We often hear, especially during grand occasions, ‘roll out the red carpet’ or ‘red carpet’ reception. It is something that people do when they wish to give a regal reception to someone special. This is a way of giving a special welcome. We often hear of ‘red carpet’ treatment in the same sense. Probably this idiom originated from the practice of olden days when kings and Queens and other from royal households were received with a red carpet rolled out on which they trod. We often see a similar practice when heads of state, actors, sports man and other high achievers are received. What ever may be the origin, it , is indeed, regal when someone rolls out a red carpet for you.
‘Cavat’- pronounced ‘Ka-vi-at’ is quite a formal usage. It means warning or caution. It means warning or caution. It originates from the Latin ‘Cavere’ which means ‘Let him beware’. It is very frequently used in the legal context. In the context of law means ‘ a formal notice to suspend action until the party that filed the action can be heard’.
Example; Sushman can go ahead with her work, but with certain Caveats.
Opportunities in Life
Your success in life does into altogether depend on ability and training; it also depends on your determination to grasp opportunities that are presented to you. Opportunities in life come by creation, not by chance.
Fewest Possible Words
Say all you have to say in the fewest possible words, or your reader will be sure to skip them; and in the plainest possible words, or he will certainly misunderstand them.
Life
Life is made of small jumps over great obstacles. It is in the courage of getting through them that makes life challenging and exciting.
A really honest executive is one who is willing to share the credit with the person who did the work.
Knowledge is man’s highest acquisition. It is a life long friend and a safest guide in life.
Do you know
They rosy-cheeked, pot-bellied, bearded Santa Claus we are familiar with was the creation of American Cartoonist Thomas Nash who published the drawing shown in ‘Harper’s Weekly’ in 1881.
Come! Let Us Celebrate!
Stretching sound is music.
Stretching movement is Dance
Stretching smile is laughter
Stretching mind is mediation
Stretching feelings is ecstasy
Stretching emptiness is bliss
Stretching life is celebration.
The best advice is usually worthless-the wise do not need it, and the foolish will not heed it.
Knowledge is men’s highest acquisition. It is a lifelong friend and a safest guide in life.
Quote from Gita
Suppose some people want to earn money in order to use it for the good of their country. In the beginning this feeling is quite strong . But when money comes to their hands, they get attached to it. Gradually the greed for wealth makes them forget the purpose they started out with and their won enjoyment or wealth itself becomes their new goal in life. That is why the goal has to be kept intact. It wont do to keep an eye on one’s gain. This is what Karma Yoga means. Who can practice this yoga? Only those who have control over themselves, who have their senses under control, whose goal in life is steady , and who work like masters and not like slaves. When the goal is reached they know that their work is over and they withdraw from work.
I drive joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha

Home –A Center of Love And Understating
Monday 11-January 2010
Home is a centre for understanding, leading to success, health and happiness, Healthy growth of every member of a family depends on mutual understanding tolerance and avoidance of friction.
All of us seek happiness but most of us do not realize that home is the centre to remain happy and make others happy. Effective relationship with every member of the family is the result of peaceful environment maintained through constant dialogue, necessary correction in understanding whenever needed.
If your family is moving in the right direction, you would be able to perform your work peacefully and gracefully. That is the inseparable relationship between life at home and work at office. When the mind is disturbed at home, the work at office suffers and vice versa. It is , therefore, very important to maintain peaceful atmosphere both at home and office. One has to work effectively to promote healthy culture at both places.
It is better for the family members to get together once a day preferably at the same time. It helps very much, if the members of the family eat together or pray together once a day. Is it not true that a family which prays together stays together?
Sparing time for children is as important as any other aspect of life. Growing children, particularly teenagers, do need guidance and love. They should also be carefully about the friends they make, the movies they see and the books they read. Elders should take them into confidence, understand their problems and try to solve them. With love and compassion. They do need guidance to avoid possible pitfalls or mistakes leading to serious results. They will help youngsters to think, understand and lead life in the right direction.
Between husband and wife., there should be a loyal and dependable understanding. Each one should endeavour to sustain the healthy values and principles of his or her spouse leading to peace progress and success. It is said that happy family is the result of loving heart and attitude of tolerance. This relationship must be nurtured at all stages of life. Both the spouses must communicate with each other and solve problems mutually. They have to complete the task cheerfully maintaining the dignity , discipline in the family.
One has to clearly explain his or her position with love and clarity. With willingness to communicate, understand the viewpoint of the spouse, any problem can be solved in a short time. One has to take care of the physical, mental and social needs of the spouse. It is also necessary to sustain values and respect will surely lead to purposeful, peaceful, healthy and happy environment at home and office. (Courtesy Wisdom)

It is said that Sri Krishna gave to Duryodhas eleven units of his army before the battle started. Duryadhana thought, “ I could not get Sri Krishna on my side. Well , what does it matter? His energy cannot equal the energy of eleven army units!” But just the opposite proved to be true in the battlefield. Sri Krishna’s energy and perseverance, his infinitely resourceful power in moments of crisis, his fiery and energizing words in the darkness of utter dependency, and his uncommon cheerfulness and tranquil mind in the shadow of death and in the midst of the defeat of his own people-al these qualities made him as powerful as al the great warriors from both sides put together what to speak of eleven of his own army units!

Enrich your Life
Monday 4-January 2010
Enrich your Life
Once an individual determines that he wants a new way of life, then he has turned the key to unlock the secret door to success. Here are ten vital points for brining about a radical change in one’s life and for enriching oneself with ethical and spiritual values:
1. Develop a keen desire to become better mentally and physically. Sustain and intensify your desire by concentrated effort. The will to change must be sustained day by day.
2. Review your life. See the errors of the past, and learn lessons from them. Then put the past behind. There is no need for constantly looking back and feeling sorry over what is gone.
3. Determine what is your ideal. What kind of personality do you want to become? Ideally you should seek for perfection and purity. However, this cannot be accomplished overnight.
4. A power of observation and a keen sense of objectivity these are the ingredients for avoiding the offensive qualities that are playing humanity today. Wage war against the petty qualities of all-consuming jealousy, greed for money, the gossiping habit, and intense hatred.
5. Bitterness is one of the greatest obstacles to becoming better in body, mind and spirit. In a secret manner it spreads into every part of one’s personality. Bitterness develops when one’s cherished desires are prevented. It is enhanced by the recollection of sorrowful events of the past. A bitter memory must be checked by asserting; “What was before is gone and cannot be redone. But I am the architect of my destiny. Let me handle the present situation, and build a golden future”.
6. In order to make a sweeping change in your life you should entertain a new current of thought. Let a new philosophical outlook emerge out of the ashes from the ruins of the past. Allow the sweet breeze of spring to blow across your mind.
7. Read aloud any inspiring passage from your favorite scripture for few minutes every day. Listen to your voice. As the days pass by you will find more and more comfort and strength from these readings.
8. Write on your mirror each morning the virtue you will try to highlight for the day. If it is selflessness, try to observer your mind during the day. Set apart of least and hour for rendering selfless service to others. Next day write another virtue on the mirror. Thus each day will be challenge for you. Gradually you will develop a keen and alert intellect an intellect that is sensitive to the feelings and difficulties of others. Be aware of your deeper Self. You will discover unexpected happiness from within yourself. Your ego will reduce automatically.
9. Prayer never goes in vain. Rather, every prayer creates a subtle potency. It draws to you the positive elements that are needed for the unfoldment of your spirit . you begin to enjoy a new kind of happiness, and an unusual peace. Prayer leads you on to the amazing heights of spiritual glory.
10. Lastly, but not lesser in importance , is the fact that everyone should have a spiritual guide-a guru. If this is not possible, one should be guided by the spiritual literature written the cave of your heart, there abides God. Whose is guiding you constantly towards the realms of calmness , peace, beyond human expectations, and bliss that is boundless.
Nothing can be achieved without discipline and simplicity. Be persistanent in your effort. You are bound to realize your goal.
May God grant you the strength for constant self-effort leading you to the Spring of Eternal Life! –Courtesy ; “ International Yoga Guide.”
If your purpose is right and you are persistent even God will come to your help
For today, if you keep God by your side, there is nothing that will come into your life , that you won’t be able to handle.
Spent your time in pushing yourself up, not in pulling others down.
Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don’t .
We must be convinced that rights are deserved only by the discharge of obligation.
A good kick to the bucket

Employer ; Oh, one out of every ten.
Quote from Gita- Karma Yoga is simply the “art of doing worked.’ Work can be done with such skill that we don’t get entangled in it. We can then work independently with our own will. What do we need to do in order to work like that? We must not keep an eye on our own gain. Wherever there is self-interest, there is desire for results and that leads to attachment. We must work but we must also take to attachment. We must work but we must also take care to see that we are not “being worked.” In any case, we have to work. We have to take care of our parents. If we are married we have to maintain the family. We have a duty to the society in which we live, to the nation into which we are born and to entire humanity in general . the scriptures say that we are born in this world with three debts; a debt to the god(deva-rna), debt to the teachers(rsi-rna) and debt to our ancestors (pitra-raa).
Work is unavoidable. But we should, as Sri Ramkrishna said, work like a maid in the house of a rich person. She does all the work there. She also baby-sits the children; she is happy in their joy and in their suffering But in her heart of heart she knows that she doesn’t belong to them and the family may discontinue her service at any time they wish . we too must live in the world in the same way.

How to be a Winner?
Monday 28-December 2009
How to be a Winner?
Courage helps us to live in the most effective and sensible way. It helps us to concentrate on today’s tasks and pleasure, forgetting the past, and leaving the future to take care of itself.
Concern for the future is natural. We must make provisions for it. The only way open tours to influence it is by doing today’s activities to the best of our abilities to the best o four abilities. With courage we can turn our backs not the past. The future is not yet here and remains still to be shaped . We can act only in the present. To act consistently on this knowledge calls for courage. We have to preserve in our efforts to live solely within the confines of today’s circumstances.
Courage and perseverance help to build up a strong character . They build up self reliance. They lead to peace of mind, success in our endeavors and an end to obstacles. The quickest way to acquire courage is through help from other people. Friends can give you the inspiration you need, just like reading inspiring books. Two famous books you could start with are; “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” by Dale Carnegie, and “The Power of Positive Thinking’ by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.
Dale Carnegie suggests one method for facing troubles with courage, learnt from an expert in the air-condition business. This man’s advice was to decide first. “What is the worst thing that could happen to me in this present trouble?’ He would then calmly and quietly accept that the worst might happen and prepare himself to face it. Then he would ask. “How can I improve on the worst?’ Ideas would then occur that he could put into effect to help mitigate our avoid the worst.
Once you have mentally prepared yourself to face the worst, you always find the courage to take bold, practical steps to solve the problem.
Dr.Pele draws attention to a similar thought. “The primary fact about an obstacle”, he says , “is don’t be afraid of it”. He goes on to add. “The first thing to do about an obstacle is simple, to stand up to it and not complain about it but forthrightly attack it”. By this positive tackling of problems we will learn to know our abilities and our power to get things done. We will convince ourselves . “ I don’t believe in defeat”.
Determination to succeed is the factor that distinguishes people of great achievement from the rest of mankind. They are not content even with doing their best. They go a step further and try to improve their own records.
The famous American psychologist. Williams James used to say that most people use only about ten per cent of their ability. Ouspenski expressed the same idea when he said . “Most people inhabit a mansion but live only in the basement”.
Avoid self-pity. Be hard on yourself (but not on others). You troubles are no worse than others have to face. They are a lot softer than many other people’s . Regretting about your misfortunes will solve nothing. Only positive action courageously carried out in faith will get you over your problems.
Lincoln’s rules for living.
Do not worry, eat two square meals a day, say your prayers, be courteous to your creditors, keep you digestion good, steer clear of biliousness, exercise, go sloe and go easy. May be there are other things that your special ease requires to make you happy, but, my friend, these I reckon will give you a good lift.
Right thinking
Stop thinking about things you don’t want, and think about the things you want. Stop thinking about war, disaster, poverty, hard times , bad luck, panic, crime, evil, failure , suicide, disease, and death. Think and talk more about peace, plenty, health, life, opportunity, confidence, happiness , progress, power, prosperity, achievement, truth, success and justice. Your thoughts help to make a better world. Substitute cooperation for competition, love for hate, trust for suspicion, peace for war and service for selfishness. Right thinking is the greatest power in the world to establish peace and goodwill among men.
“To live in a goldfish bowl”
The expression “to live in a goldfish bowl” means to be in a situation that lacks privacy.
What the mind can conceive and believe , it can achieve!
Love is to human hearts what the sun is to flowers!
Behaviors is a mirror in which everyone displays his own image.
Quote from Gita
Karma Yoga and Jana Yoga Lead to the Same Goal
Who is fit to work in this way? the person who has controlled his or her mind. What happens when a person goes on working in this manner? The bonds of karma are cut asunder and gradually he or she attains perfect knowledge.
Sri Krishna exemplifies the practice of Karma Yoga in a special way. We see that although his mind and senses did an infinite amount of work, he had not the least desire for the result. Only incarnations like him are the real teachers of the world. Their lfie is meant for the spread of knowledge and for teaching humanity. Study their lives and learn to work like them. Otherwise , if we don’t learn to practice control, if we work with desire for its fruits, the mind will gradually become a salve of the senses, and the senses will destroy us. It wont do to be a slave of the sense. That wont help us in any way; we shall lose track of the goal. We should keep the sense and the mind under control.
Let us have a high before us and keep on working . We will see that a Karma Yogi reaches through work the same state that a Jana Yogi attains thought intense detachment. Both have the same goal, but their paths are different. Although the paths are not identical so long as the two are en route, there is not difference the two once the goal is reached.

He asked. Monday 21-December 2009
Efficiency Means
Efficiency means making the best use of your time and talent so that you live to full rich level in all the fields of your personal and social life. Anyone who want to be efficient must know what exactly he expects in his life and carrier. Once he knows this he can more on a straight line to his target-goal.
John F Kennedy said, “My fellow citizens, ask not what your country can do for your country”.
Once your main goals are set up, rest of the work is comparatively more easy. To attain them you can be helped considerably by three qualities-perseverance, cheerfulness and sing mindedness
You must not be discouraged by failures or temporary setback, said Vivekananda. You must look at everything from its best side. Even from prison bars you must see the stars and not the mud!.
Only gracious way!
“The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it, if you can’t ignore it, overcome it; if you cant overcome it, laugh at it; if you can’t laugh it, it is probably deserved”
Really gracious
The really gracious expect no returns for their deeds of help. How can the world ever repay the rains?
Succour to the real poor
Your succor to the real poor alone is charity. Giving to all others is only bargain.
Abstain from condemnable acts
Neither matted hair nor shaven head is necessary to attain salvation if you abstain from condemnable acts.

Good Luck? Bad Luck? Who Knows?
There is Chinese story of an old farmer who had an old horse for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and when all the farmer’s neighbors sympathized with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer replied. ‘Bad Luck? Good Luck? Who Knows?’ A week later the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and his time the neighbours congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, ‘Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows? Then, when the farmer’s son was attempting to tame one of the wild horses, he fell of its back and broke his leg. Everyone thought this very bad luck. Not the farmer whose only reaction was. ‘Bad Luck?Good Luck?Who Knows?. Some weeks later the army marched into the village and look into military service every able bodied youth they found there. When they see the farmer’s son with his broken leg they let him off . Now was that good luck? Bad luck? Who Knows?
Every thing that seems on the surface to be an evil may be a good in disguise. And everything that seems good ont eh surface may really be an evil. Karma Yoga
Harmony between Jnana and Karma
According to Karma Yoga, we have got to work. We can never remain without working; so long as the body exists, some work or other must be doing . it is impossible for us to give up work.
On the other hand, we read in the scriptures. “So long as we cannot give up all work, we are far away from attaining knowledge and spiritual freedom. ‘
At casual glance, the two ideas appear to be highly contradictory. It is very difficult to harmonize the two views. In the Gita Sri Krishna offers the teaching of Krama Yoga to harmonize these two apparently conflicting views. He agrees that unless we reach the state of toal non-work, we shall attain neither knowledge nor peace. But that stage cannot be reached through mere physical abstaincee from work. That, in fact, will only make us hypocrites. Once we reach the blessed state of non-work, our body right continue to work but every moment we shall be aware of the truth that “ I am not doing any work. I am totally separate from the body and the senses,” Work can be done with such sill that , as we go on working, we gradually attain that state. The central focus of Krma Yoga, therefore, is on training oneself to be non-working even while working.

Winner & Loser
Monday 14-December 2009
Winner & Loser
A Winner works harder and has more time; a Loser hardly works and is always busy.
A Winner goes straight to the problem and solves it; a Loser goes round the problem, but never solves it.
A Winner makes a commitment; a Loser promises too readily.
A Winner knows when to fight hard and when to give way; a Loser gives way on important issues or holds on to things that are not worth fighting for.
A Winner feels strong enough to be friendly; a Loser is rarely friendly and at times can be a petty tyrant.
A Winner listens carefully; a Loser waits for his turn to talk.
A Winner respects other’s strength; a Loser focuses on other’s weakness.
A Winner learns from others; a Loser is resistant to others.
A Winner feels responsible for more than just his own work; a Loser says “That is not my job”
A Winner sets his own pace; a Loser has only two speeds; full speed ahead or dead slow.
A Winner uses time to improve a Loser uses time to avoid criticism.
A Winner is not afraid of making mistakes; a Loser is afraid of making mistakes and of what others will say.

Who realizes his goal and achieves it,
Who receives praises and accepts it with modesty – In Live A fuller Life

Quote from The Essence of the Gita
Beware of Distorted Teachings
Self-knowledge is the mainstay of the Vedas. This is the only national wealth of India. It is from India that this knowledge spread to the other parts of the world. The day that India discards this knowledge will be the day she is destroyed. It will take a long time for people in other parts of the world to appreciate and attain this knowledge. In the field of spirituality India is still the teacher of the world. Accept the British and others as your teachers in the fields of commerce, politics, warfare and other subjects, and learn from them. But they have not become fit yet to occupy the same place in the field of spirituality . what more foolishness can there be than to set aside the living embodiments of spirituality such as Sri Ramakrishna and others, and go to those foreigners professing other religions to hear the glory their faith!

TIPS FOR A MANAGER
Monday 7-December 2009
TIPS FOR A MANAGER
If you gather 100 experienced mangers together and ask for their advice, here is what you would hear;
1. Don’t be afraid of the phrase, “I don’t know”.
If you don’t know the answer, don’t try to bluff. If you are at fault, take the blame. If you are wrong, apologies. A wise person once said, “If you always tell the truth, you never have to remember anything’.
2. Never gossip.
If someone wants to gossip with you, politely say you are not interested. This corporate rule rings true; “When someone gossips, two careers are hurt-the person being talked about and the person doing the talking”.
3. No task is beneath you.
Don’t think you are above anything. Be a good example and take up the job-especially if the job is one that nobody wants to do.
4. Share the credit whenever possible.
Manager who spread credit around look much stronger than those who take all the credit themselves.
5. Ask for help.
If you think you are in trouble, before it gets out of had, ask someone for help-most people enjoy lending a hand. Besides saving yourself from embarrassment, you will make a friend.
6. When you don’t like someone, don’t let it show.
This is especially true if you outrank them. Never offend other as you move ahead.
7. Let it go.
What should not happen often does; you were not given the project you wanted, you were passed over for the promotion you deserved. Be gracious and diplomatic and move on. Having ill-feelings will not advance your carrier-culled from Indian Junior Chamber Training Volume-Courtesy; ‘Ideas Exchange’

HUMOUR
Like a man’s reputation.
A man once took a piece of white cloth to a dyer to have it dyed black. He was so pleased with the result that, after a time, he went back to him with a piece of black cloth and asked to have it dyed white. But the dyer answered; ‘A piece of cloth is like a man’s reputation; it can be dyed black, but it cannot be made white again.” –(East & West Series)
To know what his grandson will be!
Speaking of his ancestry Lincoln once humorsly remarked, “I don’t know who my grandfather was, but I am much more concerned to know what his grandson will be!
Goodness expands the heart
Goodness expands the heart and makes it humble. The larger and the better, the nobler your heart is, the more you will be inclined to make allowances for others.
Quote from Gita
From where will come the power to collect together the whole mind? All power is within us because the Self is the source of all power. The body, the mind and the intellect are only instruments of the Self. Using these instruments, the self is playing , as it were , a great game. Just as efficiency is lowered when the instrument goes out of order, the play of the Self too is affected when the mind and the intellect becomes impure. It is then not able to manifest its infinite power. If , however, the mind and the intellect are pure with a preponderance of serenity (sattva) , the power inherent in the self can manifest wonderfully.
