Power of prayer

Those who do not care for their own liberation and are ready to be born again and again only with the noble desire to help others, pray not for their own welfare but for the welfare of the whole world. Their compassionate heart bleeds for the poor, the suffering, the downtrodden; and the desire for their redemption makes these devotees sleepless. They do not hesitate to lay down their comforts, wealth and even life to help those who are tormented by sufferings of the world. They pray to God incessantly for the well being of these less fortunate people. They belong to the highest class of devotees. The Lord Himself manifests through them for the good of the world. A skeptic mind may ask. “How to pray to One whom we have never seen? What is the proof of His existence? If He is far away in heaven, how can our prayer reach Him?”

The answer is, He is not somewhere there, but very much here, within our heart as pure Consciousness. He is the ear of the ear, the eye of the eye an the mind of the mind. He is the witness of all our mental modifications. Without his presence. Our body is  mere dead matter. It is he who makes this body move and act. After creating this universe. He Himself entered into it. He is inside , outside and again . He is everywhere. He can be realized by a sharp subtle and pure mind. “Blessed are te pure in heart for they shall see God” . Kabirdas could see Him every where. He said I see Rama when I am awake, I see him in my dreams as well as in deep sleep, I see him every where. By the grace of my guru. I do not see anything other than Rama.

How to Pray?

f God is so near, then why are our prayers not always granted? The reason is perhaps we have no love for Him. Our prayers are mechanical. Just lip moments. Perhaps we are impatient and expect fast response form God. We do not have the patience of Shabari who waited for the arrival of Rama, all her life. Perhaps we doubt the very existence of God and His redeeming power. We pray half heatedly, because someone suggested or forced us to do so. Perhaps our prayers are prompted by negative emotions, such as anger, hatred greed. Etc. which may harm us, as well as others perhaps . Perhaps we are confused about what to ask for and what not to ask for.

God is merciful He is like a wish fulfilling tree. He is all knowing and all –powerful. He is the embodiment of love and compassion, and is ever ready to help us. Since He has created us, it is His responsibility to protect us. Out of concern and love for His children. He incarnates on this earth in every age. He will certainly grants our prayers. Provided we make them a little effective with true devotion and lover for him.

Weird and wonderful Inventions

For every invention that has been a success, there are many more that have been failures. The great age of crazy inventions was the nineteenth century when inventing things became many people’s favorite hobby.

Some inventions have no chance of success because the inventor has not understood the scientific principles behind them. Others are simply fights of fancy, designed for fun.

In the fifteenth century, the artist Leonardo da Vinci made drawings of many machines. Including tanks and flying machines. Long before they were actually invented.

A perpetual motion machine is a machine that keeps going without a battery or motor. Many inventors have tried to build one, but it is actually impossible.

The Italian Coiuncil Cparoni built several huge aero planes. The largest was the Ca60 which had nine wings and eight engines. The Ca 60 crashed just after take off on its first flight in 1921

The Sinclairc5 was a tiny electric car. It was designed in the 1980s for cheap travel around town. However, most people thought it was too dangerous to drive.

William Heath Robinson was a cartoonist who drew very complicated machines that were completely useless.

In 1942 English inventor Geoffrey Pyke designed an iceberg airstrip on which aircraft could refuel n the Atlantic Ocean . the airstrip was never built because it was too expensive. Courtesy wisdom

Wisdom 

The word wisdom implies something more than knowledge. We may have knowledge of something, but if we do not know how, where and when to use it, that means we lack wisdom. Sri Ramakrishna used to give the following example. We all know there is fire in wood. That is knowledge. But this knowledge is useless if we do not know how to light a fire from the wood and use that fire in cooking food. If we know that, then we are wise.

Wisdom then is something more than knowledge . it has its roots in knowledge all right, but it is  something more. If knowledge and yet make mistakes about the fundamental things of life. On the other hand, wise people may not have much knowledge, but they are sound in their judgment and they seldom makes mistakes. There are scholars who are unscrupulous and can do anything for selfish reasons. Is scholarship good if it is used to hurt others?

Knowledge is power. But is it a power for good or for evil? Often it is for evil. Look at the aborigines, all over the world. They are innocent people, though shy and ignorant by our standards. But how they have been exploited over the centuries! They are now on the verge of extinction, or they are preserved only as show –pieces. What a price they have had to pay, and are still paying, for our so-called civilization! They history of civilization is the history of the exploitation of the weak by the strong. of innocent people. The nation who lead the world today are powerful, ruthless, and unscrupulous. They do not worry about the means. By hook or by crook they get what they want. And they are not ashamed of the ways and means they employ

The rise of colonial powers makes an interesting study. Greed combined with enterprise and superior knowledge of the military are made some nations go round the world looking for loot. They robbed one nation after another taking advantage of their weakness. Some of those victimized countries were superior in many ways but they were not strong enough to meet the on slaught of the marauding nation. Often the marauding nations came with the apparent intention of trading , but their real intention was to annex those countries. Then, having once captured power they treated the people as salves

This is what happens when knowledge is divorced from wisdom it makes us arrogant, unscrupulous, and aggressive. We exploit the weak, and gain what we want by any means possible. We are rash and thoughtless in our actions. we have no self-control , so we are carried away by our passion, brining more harm to ourselves than good.

A wise person on the other had, is thoughtful and never does anything without giving due thought to the consequences. He has full control over himself. He is conscientious and never hurts anybody except under extreme provocation. And if he has to hurt , he hurts with moderation and great sympathy . His knowledge of things may be limited but he uses that knowledge only for the good of others and never for their harm. The difference between knowledge and wisdom then is that while knowledge means merely having something, wisdom means having something and putting it to good use. Curtsey Vedanta in practice

To weed out inferiority complex

Those who tend to believe that they are culturally socially and intellectually inferior should, first of all, give off their inferiority complex. Though it might be deep rooted , it should be possible to weed it out. Of course it is not so easy as throwing away an unwanted article. Our first and foremost duty is to develop confidence in our own immense power, which is latent. In the past seers and men of spiritual insight said that behind the apparently limited powers of man are hidden unlimited mysterious powers. If only we have the power to recognize them. Today psychologists are reaffirming this fact with the help of their experimental observations. To arouse these powers, nothing more than self-confidence is required. We should strive to rise from the state in which we are right now. We should gradually attain success, scaling each step through effort.

Whatever negative attitude we might have developed that weakens us should be curbed. We ought to develop a technique to strengthen our self-confidence. This of course is not something that can be accomplished in a single day. Though it may appears impossible in the beginning patience and sustained effort will help us to overcome difficulties and to gain confidence. Confidence is nothing but the feeling of assurance that deep within us there is a store of abundant energy waiting to be unfold. The lack of this assurance leads to anxiety, fear, doubt, inefficiency and all kinds of debility and weakens. This self confidence enables us not to crave for the mercy of the influential and the powerful. Prevents us from developing a sense of raging hate saves us from dejection and gives us the inspiration to become self-reliant. The urge to utilize every opportunity and succeed in life proceeds from this very spirit of self confidence.

Swami Vivekananda said that it is a great sin to believe that one is a weakling and sinner. If we have to believe we are all his parts and we share with Him His unlimited energy and His unlimited sense of bliss. These words emanated from A seer who has witnessed divinity and limitless energy latent in man. Those who strive to translate this into action, even to a little extent, will realize the energy and strength that we can draw upon through imbibing this belief. Courtesy wisdom

We have seen that true religion is the very backbone of true education. the young men and women who have received such ideal education enter the married life with developed body and restrained mind, with a sense of trust and faith, which are said to be secrets of even physical enjoyment . Success follows them wherever they go.

But those who did not observe purity of character duet to lack of religious training enter the married life without faith and with a sense of guilt and suspicion. They will have slender chances of making happy homes before these have even been built, they will be on the way to breaking up. And out of such broken homes comes the board of children who cause endless troubles to the teachers at school police  everywhere. Further, the parents own personality beings to shrink, atrophy and harden. To weed out inferiority complex
