Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
A view of Vedanta

20 Most Inspiring Quotes About Time - TimeCampSo you can see that when it came to religion. I did not find that I had to reject anything in Vedanta. I have practised ritualism and found it quite satisfying i have practiced meditation and found it quite satisfying. I have absorbed myself in devotional attitudes. I have found that , too, quite satisfying . I have also practiced the path of janana or reasoning a great deal and I have found that, also quite satisfying , I have become absorbed in ACTION and I have found that satisfying too. In other words from my own personal experience I have been convinced that all paths are equally fruitful for all equally spell for me the same truth the same monism. I have not , there fore, seen any contradiction in following a variety of paths.

Yes this is the great game . Something is there because of which the one reality appears as manifold. But i am not convinced that the individuals in this manifold difference in the quality of Divinity that they manifest. in this , all are the same . There are difference but they are differences of kind only . For example there is a kind of consciousness. Let us say tree consciousness, which is different from human consciousness, but it is equally effective, equally great. I can imagine also along the same train of thought, that there is a kind of consciousness known as stone consciousness which is equally as important , as significant , and as high as human consciousness or as ANGELIC consciousness- it is just different in kind. As long as I am completely identified with human consciousness or tree consciousness or lion consciousness, but if i could become pure consciousness, separating myself form the human ingredients in me. I could then identify myself with any type of consciousness and perceive it intuitively, directly. I myself have known some who have done that, and they say that tree consciousness, for instance , is an equally high state of consciousness , but completely different from human consciousness, but completely different  that when the hour passed in which their consciousness was beyond the limits of its own kind of knowing and they had indentified once more with human consciousness, they could not express what they had experienced in that state of elevation in terms of their human existence.

Prayer is an earnest hope or a wish, a request for help or expression of thanks made to God. Petition is the kind of prayer that begs for determinate objects. Supplication is when things sought are indeterminate. Obsecration is a solemn adjuration, asking a favour. Thanksgiving is the returning of thanks for benefits received.

Positive Inspirational Quotes for People with Depression ...Among all the means of salvation recommended by Jesus Christ in the Gospel, the first place is given to prayer. “Cry to me, and I will hear you. Call upon me and I will deliver you. Ask and it shall be given to you. Seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.” Prayer is a source of strength.

By reading and meditating, we learn a lot, but by prayer, we obtain the grace to do it. Worldwide, the tradition of prayer has been a source of immense faith and strength. Brahma got the Gayatri Mantra, by akashvani, divine voice. It is said that because of this, Brahma got the power of creation.

The holy rosary of Mother Mary is a profound and meaningful form of prayer. Therein we contemplate the central mysteries of Christian life — the redemption of humankind through the incarnation, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s son born of the blessed Virgin Mary. The rosary is a powerful form of traditional prayer; it involves our whole person.
Louise L. Hay Quotes (Author of You Can Heal Your Life)
The rosary employs repetition, an essential element in the language of love. As a result, we identify with our Lord and his blessed Mother by applying their saving deeds to our own life with its joys, sorrows and triumphs.

One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. War Is Not A Solution

Image result for war is not solution quoteRAHUL SIDDHARTHA KISS is promoting peace through effective policy-making. The US-based 18-year-old interacted with THE SPEAKING TREE in Delhi recently

How can diversity be promoted as something positive?

Diversity is present in a lot of countries; it’s just that policy, issues, tensions and mistrust lead to a lot of ugliness. But it’s not the same in all places. Some societies are managing diversity better. For instance, in the US, relations between whites and blacks are much better today than they were in 1960s.At one point, there was a lot of tension between Serbians and Croatians. Today their relations have improved, but in some places, things have gotten far worse. There are radical ideologies sprouting up that weren’t there earlier. For instance, Kabul of the 1960s was much better than Kabul today. We also have to look at economic persecution of groups and at how economic policies can be made to integrate local populations. It’s all about knowledge, research and learning, so that we can provide policies that can have impact on different countries of the world.
Image result for war is not solution quote
How can we connect hyper-nationalism and hyper-localism to the idea of universal brotherhood for common benefit?

The more prosperous the world is, the better it is for everyone. We are not promoting nationalism or globalism. But war between countries is not good, so one way is to promote peace and free trade. Get countries to carry out trade rather than leave them in isolation. Our focus should be on improving the life of people. Through research, if we find that it is better to grow a global nationality, then we should work towards it. It is only after extensive study that such a step should be taken; it’s really looking into the future. People can be proud of their nations and still be able to work with other countries. We are trying to figure out what will succeed. What will make them work with each other rather than fight each other?

Does cultural identity promote mistrust?

Related imageIt depends on which group you identify with. People identify with groups, and groups compete. Earlier, groups were basically tribes that competed with each other for resources. Most neighbouring countries have had histories of wars and violence because they are competing with each other. In the animal kingdom, you find packs that hunt together. When there is lack of trust between two groups, they fight. There are left-wing groups and right-wing groups with different opinions. In a paper on making America great again, I wrote that respecting other cultures and working with them and learning from them, and at the same time respecting its own identity is what will make America great again.

Image result for war is not solution quoteWe are not robots, we have emotional feelings; people love their children more than other people’s children and they also love their country more than other countries. You can’t take away these emotional feelings, but you have to complement these ideas; you respect your country, so respect other nations and learn from them. We can work together. The golden rule is to respect and not de-humanise other people. Balance is the key; all great philosophies talk about balance.

To not get rid of differences and still be able to work together, it is imperative to know that dialogue is important and knowledge is power. Patience, too, because things take time. If dialogue doesn’t work, then what is the alternative? War is no solution at all; it only creates orphans, loss of lives and livelihoods; it is slaughter.

Mission Possible?

The San Francisco-based Rahul Siddhartha Kiss is of Indo-German-Hungarian- American descent. He was born and raised in Silicon Valley. When he turned 16, he founded Global Thought Inc, a platform for dialogues and conversations that must be heard — but which are not getting adequate attention.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

Non-violent communication helps us reframe how we express ourselves, says MARSHALL B ROSENBERG

I believe compassion is our n a t u r a l state of being — that it’s natural to feel joy in giving and receiving from the heart. Accordingly, for most of my life I’ve been preoccupied with two questions: What happens to disconnect us from our compassionate nature, leading us to behave violently or exploitatively? And conversely, what empowers some to stay connected to our compassionate nature even under the worst circumstances?

While studying factors that affect our ability to stay compassionate, I was struck by the crucial role that language can play. While we may not consider the way we talk to be ‘violent,’ words often lead to hurt and pain towards ourselves or to others. That’s because so many of us have been trained to speak in terms of moralistic judgements, evaluations and labels that disconnect us from compassion.

I have since identified a specific approach to communicating — called Non-violent Communication (NVC) — that leads us to give from the heart, connecting us in a way that allows our natural compassion to flourish.

Our Natural State

NVC guides us to reframe how we express ourselves and how we hear others.

Instead of habitual, automatic reactions, our words become conscious responses based firmly on awareness of what we perceive, feel and want in that moment. Within the framework of NVC, we’re led to express ourselves with honesty and clarity, while simultaneously paying others a respectful and empathic attention. In any exchange, we come to hear our own deeper needs and those of others. NVC trains us to observe carefully, and to specify behaviours and conditions that are affecting us. The form is simple, yet powerfully transformative.

Focus Attention

There is a story of a man on all fours under a street lamp, searching for something. A policeman passing by asked what he was doing. “Looking for my car keys,” replied the man, who appeared slightly drunk.“Did you drop them here?” enquired the officer.“No,” answered the man, “I dropped them in the alley.” Seeing the policeman’s baffled expression, the man hastened to explain, “But the light is much better here.”Like this story, I find that my cultural conditioning leads me to focus attention on places where I am unlikely to get what I want. I developed NVC as a way to train my attention on places that have the potential to yield what I am seeking.

The use of NVC does not require that the persons with whom we are communicating be literate in NVC or even motivated to relate to us compassionately. If we stay motivated solely to give and receive compassionately, and do everything we can to let others know this is our only motive, they will join us in the process, and eventually we will be able to respond compassionately to one another.

I’m not saying that this always happens quickly. I do maintain, however, that compassion inevitably blossoms when we stay true to the principles and process of NVC.

To arrive at a mutual desire to give from the heart, we focus the light of consciousness on four areas — referred to as the four components of the NVC model. First, we observe what the others are saying or doing that is either enriching or not enriching our life. The trick is to be able to articulate this observation without introducing any judgement or evaluation.

Next, we state how we feel when we observe this action: are we hurt, scared, joyful, amused, irritated? And thirdly, we say what needs of ours are connected to the feelings we have identified. An awareness of these three components is present when we use NVC to clearly and honestly express how we are.

For example, a mother might express these three pieces to her teenage son by saying, “Felix, when I see two balls of soiled socks under the coffee table and another three next to the TV, I feel irritated because I am needing more order in the rooms that we share in common.”

She would follow immediately with the fourth component — a very specific request: “Would you be willing to put your socks in your room or in the washing machine?” This fourth component addresses what we are wanting from the other person that would enrich our lives or make life more wonderful for us.

Thus, part of NVC is to express these four pieces of information very clearly, whether verbally or by other means. The other part of this communication consists of receiving the same four pieces of information from others. We connect with them by first sensing what they are observing, feeling and needing; we discover what would enrich their lives by receiving the fourth piece — their request. As we keep our attention focused on the areas mentioned, and help others do likewise, we establish a flow of communication, back and forth, until compassion manifests naturally: what I am observing, feeling and needing; what I am requesting to enrich my life; what you are observing, feeling and needing; what you are requesting to enrich your life.

Observe Your Feelings

● The concrete actions we observe that affect our well-being
● How we feel in relation to what we observe
● The needs, values, desires that create our feelings
● The concrete actions we request in order to enrich our lives The essence of NVC is in our consciousness of the four components, not in the actual words that are exchanged.

Applying NVC

When we use NVC in our interactions — with ourselves, with another person or in a group — we become grounded in our natural state of compassion. It is, therefore, an approach that can be effectively applied at all levels of communication and in diverse situations. Some people use NVC to create greater depth and caring in their intimate relationships. Others use it to build more effective relationships at work. Still others use this process in the political arena. Worldwide, NVC now serves as a valuable resource for communities facing violent conflicts and severe ethnic, religious or political tensions. (The author was the founder and director of the Center for Nonviolent Communication till his death in 2015.)

Every Day is a Celebration

The Speaking Tree  India | ET
By SANT RAJINDER SINGH

Image result for Everyday is a Celebration quoteSome of what happens to us each day is God’s will. We also have free will to choose, and we can make choices that are going to be beneficial to us and those around us. Our journey in life is a process of evolution of the soul.

Sooner or later, the soul is destined to return to God. The end goal that God has for us is that we attain this freedom. At the right moment, we get a helping hand when we think all is lost.

Related imageErnest Shackleton dreamed of crossing Antarctica by dog sled, a 2,100-mile journey. Shackleton and his team began the journey. Unfortunately, the boat taking them to Antarctica hit an ice pack and sank. Luckily, the men survived, but they found themselves in waters with drifting ice floes.

The nearest land was 200 miles away. The nearest human outpost was 1,200 miles away. They salvaged a one-ton lifeboat that they pulled with them, crossing from one ice floe to another. When they reached an area that did not have any more ice floes, they got into the lifeboat, but the waves were often 90-feet high.

Somehow, they made it to an island of ice, which had never been crossed before. It took them seven months to reach civilisation.

Image result for Everyday is a Celebration quoteWhen they finally arrived, they told their friends that they felt the presence of an unseen power guiding them on.

The beauty of God’s unseen hand is that sometimes we actively pray for help and receive it, but there are many times when we do not even ask for help, and help comes anyway. These times are reminders to us that we are not alone.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

Protected by grace

The Speaking Tree India | ET
By Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

When Draupadi was being disrobed in public, Krishna was not present. He was not even aware of Draupadi’s predicament.

So how was she saved? Krishna faced a crisis in Dwarka. Salva, a king who held a grudge against him, had ransacked Dwarka, killing and burning everything. So he was not aware of the happenings in Dwarka.

How then was Draupadi miraculously rescued? For Grace to function, I need not be mentally aware of what is happening to you. A certain investment of energies is made; it takes care. If one wishes to be aware, it’s possible.

But most of the time one does not wish to be aware because too many things are happening. These energies will lubricate the passage of life for you. And if you are open to it, it happens even unasked.

For the unreceptive, it will not work, even if you are wealthy and powerful. If you are not open to Grace, everything will come to naught. You are like a machine. Without lubrication, you are stuck.

I think it is Udhava who asks Krishna, “In many situations I have seen you and doubtless you are a divine manifestation.

You are definitely no ordinary man. But why is it that you can’t handle these problems just like that (snaps his fingers) for people? When somebody is struggling, why can’t you just do that?” Krishna said, “Nobody can work a miracle unless the recipient is in full faith. So don’t expect such things when people are not receptive”.

The Spirit of Inclusiveness

The Speaking Tree | Lifestyle | ET

By Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

Image result for The Spirit of Inclusiveness quoteEducating yourself fundamentally means to broaden your horizons. From being in limitedness, you want to enlarge yourself. Increasingly, in large cities worldwide — in India as well — even two people are unable to live together. They have separate homes and meet during weekends. We are becoming so exclusive that loneliness has become a big problem.

Image result for The Spirit of Inclusiveness quoteGypsies live a completely different kind of life. They have a different attitude that is considered romantic and, in some ways, very beautiful. Once a gypsy was scolding his son, “You good-for-nothing fellow, if you don’t learn some magic and jugglery to make a living, I will put you in school and make you an educated man and then you will suffer from endless want.” This is what education has done to people: endless want. The more educated societies are becoming, their wants are becoming unbelievable. Soon, an individual will want a separate planet for himself to dig up resources. All of us cannot live on one planet. It is not information that damages people, it is the way you gather it and the way it is given, and with what context. Inclusiveness is disappearing from society. The whole dimension of spirituality means ‘all inclusiveness’, not exclusiveness. Inclusiveness is life. Exclusiveness is death.

Related imageToday, education is just about survival. But it should be about broadening your horizons. We want to produce not just loving wonderful adults, we want to produce very resilient adults. If you put him in hell, he will slowly convert it into heaven.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

Continence is another virtue which is essential for the practice of any from of Yoga. The man who is chase in thought, word, and deed is free from many of the troubles which a slave f passion brings upon himself. His continent habits enable him to store an amount of mental energy which can be easily diverted to the building up of his higher life. A common method employed by spiritual aspirants throughout the ages, for overcoming their passions has been the infliction of various forms of austereness on the body which the all-loving st Franci of Assisiused to call “Brother Ass” The body undoubtedly exerts considerable influence over the mind; but as all the great mystics were not slow to realise, mortification, however rigorous of the body alone is not sufficient to bring the mind under control. On the contrary, a healthy body is generally a prerequisite for a healthy mind. Only the man who has come to know even partially , his divine nature and whose mind, as a result of such knowledge, has undergone complete transformation can be perfectly chaste in though world and deed. Others will have to struggle and be on their guard against the passions until they acquire such knowledge in the fullness of time. One thing is certain-that in the practice of any difficult virtue like continence as in life itself. It is always better to emphasis positive thoughts in preference to negative ideas. “If you go towards the East. As Sri Ramakriahna used to say “you are so much farther from the West” The more ne acquires genuine love for God or Truth, the safer is one from the influx of base thoughts. Endless Work

The Speaking Tree   Lifestyle | ET
By MURALEEDHARAN APPATH

Image result for endless work quoteWork is synonymous with life. It is our identity, giving meaning and purpose. However, certain undesirables too accompany. Firstly, work is endless. The more we do, the more it grows. Like a whirlpool, it sucks us deep. If somehow it recedes any time, we hit a deadend and boredom sets in, indicating addiction. Secondly, if the results are not as per expectations, it upsets us a lot. Failures cause mental agitations, disappointments and disillusionment. Third, there are unknown factors like exact outcome of the effort, our being around to see the results and the uncertainty of good results obtained. Clarity of purpose, moderation and interests in other areas can counter the first. Refraining from ‘nishidda karma’, prohibited action and performing ‘kamya karma,’ self-seeking action and ‘niskama karma,’ selfless action in right proportions have the potential to stand against the second. However, for the third one, we have no option but to look beyond. Doing so becomes a necessity to maintain sanity.

Image result for endless work quote
No work can stand up to the uncertainty, to the unknown factors in life. Only God-remembrance can. Therefore, the key is to incorporate Godremembrance, a new benchmark, in all our activities with a holistic approach. This ensures that we are unaffected by the pros and cons of work on the one hand, and on the other, the activities so undertaken are transformed to be enablers for God realisation in due course, in line with the theory “As you think so you become”.

Quote from the True charm and power of Vedanta

Image result for endless work quoteThe Karma Yoga is a method by which we can get greater results by less use of our energy. The majority of people in every country waste their energy is unnecessary rush and worry for the results. They shatter their nerves and suffer from nervous prostration. The lack of self control and nervousness they will overcome if they understand the secret of work as well as the laws of action and reaction, or of cause and sequence, if they understand that every action must bring its result , whether we worry over it or not. What a great saving it would be, if instead of wasting that energy in worry. We could devote it in doing other works and let the results take care fo themselves! We must do our best and stop there. After performing our best, we cannot do anything better. What is the use of worry? If we lvie in this way , we should be great workers.

Aging Gracefully

Monday, 22, September 2014
Aging Gracefully
Ageing is a natural process . Accept this fact and make the best of it at every age and stage.
Here are few tips:
Make use of your time. Put your wisdom, experience and your capabilities to good use. A community always needs volunteers for teaching children, narrating them stories from our classics, the Panchatantra, the Mahabharata or the Ramayana. It is a wonderful way of passing on some wisdom and getting joy. The enjoyment is on both sides.
Develop a hobby , something you enjoy doing, for the sake of doing . writing , painting, paying, gardening or music are some subjects.
Don’t be back seat driver, allow your children to use their judgement and choice, instead of constant interference and advice.
When they need advice an ask for it, then do give it. Only then it is valued accepted.
Be generous in your behaviour, in your actions , in your thoughts. When you forgive someone,  you are doing yourself a service.
Many physical problems stat in the mind. When we hold a grudge, it makes us sick. It harms us more than them.
Don’t be a grumbler . look at what good in a situation, instead of what was wrong. Some of us are always gloomy and spread gloom. Regular exercise. Even if you have not done it before, it is never to lat to start and the benefit starts from day one. A morning walk is most refreshing.
Smile a little more. It adds beauty to your face. Do look god and feel good. Every age has its beauty and charm. There is nothing more beautiful than the sight of a well turned out grandmother or a grandfather. (Courtesy : Better Life)
Reading
For general improvement , a man should read whatever his immediate inclination prompts him to; though if he has a science to learn, he must regularly and resolutely advance . what we red with inclination makes a stronger inclination. If we read without inclination half the mind is employed in fixing the attention so there is but half to be employed on what we read. If a man begins to read in the middle of a book, and feels an inclination to go on, let him not quit to go to the beginning  He may , perhaps not feel again, the inclination.
Nature creates merit, and fortune brings it into play
Method and dispatch govern the world
Quote from the true charm and power of Vedanta
And you become strongest when  you surrender all your strength to that great breeze of Grace that blows all the time. For He alone is; we are only just a spark of that divine fire. We have not to ru after, to pine after, Divine Grace; we have only to become grace-worthy. And that grace-worthiness if what one gets by achieving manliness through a life of self reliance, hard work, and struggle ot develop character strength. This takes us closer and closer to that final spiritual revolution in total self-surrender=praptti or sarnagati
When the mind is dominated by nature’s powers of tamas and rajas, sarangati or self-surrender, if practised, will not be genuine. It is best then to practise purusakara, or self-reliance, accompanied by a general feeling or devotion and dedication to God. But, when the mind rises to the level of sattwa, or even satwa –dominated rajas, it gets the capacity for self-surrender and the appreciation of Divine Grace. It is at this level that bhakti shines at tis purest and best, and human life reaches the level of spontaneity, naturalness and effortlessness. The Srimad Bhagavatam gives a beautiful picture of such a life, in its exposition of the nature of Bhagavatttama, the best among the devotees , by the Navyagindrss
‘He is the best among the devotees of Hari(God) , who sees the Blessed Lord as the Self in all beings (Shiva),and all beings in the Blessed Lord as their Self
