30 Ways To Live A Life Of Excellence

Monday-July 4-2011

30 Ways To Live A Life Of Excellence

I’ve always been passionate about living a life of excellence. Setting goals, overcoming challenges, getting results, celebrating the victories - these make living so rich and worthwhile.

When I was in college I was on the Dean’s List - an honorary roll awarded only to top students - in every academic year I was there. When I graduated I was selected from over 1,000 applicants to enter a Fortune 100 company - one of the top 100 companies in the world recognized by Fortune. Then when I quit to pursue my passion a year and a half ago, I started The Personal Excellence Blog to share my best advice to achieve excellence in life.

In the last year and a half I also founded my training school where I coach and train others to achieve excellence. Life has never been more rewarding. That being said, I have determined that excellence itself is a way of life, not a destination. While I’ve made some accomplishments, I’m nowhere near where I envision myself to be in the future. There’s always room for personal growth. Our potential is limitless, and it’s up to us to tap into it.

Here are my top 30 ways to live a life of excellence:

1. Discover your purpose. – Our physical life started when we were born. Our real life starts when we discover our purpose. What is your purpose? What is your mission statement for your life? Mine is, “To touch others’ lives, help them achieve their highest potential and live their best lives.” This one statement gives me clarity and focus on what to do, from my daily plans to my long-term goals.

2. Follow your passion. – To do what you love is truly the only way to live. Don’t just pursue as a hobby; turn it into your career. I didn’t use to be a personal development blogger or a coach. I was a marketing major and I was working in brand management as a career. However, it wasn’t my passion. So a year and a half ago, I quit my regular job to pursue my real passion. Despite having no experience in the personal development industry, I slowly carved my niche in this area and established myself and my expertise. Today I’m pursuing my passion as a career, and loving it.

3. Set your goals. – If you can have whatever you want, what would you like? What are your biggest goals and dreams? Set them. The life I’m living today is a result of goals I set in the past. If you don’t set any goals, it’s safe to say that you’ll be running in place for the foreseeable future. Is that what you want?

4. Create a life handbook. – A life handbook is a concept I created where you have a book to write your life purpose, goals, dreams, plans, values, mottos, and other things that are important to you as you pursue your best life. I started my life handbook in 2007 and it has been my #1 tool to living my life to the fullest. Learn more about my life handbook and how to create yours.

5. Have the right mindset. – The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your thoughts. If you think life sucks, life will indeed suck. On the other hand, if you are set to live your best life, the paths will open up in front of you. Maybe it’s all the ‘good triumphing over evil’ RPGs I’ve played since young, but I firmly believe that where there’s a will, there’s a way. No one can stop you if you have the right mindset.

6. Create your bucket list. – A bucket list is a list of things to do before you die. All of us are going to die one day. What are all the things you want to do/see/say/experience before you die? It can be seeing the world, living your dreams, going skydiving, falling in love, among countless others. I created my bucket list last year with over 100 things, and every day I accomplish what’s on it and add new things I want to do. Here’s a list of 101 Things To Do Before You Die for ideas on what to put in your bucket list.

7. Get mentors. – You have dreams and big visions, and there are people who have likely been there and done that. Get them to mentor you. It’ll definitely cut down the learning curve and ease your journey. With a mentor, you can unlock your potential and achieve so much more.

8. Stop worrying so much. – The majority of our fears exist only in our head. Get rid of them and spend the energy on something productive.

9. Get closer with your parents. – Many of us only have functional relationships with our family. Some of us might even have estranged family relationships. I know I used to have that, then I realized it was foolish. Our parents went through a lot of hardship by bringing us up, and no one’s ever going to share a connection to us the way they do. Today I’m much closer to my parents than I was in the past, and I’m grateful for that.

10. Let go of negative friendships. – If you have friends who discourage you and pull you down, it’s time to get rid of them. Getting rid might be too harsh for some, so distancing is a good alternative. I had several negative friends in the past, then I just reduced contact. Instead of wasting time and energy resisting them, I was then able to focus my energy on people and things that make me happy.

11. Surround yourself with positive people. – Do you know you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with? Your attitudes, beliefs, accomplishments and success are a function of the people you spend time around. Think about the people who inspire you and spend more time with them. You’ll be amazed at the effects they’ll have on you.

12. Release your limits. – They say the sky is the limit. I disagree. We are our own limits. It’s then about releasing our limits so we can live our best lives. What are you limiting yourself from doing? Stop holding yourself back. Go out and get what you want.

13. Believe in yourself. – The majority of the times I’ve been able to achieve something is because I started out believing I could do it, rather than acquiring that belief after I achieved it. If I didn’t think I could do it, I probably would never have succeeded. My past experiences have taught me that all you need to have in order to succeed is to have a sense of self-belief - a sense that you can control your own future. That’s all.

14. Wake up early. – I used to wake up late every day, like 9-10am. I never thought much about waking up early until a couple of years ago. After I switched to waking early at 5am, my days have been incredible. I feel more productive, I get more done, I’m more eager to work to keep the momentum going. It’s something you have to try yourself to know the difference.

15. Eat a healthy diet. – A healthy diet just-starts a life of excellence. What’s in your daily diet? Junk? Fast food? Fried food? Or healthy, nutritious food? Fruits? Vegetables? I’ve been a vegan since 2008 and have been loving it. While I tried it out as just a 30-day trial, I immediately saw the benefits of being a vegan and stayed the course ever since. Also read: 9 Timeless Nutrition Tips for Any Age

16. Exercise regularly. – Aside from a regular gym routine, try other sports to spice it up your workouts. Frisbee, badminton and swimming are some of my favorite sports. These make exercising a lot more fun.

17. Plan your days. – Do you plan your days? Did you wake up today knowing what you are supposed to do today? If not, maybe it’s time you do. Planning doesn’t have to be long and tedious, it can just be a 30 second process. Every night, think about a few small things that you want to accomplish tomorrow and write them down. When you wake up the next morning, review this list before you do anything else.

18. Nurture those whom you love. – The magical feeling of love. The fluttering of your heart. The internal smile you get when you think of those who you care for most. It’s impossible to live a life of excellence without sharing quality time with those whom you love.

19. Try something new. – Routines stagnate us. New experiences help us grow and they make life interesting. Make an effort to try something new every week. I get very invigorated whenever I’m doing something new. It can be a whole new activity or just a small experience, such as talking to a stranger.

20. Stop watching TV. – Why stop watching TV? The bulk of content on TV is consciousness lowering. TV has been proven by research to be linked with lower life satisfaction. TV ads motivate you spend more money frivolously. TV wastes lots and lots of time. I could go on forever. I quit regular TV watching almost 5 years ago and never looked back. I recently wrote an article on my blog called 10 Reasons To Stop Watching TV and found out a good number of my readers dropped TV in their lives as well. Try it out for 21-days and see how you feel. Be sure to read: Top 10 Reasons You Should Stop Watching TV and 40 Positive Effects of a TV Free Week.

21. Stop obsessing over the news. – A lot of news today resonates with fear, guilt, shame and hate. Depending on your news source, many are largely sensationalized and biased as well. You don’t need to watch the news every day for an hour to know that there are car accidents, murders and wars out there. Focus your energy on how you can address those problems instead.

22. Don’t be trapped by dogma. – Don’t feel compelled to follow others all the time. Pave your own path. Follow your heart. Don’t fall into the trap of operating on everyone’s whim. Listening is okay, but doing what everyone wants is simply unhealthy. Execute the good feedback and follow your vision.

23. Be compassionate. – Show love and kindness to all the people around you. Respect everyone. They may not react in a kind way immediately, but they will notice and appreciate your kindness. To love is to be human.

24. Smile more. – It takes more muscles to frown than to smile. So let’s smile more often.

25. Criticize less, appreciate more. – Do you like overly critical people? I’m sure you don’t. They are a dread to be around. So let’s be less critical. Don’t stare so hard at what’s missing. Learn to see and appreciate what’s there instead.

26. Keep a journal to self-reflect. – I had a paper journal for several years, but after I started The Personal Excellence Blog I use the blog as my journal. By having a place to freely let out our thoughts and ponder over them, we get a lot more clarity about ourselves. If you are not sure where to start with, try 50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind, 20 Questions You Should Ask Yourself Every Sunday and check out the new site Thought Questions.

27. Forgive those who hurt you. – To forgive is to let go of a prisoner and to realize that the prisoner all along was you. Don’t hold on to past hatred. Let it go. You’ll find new, wonderful things entering your life once you do.

28. Enrich your mind great books. – Books contain concentrated volumes of wisdom. It’s not surprising then that most knowledgeable people are also very well-read. Check out 40 Modern Nonfiction Books Everyone Should Read and 30 Books Everyone Should Read Before Their 30th Birthday.

29. Coach someone. – There’s no better way to learn than to teach others. Is there someone who can benefit from your help? Offer to coach them for free. It’ll be an enlightening experience for both of you.

30. Meet new people. – Most humans have a habit of stagnating in a small circle of friends. But it doesn’t help us grow. Get out there and meet new people. You’ll be surprised at the lessons they will teach you and the new opportunities they will inject into your life.

In case you can’t get enough, here are some related posts

Quotes form the Essence of Gita

BHAGAVAD GITA SUMMARY (in English)

The Bhagavad Gita ("Song of God") is the essence of the Vedas and Upanishads. It is a universal scripture applicable to people of all temperaments, for all times. It is a book with sublime thoughts and practical instructions on Yoga, Devotion, Vedanta and Action. The Bhagavad Gita has influenced many great thinkers over the years.

* Why do you worry without cause? Whom do you fear without reason? Who can kill you? The soul is neither born, nor does it die.
* Whatever happened, happened for the good; whatever is happening, is happening for the good; whatever will happen, will also happen for the good only. You need not have any regrets for the past. You need not worry for the future. The present is happening...
* What did you lose that you cry about? What did you bring with you, which you think you have lost? What did you produce, which you think got destroyed? You did not bring anything - whatever you have, you received from here. Whatever you have given, you have given only here. Whatever you took, you took from God. Whatever you gave, you gave to him. You came empty handed, you will leave empty handed. What is yours today, belonged to someone else yesterday, and will belong to someone else the day after tomorrow. You are mistakenly enjoying the thought that this is yours. It is this false happiness that is the cause of your sorrows.

I drive joy

There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha

What Makes A Man Good Or Bad?

Monday-June 27-2011
What Makes A Man Good Or Bad?
Good and bad are relative terms. What is good to one is bad to another. If consuming wine is bad to one, it is very good for another. If eating non vegetarian food is good to one it is bad for another. But the basic moral, cultural and traditional standards of a country helps one to know what is good and what is bad.
There is none absolutely good except of course, the Creator. Every man or woman is a combination of good and bad. The difference is only in the proportion.
One may basically be good and another ma be basically bad. If one is 70% good and 30% bad another is 70% bad and 30% good. Individually, conscience helps one to identify good from the bad.
There is none totally good or totally bad. Only the degree of goodness or badness vary from person to person.
What makes a man good or bad? Previous Karma, Birth, Training, Environment and association are some of the reasons.
Man is subject to enjoy or suffer the results of his own actions (Karmas). Good actions bring forth good results and bad actions bring forth bad results. This is a scientific truth like action and reaction cause and effect. Thus the results of ones actions in the previous birth follow in the present birth like a shadow follows a person. Effects of good and bad actions run parallel and one is not adjusted against the other. Man had to enjoy or suffer the results of both good and bad actions. That explains why even pious persons, noble persons and person of charitable nature suffer severely from physical and mental ailments.
The next cause is birth. Where a person is born in a home where the total environment is bad, he cannot grow into a good person. Training by parent’s teachers and elders also plays a vital role in shaping a man good or bad. Last but not the least is the association one places himself or attracts does make him good or bad.
Though one is born with the heavy weight of bad actions of his earlier birth, it is possible to reduce the intensity of the result of his earlier bad actions by constantly thinking of the Creator, associating with good people , developing good environment, choosing a good career or profession and by reading good books.
You can make or mar your present and future though not your past. You will reap what you sow.
To fulfill A Dream
I have always believed that if you stick to a thought and carefully avoid distinction along the way. You can fulfill a dream. My whole life has been about fulfilling dreams, I kept my eye on the target, whatever that target was. Anyone who wants to fulfill a dream must stay strong, focused and steady. Easter Lauder
How important is Breakfast
Eat breakfast like a king. Lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar, so goes an old saying. But in today’s world of hurry, breakfast is the biggest casualty.
People often ask as to why breakfast is important. The answer lies in the word ‘breakfast’ itself. The word originated from the fact that after dinner , we do not eat the whole night(minimum 7 hours) and this is a long time for the body to go without food. During day time we keep on eating and munching after every 3-4 . But the duration between dinner and breakfast is often long, sometimes even 10 hours. So its equivalent to a fast. Hence the meal that is taken in the morning is breakfast.
Those who avoid breakfast are less productive and less efficient than those who eat breakfast. Children who regularly eat breakfast think faster and clearer, solve problems more easily and are less likely to be restless and irritable early in the day. So the message is loud and clear to ‘be particular about breakfast’.
Many people skip meals to lose weight. But the first meal of the day is important for a healthy start. The reason for it is simple. Skip breakfast and the gap between dinner and lunch next day is almost 17 hours. During this time the level of blood sugar drops. Glucose, the principal fuel for the brain and the central nervous system, helps carry on routine activities like talking thinking, even walking. For effective functioning of the brain, any stored carbohydrates have to be broken down or fat and protein turned into a usable form .without breakfast the body is deprive of vitamins C and D, calcium, iron and fiber. This is one reason people find it difficult to concentrate, solve problems, memories things and often become moody. A Canadian study says breakfast boosts memory and those who eat breakfast perform better.
A study also found remarkable improvement in those people suffering form memory problems and those with early signs of adult-onset diabetes. Another report states that school students consuming breakfast were less absent and had higher math grades and were less likely to suffer from depression, anxiety and hyperactivity. Moreover , breakfast helps determine and maintain a desired weight. A wholesome breakfast ensures one does not indulge in calorific ally dense food or overeat later in the day. Due to prolonged hunger one eats more food, higher in calorie count.
Eating something is better than nothing. It helps raise blood sugar levels. So , have an apple on the way to work.
The proves that why we should eat a proper and wholesome breakfast. The body’s stress hormone levels are highest in the morning due to hunger. Eating wholesome foods helps the body to overcome this stress. Try not to skip this most important meal of the day and see how your health and performance at work improves.
Share your knowledge. It’s a way of achieve immortality.
Quotes form the Essence of Gita
The principal aim of the first five chapters of the Gita is to establish the relation and harmony between work and knowledge. As I said earlier, at the time of Sri Krishna there was much confusion regarding the purpose of the scriptures because people failed to understand the relation between work and knowledge; they believed the two were mutually opposed and could not be practiced together.

Gratitude –Excellence From of Courtesy.

Monday-June 20-2011

Gratitude –Excellence From of Courtesy.
I read somewhere that once a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web or crab traps and lines was rescued.
The fifty-foot whale was weighed down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around here tail, her torso and a line tugging in her mouth.
A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farallone islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environment group help . Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off; the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them , pushed them gently around-she thanked them, some said it was the most beautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.
Gratitude is the most excellent from of courtesy.
Know Your Food and Diet
The food and drink you take in are known as your diet. A healthy diet consists of a verity of foods, because different foods contain different things that your body needs. Carbohydrates, proteins and fats are vital for energy or growth. They are called nutrients. Vitamins, minerals and water are accessory foods. They help your body to work properly.
Carbohydrates are energy giving foods. There are two types; sugar and starch. Sugars are sweet and dissolve in water. Foods such as fruits and chocolate contain sugars. Starch is not sweet and does not dissolve in water. Bread pasts, potatoes and rice are rich sources of starch.
During digestion , carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugars such as glucose, Your body uses these as fuel to produce energy. Some glucose is converted into glycogen and stored in liver. Any remaining glucose is turned into fat, and stored under the skin.
Proteins are used for the growth and repair of body tissue. As well as other vital jobs. They are found in lean eggs, nuts , milk and soybeans etc
Proteins are made up of simpler chemical units called amino acids. The types of proteins depends on the order in which its amino are arranged. During digestion. Proteins are broken down into individual amino acids. These are then rearranged to make different proteins needed by your body.
Some Examples of protein in the body; Hemoglobin in the blood cells carries oxygen around the body.
Kertin is the protein from which hair and nails are made. Actins and myosin enable muscles to contract.
Fats are needed by your body for energy and warmth. Unused fats are stored in various areas of your body, such as under the skin. There are two types of fats; saturated and Unsaturated. Saturated fats are found mostly in animal products, such as butter, lard and fatty meal. These foods also contain Cholesterol, a fat like substance.
Unsaturated fats are found in non-animal products, including vegetable oils and nuts.
Vitamins are substances your body substances your body needs to remain healthy. they are found in a wide variety of foods . A balanced and healthful diet will give your body all the vitamins , it need Vitamins are organic chemicals, which means that they contain carbon. Your body needs tiny amounts of about 15 different vitamins for essential chemical processes to take place.
Minerals are another group of substances needed by your body. they are inorganic, which means they do not contain carbon . you need small amounts of about 20 minerals in all. Trace minerals such as iron are minerals that are needed in extremely small quantities.
Dietary Fiber, also known as roughage, is a type of carbohydrate found in bran, whole meal bread, fruit and vegetables Fiber cannot be digested by humans. It is also bulky , which helps the muscles of your intestines to move food efficiently through your digestive system.
Water is vital for life. Without if, you would only survive for a few days. You need to take in water to replace what you lose , for example in urine and sweat . There is water in what you drink also in some solid foods , such as lettuce, which is 90%water.
You don’t pay the price for success. You enjoy the price for success
Quotes form the Essence of Gita
The great soul who has realized that everything is permeated by God has attined knowledge such people are very rare(7,19)
In this way, the “unripe-I” of the knowledge –seeker, in the form of the identification with one’s body , has vanished once and for all, such people then realize “ I dwell both inside and outside of everyone. I am the witness of all. It is my power that activates the mind and intellects. I am the witness of the three states waking dream and dreamless sleep. I dwell in all begins and all being dwell in me.’ This truth is experienced after a great deal of practice and effort . to get this experience, it is essential to have longing for God. It should be as intense as the longing of a worldly person for the world or of a chaste wife for her husband or of a miser for wealth. We must be attracted to God the way a drunkard is attracted to alcohol. As Sri Krishna says in the Gita thinking intensely of worldly objects results in an excessive attachment for them and gradually ends a person on the path of destruction. We need this type of attachment” to spiritual life. When this attachment grows as a result of mediation on God. We progress briskly towards spiritual freedom instead of toward our ruin.

The Perfectionist Syndrome.

Monday-June 13-2011
The Perfectionist Syndrome.
Dr. David Burns, behavioral Therapist at the Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical center save that it is better to aim at success, but not perfection. Compulsive perfectionism may actually lower performance and get in the way of success. As a psychiatrist, he feels this self –defeating habit will have its impact of one’s emotional health too. He conducted a test study of a group of over 150 persons. He found that over 40 percent of them were perfectionists. Predictably, this group felt under greater stress than their non perfectionist peers. They experienced much more anxiety and depression in their lives, there was not one shred of evidence that they were earning any more money . they weren’t even more successful. Moreover, the discouragement and pressure that so often plague perfectionist’s can even lead to decrease in creativity and productivity.
What do we mean by perfectionism? When we raise such about the healthy pursuit of excellence by person who take pleasure in meeting high standers. Then who are perfectionists? Perfectionists are people who strain compulsively towards impossible goals and measure their self-worth entirely in terms of their achievements. As a result , they are terrified by the prospect of failure. They feel driven, and , at the same time, unrewarded by their accomplishments. The very feeling “without my perfectionism, I ‘d be just a mediocre person. Ugh! who wants to be average?’ is quite self-defeating, subjecting a person who aims at peak perfection to emotional turmoil and impaired productivity. The other feelings that torment him/her are “ I will never made so many errors ! I mustn’t do that again!”.
How to get Over Perfectionist Syndrome.
If you are a compulsive perfectionist, you are undoubtedly good at focusing on all the ways you fall short. You spend your life cataloguing every mistake and shortcoming. Here is a simple method that may help you reverse this painful tendency.
List the things you do right each day. This may sound unsophisticated and couldn’t help you in any way. Try this of two weeks. You’ll begin to focus on the pluses in your life and will consequently feel better.
Another helful method involves, exposing the absurdity in the perfectionist, thinking all or nothing. Look around and ask yourself how many things in the world can be broken into this category. Are the walls around you totally clean? Is your favorite film star perfectly beautiful? Do you know anyone who is totally calm and confident all the time?
When you start looking around with a critical eye, you can get over this self=defeating all-or-nothing thinking. It helps you come out of that thinking which doesn’t fit into reality . Instead you can combat perfectionism by asking yourself. “What can I learn form my mistakes?’ As an experiment think about some error you made and write down everything you learn from it. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose the ability to learn new things.
Remember that fear always lurks behind perfectionism. There is , after all, a reward in trying to be perfect, it protects us- from risking criticism, or failure l But it is also robs you of growth, adventure, and the opportunity to live life to the fullest. Confronting your fears and allowing yourself the right to be human can, paradoxically, make you a after happier and more productive person.

Quotes form the Essence of Gita
From where will come the power to collect together the whole mind? All power is within us because the Self is the source of all power is within us because the Self is the source of all power. The body, the mind and the intellect are only instruments of the Self. Using these instruments, the Self is playing, a s it were a great game. Just as efficiency is lowered when the instruments goes out of order, the play of the Self too is affected when the mind and the intellect become impure. It is then not able to manifest its infinite power. If , however, the mind and the intellect are pure with preponderance of serenity (Sattva), the power inherent in the Self can manifest wonderfully connection with religion.

Humour in Law.

Monday-June 6-2011
Humour in Law.
Law, according to a jurists, is like hole. Which is covered to prevent people failing into it. If at all we want to protect anyone from the stranglehold of law, it can be done only through lawyers and nobody else.
In law there are certain aspects which we must necessarily know. Many years ago, a meeting between Swami Vivekanda and Shri Sundarama lyer, Dewan of Travancore, gave birth to the definition of ‘Hinduism’ in two worlds as ‘Pravirthi’ and Nivrithi, meaning involvement and detachment. In the same way if anyone could define law in two words, it would be ‘Expense and ‘Suspense’.
The difference between humors in law and humor in fact is as much as the difference between son-in-law and son fact. Long ago, an eminent lawyer was explaining to an English judge the complicated aspects of the Hindu joint family system, the ‘Kartha’ being the Head of the family and so on it is a remarkable system where every member is an indivisible part of the whole as in communists society but one can get out of it at any time like member states leaving a confederation.
The law year was explaining about the coparcenery and the stars of coparcener members in a Hindu joint family. After hearing his able arguments for three days, the judge asked the lawyer what would be the share of t a son-in-law in a Hindu joint family. The lawyer was sunned by this question as all his detailed lecture came to nothing . He said “My Lord thee is no specific share as a son-in-fact may have but, he the son-in-law would grasp on whatever he lays his hands on. “
Ignorance , of law is no excuse, is a self-evident truth is it applicable only to the laymen and not to the lawman? Apparently the above maxim is not applicable to a lawyer. But every day a large number of access are decided in courts and one of the tow lawyers is defeated because of the ignorance of law as laid down by one of the judges. So ignorance of law is no excuse at all except a lawyer and perhaps a judge.
Ages of Man
The TWENTIEES are the molding years, when the young person forms those habits that will direct his career. Then the finished his school work, sands before the altar, establishes a home and looks the world in the face.
The THIRTIES are the yeas of discouragement. It is hard and trying time. It is a time of battle without the poetry and dreams of youth.
The FORTIES are the years of vision, when a man finds himself, finishes his castle in the air, and knows the values of his dreams.
In the FIFTIES, LIFE COEMS TO ITS RIPENING .These should be the years of jubilee, and a man should do his best work then.
At SIXTY a man has committed enough mistakes to make him wise far beyond his juniors. He should live better and do better work then in any decade of his life. No man has right to retire in the sixties; the world has need of his wisdom. And in the SEVENTIES some of the best work in the world has been done. It is the time when talent experience and insight combine to make a worthy and memorable life.
Divine Hand
The Hand that moves
The luster’s of stars
Through the vastness of space.
The Hand that burns
The fuels of incandescent matter
In the furnace of the blazing sun
The Hand that rages storms
And shapes the continents
With their mountain and valleys
And the Hand that fashions
The softest of flowers
Bringing to the world
The nectar of gentle showers,
May That Hand of God
Guide me protect me
Sustain me, nourishes me
And lead me on to Eternity.
Humankind –One Family
We are one family, although we do not resemble, look quite different , although I am brown, he is black, they are white; although you are rich and I am poor.
We are one family even though I am a boy, you are a girl; even though I trust one party, you trust another; whether your ancestors are from Iraq , the U.S.A and mine from Africa.
We are one family, although I am a poet, he is a journalists, or doctor; although you are old and I am young.
We are one family, even though you praise Jesus , he, Allah, and they Lord Krishna, The Buddha, Mahaveera, Guru Nanak.
We are one family even though you have a car and I have a bus to ride; although I have someone to love and you are alone; even though you dress one way, and I dress the other way.
We are one family , you and I are family , me and you are family , no matter what the difference is , family we are, because we are here, and here is the Erath , and the Earth is our home. So here we will live as a human family for Humankind is one family.

Quotes form the Essence of Gita
I am reminded of a story; A person went to a monastery and said to a monk,. “Revered sir, please make me your disciple.” The members of the monastery asked him, “Can you really handle the responsibility? It is very difficult to be a disciple. In this monastery a disciple has to cook the food for offering in the shrine, wash vessels, fetch water, run errands for the monks, memorize the lessons given by the teacher, obey al his commends and massage his feet after dusk. The person was in a terrible fixes. He thought for a while and then asked, “What does the there have to do?’ They said, “Oh, you want to know what the teacher does? Well, he does the worship, practices mediation, teaches his disciples and gets work done through them.” Then the person said, ‘In that case, sir, please make me a teacher right away!”

A Reminder From God

Monday-May 30- 2011
A Reminder From God
I was regretting the past and fearing the future. Suddenly, I heard God speaking “My Name is “ I AM”. He paused I waited. He continued. “When you lie in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard for you because I am not there. My name is not I WAS.
When you live in the future with its unknowns and fears, it is hard for you because I am not there My name is not I WILL BE’
“But when you live in this moment, it is not hard, because I am here. My name is “I AM”

Self-Expression Gives Joy
Something in a person’s spirit desires for self-expression. When he finds and opportunity for it, he is happy. When he cannot, he is frustrated.
Recall the satisfaction you derived when you put finishing touches to a painting, a story a or a poem. You can remember the contentment you derived when you took part in a club meeting or in a dramatic society. It is , therefore, necessary to provide yourself with channels for self expression.
If you find life dull and boring . it is due to not getting opportunities to express your ideas. Consider the following points.
Try to engage in a worthwhile conversation. It is a source of satisfaction.
Share your experiences that had given you joy or pain.
Consider your job as a means of self-expression.
This enables you to do the work better because when the work becomes creative, providing an opportunity for self expression, it is capable of giving the satisfaction you desire for.
Do not say that you are not good at the type of work you do. You have untapped resources, dormant skills and abilities awaiting an opportunity to be revealed, only when you try , you discover that you have a skill for one or more of the activities like drawing, painting , story writing, poetry , flower arrangement, model making, embroidery, cookery etc.
You need not be a best novelist or story writer to find self-expression. You derive a lot of fun when you get a chance for self-expression by writing to newspapers and magazines Keep a diary and writes you observations or experiences, which will be a joyful opportunity to express yourself.
If you are keen, you can develop writing skills, by taking up correspondence course in short story writing or script writing for a T.V play.
When you take up a course in public speaking, it will provide and opportunity to overcome nervousness and fear-consciousness. In the presence of other beginners you get used to the sound of your own voice standing before audience.
You cannot learn swimming by reading a book. You have to get into the water and begin to swim. The best way to provide self-expression is in a class gathering where a friendly instructor will provide you guidance and encouragement.
Your ardent desire to be recognized in a strong urge in human endeavor. Give an opportunity right now for self-expression.

Quotes form the Essence of Gita
It is not that the Self become small and because or work, it slowly begins to expand, until at last it becomes so big that it breaks through all its bonds. If this were true, it would logically follow ht if one kind of work could expand the Self, some other kind of work could contract the Self. Perhaps it might contract the Self into nothingness! That is why the scriptures say that if the freedom for the Self is the effect of karma, then it would be of a limited duration. Anything that is a result of work has a beginning , middle and end. For this reason they say that the freedom is always inherent in the Self. That is the Self real nature. Only because it has forgotten its nature does it identify itself with the body and mind, and there fore feels itself experiencing joy and sorrow.
If we ask why the Self made mistake , the scriptures say, “Dear friend, that is not something to be learnt or to be taught. Let the mistake be corrected first and then learning or teaching becomes possible. Your mind and intellect function only within the domain of that ‘mistake’ How then can you remind and intellect understand the cause for that mistake?” But if we ask how this mistake was made, the scriptures will answer. “Knowledge has been covered by ignorance and that is the cause of all this trouble.” If we ask what the way out is, the scriptures will say “Ah, we have found a way! God on dong good work without paying any heed to joy or sorrow or gain or loss. That will destroy egoism the root of ignorance.
In due time, having reached, perfection in yoga, the person attains knowledge in his or her heart.

On The Sands of Time

On The Sands of Time
Character was the best qualification
Nobel Laureate Prof C.V Raman was then the Director of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. One day he had to interview candidates for a job in the institute
Among them a young man was unable to give correct answerers to some of his questions. So Raman told him not to entertain hopes of securing the job. The young man left the room with a broken heart. He claimed down the step and stood alone in the waiting room. After some time. Prof. Raman came down. He noticed that the young man was still waiting there. He told him again that he should give up all hops of being taken for the job. The young man humbly replied with folded hands, “Sir, I am only waiting for the office to open. I have been pad give rupees extra by the clerk as fare and daily allowance. And your concentration too will help you to form a clear picture in your mind of the ultimate objective.
Your thinking should be constant and continuous. When you think-on one subject, do not allow other thoughts to enter. When you think of a rose, think of the different kinds of roses only. When you study Gita,Ramayan do not think of your professional problems. Concentration will help you to arrange your thoughts in order and become a rapid thinker.
Think of different items one by one in order . By this practice you will develop organized thinking. Your thinking power will gain strength and force. It will become clear-cut and well defend.
You can also stimulate thinking power by taking part in serous conversation or discussion. Listen to the views of others that will make things clear. Defend your own position so that will drive you to think more clearly and objectively.
Read as many books and magazines as possible. Also read as fast as possible. Then you can use the time save in thinking about what you have read.
Men reached great heightens by seeking to answer questions like why? when? where? who? how? This kind of mental activity spread over a long time will help to improve your thinking power.
Insulting others
A man who insults anyone exhibits his arrogance. The man who allows to be insulted lacks self-respect. A person indulges in insulting when he ants to express his anger and belittle the other person. Insults are also hurled by a person to show his vanity and superiority. There are people who resort to insulting others due to psychological reasons. Insulting another person in anger is the most dangerous passion. Everyone must realize that one must not do unto there what one would not like to be done into him.
No offence
An act done in the right of the exercise of self-defance is no offence under the law.
Reading is the best learning . To follow a great man’s thoughts is the most entertaining of science.
The victories of truth have never been won without risks.
Look before you leap, see before you go.
All Spectacular Success.
All spectacular successes were achieved in little courageous steps taken with self-confidence and faith in the nobility of the final goal chosen.
Determination And Motivation
Desire is the key to motivation, but its determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal- a commitment to excellence that will enable you to attain the success you seek.
Quotes form the Essence of Gita
Suppose I am a student and I have to go abroad for higher studies or for some other good purpose. If a scripture cannot help me in that situation , then what will be my condition? When we look deeply we can see that the scriptures are not at fault. The fault, lies with us. We have completely forgotten how the teachings of the scriptures are not at fault. The fault lies with us. We have completely forgotten how the teachings of the scriptures have to be-and can-be applied in every situation of life. Having thus forgotten it, we now think that to practice true religion we must retire into solitude. Sri Krishna has a different view. On one had , he tells Arjuna,
“You will attain nothing in religious life if you do not fight for the cause of justice.” On the other had, he tells people of a different temperament, like Uddava and others, “Give up everything, go to the Badrikashrama in the mountains a, and meditate with an unwavering mind. Without doing that, you will not attain anything in religious life. It is clear therefore that what the scriptures want to say is this If you really work unselfishly by giving up all fruits of actions, you will be spiritually liberated, no matter where you are.
