, allowing us to transcend mere action.
Given that all our
expressions are offerings, can we, in good conscience, offer negativity,
complaints, criticisms, or abuses to the Divine? No. Whatever we release into
the universe through our breath returns to us manifold, be it virtuous or
unvirtuous. As everything is considered 'prasad' for the Divine, we must ensure
that our offerings are only of the highest caliber – righteous deeds, thoughts,
and speech.
For the burdens of the
soul, imperfections of the body, and impurities of the mind, we engage in
'tarpan' – oblation. Similar to how we perform oblations for our ancestors,
wishing them well on their journey forward while disentangling ourselves from
them as part of the final rites.
When troubling thoughts arise, memories resurface, or we become aware of undesirable habits or vices, we perform their 'tarpan'. We visualize releasing them into the universe, offering them to the Divine for transformation, thus freeing ourselves from their grasp. 'Tarpan' serves as an unparalleled method to cleanse our subconscious minds, persisting until bothersome thoughts cease to trouble us.
In facing life's
challenges and encountering various individuals, we practice 'samarpan' –
surrendering to the Divine's will. No complaints, no brooding. Recognizing that
every circumstance and person is a manifestation of our past karma, intended to
propel us forward on our spiritual journey, illuminate our path, and guide our
actions.
The Supreme
Intelligence orchestrates all according to our karmas, with truth permeating
every molecule. Those who diligently pursue truth in their words, thoughts, and
deeds become conduits for the highest wisdom, enlightening others and providing
courage for future endeavors.
By fully experiencing
each moment, embracing its lessons, and continuously evolving, we avoid
stagnation and remain dynamic. Conversely, dwelling excessively on past events
serves only to impede progress. Therefore, the mantra of 'arpan, tarpan, and
samarpan' serves as the key to growth, evolution, and perpetual motion.
