The effect of ‘maya’ is powerful. With so many versions of spirituality, however, looking for ‘Brahmn’, the Supreme Consciousness, is like looking for a needle in a haystack. The present age, kalyug , was predicted to witness the downfall of dharma . To some, spirituality is a means to attract maya instead of a way to remove bondage. Then there are others who consider art superior to penance and bhakti . Yoga does not distinguish between different paths to achieve the Divine; so there is no question of debating over which path is superior. Patanjali has given forms, all culminating in yoga or union with the real self, none superior to the other. However, the various limbs or aspects are being picked up in isolation by some practitioners and propagated as the only means to achieve the Divine; we need to be aware of this and take care. All gods or devtas are forms of energies. They each go through a phase of transition and play their role in governing some aspect of Creation. They operate beyond our senses; hence the question of pleasing them with dance or drama or any physical exercise does not arise. For a yogi, entire Creation unfolds as drama. The ultimate purpose is to realise the drama and not get affected by scenes and acts. The need is to rise above karma. That’s what Krishna emphasised through his leela , not getting affected or attached with the play. This is called nishkama karma or karma free of attachment, that is, free of pain and pleasure. This is the underlying message of the Gita . Evolution in a human being is a process of constant ascent through various chakras or aspects of life, from basic needs and desires of the physical body to the highest aspect of physical creation, the arts, and finally over the self. Yoga describes chakras clairvoyantly seen as energy centres strung along the sushumna nadi which runs along the spine, in the energy body. There are seven major chakras in the body, governing all aspects of Creation for that being. The characteristics of every chakra are those aspects of life each one of us passes through in order to overcome hurdles to evolution. First is the basic instinct of food and survival: the characteristic of mooladhar chakra, located on the base of the sushumna , running along the spine. Next is swadhishthan , sexual and reproductive energy, creation at a basic level, two inches above mooladhar . Third is manipoorak , in the navel region, the centre of power, storehouse of energy. Ravana was killed when his navel was target of attack. Fourth is anahat, the centre of love and compassion — not possession or selfish emotions — located in the thoracic region. The next centre is vishuddhi chakra, the seat of art and higher forms of creativity. Clairvoyantly observed, all artists have a pronounced vishuddhi chakra, but this centre is also directly connected with the swadhishthan , and this is probably why artists tend to have greater libido. Vishuddhi , located around the throat region is the chakra governing the highest physical aspect of creation, art, definitely over and above other physical aspects of creation. Art is closest but not the highest on the path of evolution. In the last phase of kalyug a majority of us are at the level of the swadhishthan or manipoorak ; few are at anahat and even fewer at vishuddhi . Those at the ajana have experienced ananda and are now in union with the Divine, in deep contemplation, in eternal ananda .
Where does real life end and virtual life begin? The line is on on…
Samrat is a 26 yr old HR professional. On a regular day he reaches office around 10 am and logs in, going into various online communities and chat-rooms. He leaves office around 6:30pm and logs in as soon as he reaches home. He is online almost as long as he is awake. Samrat is only one of the numerous people who live more in the virtual world than in the real one around them.
Samrat knows that.” Life is hectic and it’s very difficult for me to visit and call up my friends on a regular basis. It is far easier to keep in touch with them on line, since most them are on line too. But it is true that the virtual world is becoming very real for us. We are moving away from the world around us.” he says.

I Derive Joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the ten minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine? He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha
