Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
Reincarnation and immortality
Living the life in
harmony with our spiritual ideal alone will enable us to benefit by the
privileges of a higher sphere. All that is asked of us is to perform our daily tasks
in a prayerful and consecrated attitude of mind. Then whatever the here after may
owe us will be given us. It is better to ask nothing because we cannot ask
wisely. But we can do each thing with humility, with surrendered and with the
prayer. “Thy will be done” When we do this, we are safe. Our human side always
blunders, but this human side can be brought into such absolute harmony with
the Divine that it will become permeated with Divine . Life and move in rhythm
with it.
Within us is immoral
life. When we know that , how can we fear death? Our conciseness must be
trained to dwell on the immortal part in us-that is the only way to conquer the
afflictions of this mortal life. Until we possess the knowledge of our immortal
nature, nothing can relive us permanently from the fears and miseries which
confront us. To know and to become –these alone will enable us to enter into
that other life with perfect peace and freedom.
Money and happiness
The Speaking Tree | Edit Page, India | ET
BY RADHANATH SWAMI
The role of money can’t
be undervalued; at the same time, it can’t be overrated. Most successful
business magnates don’t seem to be born with a silver spoon, and among those
who have earned that silver spoon, many don’t seem to always ascent to cloud
nine happiness, trapped as they are, in the trifling things of life. Those who
ascend to cloud nine do not always seem to stay at that position and those who
stay for long at that state don’t always seem to be running after money. It
shows there is a distant connection between how much money one has and how long
one can experience the bliss.
Often, the pain and
strain of earning and maintaining capital outgrows the happiness it can earn.
The total happiness value money can produce can only be increased when it is
shared with the causes that can bring happiness to others in need. Our
scriptures say, ‘Let no one face the misery.’ Working for alleviating others’
pain is the simple key to personal happiness, since it takes away the mind from
personal pains.
Theological writer Hosea
Ballouhas written, “Real happiness is cheap enough, yet how dearly we pay for
its counterfeit.”
According to spiritual
wisdom, real happiness is the natural byproduct of ceaseless service to God
without any ulterior motives. If we can set aside our ego, then we can truly
feel the bliss of the Soul surging in our consciousness. The experience of such
a shelter within and sharing of that shelter through an exemplary life and
practical help for others can make us truly happy.

But, if He exists?
I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7
minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his
colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting
ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The
doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten
minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire
lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you
grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.
