How do you Plan Your Child’s Holidays

A year long hectic schedule winds up this month. Parents as well as children heave a sigh of relief for, there is no hurried breakfasting, packing lunch, and getting  ready for offices, schools and colleges. holidays are time for relaxation. Recreation and creative activity too.

In addition to creative holiday assignments given by teachers, parents can also think of leisure time activities for kids and kids too on hour part, can undertake their dream pursuit

When you happen to listen to an inspiring talk, you entertain a wish deep inwardly that you should train your child too in a similar way. You ought to know your child’s mind and wishes to bring out an orator, a musician, artist, painter or a sportsman hidden within. It is time reflects on and then plan how best your child and you can make best use of the time available.

Admit your child into coaching centers, crash course that could initiate your child into a useful and creative activity, training in public speaking etc.

Holidays are, indeed, time for parents to mould their children into knowledgeable persons as well as humane. Pay a visit to the Home for the Aged. Orphanages, Spastic societies and make them spend sometime there. Courtesy wisdom

In the building of character, faith lays the foundation, hope builds the superstructure. Love crowns it all.

Quote from the true charm and power of Vedanta

God and man

How are God and man related to each other? Are they poles apart? Some people say they are different, but the difference is only in degree and that it is possible for them to come close to each other but what does this mean? Does this mean that man can be like God? Is that possible? Is such a suggestion not an insult to God?

It is difficult to say what God is like. He is almighty, unique, and supreme, There can be no comparison between God and man. There is nothing like God. All that exists is subservient to him.

No doubt man is subservient to Him, but does that mean that man has no will of his own? Is he like a play thing in the hands of God? To what extent can man determine his fate?
There is much debate about. Some people say man can do nothing unless God approves it. Others say man can do whatever he likes. Whatever the truth may be, the tussle between man and God is more imaginary than real. Wise people suggest that we completely surrender to God. Not that we need not work hard. We shall certainly work hard, but at the same time we shall leave everything in the hands of God. What God decides is the best for us.

How is it that some people love God. Depend on Him and are happy despite the fact that they do not get what they want? These people are honest, simple , and are happy with whatever they have. They do not blame God if they do not get what they wanted. Some of them even think it is for their own good that God denies them what they pray for.

The relationship between God and man varies from one individual to another. Each individual has his own concept of God, and it is this concept that determines his relationship with God. It is out of this concept that grows what is called religion. Religion gives people a sense of unity. It is a way that they can follow together to reach a given goal,. Loosely speaking. God is the name of that goal. It is a state that man tries to attain, hoping it will give him peace and happiness.

Religion is not magic. It is hard work, but, at the some time . it makes you feel you are getting closer to God. How does this happen? You change. And this change is in the mind. You feel you have more self-control than ever before and you are  a better individual in all respects. It is this change that makes all the difference. Are you less selfish? Do you feel more for others than you did before? These are some of the criteria by which you judge the kind of change that is taking place within you.

Religion is a commitment to being good and doing good. People will judge your religion by what you are and what you do. True religion is not in professing a creed or dogma. True religion is a science of growth –moral and spiritual

Religion is often condemned because of its sectarianism. Someone’s professes a particular religion, and he thinks his is a better religion. Not only that , he also thinks he is a superior person just because of his religion. This is not what religion is meant for religions are meant for spreading love, friendship, and goodwill. It should foster a sense of oneness. The world is one and all humanity is one. Religion should make us love and care for each other. Courtesy Vedanta in practice

But, if He exists?
I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Love and Encourage Children

Love and Encourage Children

As a teacher, you have a great responsibility in shaping children, Children a natural eagerness to know more and learn more skills. Encourage this habit by providing more interesting knowledge.
Appreciate their achievements and their success in obtaining knowledge. Success leads to further success in one subject will give them courage to take up another subject. It will give them confidence. Do not allow their enthusiasm to fade away when they fail in the first attempt. By means of love and encouragement, you can kindle their enthusiasm.
It is not working to fail. The fault lies in not working to the fullest extent, and giving up further effort. Give them chances to succeed in other directions and their enthusiasm will blossom again. The experience of failure will induce them to double their efforts.
Do not allow children to lower their targets . encourage them to secure centum and they will then score at least above 70. Never say ‘enough’ but always draw forth more from the children’s talents.
Pay equal attention to all the subjects children learn . A single hole can empty a glass full of water. A single subject which the child is not proficient can affect its total achievement and declare it as a failure. Through personal study of each problem. You can help the child to overcome this condition and blossom to fullest extent.
Pay special attention to the development of memory. In fact the faculty of memory is very strong in children. They are eager to gather more facts. If they are found to be important and meaningful they will be retained in the memory faster and longer. Otherwise they may keep the book open before their eyes and they may be even reading aloud .but they would not tick in memory. The eye the tongue, the hand and the mind have to coordinate with each other to promote attention and concentration . a burning desire to learn helps memory to grow.
Help the child to cultivate the skill of writing also, along with the sill of reading. the final test of one’s knowledge is how much the child can master and how clearly he can express it on paper even while teaching children to read effectively, train them to write on what has been read this method has an additional advantage. Writing helps to imprint facts and ideas deeper in mind while mere reading might touch only the surface.
When you observe these points in practice, you are bound to succeed in your attempts to shape the children under your care.  (Exceprtion from Baba’s speech) courtesy Sri Satya si bal vikash)
Body and mind
Nobody is so miserable as he who longs to be somebody and something other than the person he is in body and mind.
If wrinkles must be written on you brows , let them not be written on our heart. The spirit should not grow old.
Quote from the true charm and power of Vedanta
The law and Freedom never had meaning for the man who is free b. but for us it has a meaning because it is name-and-form that creates the world.
We have a place for struggle in the Vedanta, but not for fear. All fears will vanish when you begin to assert your own nature. If you think that you are bound , bound you will remain,. If you think you are free, free you will be.
That sort of freedom which we can feel when we are yet in the phenomenal is glimpse of the real but not yet the real.
I disagree with the idea that freedom is obedience to the laws of nature. I do not understand what it means. According to the history of human progress. It is disobedience to nature that the constituted that progress  it was through the higher. But even there, the conquering mind was only  trying to be free; and as soon as it found that the struggle was also through law. It wanted to conquer that also. So the ideal was freedom in every case. The trees never disobey law. I never saw a cow steal. An oyster never told a lie. Yet they are not greater than man. This life is a tremendous assertion of freedom; and this obedience to law, carried far enough, would make us simply matter –either in society, or in politics, or in religion., too many laws are a sure sign of death. Wherever in any society there are too many laws , it is a sure sign that  society will soon die. If you study the characteristics of India, you will find that no nation possesses so many laws as the Hindus, and national death is the result. But the Hindus had one peculiar idea-they never made any doctrines or dogmas in religion; and the latter has had the greatest growth. Eternal law cannot be freedom, because to say that the eternal is inside law is to limit it.
In God and freedom we began, and freedom and God will be to end, these laws are in the middle state through which we have to pass. Our Vedanta is the assertion of freedom always The Very idea of law will frighten the Vedantist, and eternal law is a very dreadful thing for him, because there would be no escape . if thee is to be an eternal law binding him all the time and blade of grass? We do not believe n that abstract idea of law.
We say that it is freedom that we are to seek, and that that freedom is God. It is the same happiness as in everything else; but when man seeks it in something which is finite, he gets only a part of it. The thief when he steals gets the same happiness as the man who finds it in God; but the thief gets only a little spark with a mass of misery. The real happiness is God Love is God, freedom is God; and everything that is bondage is not God. courtesy work and secret

Work for Harmony

 Monday, April 11, 2016

Work for Harmony
Let us all join and work for harmony in every walk of life; harmony instead of discord, rift, jealously, strife and violence; if we live n harmony, no jarring note disturbed peace of mind-relationships, and all our precious joys.
Let there be harmony of voices that make sweet melody, Let no ugly sound be heard-bickering or bitterness, the shrill and angry word; may the voices in the house be soft, soothing and refined; quiet and happy saying only what is good and kind.
Harmony ought to prevail throughout the world. Oh, may we live to see-Heaven on the Earth, Wish that it doesn’t pass off like a thunderous cloud, but turns into a reality. Every nation in the world untied, and yet free-working out their destinies in perfect harmony by sinking their differences in bottomless fathoms.
What They Say…
A feeble man says, ‘I am beating’ but a strong-willed says “Not I” The shirker, says it cant be done, the worker says ‘I ll try”… The laggard says he is weary and must drop out of the race. But a plodder says , “Keep going at a good and steady pace”
When clouds appear a pessimist predicts a rainy day . An optimist declares he sees a gold streak in the grey…
A grumbler says he’s sick of life. Work sleep , the dull routine. But a poet says, “The stars still shine, birds sing and grass is green”.
A cynic says this crazy world is rushing to its doom but a dreamer cries. ‘I see the peaks of glory through the gloom”… The doubter questions, “Where now is God? No sign of Him we perceive-and someone praying in a temple or any other holy place says “I believe”. Courtesy Wisdom
Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
In a discussion of a values, possibly we will not agree with one another . What is a value, for instance? The dictionary meaning of the word is anything we think of as important-anything that we think highly of . It may be health, wealth, political power or social standing, and so on. Each individual has his own values-not just one value; probably many values and those too ever-changing. Sweets were my highest value as a child. As I grew older and started going to school. I began to say, ‘When am I going to beat the top boy in the class?’ My values changed as I was growing.
The Hindu scriptures say that life has a twofold purpose, one abhyudaya and the other nihseyasa. Abhyudaya means rising higher. Higher and higher in physical material and intellectual terms all the time. The spirit of abhyudaya impels you not to stay tuck where you are. You never say . Oh, I have had enough. I don’t need to go further. You always go on and on and on. Life is a struggle. If you sit back and say. Oh I have had enough . Let me rest now. That is as good as death. ‘No-I will not be contented ‘
Western Theology says that in each one of us there is something called ‘divine discontent’. It urges us to go forward, to know more, to achieve higher and higher things. Something we are content with some physical comfort; but very soon we begin to say, ‘No’ this is not enough, there are other things I would like to have; Finally as you rise higher and higher, you reach a point when you feel ‘I have everything . I have achieved everything I wanted to, and Yet I am not happy. You have come to the sate of seeking nihshryasa, the highest , described in Hindu Philosophy as Self –realization or God –realization. His Ways Are Always Best

His Ways Are Always Best

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said ‘Someday, I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems and be decorated with intricate carvings. Everyone would see my beauty.

The second tree said, ‘Someday, I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the comers of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull.

Finally, the third tree said. ‘I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the havens and God and how close to them. I am reaching I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me.

After a few years of prying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. One came to the first tree and said.

This looks like a strong tree. I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter” and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy , because it knew that the carpenter would make it into a treasure chest. All the second tree, one of the other woodsmen said. “This looks like a strong tree. I should be able to sll it to the shipyard. “The second tree was happy, because it knew it was on its way to become a mighty ship. When the woodsmen came upon third tree, the tree was frightened , because it knew tha, if it was cut down , its dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, “I don’t need anything special from my tree, so I’ll take this one”, and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenter’s , it was made into a feed box for animals, placed in a barn and filled with hay . This was not at all what it ahead prayed for. The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat its dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had comes to an end. The third tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark.

The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams . then a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth, and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree.

The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree cold feels the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.

Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep . while they were out on the water, a great strom arose, and the tree didn’t think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man and the stood and said “Peace”, and the storm stopped. At this time the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and goat the third tree. It was carried through the streets, and the crowd mocked the man who was carrying it. Then , the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that, when things don’t seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Hm. He will give you great gift. Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined. We don’t always know hat God’s plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best -Courtesy –The Vision

Quote from   The True Charm and power of Vedanta

Do you remember what the Bible says, ‘ if you cannot love your brother whom you have seen , how can you love God whom you have not seen?’ if you cannot see God in the human face , how can you see Him in the clouds, or in images made of dull, dead matter or in mere fictitious stories of our brain? I shall call you religious form the day you begin to see God in men and women , and then you will understand what is meant by turning the left cheek to the man who strikes you on the right . when you see man as God , everything even the tiger, will be welcome. Whatever comes to you is but the Lord, the Eternal, the Blessed One, appearing to us in various forms, as our father , and mother , and friend, and child-they are our own soul playing with us.

As our human relationship can thus be made divine, so our relationship with God may take any of these forms and we can look upon Him as our father, or mother, or friend, or beloved. Calling God Mother is a higher ideal then calling Him father; and to call him friend is still higher; but the highest is to regard Him as the Beloved. The highest point of al is to see no difference between lover and beloved. You may remember, perhaps the old Persian story, of how a lover came and knocked at the door of the beloved and was asked “Who are you ?” He answered ‘It is I and there as no response A second time he came and exclaimed ‘I am here’ but the door was into opened. The third time he came , and the voice asked form inside, ‘Who is there?’ he replied ‘ I am thyself, my beloved’ and the door opened . so is the relation between God and ourselves. He is in everything. He is everything. Every man and woman is the palpable, blissful living God. Who Says God is unknown? Who says He is to be searched after? We have found God eternally: everywhere He is eternally known, eternally worshipped.

Then comes another idea that other forms of worship are to errors. This is one of the great points to be remembered, that those who worship God through ceremonials and forms, however crude we may think them to be , are not in error . It is the journey from truth to truth, from lower truth to higher truth. Darkness is less light; evil is less good; impurity is less purity. It must always be borne in mind that we should see others with eyes fo love, with sympathy . knowing theat they are going along the same path we have trodden. If you are free, you must know that all will be so sooner or later, and if you are fee, how can you see the impermanent? If you are really pure, how do you see the impure? For what is within, is without. We cannot see impurity without having it inside ourselves this is one of the practical sides of Vedanta, and I hope that we shall all try to carry it into our lives. Our whole life there is to carry this into practice, but eh one great point we gain it that we shall work with satisfaction and contemned, instead of with discontent and dissatisfaction. For we know that Truth is within us, we have It as our birthright, and we have only to manifest It, and make it tangible.
