The Practice of Japa and Meditation in the Beginning of Religious Life
Those who have just begun their religious life often have high expectations of their spiritual practice. They believe that they will immediately have a vision of God, understand every spiritual mystery, and be able to control their mind through meditation. However, this is not how it works in the beginning. The mind will remain restless and it will be all darkness. Many aspirants complain that they cannot practice japa and meditation because their mind is fickle.
Japa and meditation are practices that are meant to make the unsteady mind steady. It is an obstinate disease that requires long-term treatment. Just as a patient needs to take medicine for a long time to cure a disease, spiritual aspirants need to practice japa and meditation for a long time to control their mind.
Practice means sitting by spiritual disciplines daily at regular hours for repeating the name of the Lord and meditating, irrespective of the inclination of the mind. Even if the mind is restless or the thought of God is not in your mind, you have to keep practicing. Through repeated attempts, eventually, you will succeed. It is important to keep practicing, and with time, the mind will become more focused on God during the practice.
In conclusion, the practice of japa and meditation requires patience and perseverance, especially in the beginning of one's spiritual journey. By sticking to a routine and continuing to practice, eventually, the mind will become more steady and focused on God.
Achieving Life's Mission Statement: The Role of the Soul as CEO
Just like a CEO is responsible for ensuring that a company achieves its mission statement, our soul is responsible for achieving its ultimate purpose of reuniting with God. However, just like a company has multiple departments that need to work harmoniously to achieve its targets, our human existence also consists of a body, mind, and emotions, each with their own goals and complexities. It is the role of the soul to oversee and govern the harmonious workings of these aspects, just like a CEO oversees and harmonizes the workings of different departments of a company.
To achieve life's
mission statement, the first step is for the soul to remember itself as a part
of God and connect with the divine Light and Sound of God. This awakening
provides the strength needed for the soul to take its rightful place as the CEO
and convene a meeting with the body, mind, and emotions to remind them of their
joint mission and help them understand how each stands to benefit from it. This
meeting is the process of meditation, where the body, mind, and emotions are
stilled, and our being experiences the joy and bliss of the inner worlds.
Through a daily practice of meditation, ethical living, recognition of the oneness of God's creation, and letting His love flow from us to all in our orbit, we can take steady steps toward fulfilling life's supreme purpose. The key is to let the soul govern and harmonize the workings of the body, mind, and emotions so that we can achieve our ultimate goal of reuniting our soul with the Divine.
IF HE EXIST
I drive joy there was a doctor in Benaras who
spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this,
his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was
wasting 7 precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into
believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am
wasting 7 minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your
entire lifetime. I prefer to waste 7 minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should
you grudge me the 7minutes joy that I derive 4m.-
