Power Nap To Boost Your Memory
A recent
study in the journal of Neurobiology of Learning and Memory throws light on the
benefits of a short nap daily. It says that daily short naps of about 45
minutes to one hour can boost your memory by as much as 500 percent. According to
Sara Studte, Saarland university, (Germany) graduate student, they examined
sleep spindles, a particular type of brain
activity , which plays an important role to memory consolidation during
sleep . A sleep spindle is a short burst of rapid oscillations in the
electroencephalogram (EEG) During this type of sleep, certain types of memory content
is proverbially consolidated ( particularly, information that was previously
tagged) A short nap at the office or at school is enough to significantly
improve learning process. So wherever people are in a learning environment, we should
think seriously about the positive effects of a nap., These sleep spindles uniquely
help retention levels.
For the
study, participates were split into two groups- a nap group and a control
group. The control group watched DVDS while the others slept. It was found that
members of the nap group performed better when it came to remembering word
pairs during a performance test.
Researchers paid
more attention to the role of the hippocampus –the region of the brain where
memories are “consolidated” and a process where previously stored information
is transferred into a long termed memory storage
Although the
study does not necessarily prove that napping improves memory. courtesy wisdom
Quote from the True charm &
Power of Vedanta
Perform work
(in a spirit of dedication) to Me make Me the supreme goal(of your life); be My
devotee, from attachment and enmity to all beings such (a seeker) attain to Me
alone, O Arjuna
The laboratory
for this science of spiritual growth is life itself, with its twin arenas of
work outside and meditation within. The temple of or church or mosque outside
or the worship room within the house, properly used also provides another laboratory.
More important then these two is the laboratory of a trained and pure mind. Worship
and rituals and other religious practices from useful aids, if they are not
done as items of a state piety not done as ends in themselves, but a s means to
spiritual growth, as instruments of a dynamic spirituality , as depth education
for character. Courtesy science and religion
But, if He exists?
I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening
for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him.
One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something,
which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does
not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am
afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes
rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I
derive 4m.
